Cinematics are an important part of many game titles. However, some of the best demonstrations of cinematic and atmospheric expression that comes to my mind is none other than Replaced, a 2.5D cyberpunk styled world, one set in a post 1970s timeline after a major nuclear catastrophe with cybernetic humans, corrupted organizations, and government and the whole works. But today, the devs at Sadcat Studios have just released their 30inute gameplay demo. I personally have been waiting for nearly a year now for the devs to release just a small peek at what is in store. So today we're going to be running through the game and absolutely stunning artistic world that the devs have designed for us and learn some more about what the actual world of Replaced is about. All right, boys. What is up and welcome back. Today we are going to be playing the Replaced demo. It just came out today. I have been anticipating
this game for over a year now. Uh, from what I understand, the devs have released basically a 30 minute kind of demo version of the game. I assume it's going to be some kind of like, you know, miniature slice of what they have or what they're working on. But yeah, let's just let's just get straight into this. I'm really excited to see what they've actually cooked up here. So, it's loading up. Wow, the visuals on this game are so cool. Just from what I've seen
me as an AI, use my creator, the operator Warren. Reach grief over the death of your only friend. My co-creator Steven caused critical overload that blew up my servers. A damaged neural interface somehow transferred me into your body, Warren. Oh, so we're sharing with someone. Damage control squad arrived at the burning laboratory, not to help the survivors, but eliminate them. Okay. Yeah, that was in the trailer. We had to flee. Our escape forced us beyond the Phoenix City wall. Okay. Our priorities are to survive, get back to laboratory, and return your body to you and cover the Phoenix Corporation's motives. So this is right after when we escaped the facility in the trailer. Okay, we can walk around.
Okay, I can jump. Very beautifully animated. Oh. Oh, this is my um music. I don't have any music. Okay, I see. We have scans. Huxley. Okay, so this is the watchman from what I understand. I guess we'll use that for a lot of other stuff later, but we get a little music device. That's kind of sick. Okay. Press space to jump. Hold space while running to jump higher. Okay. Oh, I see. Okay. Nice. Welcome to Phoenix. Jesus, that's so beautiful. Oh my god. Look at that. Wow.
This is crazy. Collapsed, destroyed construction equipment. Everything's abandoned. Still cars here. Oh, just tripped. Okay, I see. I see. Oh, move objects. Okay, some bins to move around. Oh, okay. Yeah, we need this to climb this barricade. There's a house for sale back there. Okay. And use that to climb up. There we go. Experience replaced. This demo features the Huxley gun ability which is obtained at a later stage of the game. Okay, I see. Okay. Basic attack, counterattack, jump, dodge, finisher, and restore all.
Okay gotcha. So, we're going to get a weapon pretty early on here. Oh, shoot. Here we go. How do I use my gun? Hold on. What are the controls? I forgot. Gun blast slash finishers E. Okay. Counterattack is right click. Okay. That's why I right click. Oh, I see. Okay. Tab to restore health. So, I just counter it. So, it's a it's it's really like a like timing a parry thing. Okay. Nice. Good counter. Good counter. Rolling. Okay. So, I make a charge up for my uh my gun activation. Oh my god. Oh yeah, that is sick. Going roll over here and punch this guy.
Counter. God, that's so cool. Oh. Oh, I just shot the wrong way. Need to time my rolls better. Don't have much health regen I can use. Roll. Nice. And we got to charge back up in our gun. Good [ __ ] Let's figure out what's going on over here. Southwest Labor District, Phoenix. Phoenix City. Okay, so we're headed back. This district was part of Phoenix City before the wall was built. The wall? Holy [ __ ] What is that? Oh, is that an anchor? Oh my god. Got some alcohol up top there. Need a sip of that after this. Keep the damn car city. I'll get this ready. Okay, these people threaten our existence. We need to be discreet to survive.
Okay, so we got to wait. We got to pause here. Okay, I'm going to let it pass one more time when it goes behind me. Go go go. Okay, we'll wait. We'll wait. They are holding us down right now. Look away, bro. It's not that deep. We need to adapt to the light beam pattern. I got you. I got you. I don't know if that can I don't know if that's adequate cover over there. Okay, I think it is. Go ahead. Does it say aliens back there? It's a hunt night. What? I have to fight this guy. Oh, he didn't see me. Yep. Keep going.
Scenery is actually so beautiful though. All these enemies over here. He's got an axe. New taste of Phoenix fizz. Got to climb up this thing. We're going to get seen. Okay. Some uh some graffiti going on over here in the diner. Wish I could roll. This area is getting progressively hostile. Yet we managed to survive. Okay. Thank you. Reach. Oh, got to climb this. We can get a haircut over here. What's this scan? Eviction notice. You are hereby notified to vacate this residential property by November 20th, 1970. Okay, so this is in the 70s.
Obviously, different kind of timeline altogether. I know this is a cyberpunk styled uh game, but 1970. Unless this is just a long time ago. Reason for this eviction notice is the finalization of the Phoenix City Infrastructure Reorganization. As stated in the lease, you will apply for accommodation with the wall at any Phoenix Corporation until November 15th. Living condition improvements are distributed among applicants on a case-by case basis. To vacate on this property will result in legal recourse. Thank you in advance. Interesting. We have all these. What are these?
Catastrophe. 1965. Catastrophe began long before the 16th of July 1945. No one asked if we wanted those military tests. No one ever told us what the radiation was. Manifestation of symmetrical government indifference toward the people. Priority of politicians was to silence the witnesses and cover up the real scale of the catastrophe. Oh my gosh. Hundreds of thousands of American lives were lost. Over a third of our territory became unlivable. So there's some kind of economic and government level collapse that brought about the Phoenix initiative which created private hospitals, research facilities, charity organizations. That seems good. They were fighting death, construction, death and destruction. Today the initiative evolved into a full-scale corporation.
It continues to inspire and support people in the pursuit of better societ. Okay, so what I understand, major catastrophe happened. The Phoenix Corporation took over and helped and saved many people. But it seems like from what I can gather that they eventually became bad organization obviously. Goodbye letter. A person moving out. Interesting. That is interesting. Mama's coffee shop. God, this game is so pretty. Look at this. The visuals are insane. Oh my god, I love this atmosphere. It's like crumbling cyberpunk style.
Okay. Something to get up top there. Do I need to drag something over? Hold on. Might have been something I needed to climb. Yeah. Why did I need to climb? Oh, do I need to swing bar to bar? Hold on. Oh, nice. Okay, we got a Spider-Man. Spider-Man the [ __ ] Oh, okay. Let's try that again. What? Uh, I'm not really sure what I was supposed to climb there. Okay. Bar, swing, jump, swing, jump. Can we Oh, can we climb this? Oh, yes, we can. Okay. actually like that this terrain isn't like 100% clear on like what you need to jump to and you actually have to like explore the area yourself. Um, okay. Am I supposed to grab this box? Yeah. Yeah.
Okay. So, I move this. Okay. So, we got that. Assume that's all we need. Just get this thing moved over. This is a really I love the atmosphere so much in this. This is fantastic. Okay, so we climb up and we can get through the window. Nice. Good [ __ ] Oh, termite Josh. What's all the fuss out there? Oh, this is someone. Okay, the termites might be the mole's bastard again. Blondie went apeshit after we offered his patron. Keep your bloody eyes peeled. Okay, it's the people in this building, I assume. Be very careful. Oh my god, there's a whole crowd of them right there.
Oh, I'm going have to fight them, aren't they? Oh shoot. Okay. Yep. Here we go. Let's do this. Oh shoot. What is he shooting? Oh my god. Okay. Got to be care I got to be cognizant of when he fires. Roll. Roll. I want to save my gunshot for him. Ooh. Execution. Roll. I have a lunge ability. Ooh, he got me. Yeah. Let's target out this sniper guy here. Oh, I did. I kind of wasted that. Roll. Nah, buddy. You're done. Good [ __ ] Scan. Pawn. Shopkeepers note. Let's take a look. Wait. I wonder what the music's going to be like. Organizer. What is this? Get back to Oh, that's just the plans. Okay. P on shopkeepers note. Here we go. Laura, always always check everything with the dossmeter. Emitters are still dangerous.
Plus, 100% scavenage from the dirty lands. I don't need that crap in my pawn shop. I assume that's still like radiation type stuff. God, the detail in this game is so good though. Okay, here we go. Carts. Okay. Feel like I've seen the scene somewhere. Yeah, this is a very interesting 2.5D cuz like I still have depth uh movement that's like only only applying in certain scenarios. Okay, that thing is electrically shot. Oh, there's a train. Okay. Okay, now we got to be getting cognizant of our of our movements here.
Oh, am I moving the object with it? Oh, okay. I didn't realize I didn't realize that I needed to actually um Okay, move it only when the light's not shining. I had I just kind of assumed they'd be too stupid to realize. Okay, don't shoot me. It's be hard to move. No moving. We're good. Okay, stop. That thing kind of looks like a a Titanfall Titan the way it's like hanging from. It's got like little arms and stuff. Okay, we got it. Climb up this. I assume we can climb up here. Yep. Oh, do I got to jump? Okay. Do some parkour stuff here. Nice.
It's like a hole here. As as if God, the atmosphere is so good. When this game comes out like fully, this is going to be sick. Okay, big jump. Giant collapse on the floor. Oh. Oh my god. Be careful. Bunch of like drill press machinery and stuff here. I don't know what we're going to Oh my god. Oh shoot. Oh, that's bad. Roll. Counter. Counter. Counter. Please counter. Oh, my right clicks were not working there. Okay. Gunshot. You're dead, buddy. Oh my god, that's so cool. Counter. Roll. Roll. Roll. Trying to time these counters.
Okay, the lunge is basically spacebar into left click for basic attack. Counter roll. Roll. Execute. There we go. Good [ __ ] Oh, just hit a flip into his face. Hell yeah. Oh yeah. Drop kick in his ass. Execute him, [ __ ] Hell yeah. Nice. The combat in this is pretty cool. I like I feel like they can expand a lot of mechanics. Like right now it's just fist fighting, but like when we deal with like a lot of heavy bruisers and how to like bait out mechanics and stuff, I think it's going be pretty cool. What is this skin?
What is this? Breachers diary. Okay. 4166. Okay. is 1967. Our congregation is fading away. Last week, a whole district was evicted. The upstanding ones were offered modern accommodations in the city center. Some move west, but most agreed. And those who remained interested neither in God nor in the devil. Okay, this is let's see here what date this 4 days later. Who am I to compete with the Phoenix preachers? Their sweet promises describe a carefree life of comfort protected by the walls they build. But what will be the price? And who chooses who's worthy?
They say they're building the arcs, but I see Babylon towers. Unfortunately, it seems like this man was right. Okay, so we know there was a catastrophe. Phoenix Corporation brought people in. They built these walls, uh, and they're bringing people in basically, and that's their, you know, salvation supposedly. Obviously, there's a deeper story behind this because everyone was loving this when whatever the catastrophe was occurring, whatever caused it, I guess. Wow, the design of these like destroyed houses. Okay, we got some more enemies to fight here. Okay, I assume these guys are robots because I mean they're all identical and there's no humans left either. So, let's take this guy out.
Counter. Okay, I think I need to time it better with uh my right. Okay, no, it's when it's yellow. I think it I think when it's a red hit, I cannot counter it, but I have to dodge or attack him to stun lock him out. Yeah, good [ __ ] Nice. Looking pretty good here. Oh shoot, we got the light here. We got to run. Oh, we got to run. Get out of here. Time to go. Time to climb. Get the hell out. Get the blazes out of here. Come on. Okay. Hey, get in the building. We're good. We're safe. Okay. And go down. Okay. It seems like there's stuff up. Is this stairs here? No. No.
Okay. We got to go down. Let's head down. See what's going on here. What is that on the back wall? To use this terminal. We need to power up the generator first. Okay, pick this up. Is this a battery, I assume? Okay, that's that's the terminal. That's the terminal. So, we got to go follow the wires, I assume. Is it plugged into here? Is this the generator? Oh, nice. Okay, that's plugged in. I assume we're good. And this is the terminal. Oh, no. That's just that's just turning it on. Okay. What are the Oh, that's a platform.
Oh, I see. We can jump across now. Okay. Yeah, let's go back up. Nice. Now we can make it across here. Very good. That's some cool art on the back wall there, though. It's like a skull. Okay. What's this scan? Inaugural address. Oh, what? My friends and fellow citizens, since this century's beginning, a time of tempest has seemed to come upon the continents of the earth. Our own country, it has been a time of recurring trial. We have passed through the fallout of our own ignorance and lust for power. This fact defines the meaning of this day. You summoned us to complete our dedication to the service of the people of our great nation. Yes, we quit the unnecessary and brutal war. Yes, we kept our country together upon facing the shadow of nuclear catastrophe. Yes, we finally focused on our own people and our own future. But that is not enough.
It's time to rebuild our nation, to rise from the ashes. We came to this world not to fight, not to kill, not to conquer. We came to this world to prosper and provide God's will. It's an inaugural address. Is this the president speaking or is this president of the Phoenix company at the time when they saved the people? Nothing reflects God's will better than the will of the people. People who didn't flee and didn't back down. America's finest sons and daughters, the Phoenix Initiative. Okay. Everything we achieved in these seven years wouldn't be possible without the initiative struggled to make things right and carry on this unity. To meet the challenge of our time, let me announce day one decrees. Unprecedented budget quotas for medical, biology, and social programs and research. There are too many to heal, and we will achieve this. Total nuclear power use embargo.
God granted our lands with endless nature gifts. We will use them rationally and safely for everyone's wellness. Interesting. No more nuclear power. Okay. New jobs and quotas for those who are willing to serve America alongside us. And the Phoenix Initiative mines factories scientific universities. Let us build our future together. Constitutional prohibition of any participation in war. We will show the world that true greatness is achieved by faith, hard work, and technological revolution. Finally, the creation of special government committees with the Phoenix Initiative elected representatives. They knew how to save our country. They know how to lead it to the future. My citizens, I thank you. Okay. So we had a partnership of a large conglomerate corporation that was doing good for the people. It seems like the president is allowing them into the many facets of government which historically speaking never ends too
well. At least it seems they did good for a while until now. Back to the roots archive poster. Mine more coal for a better tomorrow. Okay. You know, it's fascinating because they outlawed nuclear power and now they're bringing back, you know, other means of power production like coal, which is arguably worse for the planet than than nuclear. But that's that's just my hot take, I guess. Um, yeah, back to the coal mines, boys. You heard it here first. Okay, that's interesting lore that we now know. Uh, I assume we should get out of here.
Yeah, this door here. Okay, back to the older means of energy production. Oh, these guys are reach. I assume it's pointless to communicate with them, Warren. Hey, prick. You think you're a big deal? Well, let me tell you something, brother. I'm going to rip you from limb to limb. Oh, boy. Let's get it. Let's take him down. Oh, execute him. Nice. Taking out the guy with the range. How do I time this? It's not much anticipation. Uh telling me exactly when he's going to fire. Go ahead. Oh, I can. Yeah. So, I cannot counter red attacks. Only only yellow.
Ah, shoot. Roll. Oo. Let's take a leap here. Let's execute this guy. Nice. Okay. Okay. Yeah. So, I need to hit like space and my basic attack counter roll. I'm going save my gunshot for this big boy. Oo, he got me. Okay. Not good. Yeah, you take that roll. Okay, so he has a charge sprint move. Yep. Ooh. Okay. Wow, that did some good damage. Let's heal. Roll. Oh, he got he got double attacks. Okay, we got to be careful here. Roll. Yep. H for behind. Roll. Okay. Yeah, his double attacks are uh throwing me for a loop here. We got no more heals. Roll.
Roll. Yep. You're going to do double hit. Yep. Roll. Yep. Okay. So, does he He always switches back when I roll through. So, I might be able to roll Roll. Double hit. Roll. Hit him again. Gunshot. Nice. Took him down. What is happening? I don't like this pause. Oh god, it's the train. The sniper. Quite a thrill to chase. Oh boy. I have no solution for the situation. Oh, thanks Reach. You're the best, man. We roll. Oh my god, it's the Batmobile. Hey yo, bro. Pulled up Tempest. Hell yeah, baby. Did you see that? Jazz.
Tempest the action movie coming to theaters near you. But no time to waste being Austra. Climb on the wreckage before the backup arrives. Hell yeah, bro. Oh my gosh. Got to get to that car. We got to go driving donor. Yeah, there was a lot of mentions about donors for the hospital, too. I guess it was just from the relief of all the um displaced people during nuclear catastrophe. Who's this guy? Tempest. Bro, looking like a rock star right now. Oh boy, that was a close one back there. Yeah, it was close, but no cigar.
Man, you're tough as hell getting so far. Taking out the termite trash along the way. Better watch out for you or you'll steal my job. I usually grab the newbies right from the pit. If I'm swift enough, that is. Oh, whatever. Name's Tempest. I am reach like Richard or like that bloody homicidal court machine. Yeah, whatever that means. You're so right. Just joking, dude. Relax. Who am I to judge names? You're okay, Reach. I'm taking you to a safe place. Type [ __ ] dude. Make like a banana split. Okay. Uh Reach's state. How to get back.
Termites. Let's ask about the termites, actually. Why are you not hostile? Why should I be? Is that what they say about us in the city? Okay, so he's a termite then, is what he's implying. Every human I've encountered showed extreme aggression. Don't see termites as humans. Dude, they're violent scumbags. They hide in old shafts and use mine equipment to hunt for us for fun and for food. Jesus. So if you see him, you kill him or run. Okay. Reaches state. We're fresh out of the hatch disposal. You're quite capable. What body part did they take?
This body is whole, just mildly injured. And how did you get here? I escaped and then I fell from the wall and somehow survived. Huh? Can't decide if you're lucky or not. This place you landed in. The Phoenix Corp dumps its waste here. Okay. And we're the waste or disposals if you like. All right. Let's uh let's ask how to get back. You need to get back behind the wall as soon as possible. It's always this way, you know. Denial to start then. Sweet sweet acceptance. Okay. There's quite a lot of people that are in my situation, I guess. Come on.
Have you seen the freaking wall? It's inseparable. So, unless you can fly or melt [ __ ] with your eyes. Wait a sec. That gun. Can you use it? Yes. I found it on a dead trooper. Had a bolock malfunction. Why never? A Phoenix gun a disposal can use. Man, I cannot wait to see the council's faces. This will make them change their tune for sure. Reachy boy. Jump in the car. Yes. Let's get in the car, bro. I want to go driving. Crazy walk away though. I recognize this man. Warren Wolf. Wolf herd. I misread that. We should follow. The troops will be coming back for him.
Okay. see where this guy's headed. Okay, that was it so far. Um, yeah. So, there wasn't actually that much content, but we got to, you know, use the gun, use like the base mechanics and stuff like that. Um, so we have a little bit more information. Uh, I'm actually going to go ahead if, by the way, guys, if you haven't already, Wishlist replaced. It's It's a really cool style game. Uh, we're going to go back though and I'm going to rerun through the logs on the watchmen. Uh, just because I'm I want to read all the lore. So, uh, at least we kind of get like a gist of what's been going on.
Okay, we can go straight into this. Okay, so yeah, tutorials organizer return to the laboratory remains a priority. Okay. Yeah, so scans. So, we didn't read all these. So, we got Huxley standard police firearm issued by the Phoenix Corporation. Let's switchly quick switch between baton mode, laser gun mode, built-in bioshock, prevents the gun from being used by unauthorized citizens. So, we are glitching through the system right now. This is our med stem. Okay. Yeah. Helps us if we're damaged. Little to no effect on chronic diseases. Gotcha. Survivors memoir.
Okay. So, we have the survivors me. We haven't read this. So, then the med staff began to die right next to their patients. Now, it's known as secondary contamination, but back then we called it a curse. punishing people who dared to oppose the end of times who knew the affected people who were the source of the radiation as well. Interesting. Okay, so I'm gathering nuclear war radiated parent patients. They didn't actually know they were radiated and those were spreading the rads to other people when they were getting in contact trying to help them. A lot like Chernobyl. That was a great show by the way. Mr. Rise stops to catch a breath to stop the transplanted tissue rejection.
He has to rely on immunosuppressants and recent human sorry recent common cold left him in a weakened state. Okay. So they're transplanting tissued people I suppose that are you know their organs are failing from the radiation. One thing for sure he continues that thing didn't discriminate black or white man or woman rich or poor. Everyone was stripped off their skin and left to rot the same. To fight back we had to learn what united really meant the hard way. Jesus. Then we have, yeah, we had the Catastrophe started in 1965. Trinity Catastrophe board game box. Car box containing economics themed educational board game licensed by Phoenix Entertainment. A premise on the box suggests tons of fun for the whole family while trying to rebuild a crashed economy and establish a better society.
The development of science and human medicine. Yeah. So, they built board games which if we look very closely, I think we can clearly see uh a Monopoly guy. Oh, yeah. No, it says it says Phoenix Poly. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Monopoly but rebuild civilization. Yeah. Yeah. Got to have the uh propaganda instilled into the lives of the kids, you know. Okay. Yeah. So, this is the goodbye letter. Uh, Miss Jackson, I'm done. The city turns into what it was before. All the being donor is an honor [ __ ] A bum dumpster. I tried to be empathetic as you've asked me, but those scumbags are called disposals for a reason. Not even the Prospero accommodation center would take them in. What does that mean? Are those the semihuman people like us? I'll be moving out in 2 weeks. My sister says it's the same in the West, but I need to see it with my own eyes. Hope you'll find a new tenant fast, even though I doubt it. You should have traded your
property for a tower apartment when you had the chance. You can keep my prepaid rent. Kind regards, Thomas Johnston. Yeah. Well, um, if you guys enjoyed this was the replaced demo. Really beautiful little slice of the game. I I certainly imagine that the game is going to be a lot longer than this when it comes out. Obviously, there's a lot of functions that weren't included. Oh, he's a little emote there. But yeah, just kind of the scenery of this game. It's so stunning. just this weird like 1950s alternate timeline type aesthetic where you know technology seems to have advanced really fast uh in that time and we have you know humanoid robots with download intelligence and interesting kind of world development as we kind of like read through the lore kind of seeing how the Phoenix Corporation seems to be what took over to you know help citizens and people that were you know affected by nuclear war uh and then they were even
let into the facets of government because of how much they were helping humanity. Obviously, uh since our character escaped this, that is no longer the case. They started turning on the people and killing them. So, I'm excited to see when this game comes out. Uh I'm really curious about the game lore, but I think what they have so far is is really good. Um I presume this is a very tiny slice of the game, but yeah, this is a very cool kind of take on the dystopian world. It's realistic, you know, companies getting into government and all that stuff. Um but man, this is this is a pretty game. So, I thank you guys so much for watching. This is uh really cool. Make sure to wishlist this on Steam. It's not sponsored, but I just think this game is really cool. So, uh I hope you guys enjoyed. Yeah, I guess we'll uh we'll see y'all when this game is actually finally out. Peace out.
