Our story begins on a frigid, stormy morning in the town of the Blue Mountains. It's where I grew up and where I got my start as a reporter. I never expected to cover a date line in my own backyard.

I could see the flames. The car was about 75 ft down off the road. I could feel that intensity.

He knew that was unusual for a car fire. We checked the license plate pan. It came back to James Schwah. Detective Schiffman headed straight to his house and rang the doorbell, but no one was home.

I found his profile picture on the front of a fire truck with his family. Firefighter Britney Homeberg had served alongside James for 10 years. She tried calling him, but he didn't answer. Time to track down James's wife, Ashley. What they would find would lead to more questions about how that SUV plummeted off the side of the road. Far more diabolical than you ever imagined. What we uncovered afterwards made it sick.
