The Padre. The, Padre, Hotel. Paranormal, activity, of, Bakersfield's, own haunted hotel.

I, think, it's, time, to, do, some investigating. What, is, that?, What? I, heard, white.

It's, behind, you., I, don't, like, that. That's, not, really Oh, my, god., Look., Literally, in, the corner.

There's, like, a, shadow. how you're feeling like, we, shouldn't, be, in, this, room.

The, Padre, Hotel,, once, called, the, finest hotel west of the Rockies, is now home to guests that are both living and dead. The hotel opened its doors in 1928. A beautiful eight stories and 196 rooms quickly becoming the top choice for Bakersfield tourists. But tragedy came quickly. Between a fire on the seventh floor that killed an entire family, or the earthquake that trapped and killed guests in the basement, or even an eccentric former owner building a fake missile and pointing it at city hall. Throughout its near 100year history this hotel has always been a magnet for the, paranormal, weird., All right,, so, we just got here at the Padre Hotel uh here in Bakersfield, California. How do you feel about staying here tonight?

I'm, pretty, scared., The, building, itself has a very ominous vibe to it. So, like Tower of Terror vibes or something.

Yeah,, I, kind, of, agree, with, that., It's got some Tower of Terror vibes. We've got room 703 and 704 tonight. 704 is supposedly the most haunted. So

I'm, like, feel, scared., I'm, like, I'm, like so traumatized by tweakers. Like, it's not even funny.

Tweakers. Yeah. Okay., Well,, at least, tonight, we, will, be safe from the tweakers, but can't say the same about uh spirits and and and paranormal activity. Since opening in 1928, the Padre Hotel has been a symbol of luxury, tragedy, and ghostly legend. Built during Bakersfield's oil boom, it quickly became known as the finest hotel west of the Rockies, attracting celebrities and high society. But the glamour was quickly overshadowed by tragic stories. Starting with 1950 a fire on the 7th floor claimed the lives of a family with children. 2 years following the fire, a series of devastating earthquakes hit Bakersfield. At the time, they were compared to the strength of 2,000 atomic bombs. Despite the Padre Hotel still standing after these quakes, the hotel was shaken enough to trap and kill guests in the basement of the hotel. Following these tragedies, eccentric owner Milton Spartacus Miller waged a 45-year war with City Hall. Despite the city telling

Miller his building wasn't up to code he would continue to spar with city hall for years, covering his hotel with obnoxious signage. One of such times Miller placed a 30-foot sign on top of the hotel that read Alamo Tombstone. At one point, he took it even further by mounting a fake missile on top of the hotel and pointing it directly at city hall. Though, after years of battle in 1966, Spartacus Miller and the Padre Hotel lost their battle with City Hall. The city condemned the third story and above. Miller did not care and was often reported letting friends and squatters stay in the condemned floors. After Miller's death in 1999, the hotel would have a long journey to recover from the damage that had been done. Some guests and employees believe that Miller's chaotic ownership has resulted in the paranormally active state the hotel has landed itself in. All right, we're in the, Padre., It's, kind, of a, cool, place., We

did get in contact with some of the hotel staff before coming here and they've got some pretty crazy stories apparently. So, it may look nice now but uh maybe after hearing some stories it won't look so nice. So, let's come talk to you. Nice to meet you, man. Your name is

Ray. Ray. Yeah. Awesome., You've, got, some, ghost, stories to tell us. Yes,, I, do., Uh, I've, worked, here, for, 2 years and um the most one that stands out the most to me is I was walking through our basement. As I was walking halfway down past our pastry room, I seen a lady walking down the other hallway. In my mind, I'm like, that's weird. this from boys only. So I tried to tell her, you know, she can't be here. As I'm trying to say this, I see her walk right through what I thought was the hallway, but as I got closer, I noticed it was our wall that separates our laundry room from our hallway. Gosh.

Working, here,, I, felt, things, tug, on, my apron. The water pictures we keep on our little metal shelf on the wall just flew off, and, almost, hit, one, of the, servers, in the head. That's a pretty common one actually. Things flying off the walls in the kitchen. One of the housekeepers that's not here right now was cleaning. She's mopping the stairs just out here. She noticed footprints downstairs that weren't there before. And they're still out there right now. If you guys go check it out, you can see them going down like they're walking down the stairs.

Oh, my, gosh., These, stairs, out, here. Fair, enough. Oh, my, gosh. I'm, Nancy.

Nancy., Yeah. All, right. I'm, the, night, auditor. The, night, auditor., And, how, long, have, you been working?

Uh,, a, about, a, year. And, you've, already, got, ghost, stories. A, lot. Interesting., We'll, lay, it, on, us. recently and I'm passing by the staircase and I see a young lady like about maybe early 30s and I see it and I kind of just like you know like nope like just straight to the elevator straight to the elevator I know it's not human so I was just like all right kept it to myself on our PA she comes in around 5:30 in the morning and she was like, hey, you, know what, this, ghost, uh punters must be doing something cuz they were messing with their Ouija boards and they were telling me without her knowing that I saw what I saw she goes yeah they were telling telling me that on the fifth floor this girl committed suicide and killed herself. It doesn't say when or what era or how recent and nothing but it was very clear. It was definitely, you know, an event. It was definitely an event.

Okay,, sun's, starting, to, go, down., It'll be night time here in about 30 minutes. How you feeling?

I'm, really, scared. What, scares, you, the, most, about, this place so far? I think hearing two different people speak and their stories like

kind, of, validates, what, they're, saying, a bit. Yeah. The hotel's lobby is said to be home to the ghost of a young girl, a spirit so active that staff have grown accustomed to her presence. The girl often tugs on shirts and aprons, especially when employees pass through the pharmacy cafe. Her small handprint has been spotted on one of the caf's wooden columns, and no matter how many times it is scrubbed or refinished it reappears. Sinks in the nearby public restroom will turn off and on by themselves, and the locks on the bathroom stalls sometimes rattle as if someone unseen is trying to get in.

Co-workers have even reassured new hires by saying, "Oh, that's just the ghost." The Long Island medium, Terresa Caputo claims to have communicated with the girl, who told her that she and other spirits aren't trying to haunt the place. They simply just love it there. Guests have described the unnerving sensation of being watched from across the lobby or hearing a faint giggle with no children present, lending the entire space an uncanny mix of warmth and unease. We are in the lobby. It's now dark out as you can see and uh I think it's time to do some investigating. We're going to use EMF sensor just see what we see. Just explore a bit.

Okay., Already, it's, pretty, steady. Oh interesting. Dang, it., Peaks, there. We're, definitely, picking, something, up right here. Okay, it's gone down.

Oh,, I'm, pretty, sure, these, are, the, stairs that everyone was telling us when we got here.

She's, mopping, the, stairs, just, out, here. She noticed footprints downstairs that weren't there before.

Let's, check, it, out., Maybe., Maybe, they're footprints. Are, they, there? Oh, my., Wait., Look,, look,, look,, look.

Should, I, get, like, a, flashlight? That's, like, an, actual, footprint. Look,, you, can, see, it, better, now.

Are, they, on, every, stone? There's, one, right, here,, too., Look,, look, look.

Wait., Yeah,, you, can, see, the, toes. If I remember correctly, the janitorial staff tried cleaning these footprints off and they they wouldn't come off. And I mean, you can see in this marble, like

that's, like, a, bed. It's, embedded, in, there., It's, underneath. There's another one. It goes all the way up. There's another one. There's another one. Oh my gosh. Look. It's like It's like a bunch of them. 1 2 3 4 5 6.

You, know, what?, It, kind, of, looks, like what? It, kind, of, looks, like, like, you, like, when you skip it looks like someone was like skipping down the stairs or something.

I, mean,, it, checks, out, because, supposedly the little girl spirit hangs out in the lobby and messes with people in the lobby. Clearly, that's what we're seeing here. Well, our EMF reader is not particularly going off here. So, she's not here right now. So, let's do a little bit more looking.

Throughout, the, hotel's, hallways, and service areas, staff have encountered the apparition of a tall man wearing a long white coat. Cook Andreas once assumed he was seeing the chef walking through the hall until realizing the chef was upstairs at the time. Housekeeping employees often report feeling like they're being watched while working. And when they turn to look they sometimes catch a fleeting glimpse of the man before he vanishes into thin air. The service areas on the lower floors, including the basement, are also known for strange activity. These incidents are so common the staff members casually attribute them to the ghost. During renovations, construction workers claimed their tools would mysteriously disappear, which some blamed on the ghost of Milton Miller himself. Displeased with the changes to his beloved hotel, Jack Osborne, Azie Osborne's son and host of the show Portals to Hell, describes the hallways and the back rooms as having a palpable

bad energy. The kind of atmosphere that lingers even after you've stepped away as if the place itself is reluctant to let, you, go., All right,, there, is, our stairway that we're about to head down. This is where the earthquake uh collapsed in.

Supposedly, killed, a, bunch, of, kids. Yeah,, there's, said, to, be, a, lot, of activity down there. So, we're going to head down there.

This, is, an, area, where, both, of, the, people we spoke to and even just like in between, you know, like filming and stuff is said, but there's just a lot that goes on.

Should, we, investigate? Mhm. All, right., We're, heading, to, the, kitchen um to kind of just I guess check out the vibe. Multiple stuff members here said that weird stuff happens in the kitchen like pans hitting over the head and stuff flying off the shelves.

This, this, kitchen, right, here. Yeah,, it's, pretty, creepy., Like, there's like a dark hallway right there that I'm not a fan of. Yeah, we've got a night vision camera. I got our EVP recorder that's supposed to like pick up any sounds or audio. No lie. Like I swear to God I'm hearing like like noises. Yeah. Let's get recording. We have used this camcorder before and seen kind of glitches and movement. Do you see anything?

What's, that?, What's, that? She, stopped., Don't, do, that. What, is, that?, No., Look, at, Look, at, the camera. It's only happening right there. Let's keep keep walking.

I, hear, like, knocking, over, it, or, like tapping or something. I, think, you're, right., Let's, keep, Let's keep moving forward. Let's see.

I, don't, want, to, keep, moving, forward. I I'm definitely hearing something. Wait,, I, want, to, leave., I, don't, want, to be here anymore. It's like it's too

Okay,, hold, on., Hold, on. So, we talked. We're definitely hearing noises in this back corner. And I think for sure we were catching something on the on the camcorder here. But I think it's time we try a different method of trying to connect with these spirits. Okay.

Feels, like, Carrie's, closet., You, know Carrie right? Yeah. The, closet, that, her, mom, sticks, her, in when she does bad. So, for our next thing, we're going to do the essence method, but I want Tashara sitting down. And the only chair that I have found down here in the basement is over my shoulder.

You're, actually, lying., I, want, to, start crying. I, don't, want, I, don't want, to, sit, in there.

I, think, this, is, the, this, is, the, place, to do it. If, I, do, it, though,, if, I, say, like stop, we have to stop.

Okay., Okay., I, don't, want, to, alarm, you, at all, but you are being lit up.

Don't, even, tell, me., I'm, very, scared. Okay. Is, there anyone with us here in this kitchen? If there is someone here in this kitchen, let it be known. We are.

We, are. Okay. Yes. Wow., Okay. Well, okay. So, we That's multiple. Was it the earthquake that killed you?

You here. Okay. You okay? Sure. What's up? You okay? Did, you, just, like Did, you, just, like, touch, like, rub Did you move at all?

No., Uh-uh. I, swear, I, just, felt, something, like, Are you Are you serious? Like, did you you have

I, was, recording, the, whole, time., I've been standing here. Do you want to take a break?

Yeah,, kind, of., I, do. Okay., Okay. We took a little break. I put away the camcorder and I pulled out our thermal camera here. It should hopefully show us if there's anything moving in the background. You ready?

Yeah. If, you, are, the, little, girl,, let, us, know. Ew. What's, up? It said, "Yep." Like it literally went like, "Yep."

If you are it, said, we, came. Okay., We, came., If, there, are, more, than three of you with us right now, let us know.

Ew., Ew., It, said, behind, you., I, don't, like that. That's gross. I'm not even joking. It was like a girl and it was like behind you. Like I'm I don't I'm not sitting there anymore. I'm not doing anymore.

The seventh floor has a tragic history that many believe fuels its paranormal activity. In the 1950s, a fire broke out here, killing a family with children. While we were researching the Padre, we found it hard to find more details on the fire. No reported reason for why it broke out and no identities attached to the victims of the fire. While some locals claim the story was exaggerated during Milton Miller's disputes with the city, others insist the tragedy was real and that its echoes can still be felt today. This floor is known as one of the most active spots in the hotel with unexplained sounds, lights that flicker without reason, and doors that seem to lock or unlock on their own. Visitors have reported hearing the laughter of children. And in 2017, local ghost hunting group Amped and reporter Adam BS used special equipment to draw the young spirits out. They captured footage of toys lighting up on their own along with

sensor screen images showing a small figure moving through the room. Even longtime staff members avoid lingering on this floor alone. And it all seems to culminate in room 704. There have been many reports online of guests experiencing things like faucets turning on by themselves, seeing faces in the ceiling, and even just an overwhelming sense that they were not alone. Okay, we are now on the seventh floor. So far the hallways itself kind of look odd. We're uh we're going to head into 704 here. in 704. All right., Should, we, explore, the, rest, of the room? You know, this room this room actually is a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be. You want to go forward, Tara, and lead lead the charge.

I'm, not, liking, the, vibe. What?, Tell, me, how, you're, feeling., Like, I like I generally feel like like like we shouldn't be in this room.

Let's, uh, let's, set, up, and, see, if, we're see if we're alone. I think what we're going to do is we're going to set up some of these cat ball kind of motion sensor and we're going to set them up on this couch over here and then set up a camera to see if we catch anything happening, anything moving with these. But we'll we'll go explore the rest of the seventh floor while we give our spirits time to make themselves known. We got the camera set up. Before we go if there's any spirits in here that want to make contact with us tonight, go ahead and let us know that you're with us to the stairwell.

All right, we are on the seventh floor and we're going to walk down to the fifth floor. If you are the woman that Nancy saw, was she correct in believing that you took your own life?

I, heard, a, woman. I, definitely, heard, a, woman,, too. That sounded like a little girl.

That, did, sound, like, a, little, girl. You, heard, that?, Did, you, just, hear, Did you hear it say that?

We, are, getting, a, lot, a, lot, of, response here. It feels like Okay, I think we're going to head back up to 704. See if anything's moved, if anything's happened. If whoever spirit is with us if you want to follow us up there, we can try to establish more contact, ask more questions.

Okay,, so, this, is, the, beginning, when, we set up the camera. I'm going to scroll ahead a bit.

Nothing. Nothing. That's, weird., Look,, the, time, code, like stops. It, literally, doesn't, go, past, that, point. The camera was recording though when we got back in. Yeah, it literally freezes. Oh my god. And look, look down here. Look, it's still playing.

Does, it, ever, come, back, on? Uh-uh. Oh, my, gosh. The, Yeah, there, might, be, another, clip.

Oh, my, gosh. Yeah., So,, that's, when, we, came, in. Yeah. We also set up some cat balls in room 703 since we have both rooms tonight. And uh we're about to look at that footage now and see if we caught anything.

Did, you, see, that? Yeah., What, the, hell, is, that? Ew. Oh, my, god. Look. Literally in the corner.

There's, like, a, shadow. Scrub. Oh, my, god. I'm not sleeping in this room. What, the, That's, actually

That's, creepy. That, is, for, sure, a, shadow,, right?, That's not just like the, exposure, doing, something, weird, on the camera.

So,, we, definitely, saw, a, shadow, in, that first clip. Mhm. Without, a, doubt., Yeah,

there's, clearly, something, in, this, room. We are now back in room 704. I think we're going to try to do one final reach out before we split off and go to sleep for the night. Uh, I was thinking that maybe we'll use our EMF sensor, place it between us, and then we will shut off all the lights, use our spirit box, see if we can't get someone to reach out. Mhm.

So, actually, what was that? I, don't, know, if, the, mic, picked, that, up, but there was there was like a loud knock

like, just, on, the, other, side, of, this wall. Maybe that's a sign that they're ready for us. So, I'm going to begin to turn all the lights off.

Kind, of, panicking. Any, thoughts, at, all? I'm just like too scared to like articulate what's going on.

Hello., Did, you, hear? I, heard, Blake, loud., Like, loud, and, clear. I heard Blake. I've got chills.

Yeah. Yeah. Should we ask you a question? We haven't even I'm, scared., I'm, too, scared, to, look. Genuinely.

Yeah., I, think, that, kind, of, shook, me, to my core a bit. I was the footage on the the night vision didn't look the best. So, we're going to move to handheld. I moved the EMF sensor here and but it is currently pulsing. Should we try this one more time?

Okay,, let's, turn, this, back, on. I don't know. The mirrors are just mirrors are weird. I thought I saw something, but I think it's just tissue boxes, or, something., All right., All right. Are you ready?

Am, I, ready? I'm trying to be all right here. Okay. All right., All right., All, right., Okay. Do you know who I am?

I, heard, Yeah. Oh, my, god. I, heard, like, I, I, swear, I, keep, hearing like Blake. Yeah.

Yeah,, that, was, a, female, female, voice this time. Did you hear the Yeah,, I, did.

I'm, getting, chills. That's, super, freaky. Let's, set, this, somewhere. Oh, it pee. It peaks like aggressively. I heard get out. I heard get out. I had trouble.

Oh, my, god., Look,, look,, look,, look., It's squeaking out. Who's, that? What?, What?, What?

I, swear, I, just, heard, like, a, a, knock, or something. Okay,, hold, on., Hold, on., What, do, you, mean like a knock? Like a knock at the door?

I, don't, know., I, just, I, heard, like, a knock like over there or something. I mean, our thing is still going haywire. It was still like seconds ago. Someone at the door.

Did, you, hear, that, one? What? I, swear, I, just, heard, it, again. Can we Can we leave, please?

Leave. Yeah. Or, at, least, turn, the, lights, on. Okay., Let's, Hold, on., Let's, check, the door cuz we staff knows we're filming right? There's nobody there. Okay, here. Uh, here. Just take a break. Let's turn the lights on. Look at that thing, man. It's still going haywire. It's going even more. I pointed it out and it started hitting your head.

Yeah,, I'm, done., I, I, don't, want, to, do this anymore. Okay., Yeah., Okay., All, right., Let's, call it. Let's call it. After hours of exploring the Padre's most infamous hotspots and spending the night in its most haunted rooms, we left with more questions than answers. We caught strange noises and moments where it felt like we weren't alone. Were these experiences the lingering spirits of past guests, or simply the echoes of a building with nearly a century of history and tragedy within its walls? Regardless of which you believe, one thing's for sure. Tashara and I are both more than happy to be leaving this behind.
