I think we've reached a tipping point. A confluence of factors has MAGA Republicans in a mass exodus away from Donald Trump. The release of the Epstein files and the revelations there was only 3 million documents released 3 million documents are still not being disclosed. but 38,000 references to Donald Trump in some of the most grotesque ways and Donald Trump's response that he's completely vindicated while world governments around the world are having reckonings with the Epstein files and Trump saying I'm vindicated when Trump's the person mentioned the most in it.
Then you have the IC and Border Patrol invasions. You have these statements being made by the Trump regime that basically people don't have a right to conceal, carry, or exercise their First Amendment rights. You have the Trump regime uh engaging in all of these lies about the economy and saying things are great where we had one of the worst job loss reports since the Great Recession, you know, and I think it's this 2026 settling in right now. People are seeing a massive crypto crash when Trump said I'm the crypto president and then he wants to put his name everywhere. Golden Ballroom this and I'll give you money New York but you got to put my name on Penn Station and you got to put it on Dulles airport also and I'm shutting down the Kennedy Center and um you people are just like enough of this. And then on Thursday night, he posts an image of former President Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama as
monkeys. And then the statement that comes out of the White House is, "This is an internet meme depicting Trump as the king of the jungle and Democrats as characters from Lion King. Stop the fake outrage and report on something today that actually matters to the American public." I mean, I'm I'm at a loss of words. how disgusting and despicable and my job is words for a living. I mean, you take a look at some of these former right-wing podcasters like Shawn Ryan, still a podcaster, just saying, "What the hell's going on?" Like, take a listen to what he's saying. Play this clip.
I'll tell you one thing that it has proved [snorts] watching the administration dodge it and try to hurry it up and move along. I just saw today they don't they don't think we should the American people should be talking about this anymore. Well, I got news for you. The American people are the ones that voted you in. We're the ones that voted you in and we told you what we wanted before your ass got in there and you're not doing it. None of these people that we elected. It's pathetic. You saw Latino voters back when there was that uh blue tsunami last November. Here's a voter saying, "I voted Trump all the time, but not anymore. He changed." Play this clip.
You voted for the Democrat for Mikey Cheryl? Yes. Why did you vote for Mikey Cheryl?
Um, I vote for Trump before, but now I look the tr I don't look good. That's a vote for Democrat.
You said the economy also when we spoke earlier, you mentioned immigration. What is it about his immigration action? Well, that's that's I'm very sad for this because some people okay care but a lot of people working good the family is the more important in the life.
When Donald Trump spoke in Iowa recently, here's what the voters said there. He needs to get his act together and the our representatives here in Iowa need to stop following his lead. I'm not voting Republican again.
Did you ever vote for him? first time around and he did a good job. But then he got stupid.
What does that mean? Means that he just changed and it's all about him. He thinks he's God and he's going to take over the world.
Show you what they're saying on Fox today. Here, let's play this clip. Happened is also his approval has dropped. It actually hit 16 net points today. 41% approved. That's worse than it's been all the way going back to December of 2017. So, people are not liking what he's doing. And a lot of it is because of the ICE optics. We've seen over the last couple of months an uptick in people who support sanctuary policies and a plurality of Americans now say that ICE tactics are too harsh. Let's bring in Governor Jay Eninsley, former governor of the great state of Washington, recently wrote an op-ed for the Midas Touch Substack where you said, "Let me tell you where this is all going." And people said, "G, you're being hyperbolic. said, "They're going to order the Ice Ages to surround the polling places because they're getting very desperate right now." And people said, "Why is this guy being so
hyperbolic?" And the next day, after Steve Bannon was also named in the Epstein files over and over again, Bannon's like, "I've been talking to Trump. Here's what our plan is. Ice around the polling station." So, you were right as always, go.
Well, it was like, "Thank you, Steve Bannon, for blowing the whistle on your own team there because you're right. I mean, I I everybody's capable of being hyperbolic, but when I posted on social media that we really need the Senate Democrats to insist on a provision prohibiting ICE agents at the polling places, there was the comments that I was making stuff up. And like the next morning, Steve Bannon came to my assistance. Thank you, Steve, and said the quiet part out loud and said, "That's exactly the plan." And obviously when you got like a 37% approval rating, he's going to look for any mechanism to distort the polls. And we need to stretch our powers of imagination of where the bottom is with this guy. And the problem is there is no bottom and there never will be a bottom. So it's really our job to exercise every muscle we've got to assure fair elections. And that includes preventing Bannon and
Trump from putting ICE agents to suppress the vote. Because you can imagine, you know, you put four or six camo rifle carrying ICE agents in front of a polling place in Democratic precincts, what that's going to do to turnout. So, this is a really important issue. I know there's a lot of things that we want into this bill to reform ICE, but I'd put this right at the top because if you lose democracy, you've kind of lost everything. One of the things I think is happening now is people are starting starting but it's growing to look at things through a moral lens as opposed to a political lens. And I think so much of the debates were structured Democrat, Republican, and this person's ahead or that person's ahead. and it gified the human tragedy and suffering that was being inflicted by this guy. What I loved about your oped is that it just channeled the rage that we're all feeling right now. And I think when you
see those clips and when you hear what other people are saying, people are like, just stop with the Democrat, Republican, independent thing. Like this guy in the Oval Office is a freaking monster. is a vile human being doing horrible things to people and he is the worst of what he's not. This is not America. This is the worst of us hurting the best of us. I think that's a pivot that's happening right now. You know, you're missing your words. You're being too kind to him. Actually, I think it's more like, you know, Mary Shel's book Frankenstein could be renamed Trumpenstein. I mean, I'm shocked that he hasn't renamed the Super Bowl the Trump bulb this morning. And you know, the fact that he hasn't done that is a shock. No, this is always I've always believed the most powerful thing in in a political dialogue is is talking about basic values. And at the moment, the actions he's taking is really an affront
to basic values regardless of your political persuasion and to our economic conditions. The value of simply expecting your elected officials to tell the truth. You know, you should that's a basic expectation. And I read this morning his press shop uh explained and defended the the pictures of the Obamas as as as apes, saying, "Well, it was just the Lion King." Well, no, he's the Lion King, L Ying G. And that is a basic value we should expect. And then on the economic basis, people are are are paying through the nose because of his policies. They're paying higher electrical rates because he has put a kaibos on renewable energy which is the cheapest energy. He took a billion dollars. The fossil fuel guys came in and said, "Donna, we'll give you a billion dollars if you'll stop our competition." And he did it. That's a basic value that you don't have uh corruption. So, you know, the ice may be
breaking. I think the Republicans are really skating on thin ice right now. It could break and maybe they will abandon him. But we we can't depend on that. We got to get out on the streets now peacefully and legal, of course. And we've got to find a candidate to elect to the House and Senate this November. That's our job. And I'm glad to see thousands of people doing it. I can't walk past the corner of up here in Berlin without seeing some people holding no king sign. I'm looking forward to more of that. you know, interested in your perspective to see how valueless the Republicans have been exposed for under Trump. You know, they used to always say states rights, strict constitution textualists you know, second amendment purists, first amendment absolutists. And as I always said, yeah, those framings are the tools of the sociopath to try to rig a debate so that they come out with the outcome that they want depending on
which framework they create. It's like a little child who wants to win the, you know, the discussion by coming up with whatever excuse it is to justify the outcome. And they really expose themselves. I mean, I've never heard people talk out more against the Second Amendment ever, like and any political party than I've seen the Republicans since the Trump Gustapo murdered Freddy. Like, you can't have a concealed car. I'm like, Democrats have never said this. Democrats said, "Let's do common sense gun control. Let's give people, you know, bigger, deeper background checks. keep the weapons of war away from you know you know people who are likely to go and do a school shoot like let's focus on the they're like no concealed carriage like what what do y'all believe in well listen this has been a a transformation beyond all human imagination so I've been in politics for 30 35 years and the Republican party was
always a free trade party second amendment uh uh uh party that's what they you know they stood for now They're supporting a guy who is causing us higher cost because of his outrageously insane tariff policies. He's got people saying he's going to disarm anybody who goes to Washington uh DC and he's trampling on state rights and says he's going to nationalize the election. So they have reversed course and I think it's very difficult for us to understand what we're faced here. And this is not uh hyperbole at all. The Republican politicians now act as if they are in a the strongest cult I have ever seen and the cult master tells them what to do every morning and they have no self-respect because he wakes up and tells them what to do. And it's been astounding to me to see these people shed any sense of self-respect. Michael Johnson belongs, you know, he's not a he's not just in a puppet show, he's in
a cult show because they will never challenge him in any significant way. And the only people who have challenged him are the people who are retiring. So the voices you're hearing are the people who are retiring. And so I guess that's the reason I'm trying to focus people's attention and not just being outraged, but to figure out a way how you can get out there in November and actually find a person running who's going to stand up against this madness. Now, at the moment, you look at the election returns of the last special election where, you know, we we had about a 30 point swing.
There is a good possibility that we can get into office majorities to reign him in, but that depends on what we do finding out, find a candidate to go out there and not allow Trump to surround polling places with ICE agents. Now, I hope they'll get that done in this bill. I've been talking to our senators and and there's an increasing, by the way, recognition of this risk, which is good. So, I hope we solve that problem. But one way or another, we got to get people out to vote.
Before we go, what's just your final message, you know, to people? I mean, as you said, you served three terms as governor of Washington, been in politics for the better part of three, four decades. Um, the the these seem to be unprecedented time. Like I I I don't think, you know, you go back even to a Nixon, you know, what Trump does every single day me any day before noon is worse than a Watergate to me. And and I mean, so we're in
beyond constitutional crisis right now. But you know, you you when you and I talk, you still you still have hope. I have a lot of hope and optimism for this country because I think people have been so resilient. Our institutions, a lot of them have fallen. Leaders have, you know, not stepped up. New people have stepped up. But it's been a peoplepowered resistance thus far that I think has saved this country.
Well, I'm a romanticist about the nation. And my friend Brandy Carile is going to sing America the Beautiful before the the Super Bowl uh this weekend. And that's how I feel about the country because I've always felt that we have always been on an upward trajectory to form a more perfect union. And we kind of have always come through difficult days. This is not the only difficult day in the country. They had this little thing called the Civil War. We had the depression. We had to fight for suffrage and civil rights. We've had mass movement shut down wars like the Vietnam War that were so costly to so many Americans. So this this is not totally unique, but I think it's a great time to be an American because it is a moment of great consequence. Whether we will continue to have a democracy is a question right now. Now, I think we will come through this because enough voices are now coming out to be on the streets
to voice their objection to this. And I believe that voters are now starting to show their revulsion against this guy as the last, you know, eight election cycles or elections have shown. But it's a great moment to, you know, to be a real patriot to stand up for democracy. I think that's a privilege. So, I'm cautiously optimistic uh because I think the the the nation is waking up from a nightmare and if we do our jobs, we're going to stop the worst abuses. So, I'll look forward to seeing you at the polling places and on the streets.
And I look forward to seeing you again soon for another interview. Governor Jay Eninsley, former governor of Washington, threeterm governor, and uh one way or another, we'll make you a mightest touch contributor even if you don't.
By the way, before we go, go Seahawks. Okay, it's it's our year. So, just so you'll know.
All right, we'll see. We'll see everybody. Well, it's better than the Patriots, everybody. I won't say that. I want I don't want to divide. We'll we'll edit that point out and post everybody.
I will just remind people that the the owner of the Patriots gave a million dollars to the Donald Trump inauguration campaign. So, when you decide who to root for uh this weekend, you might take that under consideration.
