What this episode is about
Donald Trump recently delivered a perplexing speech at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he focused on the need for visually appealing battleships instead of modern stealth designs, amid serious economic challenges facing Americans. His remarks, including a call to revive the decommissioned Iowa-class battleships, raised eyebrows as they diverted attention from pressing issues like a dire jobs report and the ongoing cost of living crisis.
Key takeaways
- Trump builds battleships for aesthetics, ignoring a sinking job market—proof that looks can indeed sink you.
- While claiming 401ks are thriving, Trump overlooks the economic iceberg—millions still struggle with basic living expenses.
- Dismissing stealth tech for its looks, Trump proves that sometimes, style over substance can be a military blunder.
- Trump's obsession with past battleships distracts from present crises; nostalgia won't fill empty bellies or wallets.
- Amid job losses and inflation, Trump debates aesthetics while America's working class pays the price for nostalgic fantasies.

Seriously, what the hell is Donald Trump doing right now as the American people are facing a cost of living crisis that's absolutely crushing people's lives? As we've learned that in 2025, essentially no jobs were created. It's basically the worst jobs report other than the great uh recession when you factored in all of the 2025 data that just came back and all of the downward revisions. But Donald Trump went to a military base. He was in Fort Bragg, North Carolina as it's called now. Um, and he was talking about how we need battleships. Battleships. But, uh, the battleships can't be stealth because stealth doesn't look pretty. So, we need battleships that look like uh the old battleships, you know, like uh the Iowa.
Here, let's play this clip. Very powerful looking to me. So, I said, "What about bringing them back?" They said, "Sir, you'd be no good." But why do you say that the new battleship that we have which I've seen and helped design I put a little more spirit in the hull a little more give me a little bit more hull and I want that ship to look gorgeous you know forget about stealth they say oh it's stealth they design ugly equipment for stealth well we're designing greatl looking equipment also stealth
like like legitimately a crazy human being like and obviously he doesn't want to talk about the Epstein files um and he's talking about he doesn't like the way stealth looks And then he says we need to bring back the Iowa battleship in Rancho Palos Verde in California because he likes the way it looks and that should be our new battleships should be the old ones that don't work anymore. Play this clip. Initial order 10. And I said, "What about reinstating the old ships? We have some of them in dry dock. Some of them are museums right now like the IAS and Rancho Palace Veries in California. You have a couple of them and they're still very powerful looking to me. What are you talking about? I mean, what in the hell is he even talking about? Then he goes on to talk about how 401ks are doing very good and doesn't everybody here in the military feel like your 401ks are incredible? Here, play this
clip. Your 401ks are doing very well. I don't have to ask you. Is anybody doing poorly with their 401k?
And then he goes and asks him after saying I don't have to ask you. Then he attacks the former governor of North Carolina in North Carolina at a military base and says that he basically aided and embedded the murder of a woman getting her throat slit. Here, play this clip.
But we want to keep this area safe and we can't do that without the leaders. And uh your exgovernor is not one of them. It'd be a disaster if he got in. And one of the things that I just mentioned and saw, you saw the monster that killed an innocent young Ukrainian girl a couple of months ago, slitting her throat from behind. And this was the man, the governor that allowed this man to get out and to do that. We don't do that. We don't do that. Everybody knew he was trouble. Many, many crimes. One of the worst passs I've ever seen. And she sat down. She had her throat slit.
That's what he's saying at the military base. And it was obviously a horrific murder. It's not the governor, former governor's fault. I mean, it's just horriful what Trump said there. And then if you want to talk about Ukraine, every day there are lots of Ukrainians being killed directly, children being killed, women being killed, men being killed, innocent Ukrainians being killed directly because of you. And then you had Melania with her great speech right here being sarcastic. Let's play it. The harmony of love of country and love of family is what make us uniquely American.
Okay, I can't even hear that anymore. Okay, let's bring in Congress member Brendan Bole. Congressman Bole, it's great to see you as always. I mean, you know, that's the stuff that he wants to talk about. What he obviously doesn't want to talk about is the report that came out this week that the Trump regime is spiking the football about with 2025 jobs. You know, it was interesting because, you know, we get these jobs reports in 2025 and there were some months where it was obviously bad. There were some months where those numbers were higher than I think we thought they actually were based on what we what we saw h actually happening. And now you have these downward revisions that actually reflect that 2025 was one of the worst years uh in jobs in general.
Talk to us about what Trump doesn't want to talk about in today, which is jobs and manufacturing and issues like that.
Uh it is now a um certified fact that Donald Trump's first year back in office was the worst job creation since the Great Recession since 2009. Uh the reality is that this is an economy in which we are not creating jobs and it is specifically because of Donald Trump's policies. Just look at one sector in the economy, manufacturing. Um for all of the criticism Joe Biden got on on inflation or other things. One of the really great spots of the economy the last few years was overall job creation number one and then specifically manufacturing job creation which was the best in decades. Guess what? Once Trump's tariffs took effect on Liberation Day and the days following, you saw manufacturing jobs crater. So, we now have a tremendous amount of manufacturing job losses. And they are specifically because of Trump's policies, not because of any sort of natural disaster or natural downswing in the economic cycle.
You know what do you say when Trump though you heard Pam Bondi use it disgustingly during the Epstein hearing you know and say well does the stock market is over 50,000 now or you know what what do you say though when Donald Trump says though but look you know the market is up um although you know there are the fluctuations in the market right now and how there are days where it drops dramatically and companies you know you know lose lose 7 and a half 10% of the value and it's it's really erratic and you actually don't see these types of swings also other than time periods that are very recessionary. Um but but but what's the response to to that and how is it happening where I guess it's these handful of AI companies and tech companies propping up the market when you're seeing a lot of
kind of companies that that make things struggling. Well, first just to clarify, um Pam Bondi didn't say the market was at 50,000. She screamed it at the top of her lungs in a um theatrical performance which really only had an audience of one and that was pleasing her employer, Donald Trump, and otherwise making a complete joke of congressional oversight in the process. But I'll take her point that the stock market right now, the Dow is at 50,000. Well, you know what? Under Joe Biden, the market was through the roof. S&P, NASDAQ, Dow, all were at record highs. Um, guess what? That uh really didn't result, unfortunately, in a majority of Americans feeling it in their day-to-day budgets and in their monthly budgets. Um, the reality that neither Pam Bondi nor Donald Trump want to point to is that costs today are higher than they were the day Donald Trump took office 13 months ago. And let's not forget, he won my state of
Pennsylvania by just over one percentage point. An incredibly close race. He won nationwide by just over one percentage point. He won more than any other issue as both sides acknowledge because of inflation and the cost of goods being too high. He said he promised time and again that on day one he would lower prices. He's failed to lower prices. He hasn't even tried. And in fact prices are higher today than at any point and they're specifically because of Trump's tariff taxes. You know, it's interesting because when you get these CPI reports like the one that came out on Friday, you know, and you'll hear economists saying, "Well, it looks like, you know, inflation did not go up um or it's cooling or whatever the words they, you know, they use on Friday." You know, what I wanted to do was, you know, take a look at the actual data and see where where is it supposedly cooling and where isn't it? what I what I just found
notable because the CPI is a bucket of all of the different you know kind of inputs whether it's you know uh good goods that you purchase outside grocery prices home energy prices and then it also uh includes gas prices and oil prices you know for for basically for your vehicle and and when I looked at it I mean what it looks like it is is that the crude that we're buying is down but everything but but all these other inputs that actually matter to people on the stuff that the people feel when they go shopping, when they go to a grocery store, when they buy food, their home energy prices, their health care costs, those things are up. And when Trump has said, well, if you bring the oil prices down, which I don't necessarily feel here in California when I'm filling it up, maybe a few cents, but nothing like dramatic. He goes, then it all goes down. What I'm trying to interpret if what he really means is the way to game
the CPI report is focus on these certain inputs that don't really are felt and then you can claim a better number. I don't I'm not trying to go down some conspiratorial rabbit hole here, but I know people aren't feeling like inflation is cooling when you hear on Friday, oh, we got a good CPI report. And I'm like, what world are we living in?
Yeah. Yeah, and you know something to back up uh what you just said, consumer sentiment um which is measured monthly, consumer sentiment is worse today than at any point in the Great Recession. So that's just evidence of what you're talking about. And you know, the CPI report that just came out, I I find it somewhat hysterical, the Trump White House reaction. Basically, it was expected that that report would be really bad. It was only fairly bad. And that's what they're celebrating that, you know, a report that was bad for the nation, bad for them wasn't even worse.
That's where we are in the Trump economy. So, what's your message to people out there? Like, you know, I mean, obviously, you know, the the hard part is is we're being gaslit and, you know, the regime says it's great. There's no acknowledgment of what to do. They say it's never been better. golden age. By and large, the news media, although they becoming less relevant as Midas Touch and independent media starts, you know, is is replacing them. But, but they're out there paring this and the and the people are left at home saying, I mean, I I I I've saw graphs like this that we've been um that we've been putting out at the Midas Touch Network. If you live in Mike Johnson's district, the Trump Republican cost of living increased $2,000 a year for somebody living in Johnson's district. If you live in Steve Scaliz, $1,960 more that you spent last year. Tom Emmer, you spent also around $2,000
more. We're feeling it. We're feeling pain. And people are telling us, "No, that's not pain. That's love." Whatever they're saying. So, it's like, how do we address it? How do we deal with this? What's your message to people?
Yeah, I was just saying congratulations. You're liberated. Uh we're all we're all liberated. Um living in this post liberation day paradise. You know, if folks out there are curious how much costs have gone up in their area, I I have a great tool on my website, boil.house.gov, um, as ranking member of the budget committee, worked with staff to create this tool in which you could type in your address and see exactly how much costs have gone up in your congressional district because, as you pointed out, some of this varies based on where you live. We know that without a doubt nationally, uh, prices have gone up for everybody. Uh, but this tool will be able to allow you to localize it to exactly where you are. One other point I I want to make uh besides, you know, pointing that that tool out so people can see the facts for themselves.
Let's not forget it's about to get worse in 2026. As bad as it is now, it is going to get worse. Why? because of something we talked about a lot last year, Trump's big, beautiful bill, which at a centerpiece was throwing 15 million people off their health care to pay for tax breaks for billionaires. Most of those 15 million people haven't lost their health care yet because those cuts are scheduled to take place later this year. So on top of the cost of groceries going up, the top of on top of the cost of utility bills going up, oh by the way, the cost of your health care is going through the roof. And we are just at the beginning of seeing millions of Americans lose their healthcare because of Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress.
