Today we dive into the core principles of excuses begone as Dr. Wayne Dyer helps us identify the mind viruses and cultural memes that limit our potential. By learning to live by the towel, you can find a sense of being supported even during life's biggest storms. This video is an invitation to stop rowing against the current and start enjoying the effortless grace of the present moment.

So, you seem kind of relaxed. I wanted to ask you about this because I don't know how you do it. You always seem very like zen and and relaxed and and I was thinking about this over the weekend. Whenever or not all the time, but whenever I have free time, sometimes I have anxiety of how to fill it. I just think, well, what what would Dr. Dyer think about that? He would just be able to relax and sit outside and take in the moment. So, I tried to work on that, but then sometimes I I'm feeling this anxiety that I have to fill my time all the time. It's crazy.

Yeah. Yeah, I have to remind myself uh to calm down as well cuz I have a very busy I guess a busy schedule or a busy life. I have uh you know eight children and uh lots of people that I take care of and u and lots of mail and uh lots of responsibilities and writing things and so on. But um I think for me the practice of meditation is what does it for me. I meditate a minimum of an hour every single day. Most days it's an hour and a half. And um I just uh I get very very quiet and and very very peace and I ve very much look forward to that time and uh uh I never worry about filling up the time at all. It just uh it always just seems to be the right time to do the right thing. I don't get worried about it or consumed with it at all. And they always say,

yeah, they always say that it's busy people that get things done because a lot of times I think I'm I'm one of the laziest people that I know. And yet, you know, I've written like 30 35 or 36 books, produced endless programs and uh movies and uh you know, CD show things and lectures and so on. And people think, my god, you've got such a huge resume. You've done so much. And I think I've often heard it said that if you want to get something done, ask a busy person. You know, don't ask somebody who's got a lot of time on their hands because they're they're usually the ones that don't get very much done.

Yeah. I've also noticed a change in my life, though. I used to be much more consumed with uh having to uh get certain places and uh you know, write certain amount and and have things and and be productive. It was productive productive. And at this time in my life, it's just not that important for me how much I produce. It's just like I always say, this is one of the most my favorite hours of the week. uh it's just an opportunity to sit and talk to people from any place uh you know that that they might want to talk about and it's sort of unstructured and that's kind of the way I like it. It's the way I write my books. It's the way I speak just from my heart.

Yeah. I asked you that before the show. I go you sure you don't like a topic or something and you're like no you just like to talk to people and see what comes up and and that's what's always interesting to me each week is the different stories. And

you know they may be in Philadelphia or France. It it doesn't matter, you know, just people's different stories all over the world. I think that's so interesting.

Yeah, that's it's I I often say that there's only two or three problems that people have and they just, you know, they just come up with different details about them, but uh

they're all over the world. People have basically the same kinds of concerns, right? Well, we've got people rolling in here, but um also, yeah, get a couple of calls. I just wanted to tell people to uh if you're thinking of uh participating in any of the Australia events, if you're down there, if you're listening in Australia today, and we do have a lot of Australian listeners, which is great, uh definitely go to iandoit.net to find out about the Sydney and the Perth events. So, let's take a couple of calls and and get started.

We'll go to Angelica, I believe it is, Atlanta, Georgia on line one. Hello. Hi. Hi there.

You're on with Dr. Dyer. Hi, Dr. Bas. How are you? That's okay. Hey, how you doing this morning or this afternoon or whatever it is in Atlanta?

I'm doing great. I just have a question. I've been working on manifesting some things in my life as far as my career is concerned

and I wanted to see if you had any suggestions as to how I can make those manifestations come quicker. Yeah, I think probably the best way to do it is to not focus on it. Uh, and to stay in a state of gratitude about where you are and to understand that the metaphor I've often used is if you have if you had a wand in your left hand and this wand in your left hand, you could get anything that you wanted. You could manifest anything. You could have a new car, you could have new jewelry, you could have a new home, you could have whatever it is you wanted. or in lie of that in your right hand you had a wand that uh the only thing that you could manifest and guarantee is that you have inner peace for the rest of your life.

No matter what came down the road at you, no matter what struggles, no matter what was happening that internally you would be at peace. You know which one of those would you choose? And almost everybody when they think about it, they would take the one in the right hand just just being in a state of peace, you know. And so most of the stuff that we want to manifest and attract into our lives comes from a a position a belief system internally that says where I am is not complete. Um uh or I'm lacking or I don't have enough. And every time you start thinking in terms of I don't have enough or something is lacking. If you understand the um you know Abraham's work on the uh you know the law of the law of attraction is that this is a universe that matches you up vibrationally with what you are thinking. So if you're thinking about what's missing in your life, if you're really thinking about that and trying to

manifest from the perspective of what's missing, you will be aligned vibrationally internally with a thinking system that says I don't have enough. and the universe will offer you experiences that will match up to what it is that you're thinking. If on the other hand, your internal system says that everything that I have is fine and uh whatever shows up in my life is is going to, you know, and I'm going to put my attention on being at peace and being, you know, and I'm going to do a whole seminar on this in in Maui in October and just a couple of months now.

This is already August, my goodness, on manifesting. I wrote a book about it uh years ago called Manifest Your Destiny. And basically it's it's it get gets down to just being in a state of contentment, being in a state of peace within yourself and imagining whatever it is that you would like to see show up in your life, but uh but wanting it almost wanting it more for other people than you want for yourself and putting your attention on how may I serve rather than what's in it for me. And then just watching and just knowing that um if you think abundance, if you understand that you are abundant, if you understand that think that you are healthy, if you think that you are wealthy and you act from that perspective and you imagine yourself to be in a state like that, you'll find that the universe or God or the Dao or source um matches up with that kind of thinking. It's a very hard thing for us to get to in our lives

because our egos are so demanding and the ego keeps telling you you have to have more. You know, it's uh and if you can get to a place where you just aren't concerned with more and instead of just concerned with being at peace and helping other people to be that way, I say it in the movie in the movie uh of the shift that uh you do not get what you want uh in life. You get what you are, you get what you think. So think in those kinds of ways and just allow just allow it to show up in your life. And it seems to me that it always works for me.

Okay, great. Y what is it that you would like to manifest? What is it you think is missing in your life? And what is your first name?

My name is Angelica. Angelica. How to say it again? Angelica. Angelica. I like that.

Thank you so much. I was going to say I was I was I was I almost said you're not you're not pronouncing it right. And then I thought, wait a minute, this is her name. She probably knows how to say it.

Right. Look, there's a lot of people that think the same way. Yeah. Right. Here, let me tell you how to say your name. Right.

Yeah. Exactly. You're not saying that right. That's that is not the way it's supposed to sound.

But what I'm trying to manifest and my objective has never been for things. I am so over things. I'm not a very materialistic person. But

um I've always been trying to manifest for that exact thing which is peace. And

for my family as well as other people that I don't even know. I just want to be able to be a talk show host of my own show so that I could spread love and happiness throughout the world. So that's what my focus has been.

Uh-huh. Well, that sounds like something that uh you know all you have to do I think you know the greatest gift that you've been given is your imagination. The gift of your imagination and everything that

Yeah. And everything that exists in the physical world everything that exists in the physical world was once a thought. It was once just imagined. And so if you can get yourself to a place where in your imagination you can see that and it's not done because your ego says I I want to be famous or anything like that. It's just this is how I want to serve. You'll find yourself given opportunities to do it. Maybe you'll uh do a little radio show in Atlanta or or even at your church or something like that and you begin to just, you know, interview people and put those things out there and before you know it, u the kinds of things that that's exactly, you know, I'm sitting here at the age of 70 and a lot of people want to know how I did it and all of that and I did it exactly the way I'm telling you. I just I could imagine myself doing it. I would start out at at I was teaching at a university

in in New York at St. John's University and I just decided I wanted to offer uh a lecture series on Monday nights in Port Washington at the educational assistance center. I put a little ad in the newspaper out there uh cuz they gave me some free space and we signed up people. It was for $10. It would be for $10 for four lectures on on four different Mondays. It was 250 a lecture and at the end of the four lectures we only had like maybe 13 or 14 people show up. At the end of the four weeks, uh, I asked how many people would like to continue and they had friends that they would want to, uh, have come as well. We had about 50 people for the second four weeks. And then they started telling other people about it. And before you knew it, I was having, I was at Shriber High School and we would have 11 or,200 people every Monday night coming to public lectures, each of them paying like $5 for for a lecture and so on. And

that's how it started for me. I just started taking off and giving the lectures and then writing books about it. and uh you know and it all came from just in my imagination just wanting to be able to talk to people and entertain them and offer them advice that uh on things that just seem to make sense to me.

Right. So that's how it that's how it works. It started out in a phone booth and now uh we lecture all over the world.

Great. Absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much. I really I want to say your name. I want to say your name again. Angel Say it again.

Angelica. Angelica. I love that. Angelica. Yes. You got to be the only Angelica in the whole country. I'll bet.

Absolutely. There's no other. God bless you, sweetheart. Take care. Namaste. Byebye.

I think it's Angelikava. C A Va. Oh, Angelikava. I love that. That's pretty cool. Angelica. But I wanted to mention to her if she's still listening, you know, check out the movers and shakers events that we have here at Hay House because she could possibly get her own radio show.

Absolutely. That's right. My daughter, in fact, is going to be doing that one in September in Toronto.

Yeah. So, there's a lot there's lots of different ways you can get your your message out there. And, you know, that's half the battle, I think. Put it out there and then see what happens.

Absolutely. Absolutely. So, let's see. Where can we go next? Let's go to Marta in Miami. Marta in Miami Beach on line three.

Hello. Welcome to the show. You're on with Dr. Wayne Dyer. Dr. Dyer, it's such a pleasure. I've I've read your books for so many years. It's such a pleasure to be on the phone with you.

Thank you. Marta. Is it Marta? Marta. Marta. Marta without the h. Oh, okay. I I'm not going to tell you how to say your name. Okay. I promise.

It's okay. The reason why I'm calling today is because through the years I've heard you mention that one of your daughters had issues with drug use, with addiction to drugs. And I'm wondering as a parent how you dealt with that because I am in the same situation with my son. Uh and although he is trying really hard um to stay away from it, you know, I see him sometimes slipping and it's like a roller coaster and it's affecting me and I don't know what to do. I know I'm not supposed to do anything.

Well, I wouldn't say that. I wouldn't say I you know I I Abraham says love you've got to love them through it. Mhm.

Um, and how old is your son? 26. He's 26. Yeah. And what kind of drugs does he does does he slip back?

Um, mainly cocaine and sometimes I I'm thinking sometimes marijuana. Mhm. Yeah. They have a very very strong pull. I've often said the drugs themselves are a um, you know, have an energy all to themselves and they don't want to let you go. It's one of the biggest concerns that I have right now for this generation. that's uh which are the generation of my children and your children in the same age. I have children exactly your son's age is that they that they they have been grown up and been weaned uh in a society in which um taking pills and taking drugs has become the norm. We've gone from I think it was in the early 1990s there was an estimate there was 1.3 billion pills that were being consumed in the United States. 1.3 billion seems like a lot but for 290ome million people it wasn't but today uh just a generation later that number is 109 billion 109 yeah that's a thousand plus fold and you know it's

like again last night I was watching uh 60 Minutes and I just watched the commercials as I was tebo through them and every single commercial on 60 Minutes last night which is one of the highest rated shows in the was for a drug of some kind or another and your son has grown up in a culture in which uh taking pills or taking drugs of some kind or another for virtually every ailment that we have is just the norm. There was a statistic the other day that said that seven out of 10 college students, seven out of 10 kids in college today take a drug called Adderall, which is a form of cocaine.

It's an upper kind of pill that people take and it's it's very much like taking cocaine. Uh you can stay up for a long time, you can concentrate, and you can get your homework done. The only problem is like I have a daughter who's addicted to aderall and when she takes it uh she doesn't just take one or two to stay up. She'll take five or six or seven and before you know it her whole body is out of whack and she has to go into rehab and she's gone through this since she was very young girl and now she's 27 years old and I still struggle with it all the time. So it isn't just the illegal drugs of marijuana and cocaine and so on because the drugs that are being produced today they're in a huge huge system in which uh not only the pharmaceutical industry but the lobbyists in Washington and the congressmen in Washington and the hospitals and the doctors and the advertising people on television.

There's so much money involved in this that uh getting anybody to come in and do something about it. the numbers of young people addicted is growing and growing and growing and growing and the number of young people who are not only addicted but who are uh committing suicide or getting sick or overdosing and so on is just hugely on the increase. I think it's probably that and the obesity crisis are two of the the really big things that we face as a people. We have to look at what we are doing now in the name of money. what we're putting in our food to get people to addicted to food and eat more and more and more now that 31% of our population is obese, which is just alarming. And even larger percentage of them are addicted to one kind or another to a drug. And they're being told every single day that there's another drug that you should try and go to your doctor and see if you can get a

prescription and so on. And we are the only country in the world that allows uh advertising on television for uh prescription medication. So your what your son is dealing with is not just a uh you know maybe an occasional uh lapse into cocaine and marijuana. He has been imprinted on a consciousness which says u uh in order for you to feel good and to be in a state of well-being, you're going to need these drugs. And there's so much reinforcement in the entire what I just described with the lawmakers and the hospitals and the doctors and the advertisers. there's so much money being made that it's really hard to get a grip on this and and do anything about it. So, um my advice, I mean, it's like for me, I mean, and and I'm I'm a former uh you know, drug user myself and uh you know, I haven't had an any alcohol in my system and now 23 years. So, I understand the pull of it and I understand it particularly since I

have a daughter who struggles with it every single day. Even uh right now as we speak, she's always on my mind and I'm always concerned. So what I have taught her and talked to her about is that it is only when you when you get to a place where you decide that you no longer it isn't that you don't want to disappoint yourself or you don't want to disappoint your parents or disappoint others. It's when you go within and know that you have a higher self and that you are a spark of the higher self. You are a fragment of God. You must be like what you came from. And if you can get your son to recognize and understand that highest part of himself and say to himself, I no longer want to disappoint God and I am a piece of God. So it is the highest place within myself. And usually you know when someone finds that spirituality, most of the drug treatment places uh have an element of spirituality and divinity within them.

And if he can find that within himself, if you can help him to find that in some way, and I don't mean by just going to church and reading the Bible or a holy book, I mean by recognizing that he himself came from a place of well-being, perfect well-being. And if he no longer wants to disappoint that part of himself and putting your focus on that and constantly reminding him when you're in his presence, not so much about how disappointed you are that he is uh back doing those drugs, but in how where you can put the focus on his greatness, on his spirit, on the fact that he is indeed a fragment of the divine of God and uh and let that fragment grow into a little bit more of who he is, a little larger piece of himself where it's not just It's a fragment but it's a piece and it's not just a piece it's a component and it's a percentage and you become instead of that uh person looking for a high you become a spiritual being.

You become a spiritual essence where uh drugs no longer have any role in your life whatsoever. Now that's a little lecture. Does that make does that help at all?

It it it it makes perfect sense to me. I just wish that there was a way that I could reach him. He which was actually the best thing that happened to him. He got arrested last year and he was forced to go through this program and as he went through the program he changed and he went back to being his old regular self and it was wonderful and I kept enforcing him you know not to beat himself up by the mistakes but to be proud of how much he's learned and I tried to really focus on the positive but now that program is about to come to an end and in the last few weeks I already saw the old friend starting to come around the phone calls how he immediately starts to pull away from me as you know try to cut communication with me because that way he doesn't you know I don't pick up on the different the subtlety of the changes that that are starting to take place again and my fear is that now when the program is

over he's going to fall right back into it and I just it's so hard I listen we could be soulmates because I have the exact same thing going on in my family and I have it going on right now with that same daughter when she was on drug testing and when she, you know, had to report and so on, she was fine. And when she called me one day and said, "I don't have to do drug testing anymore. Isn't that great that internally I was deeply disappointed because about uh 3 months later, she slipped one Adderall into her body and then all you have to do is count, you know, that one when one goes in, you know, 6 months later, she'll be out of control again." And sure enough, th those have been and when she has been forced to stay away from it and really face herself, she has done well. What I have done for my own peace and sanity and so on,

please. I've detached myself from the choices that she's made and let her know that I understand the pull of it and I don't know how far you have to go with this before you get that lesson. I'm there for you. I love you. I adore you, but I will not allow myself to any longer be dragged down into that morass, into that pit of pain because of the choices that you made that you make. And I've literally detached myself from that. And I don't think about it. I don't focus on it. And I love her through it. And she'll make a step. She'll make two steps forward. She'll make one step back until ultimately uh she will have to make the choice. And if she makes the continues to make the choice that uh she knows that it she it will ultimately end her life. And I can't allow myself to uh because this has been going on for 15 years for me. And

it's up and down. And when she's when she's drug-free, she is the most divine soul to be around. And uh

it's a monster. It's a monster pull. And it's a monster pull that we need to really look very hard at. And her drugs of choice have nothing. She's got prescriptions for all of them. she can get a she knows how to get a prescription anytime for for what it is that she wants. So, she's not in danger of being arrested. She's just in danger of dying,

you know, and it attacks their self-esteem as well. It's just so sad to watch. So, I guess I have just have to learn how to detach from this.

You do. You ultimately have to learn how to detach. But you also help him to find, you know, the divinity because just as sad as what I have just said to you is there's endless cases of people who've turned away from things like crystal meth or heroin and so on and in one moment, one moment's realization have and I've seen my daughter do it. I've seen her do it for years at a time. Years at a time. And I constantly remind her of that. and she has been uh behind bars on this and uh has even said to me just recently that uh you know I am more of a prisoner now than I was when I was locked up. She said, and those were her words, because the prison, the prison is the pull of this drug. And being able to look at this drug and be able to talk to it and say to now, if he can stay in a program, if you can help him to continue to stay in a program and get him to recognize that this is his salvation

because I know that he likes himself better when he's sober than when he's not.

Yeah. Except he doesn't recognize that he has a problem. So that's where I run into the problem.

Mhm. If I talk to him, I I get the it's fine. and I'm not going to do it again. It's it's all is well and I get that speech.

Yeah. So, well, I as like I said, Abraham has some really wonderful advice on this. It was very helpful to me. And she Abraham said, "Love, are you familiar with Abraham?" Yeah. Just kind of Google that and find where she talks about drugs and so on. And she said, "It's like what you have to do, Martineette? What you have to do is love them through it." you know, let them know that you love them, but you're not going to be dragged down by it, and that you're not going to let yourself be uh immobilized by it, that you're almost going to become indifferent to it. You know, if this is your choice now, I mean, this isn't what I'm talking about at the beginning. I'm talking about someone who's been doing this for a considerable amount of time. Let them know, let them know in no uncertain terms, I love you, but I am not going to be taken down by it. And you know, I do yoga with a a woman over here, her

name's Ellie. Uh, and she uh she got herself arrested. She was doing heroin and so on. And um she um got taken into jail and she called again to have her parents rescue her. And her parents said, "Uh, no, we're not doing that. You're going to do your time. You're going to do whatever. We're not paying for your bail. We're not going to do that." And she has told me, and she was 28 years old when this happened. She said that was the thing that turned her around. And she's 43 or 44 now. She's uh running for office over here. She's you know brilliant lady yoga instructor just um you know totally together vegan and changed her diet and everything around.

She said it was when her parents decided to let her deal with it and they were just they were pulling away from it that for her was the turning point in her life and I've sort of let my daughter know that as well. I am not going to be taken down any more slippery slopes because of the choices you make.

Yes. Financially, it's taken a huge toll on me as well, cuz you can imagine attorney's fees and everything else.

I know them. I've paid I've written a lot of checks myself. Yeah, I know that. And that's something that you need to stop.

Yeah. And you need to let him know. Not with words and not with a long lecture, but when the time comes for the attorney to It's like, no, that's you're going to have to resolve this one yourself, even if you have to go behind bars.

Yeah. Thank you, Dr. Dyer. I really appreciate the the frank conversation. Yeah, you're right. I wish I had a better answer for you. Um, it's some I really, you know, I'm with you, darling. I I mean, I feel your pain because uh I I live with it every day.

Yeah. Yeah. Thank you and and good luck to you. Stay healthy. I'll do the best I can. Yeah.

Okay. Thank you. Great. Thank you. Byebye. Yeah. Okay. Byebye. Let's go to Jim on line six calling from Louisville, Kentucky. And welcome to the show Jim.

Yeah. Hi, Dr. Der Dyer. How are you today? I'm good, Jim. How are you, my friend?

Very good, thank you. I appreciate everything you do. I've read a lot of your books and uh ordered a lot of your tapes. And the one thing that you mentioned quite a bit that really intrigues me, I guess to paraphrase is you said that Jesus was quoted as saying that even the least among you can do all that I have done and even greater things. And that just floores me every time I think about that. every time I think about service and and you know what I can do to help other people. Um I think some other translations um the literal ones at least really were referring to John the Baptist for instance I think it said in the New International Version that I tell you the truth among these born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist yet he who is the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. So along those same lines, what on earth do is your interpretation of what

that means? The least among us, meaning I guess the most feeble, the most weak are able to rise up and do even greater things than John the Baptist.

Yes. Uh that's a good great question. We could talk about this for hours. I've contemplated it many many times myself that um you know Joel Goldsmith in one in his book of parentheses in eternity once said that uh in the presence of the god realized that the laws of the material world do not apply. So that when if we're able to reach this place of uh of God realization where we're in alignment with the source of our being where we I just call it thinking like God thinks you know which is what Einstein's famous quote was. I just I all I don't care about the details I just want to learn to think like God thinks like uh whatever the source of being even if you're an atheist uh there is a source of uh you know there is an invisibeness from which all all visible things uh originate. I mean the greatest scientists on the planet will tell us that you know that and and in the Dao it says very clearly that uh you know that

all being originates in non-being. So whatever that non-beingness is, the closer you get to how you think it acts and feels. And it's very interesting because when I I wrote a book a few years back called the power of intention, it was that idea that principal idea that there is a way for us to uh to that that intention isn't something that we do through the ego. Intention is a field of energy from which all things are intended. And if you can stay aligned with that what that is like, then that's and that's when the miracles take place. And I I've done endless programs and lectures and so on and contemplated this stuff on in front of very large audiences and and on tapes and so on.

Basically what I feel is that as you elevate your consciousness as you begin to remove the influences and the power and the draw of the of the ego and begin to substitute your inner mantra shifts from uh what's in it for me and how can I have more to how may I serve and what may I do for you. As you get to as you do consider yourself less and your own ego less your false self less and more about just serving then that's when the miracle that's when healings take place that's when uh abundance begins to show up that's when uh you know that's what they said even of Jesus I mean when when he he was god on earth I mean uh like Buddha you know uh and in the presence of that kind of realization even death itself couldn't survive even illness can't survive that um

you know that uh you know like the story of Lazarus you know in the Bible because of that consciousness that when you're in the presence of that consciousness a death doesn't exist because there is no death uh you know you know I've said so many times

and I just talked to a girl whose mother died last week and she was just so upset about it and I was saying you know you haven't grasp the idea that she can't really die you know she was in a little baby body she was in a toddler's body. She was in a in a a teenage body. She was in a 20 and a 30 and a 40y old body. She's been in hundreds, thousand a new body every single day. And the body keeps changing and and going through the process of decay and death, which we all go through. Growth, decay, death. But who she is, her isness, whatever it is that keeps being in these other bodies, is no different now than it was when she was 12 and when she was 18 and so on.

And that part can't die. And when you get that, when you really begin to realize that, that's when these kinds of miracles that I've spoken about so often in my life, when you know the idea that when you put your we call it uh a coincidence, but you know, when we have a thought and that thought is so aligned with spirit and it's not focused on what's in it for me that the the manifestation of that thought, the physical manifestation of that thought begins to take place. Thomas Crower talked about this in the early uh part of the 1900s. You know, he said that when you begin to contemplate in the same way that God contemplates, then you gain the same powers that God has. The ability to create, the ability to manifest, the ability to heal, the ability to have things happen for you.

That's what happens as you start contemplating your life. not from the perspective of how the ego does like how much more can I get and and and I need more and I'm competing with others and so on but you begin to contemplate in terms of how may I serve how may I offer how may I you know be able to reach out and as you do that you know and I know I'm just I get so excited when I think about this topic that even the least among you as Jesus was saying that I'm no different than you is he says some somewhere in the New Testament is it not written like in the old testament that uh I have said that It is said that you are gods, that we are all gods, that we are all pieces of God. We are all fragments of God. And as we think like that, the least among us, and I think what is referred to as the least, and remember, we're talking about interpretations here. Who knows what the means, you know, that's just some

translators, you know, use of a phrase that was, you know, that was uttered thousands and thousands of years ago. I would assume that to be what you said that the feeble among us, those that will inherit the earth, you know.

So, it's just a question of us on a daily basis being able to beat back the ego and living in the mantra of how may I serve, the better we get at that day by day, then the closer the higher we raise our consciousness and then the closer we can get to actually doing what those words say.

Yeah. And becoming the observer to your life. You know it's like my teacher in India said that don't take your life so personally beginning to become the observer to your life and as you become the observer you begin to notice that these miracles really do really do occur that uh you know the things that St. Francis was able to do you know that you know birds would come and just land on his shoulder you know I've had butterflies come and just land and and talk to me when I

St. Francis is my second favorite and you're my third favorite, a close third. So, it's amazing that you bring him up in this because yeah, I mean th this topic alone just, you know, I think about it often and it just quite frankly blows my mind and I just love to hear you talk about it and I've heard you heard you talk about it several times and every time I have the pleasure of hearing you talk about it, it just motivates me to try to get to put myself in that position.

Yeah. I'm taking a group of people next year. We haven't put it out there yet, but we're going to soon to three places. We're going to do a tour through uh Hay House. One to Magoria in Bosnia where the miracles, the sighting of the Virgin Mary there to Lurards in France, the famous place where you know the the great manifestations of God took place back in the 19th century and to Aisi of St. Francis. We're going to go to all three of those in a in a in a 10day or 12 day period. Do you do you know the do you know the the time yet?

Yeah, it's going to be the end of June next year. We're we're still putting putting it all together. We're going to fly.

When will signups be for that? Soon. Soon. And it'll sell out fast because I think the maximum we can take is like 180 people or something like that. It's going to be

Okay. So, will we get the information on your website? Yeah, you'll be able to see it on the website. I'm going to be we're going to be doing it soon. Yeah.

Okay. So, just keep looking for your website. Keep looking. Yeah. Yeah. and going to Aisi and Lurards those I haven't been to Majigoria I really want to go there uh I had a I had a friend tell me some miracles that took place for him there but um Cece and and Lords I had uh just divine experiences in both of those places and I wrote a big part of a spiritual solution to every problem in Aisi St. Francis is always with me always with

Yeah I know when your when your knee broke down and you were able to carry that young man to the end of the

car Mhm. Yeah, that was John. Yeah, I just talked to him recently. Namaste, my friend.

Interesting question. We're all a peace of God. I like to think about that. And yeah, let's go uh to one more. I think this will be an interesting question. We have about 3 minutes 40.

Uh so let's go to Dan in Philadelphia. He's on line five. And welcome Dan. You're on with Dr. Dyer.

Hi. How you doing? Hi Dan. I felt somehow that you had to get on. So what's on your mind? Um, well, um, I I'm it's a it's a a sign of abundance to talk with you. I'm I'm in a state of gratitude. You've inspired me many ways in my life. Excuse me, many ways in my life. I'm a little bit nervous.

That's okay. I I have a question about the paradoxical unity um that you taught about. I I mean, I bought a copy of the audio book of Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life, and I've been listening to that. I found that that's a common theme throughout it and um I just find myself within action and inaction and things get complicated but I want to be content and simplify and I was just wondering you know briefly any thoughts that you could share with me on that boy I'll tell you it's uh you know the paradoxical unity is really the idea that um we're really at the same moment now Carl Jung put it this way see if I can remember this quote he said at the same moment that you are uh a protagonist in your own life and you're making choices. He said at the same moment you are also a spear carrier or an extra in a much larger drama. And he said all of you, all of us are doomed to make choices.

So here we are, we're making choices and yet everything is all laid out for us. We're protagonist in our own life and yet we're also the spear carrier. We're just an extra in a much larger drama. We are spiritual beings because we know that there's something going on inside of us that's invisible that uh allows us to process all the events of our life and that part of us which is uh you know I was just listening to a lecture I gave in 1990 in Colorado that someone sent to me a beautiful lady sent me this wonderful lecture that uh I had forgotten that I had given. I was talking about uh my meeting with Buckminister Fuller and Bucky uh had said to me that uh that he said always remember to me when he said always remember that 99% of you is invisible and only 1% is physical. He said keep that in mind 99% of you is spiritual and only 1% is physical. And then just as I was walking away he called me back. He

said Wayne he said uh oh and he said I just want to tell you there is no 1%. That's awesome.

Yeah. It's also inspires me something you said in the PBS special power intention. You still there?

Yeah. Okay. Um yeah, about uh keep doing what you're doing. You're on the right path. How somebody told you that one time and that's very inspiring.

So I'm just going to try to relax and let things unfold as they do. Yeah. Let them Absolutely. Absolutely. And and know that paradoxically you get more done by doing less. It's easier to by thinking small you accomplish big things. These are all paradoxes. The DAO is just filled with them and so is these conversations. We have to go and God bless all of you. I'll I'll be back in a couple of weeks. Wish me luck in uh in Australia and uh I send all of you my love. Namaste.

We're welcoming Dr. Wayne Dyer joining us in Maui. And how are you today? I'm great, thank you. How are you, Diane?

Very good. You know, I was trying some visualization over the weekend. I got a chance to talk to Dr. David Hamilton who wrote this amazing book, How the Mind Can Heal the Body earlier today and uh I was kind of fighting this cold over the weekend and I was doing the visualizations and I feel much better today. I feel great.

Good for you. Good for you. So it does work. It really does. It does. It absolutely does. I used to talk about this a lot when I was uh lecturing uh a lot more than I do now about uh cold and especially when I was in my 30s and 40s and 50s. I uh I went 20ome years without getting a cold. And I used to always you know just brazenly stand up there and talk to people about uh you know just not allowing yourself to think cold kinds of thoughts. You know don't start out in the morning saying well I got a sniffle. Uh it's in my nose tomorrow it'll be in my throat and on Wednesday it'll be in my chest and on uh you know Friday I'm going to have to take off. And it's still Monday morning and you got a little sniffle and in your mind you're taking Friday off with a fever. And I used to talk about that a lot. uh and you know getting colds is and even to this day every once in a while I'll get something like that

but I never think of it as something that that uh I didn't bring on myself and that I don't have some power to it's like everything everything in life if you just are willing to take responsibility for it in any way whatever you have whether it's a very serious illness or just a minor thing or whether your financial situation is bad or whether your relationships aren't working if you're willing to just simply say whatever it is you know as Abraham often says you don't want to say I'm being punished for it, but you want to be able to say I was a match to it. You know, in some way I matched up to this cold or I matched up to this bad economic situation or I matched up to this uh relationship issue that I'm having. And if you take that responsibility, then you've got at least a chance to do something about it or to rid yourself of it.

I agree because I was thinking before, well, everybody around me is getting sick. It's just a matter of time,

you know? So, I kind of had those thoughts going, but then flu season. Yeah. flu season. It's like there's a season for it.

Look on your calendar. Oh my god, it's time for the flu to be here. Look at that.

Yeah, you kind of wait for it, you know, for it to happen. But I think that I was able to lessen the uh the severity and you know, so if anyone out there is sniffling a little bit, you might be feeling something coming on, you know, you can

you can stave it off and and help yourself to heal. It is very a question of how you talk to yourself really and just uh if you when people would say even if when I did have a sniffle and someone would come up to me and say oh you've got a cold I'd say I'd always say no I don't get colds I don't do colds those are not things that I that I I've never acknowledged anything like that because this the minute that you do you put that label on yourself and I always quoted Kirkagard he said that once you once you label me you negate me you know now I'm just something that can get a cold or not get a cold and I and it has nothing to do with who I am and I've just always believed we have much more power over virtually everything in our lives.

Absolutely. I think Yeah. I was out there in the ocean. Uh well, let's see now it's 11:00 here, so it was maybe uh 40 minutes ago, 45 minutes ago. I did about an hour swim out there. And and the the ocean is rough today. Not rough on the surface, just um big big undulating long waves, you know, that uh pick you up and take you. And I wear these goggles. And I was out swimming and I was looking at these fish out there. There was schools, huge schools of fish out there this morning. And I was watching how they dealt with these big waves, you know, as the the waves would come in and they're huge.

They're like 10 12t faces on them and then they and then they crash into the shore. And of course, the fish are all in there. And I was just noticing that they um you know, they don't fight those waves. You know, they don't seem to be trying to go upstream. They don't seem to be trying to what they do is they and there's a line in the Dao de Ching that uh that says from Lasu he says uh let yourself be lived by it and I was thinking about how these fish know exactly how to do that how they just the whole school of fish would just go up way way up and and then they'd go back down and I was and I started emulating them while I was out there thinking there's a lesson there's there's more of a lesson than that and maybe I'll just talk for a minute about it on my radio show in another hour I guess I'm doing it about letting yourself be lived by it. And when these when the big waves come along or the storms come along or

whatever comes along, instead of fighting and getting angry and trying to make it go away and and all of that, it's like let yourself be lived by it. Let yourself be carried by the wave, you know, and just go, you know, Abraham speaks a lot about going downstream instead of upstream. You know, that I think one of the great lessons in life is in that simple little uh song, row, row, row your boat gently down the stream. Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream. And it's like row, row, row. It's just live, live, live your boat. Don't row somebody else's boat. And they row it gently. You know, just be be gentle. And always go down the stream. Don't go up the stream.

And I I think all of the creatures uh in the universe, in nature, seem to know that. They just let it glow. And you don't just have to be in the water to realize that. And I was thinking about that today is just let myself let myself be lived by this thing. know that this divine dao, this divine source, it knows exactly what it's doing. And you're a piece of it and and let yourself uh let it go. Let let it be. As the Beatles said, just just let it be.

That's so great. What a great visual and an analogy, too. It's um like recently I I mentioned to Louise, you know, she has her own rose, the Louise hay rose. And I'm I'm trying to uh start gardening and I'm kind of tinkering around with it. And I'm like, "Oh, I'm so excited. I can't wait for the rose to bloom." and you know, I want spring to be here. And she's like, "No, just wait." You know, nature knows it's all in good time. So, you know, just what you're saying,

nature knows, go with the flow. You know, don't fight it. And and my rose will bloom all, you know, I'm a little anxious for it to bloom, but

you just have to wait for the right time. And you can't and and you can never get down on the on the ground. It's like a like you plant a tomato seed, you know, and then you just wait for the shoots the shoots start coming up. You can't get down on your knees and start tug tugging at the shoots and say, "Come on, come on, come on. I want some tomatoes." You know, you just have to, you know, there's I always say my favorite line out of Doc Jackson Brown. He says, "Nature reveals its secrets by and by."

That's very true. By and by, just let it be. Let it be. And I that's but I had this wonderful image there this morning of how how I could just and and so for about 45 minutes in the ocean, I was out there and the waves and instead of even moving my arms and everything, I just let myself be taken by these big big waves and way up high and then it would take it down again. And then I' and there was this wonderful feeling of just sort of being cradled in the arms of the Dao or of God and trusting that it's going to take me exactly where I'm supposed to be. Anyway,

good lesson anyway. Yeah, it is a very very good lesson if you think of the the ocean as you know life, the economy, everything.

Yeah. The the air you breathe, everything. Yeah. It's because there's a whole world of there's a you know, the ocean is so f I learn so much from it. I'm in it every single day. I swim with these big turtles that are there seem to be a lot of them out there and the whales out here right now are just yesterday they put on a show that you couldn't even imagine. They were jumping like crazy and breaching all over the place and but being in there and you see all of this life in there and instead of air it's just all water but all these tiny little creatures, little eel fish and big beautiful purple fish and tiny little tropical fish and and they're all just flowing with it and and letting themselves be letting themselves be happy. Yeah. Let's start off with Patty and she's calling from Louisiana on line five. First call of the day. Welcome to the show, Patty. You're on with Dr.

Wayne Dyer. Thank you. I appreciate you taking the call. Hi, Patty. Where are you calling from

Hammond, Louisiana? Oh, okay. Nice to talk to you. Thank you. Um, stand. I'm calling because um I've had a 31-year marriage. We've been separated since May, and we're trying to decide whether or not to try to make things work. And um I feel like I probably manifested separation because I always said I'd rather live alone than to live in a marriage.

It's just really hard to decide. Feel like a failure if I don't go back. He's a very good person. I'm a good person, but I just don't know that. It's just hard to throw away 31 years, though.

31 years is meaningless. All you have is today. And uh every day of those 31 years that you lived uh didn't happen in the past. They all happened in the present moment. And that's all you have now is the present moment. And the idea that because you're in a marriage that uh didn't conclude uh you know with both of you dying together and that constitutes failure is just a huge uh cultural meme that has been passed on from generation to generation. We've all bought into it. This idea that um somebody out there knows how a marriage is supposed to go and uh we wrote it all down and everybody else out there now has to fit into it. It's just a silly little as I said these are called memes.

Just uh they're mind viruses. They're ideas that uh that are perpetrated uh on us and don't have to be a part of our consciousness at all. You haven't failed at anything. You've just produced a result. You have any number of choices, but all of them involve just simply how am I choosing to live my present moments? How do I want to live today? And if the way that you want to live today is in a state of separation and yet still married, then do that. I've been doing that for almost 10 years. My wife and I, we talked this morning, but we haven't been together since the year 2000. And there are some people, in fact, I talked to her this morning about it. And she was saying that her daughter-in-law, our daughter-in-law's uh family are up visiting and they don't want to come over because they don't think that it's right that uh you know that we live apart and and things like this. And and I was saying to her, what

well just be in, you know, what Maslo taught both of us, be independent of the good opinion of other people. It's not anybody else's business how you decide that you want to run your life. And you haven't failed. And the most important thing to ask yourself is what is it that is making me happy? And if being happy is being alone for a time now sometimes a separation in a mar and who's to know I don't know that my wife and I might get back together again in in a year or two or 10 or or 20 or whatever. None of us we none of us have any clue about any of that. Whatever the question love is the answer. Try to love that that spouse of yours wherever he is however he is conducting his life. Try to love yourself and love others and and the you know just like the fish out there I was talking about in the ocean just go with it. What is it that you feel is the thing that you should be doing?

Well, I bet that I have been at peace more uh in separation than than I was when we were together. And

I think anything I feel like um I really hurt him to leave him and that I I hate that.

Um well, but you know Yeah. Okay. So, he's got some emot live separately. I mean the idea that two people have to live together in the same house you know sleep in the same bedroom and sleep in the same bed and do all of these that whole idea if it doesn't bring you peace can't you still be in a state of peace with this man it live in in separately temporarily can't you do that

I think probably if I didn't have such high expectations that's the problem see the the issue that you have is really all of these expectations about how you're supposed to be just say to yourself what makes me the happiest and what makes him the happiest today and if making him happy is something that you have a capacity for doing then go ahead and do that.

So I wanted to take this call Dr. Dyer because it was really just kind of going along with what you were talking about of getting into the flow of things and not fighting life. Let's go to Barton in Las Vegas and she's just dropped off online for oh just figures. She was saying how she was getting into the flow of things. That's okay. I'll move to another call. Um let us go to

maybe she can call back. asked her to call back. Yeah, I just thought it was kind of a perfect segue of what what you were just talking about. Uh Holly in Nashville, Tennessee. We'll go to her waiting on line one.

Hi. Hi, Holly. Hi. Hi, Dr. Dyer. Hi. How are you? I'm great. How are you? How are things in Nashville?

Oh, it's snowing here like crazy. Well, it snowed over the weekend, but it's uh it was sunny today,

so some of the snow melted. We don't get a whole lot of snow here. I watched the Grammys last night and there were so many people there talking about Nashville, including Taylor Swift who

Yeah, Taylor Swift. She's kind of up and coming here in Nashville. She's my goodness, she's big star and she's 20 years old. She's like such a little girl up there. It was so wonderful to see cuz I I have a daughter that age 20 and she was talking just like her. Oh, I'm so excited. Oh my my my mother must be so happy. Oh, my brother's probably freaking out. I thought it was just great.

That's funny. She writes her own songs, too which I know she does. Yeah, she's enormously talented and Nashville is a great great city. My go my daughter goes up there a lot. My daughter Sky who has her own music out. She has a

she play out here in Nashville. Yeah. Well, she she records there. Uh she has a CD, You Inspire Me. Um and um and so on. Anyway, uh I love Nashville. It's a great city.

It is a nice city. I like it here a lot. Although Hawaii doesn't sound bad either.

Hawaii is a lot better. I want to tell you that right now, just in case you want to know.

Yeah. Swimming in the ocean. All these subscriptions sound really fun. Yeah. Um well, first of all, I just want to express some gratitude to you and to Hay House that you make yourself available to us. I just think that's so wonderful and just such a gift that anybody can call you up on a Monday afternoon or whatever time.

Um so, thank you very much. You're very welcome. Hey, Hay House, they do a lot of that even with their seminars and they're always thinking of new ways to uh reach out to people. It's a wonderful, wonderful company and Louise is one of my very, very favorite people.

It is wonderful. I tell all my friends about it. Good. Um, so I am the reason for my call. I'm in a situation um that I'll explain briefly, but it's kind of given rise to a bigger question that I think maybe more people can relate to and maybe especially women. I'm going through a divorce and thankfully it's very peaceful and amiable and I think we'll remain friends. Long story short, he kept the house and is giving me half of the equity in the house, but he owes me about $3,700 more than he's agreed to pay me. And he doesn't want to pay it.

And um and he's giving me all kinds of excuses why. And I'm in a quandry about it because what the bigger question is, cuz it's really not even about the money. I feel like I'm trying to find balance between having self-respect and self-honoring and you know as women in the spiritual community we're reading all these books about empowerment a lot of them by hey house authors stepping into your power stop wearing your people pleaser mask and

I kind of feel like you know I'm a nice person and so it's like having self-respect and self honoring and then what more in line with what you teach and what other spiritual leaders are teaching about letting stuff go, letting it go and um what you've said a lot lately, which I love, is being like the sun that shines on the earth and asks for nothing in return. And

right, but I feel like I don't know like if I made the decision today to let it go that there's a part of myself that feels like I'm not honoring myself and I'm just wondering if you can help me kind of reconcile my feelings.

Absolutely. I can. Yeah. Um because you already said it's not about the money. So um it's really not about the money. What does he owe you $3,700 for in the first place? Just real briefly.

We briefly we miscalculated the equity. I don't know how we did it, but we miscalculated it and it's actually $3,700 more. He's already giving me 5,700.

Um and it's not like I need the money. I don't need the money to pay my rent or

All right. So does he know about the $3,700 discrepancy? Is is he aware of that? And you've made him aware of it.

Oh, yes. Yeah. And he's giving me a lot of excuses why he doesn't want to pay it.

So, this is what I do with that. And I and I I've had a lot of money issues around uh because I've made a lot of money and you know people have borrowed money and people owe this and and and breakups and uh and let's you know find a and what I've always told my kids is um send your husband a a note with a book or something in a flower and uh and just say something to him like um we both discussed the the discrepancy. I'm just asking you to do the right thing. I love you and just sign your name.

Do the right thing. It's always about doing the right thing. So, you're doing the right thing when by doing that you're letting go.

You're not attached. You're not uh you're not you're not anybody's victim. Uh and besides getting into a fight with somebody that you're divorcing uh is probably the worst. Do you have children?

No. Thank goodness. No. Yeah. So, but but but this is still somebody who's going to be a part of your life and has been a part of your life and always will be a part of your life and someone that you were married to and lived with and have a home with and so on. The last thing you want to do is put yourself into a place where you're fighting over something that you've already admitted isn't even that important. Uh just in the name of winning and just in the name of being right. You give him the option, which is what I've always told my children. You know the right thing to do. I'm asking you to do the right thing, you know, and I'm letting go and I'm sending you love.

And then you're free. You're completely free. And it's totally in his court. And uh he may pay it back. He may not. He may wait 5 years. he may be ready, you know, down the road to to do things like that. I can tell you for myself when I was a young boy, I did some shoplifting. I worked in a grocery store and I I used to smoke cigarett and I used to take and I stole cigarettes. I mean, and I just can't even, you know, imagine that I did that today because I wouldn't if somebody gives me a penny too much, I would go out of my way and spend $100 to make sure that they got it back. But I did that when I was a young man. And it took me until I was in my 40s to pay it back to take care of that to have that recognition. So like creation reveals its secrets by and by so does it re reveal u what it is the right thing for us to do.

And I would just simply let it go and I would send him love and I would surround him with love and just you know ask him to do what he thinks is the right thing to do.

Okay. How does that feel? It feels good. Um I we're in the middle of completing the marriage divorce dissolusion paperwork.

So I think I'll just take what you said and proceed as things are and then ask them for the additional money or I mean just ask them to do the right thing.

Yeah. Just continue through with the paperwork that I have already. Yeah. Just simply say we've already discussed all of the details of this and and I'm just asking you to do the right thing and I just want to know I'm sending you love as we end this marriage. And uh and and you're totally free. Yeah. Because the the whole idea of fighting over anything is just all it does. And $3,700. I can promise you this is the 1st of February. By the 1st of April, you will double that when you go that route. You will find $7,500 showing up in your life in some unexpected way.

I'm telling you right now, I can absolutely promise you it's going to happen. Oh, good. Maybe I'll get to come to Maui then.

Yeah. Yeah. Why don't you know what the thing to do is to sign up for that as soon as it's available and don't even ask yourself how you're going to pay for it. Just sign up. Just say, "I'm going to be here. I'm going to be here for those that in I'm going to come for a week and uh uh and then just watch and just watch and just notice how the uh the funding and the availability for it happens."

Well, that's like a really free $7,500 coming your way by April the 1st. My prediction.

Wayne, I love it. Okay. Thanks for your beautiful call. God bless you. Namaste. You too. Thank you.

And we have time to maybe get another call or two. So, let's go to Eric. And he's calling from Minnesota online, too. Welcome to the show, Eric.

Well, thank you so much. Hello, Dr. Dyer. Hi. What are you doing in Minnesota in February? It's cold.

I'm freezing my butt off. It's not too bad today. It's about 15. 15? Yeah. Not too bad.

Now, there's a positive attitude. There you I'm sitting here in my bathing suit looking out at the ocean and you're telling me it's not too bad. It's It's warmed up to 15.

There you go. I've been here all maybe. It's all relative. Where in Minnesota are you?

I'm in Minneapolis. Oh, my daughter lives there. My daughter Tracy. She does. Yes. Um Yeah, I'm familiar. I um went to your Wishes Fulfilled cinema. Oh, did you last Thursday? Loved it.

Oh, good. What? Yeah. How many people were How many people were in the theater?

You know, there was a there was a really really nice crowd. Uh I would 75, I would say.

Oh, that's wonderful. That's great. Thank you for telling me that. I really appreciate it. I tried to get Tracy to go to that because I I gave her all these plugs in the show for her her u her bag business, the urban junket.com.

You did. What's on your Yeah. What's on your mind, my friend? I'll tell you. Well, you know, I just have to say you've been with me my entire life, all of my 44 year, well, not quite all my 44 years. For some reason, I had bought a copy of Euronia Zones when I was in fifth or sixth grade.

Mhm. And had it I don't know if I read it cover to cover at the time, but I had it in my life. And I've certainly been um a follower and a reader of yours. And I'll tell you what's going on right now. I seem to suffer from a big case of indecisiveness in my life and I feel like I've got a lot of things that I really love to do and I always get it in my head that to really make my mark in the world and to put myself out there I need to focus on one just one and then I'll I'll say oh okay I'll start working on something and then I'll go what if this isn't the thing that Eric meant

to do in this world and then I'll abandon it and try something else and I go, "Oh, I should have done that other thing. I should have focused on my painting or my pottery or my writing or my theater or something of that nature." And I think it's really holding me back from

Absolutely. It is. Yeah. Let me ask you this. You did you hear the whole show? Did you hear me talking about when I was out in the ocean this morning and uh the fish and all of that? Were you listening then?

Yes, I did. So, so you so you can picture like this the all of these different fish floating around out there and and being moved around by these big waves and so on. Do you think that any one of those fish is capable of thinking that they're doing the wrong thing? That they should be uh nibbling over at at this coral instead of that piece of coral or they should have gone right instead of left or they should have, you know, they should have gone up instead of down. Can you imagine any creature other than human beings using their mind that way?

No, not at all. Yeah. And you know, you're part of nature, too. So, like all of these inclinations for you to, you know, you try something, it doesn't work. You try something else, it doesn't uh then and then something else grabs your attention and it's like I'm reading a a novel right now. It's called Pillars of the Earth by Ken Flet, which I recommend to everyone. It's about the Middle Ages.

Yeah. Just astonishingly good book. And I don't ever hardly ever take time to read a thousandpage novel. But I decided to do that before I start writing my own book uh next month or so. I'd like to read a really great writing. So I decided to to write this now. Now I it's taken me oh two and a half weeks or so of almost full time just to read this book. It's very timeconuming. But never once do I ever say to myself, I shouldn't be doing this. I shouldn't be taking time to read a novel when you got a book of your own to write and you could be out there and you could be making money over here and you and what about this and then your kids are coming and what about I don't do that. I never did that in my life, Eric. I just allowed I just said this is what I'm doing and this is where I am today and if I've got six different books that I'm reading or different projects going. I say to myself, this is God talking to

me. It's allowing me to experiment over here to try this to check this out. And instead of being so hard on myself and telling myself I shouldn't be doing that, give yourself permission to say this is just part of my experimentation because the purpose of life isn't to make your mark. Those were your words. You don't have a mark to make. The purpose of life is to enjoy it. You know, just that every creature on the planet knows that except us. And we get all mixed up. We have a dharma like that fish that I'm talking about has a dharma like the mosquito, like the rose, like everything has a dharma. and just allow yourself to be carried by it and flow with it and stop being so hard on yourself. And you might have 20 different things going at one time, which I've had a big part of my life.

I'm often writing a book and reading a book and got, you know, and and thinking about a speech and uh dealing with this relationship over here and dealing with that financial matter over there and all of it. I just say this is just who I am and this is, you know, I let myself be carried by the great Dao. Stop being so hard on yourself. You don't have a mark to make. You've already made your mark. You're 44 years old. You're a beautiful man. And you know, you're only the only thing you have to do is enjoy every day that you have. Okay.

I love it. Thank you so much. Okay. Thanks, Eric. God bless you, my friend. Namaste.

And we have time to get more calls. We have people jamming the phone lines to talk to you today. Dr.

Let me just give I just want to give this one observation. It's just some uh that Dale Carnegie once said that man is not made to understand life but to live it. And Helen Keller had this wonderful observation. I've had it on my desk for a long time. time I wanted to say it on the radio show. She said, "Now, Helen Keller was blind and deaf and uh you know, she couldn't speak and she had endless uh sort of physical incapacities." She said, "I trust and nothing that happens disturbs my trust. I recognize the beneficence of the power which we all worship as supreme, order, fate, the great spirit, nature, God. I recognize this power in the sun that makes all things grow and keeps life afoot. I make a friend of this indefinable force and straight away I feel glad, brave and ready for any lot heaven may decree for me. This is my religion. I just love that.

Wow. That's so perfect for today, too, with the theme of the calls that uh uh that people have. It seems like something that that people are struggling with.

Yeah. Because I've often said, you know, you've heard it said a million times, the kingdom of heaven, the kingdom of heaven is within. You've heard that many times, right? The kingdom of heaven is within. But you know what? The kingdom of hell is within too.

Uh, and you know, if your life has got some kind of hell involved in it, it's uh that's something that comes from inside you as well. So anyway, let's go. Let's uh wrap up today. See, get a couple more calls in.

Okay, let's go to uh Jamie in Eugene, Oregon on line six and we'll get her up here. Welcome to the show, Jamie.

Hi. Hi, Jamie. Hi. How are you? I'm great. How are you today? Doing well. A little cold, but good nonetheless.

It's cold. Oh, yeah. It's a bit chilly here in Eugene. It's rainy as normal, but not so bad.

See, you guys are all Everybody calling. You're all in the wrong place. Maui, it's like it's about 82 degrees. It's perfect sunny breeze and we can all go out for a swim. Come on over.

I would love to someday soon. I'll see you in October. What's on your mind? Perfect. Well, gosh, I I quickly spit out a question when they asked me what I was going to call about, and my first reaction was ah, weight and eating disorders, but now that I'm listening to everybody else calling, my I guess my soul is really wanting to have a question about true purpose. And I know you just said it, purpose of life is to enjoy it. And I love life. I'm very happy with everything. Well, I guess I shouldn't say that because then there's a butt coming. I'm happy in in every aspect of my life. One thing that I have issues with is working. I don't I'm a teacher, but that's not really making me happy. Right now, I stay at home and I I I volunteer at my kids' schools and that that makes me tremendously happy, but my husband's also a teacher and we, you know, live in Eugene and have one income. So, we're

kind of trying to figure out ways to maybe make it a little bit better with income and teaching is, you know, is not very lucrative as you know.

But, um, I don't I just don't feel that that's it doesn't really make me happy. It makes me very anxiet anxietic and kind of stressed and I don't feel like I'm a very happy person to be around when I'm doing that. So,

I guess my question is, how does one find their true purpose? If I'm already a happy person, what else could I do career-wise? It's a good question. I mean, it's a question that, you know, it's endlessly asked and and there's only to me there's never been but one answer to that question and uh you know, you find I have a new book coming out March the 1st, in fact. Um it's called The Shift: Taking Your Life from Ambition to Meaning. It's really a companion book sort of to the movie, but it's not at all. It's got four chapters in it. The first chapter is called from.

The second chapter is called ambition, which is the ego. The third is two is when you make the U-turn and the final chapter is meaning. It's like and what you're asking and and that this book hopefully will give you some very good answers to that is what how do I find meaning? How do I find how do I find purpose in my life and the answer to that is always in thinking like God thinks you know the more aligned you are with the source that is uh the source of all things uh whether you call it God or spirit or whatever even what Helen Keller was speaking about in that quote I just gave. uh you know the God how does God think how does the universal source that allows all life to be how does it think it it's always giving it's just offering it's just serving it never says what's in it for me it never says what can I get it never asks the question you know how much more can I have

there was a great uh a former slave who became a phil philosopher his name was Epictatus and he said he is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not but rejoices for those which he has and it's really you will find your purpose and any time that you are in a state of ridding yourself of your ego, taming that ego part of you which we call the false self. You know the part of us that says who I am is what I do. And I you know I I take issue with something you said that not issue in a in an angry way. I take issue with the when you said as you know teaching is not a very lucrative profession. You're listening to a teacher. I was a school teacher. I taught in elementary school.

I taught in high school. I taught at universities. And even today, I mean, I just teach on a bigger stage. And it's been exceedingly lucrative for me. I mean, to the point where I can give millions of dollars away to uh institutions to helping out people in Haiti to doing all of these kinds of things. So that because I just never thought like what you say. I just I think you will find your purpose. Uh is it Jamie?

Yes. Yeah. I think you will find your purpose, Jamie. And just whatever it is, you said that teaching doesn't causes you to be anxious. What is it about teaching that that could be anxietyprovoking? I just loved teaching.

I liked it too. I really like the relationship with which is my favorite part. And I think I like being in the schools, but being on stage for me is and commanding attention is kind of hard for me. I don't I like to get develop a rapport with students in a quiet, calm, kind way. I'm not authoritative. So that I think automatically and I taught high school that it's just intimidating to me.

What was what? What? Yeah. Well, that's that's important. What did you teach? Spanish.

Subject. Spanish. H. Yeah. It's very interesting. Put your name on something called Craigslist or something like that. Offer yourself out as a onetoone tutor. There are people in Oregon near you who want to learn what you have to offer and would love to be there on a onetoone basis.

That's funny. I just did that recently and I loved it. Did you? I did. I had my first time and it was great because it was individual and I didn't have to demand attention.

Yeah, I loved it. But the idea that you're not authoritative doesn't ring for me true at all. You sound very authoritative. You sound very wise. You sound like you, you know, like a a very intelligent woman who framed your question in a brilliant way. You know, I have a friend who has a daughter who needs tutoring in Spanish and is willing to pay to have somebody to come to her house and uh you know, or to go to their house and get that help that she needs. There are people out there that like that. So, there you are. I mean, you have a perfect opportunity. I would take out ads. I would go to the schools and find out who are the kids that are uh really having difficulty in mastering this language and maybe even write a guide for how to learn a language. I think that's something that's really needed.

how to learn a foreign language and you must know how to do that since you're bilingual. Um

I do. Yeah, why not do that? Why not make that available? Like a a little cheat sheet on how to how to master a language. Um

anyway, you got lots of lots of options there. Good ideas. I'll take those. My mom and I absolutely love you.

I love you, too. God bless you. Have a great day. Thanks. See, I knew you'd be good to answer that particular question because you have a way of zeroing in

and uh you were able to kind of dig into what she really did love, which she wasn't hating teaching just in that in that situation.

And tutoring, I mean, God, this it's so needed, especially now because schools are cutting back so much. Uh you know, the number of days they go to school and all of that, we're just we're cheating our kids all over this country with our education system. Um, and we need people who can reach them on a onetoone basis.

Absolutely. Well, we found the person in the flow earlier from Vegas. Oh, good.

And she's back. Let's get her back online. Yeah. Let's go to uh Barton. And it just kind of fit in with what you were talking about today. Welcome to

I got disconnected. Hi, Barton. How are you? I'm wonderful. I'm doing wonderful. Oh my gosh. It's so true. I found the shift. I mean, I got into the flow and I'm in the flow now. And it's, oh my gosh, I had no idea you could feel this way. I had, you know, it's amazing. I mean, I I had a really hard hard year last year and I went through a lot of, you know, horrible things and um,

oh my gosh, I am so happy and so content and so it's amazing. It's just knowing that. Go ahead.

It's just No, you can have it. It's just I'm still like getting used to it right now because it's like it's so I mean my whole body is happy. It's like I have no stress in my stomach anymore. I have no I can breathe. My my lungs are free. I can't stop smiling. That's another thing.

That's so wonderful. What are you smoking? I mean, what what I'm completely sober. That's the whole thing. that even so I know I was just teasing what uh what is what what what was the shift what took place tell tell us

oh basically I just I've been trying you know been doing positive thinking positive thinking and you know last year was a financial mess for me I'm an art muralist

and um it was really really horrible for us last year and we were just very little money and I was really stressed out and I just had all these problems and everything started compressing down right on top of me and I kind of suffered a little bit of a nervous breakdown and I, you know, several like multiple nervous breakdowns

and then all of a sudden release. It's like something just took away everything. I mean, I don't how know how to explain it, but it's really real. I mean, it's really real to be in the flow and feeling happy and secure. And I just want to thank you, Wayne, because you're amazing. And I just wanted to put in a positive thing and tell the callers out there that yes, it's real and it does happen to people. You just have to be positive. You just think positive thoughts. And

it's I think more it's also do you sense that it's uh Barton that it's uh that has something to do with being in a state of gratitude?

Um yes rather than in a state gratitude extreme wonderful so grateful for everything that I have right now.

Yeah that's for me that's what it is because and gratitude is something that you can you really practice a lot. I mean uh you can practice gratitude for the sun, for the moon, for the flowers, for the uh you know, for the air you're breathing, for the people, you know, in your life, for I mean, for endless kinds of things. As that that quote I I gave earlier from Epict Titus, he is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not,

but rejoices for those which he has. To be in a state of just rejoicing for what you have. I used to give when I would lecturing more I would talk about you know think about things that you never think about that um you know like think about your liver or think about your eye or think about your arm or your spleen or your heart these things that without you know if you didn't have them if they decided if your liver decides to stop functioning for you know in 10 minutes you're going to be dead. So here's this thing that's inside of you. This this heart that just keeps beating and beating.

And we just sort of take it for granted. Oh yeah, that's my heart. But I mean it's you go into a state of just being in such a state of gratitude. My god, there's this this thing inside of me that just beats every single day. And without it, I couldn't even breathe. Anyway, we've got to go off the air. I'm hearing of telling you just got a few seconds. God bless you, beautiful. And you're smiling big. Keep smiling. I love you all.

What a great way to wrap things up. Yeah, she was terrific. Mhm. How are you this morning?

I'm great. Good. I know. Couldn't be better. I love this show. I love talking to all the people from all over the world. This is one of my favorite hours of the week. Truly, it is. I I look forward to it every week when I can't do it and I'm traveling and they play a a replay. I I always feel a little bad. I I really enjoy it.

The big news this week, of course, is that our government, which operates on a half a trillion dollar deficit every year.

Yeah. And if any of us are out there who ran our business the way our federal government runs their business, we would all be put in jail. But they have decided that they are going to rescue all of the people who have made bad loans. So there's an awful lot of financial talk right now. I mean, all the talk shows, Meet the Press and and all the news stations and all of this are talking about uh this this huge casino that we have out there called the stock market and how this is all going to be propped up. And there's a lot of negativity, a lot of worry. And I want to just say to all of you, turn it off.

Don't allow yourself to be consumed by this fear and this worry and this anxiety and this uh anger and and all of the kinds of things that uh that uh you know come up when there are financial crises out there. Go within know that you don't need another penny. You don't need anything in order to live a fulfilled happy life. You know to believe that you need what you don't have uh is a definition of insanity according to my friend Byron Katy. So um for each and every one of you as this goes as whatever it is that they do to prop it up or to resolve it or to borrow more money or to go more into debt. Go within in your own heart and don't uh don't allow yourself to be brought down by the negativity and the fear and the worry. There's only two emotions in this world. There's fear and love. Love yourself. Have love for God. have love for the a knowing that uh whatever it is that's coming your way, you have within

you the capacity and the power to weather it. Not only to weather it, but to make it work for you and to turn it around. And if enough of us if enough of us begin to act and believe and live this way, then these kinds of things will become uh something that no longer are part of our consciousness. So live peacefully even when uh there's tumultuous things going on all around you, go within. Go to that private inner place. Yeah.

And know that you have the power to weather whatever is coming your way. Mhm. Okay.

Well, thank you for that. That's my message for everyone out there. Don't listen to uh all of the fear that's coming at you.

Yeah, understood. Well, thank you, Dr. Would you like to to go to our callers then this morning?

I would love that. Either that or we can do an hour of silence because silence is

I think we should definitely go to our callers. Okay, let's do that. Um, we have a wonderful young caller on the line, line one, calling from Jacksonville, Florida. thanks for calling us today. You're speaking live with Dr. Wayne Dyer.

Hello. Um, as you know, you've already said, I'm young. I'm only of the age of 11 and I listen to Hay House a lot. My question is, I'm still in school and I'm kind of having trouble staying calm on test and I know that you can maybe tell me of a way that can help me just find just to calm down.

I got a lot of advice for you, my friend. is that your name? Is it? Yes. Say it. It's um the reason that there's I say that the reason that most people get it wrong is because it's not American.

What is it? It's it's African from a tribe called Ebo. Oh, great. What country?

I'm not sure. Is it Nigeria? I Yeah, I believe it is. I think it is. It sounds like that. Well, listen, Here's what I would tell you about this. You don't ever measure your ability to do something on the basis of a test. Tests only measure how well you take tests. That's the only thing that tests do. They just measure how good you are at taking the test. But what it is that you would like to be able to create, to do, to perform, whoever you are, your intelligence, your abilities have nothing to do with what's on that test score. As soon as you realize this that this is not a reflection of you, but rather it is just another little skill that you have to learn. How to calm yourself down, how to get good at taking tests, and and also how to take tests in a language that isn't even probably your very first language. You can get yourself to a very peaceful place once you realize that this is just another skill that you're

learning. It's no different than learning how to how to hit a forehand in tennis or how to uh you know high jump over a bar or how to learn to play a musical instrument or anything else. It's just called test taking. And if you don't take it so serious and don't make it that important and just allow yourself to be at peace and say to yourself that whatever it is that I do on this test, all it will do is indicate to me how good I am at taking tests. But it doesn't have anything to do with who I am, what I can become, how smart I am, what my abilities are. I've never been a very good test taker myself because every time one of those tests comes up, I used to put myself through all of that. And sometimes those tests uh punish people who know the most because if you get like two choices to make a decision on a multiplechoice question, for example, lots of times uh both either you if you know a lot, either

answer makes sense. and uh and you find yourself trying to figure out what they want from you, just let go. Just relax. Just understand that your intelligence is uh is something that comes from God and no one can take that away from you regardless of what kind of test they put on. Once you do that and you don't take it all so seriously, you're going to be fine. Okay?

Thank you. Does that help? Yes. Okay, my friend. Thank you for calling in. God bless you.

Thanks, Go, too. And I hope he knows of course you were a school teacher once yourself. So your advice is particularly um

not only was I a school teacher but you know what the very first class I ever taught at a university when I left Michigan after I got my doctorate I went to St. John's University in New York and I taught in summer school there I think it was 1971 and they gave me the class I had to teach for this was for school counselors was called tests and measurement. So, um, so I got all of the students in there and the third week I said that that we're going to have a test for all of you and, uh, it will represent 75% of your grade. And this is a very important test and if you don't pass this test, you probably the likelihood is that you're not going to pass the class. And if you don't pass the class, you're not going to be able to get your master's degree. And I really put an enormous amount of pressure on all of these. They were all school teachers, but I really lived it. I said and I had them so

nervous and so talking about how important this was and so on and then when it came the date came to take the test I I said oh there is no test I was but I said I want you to each of you write to me what it is that you were going through you know with all of the kind of pressure that was being put on every one of them knowing that their grade depended upon them passing you know all of this test and measurement kind of stuff and I think it really taught there were 30 students in that class I think it taught them that uh that young people when you put an enormous amount of pressure on them for passing a test or doing well on a test that what you're doing is you're setting them up to fail rather than just seeing tests and measurement is just one more aid in what can you know can assist you.

So, all of you out there who have had an IQ test and been told that it's uh my other very favorite story about IQ tests was um years ago I wrote a book called uh your erroneous zones and the people at the Iowa tests of basic skills wrote me a letter and they wanted to use one of the paragraphs in erroneous zones for the reading part of their test and they asked they needed my permission. So, I gave them permission and I said but when it's over I said send me the test. So about two years went by and I didn't think any more about it and one day in the mail this Federal Express package came and it was this intelligence test that they were giving for students and I went through and I said and I I'll take it. So I was taking the test and I came to the question out of erroneous zones and I read it and I put the answer down.

I had four choices and um and then I went and graded the test and I found out that uh I didn't get the the questions the four questions that were asked about the the passage. I got one of them wrong and I couldn't figure out how could I get something wrong in something that I wrote and I look back in the teachers manual part of it and the question that I got wrong was what was the intent of the author. So here I was the author and I put down C instead of B and I know what my intent was and because they figured out that this was not the intent I got punished or penalized for not knowing the intent of the author when I was the author on an intelligence test. So that tells you how much confidence I have in intelligent tests and numbers and things like that. Don't allow yourself to get into that kind of a situation. Okay, let's take another call.

Sure. I have a feeling you really stirred up a lot of um people when you were a professor.

Oh, I was. Oh, believe me. Okay. I had that class terrified though. And I'll tell you what, I don't think any of them would ever put that kind of pressure on young people, which is something I don't believe in. I think when you're taking a a test at school that you should be allowed all the time that you need if it takes you 3 hours to take it cuz there's no reason why everybody should have to take tests at the same you know at the same speed you know that's true

and then be told that they're not as intelligent because they weren't as fast as the other people anyway that's a whole another area.

Okay. Okay. Well let's see um let's see what's going on with some other of our callers today. I'd like now to speak with Jessica. She's on line five from Huntington Beach, California. Jessica, welcome. You're live with Dr. Wayne Dyer.

Hi. Thank you for taking my call. Hi, Jessica. How are you? I'm great. How are you this morning?

Pretty good. Good. Um, I just wanted to ask quickly um your advice or guidance on resentments. Um, like just learning to let go and just accept.

Tell me more. Well, uh, my dad kind of just took off on us one day out of the blue and just left. Didn't, you know, just let him out. didn't talk to us, didn't let us know. And currently I have an a boyfriend who um has an addiction and he's doing really great in it, but it's still the resentment of I also have to work on accepting, you know, those things that have happened.

It's very interesting you asked that, Jessica. How long ago did your father leave?

Um it's been about 5 years. And how old are you? I'm 27. So you were 22. Did you have other siblings that were younger?

Yes, two younger brother and a sister. And how do they feel about it? Um, my sister is that wants absolutely nothing to do with him. And

I just recently saw him last week when my grandmother passed away for the first time. So, it's kind of been, you know, on my mind a lot recently. So,

just kind of confused. And how was it when you saw him? Well, I've been reading a lot of your books and, you know, listening to you a lot. So, it was a lot better this time seeing him and knowing that that's just his deal. That's how he is. It really has nothing to do with us. But

I mean, it was Why do Why do you think he left? Just unhappiness. And I think he was just kind of there because he felt he had to. He had the kids, you know,

all of that, which, you know, I I'm all for. If you weren't happy, go ahead and go. But at least sit us down and talk to us and let us know you're going to leave. And

don't just But that's, you know, Nichi said, "This is my way." Mhm. What is your way?

Mhm. the way doesn't exist, right? There is never if if someone is in that state of desperation inside where they have to walk away and leave their family and not look back, there must be something going on inside that's uh very very very deeply troubling. Very deeply troubling.

You know, I was at an AA meeting many many years ago. And uh on the wall of that meeting, on the back of the wall, they have a saying, and I've never forgotten it. It said uh there are no justifiable resentments.

M there are no justifiable resentments because all of your resentment is internal anger and all of that anger is uh is really what is causing you to be unhappy. It isn't what your father did that makes you unhappy. And you got to get that and so do your siblings. But I'm talking to you now.

It isn't what he did. It's like a snake bite. If a snake comes along and bites you, you're not going to die from a snake bite. What you die from is the poison that continues to circulate after the bite.

Exactly. That's called resentment. That's the resentment. And that's something that you have a voice in. You have a choice in. I would send this man love. I would try to be as kind and good to him as I possibly could. I would practice forgiveness. I would do a muscle test on myself and see how differently you feel when you're angry versus how differently you feel when you forgive. And when you let it go, you're going to be stronger. I promise. We got to go. We're going to a break.

Okay. Thank you, my dear. Much love to you. God bless you. I think we have many callers as always waiting to speak with you.

I'd love now to invite Bethany on. She's calling on Line 8 from Denver, Colorado. Bethany, welcome to the show today.

Bethany, are you with us? Oh my goodness. Oh, there she is. There she is. Hi. Hi. Sorry. Thank you so much for having me on.

You're very welcome. We almost didn't. You almost got lost. Yes, almost. So, I'm kind of nervous, so I'll try to be as clear as possible. So, I work as an ESL teacher teaching English to adults as well as life skill for for them coming into the United States. Um, I recently lost my job as at one of the institutions that I work for. Um, downsizing as well as just didn't work out. But I'm I'm feeling okay about that as long as I don't get too concerned with money. And so I guess I need some inspiration on how to stay focused and positive while I search for other jobs and a little bit of direction because I don't think I should be a teacher in that capacity anymore.

If you just had your brothers and you could just have any job that you want, what would it be?

Working to support nonprofits and and things like that. working to support people as they make their dreams come true.

Can you get more specific about it? Um, um, I love working with nonprofits. I really enjoy watching people succeed. It's a social services type thing. Not that I want a a community or a social case worker, but

but supporting people, making the communities stronger. Yeah. The way I handle uh situations like that in my life and I've encouraged others as well is to get a really sharp clear vision and I mean a clearer vision than you have right now Bethany of uh what it is that you would like to see yourself doing and then to um you know go to a place within yourself in a quiet place in a meditation and to make conscious contact with God. And that's the beauty of meditation. And that's the beauty of of getting in the gap in the space between your thoughts is um that you begin to have answers. And instead of asking for something for you, put your all of your energy and your attention as you're doing this in this visualization, put it on um seeing yourself in the capacity of serving, of offering, of creating because it's only then that the doors open. It's like as long as you, you know, Lu said in the

daqing that as long as you, you know, you have an attachment to this world of uh conflict and this world of the physical and and wanting things for yourself, as long as you have attachments like that, the doors don't open. the the what he called the angelic guides. This the source energy that will come and provide for and help for you is never going to be allowed uh into your life until you take the focus off of what's in it for me, how much am I going to make, what kind of a job am I going to get and on to how may I serve? What may how can I do this? And then try to get as specific as you possibly can about doing that. And when you see yourself, when you can actually get that inner vision of yourself doing, then you just um you for me I it's been a a state of just allowing it to come to me. I've never chased after things. It's like um I I shouldn't say I never have. I don't any longer. I did at one time in my

life. And I found that the more I chased, the more I tried to grasp, the more I tried to make it happen, um the more it would elude me. But uh when I would just let go and have a real clear vision of seeing myself serving in some capacity that whatever it was that I needed would just show up. I don't know if that's helpful to you or not but uh getting that inner picture for yourself is uh and and getting it to you know being more at peace with it is um you know because so much of our energy is around uh shortages and lacks and I don't have enough and I'm not going to make enough. It's all about me me. When your focus is off of that and on to serving and offering and allowing and and creating, the phone will ring.

Something will show up in the mail. Somebody will call you and uh you know or see you and say, "You know what? You you'd be the perfect person for this place." I would probably suggest that it may have already even happened to you. Have you had offers like that or or people coming up to you and saying, "We'd like to have you here or there?"

Usually, it would be a friend suggesting that I apply someplace. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I've never actually no no no no no no job that I've applied for has ever been difficult if the ones that I have gotten as usually I walk in and I

and I just say hello and I get the job. Yeah. And that's how source works. That's how spirit works. I think when somebody comes up to you and says why don't you apply here or when and you think well that was just a coincidence or I was looking for a job or whatever. But that isn't that's the way the universe works. I think that's how God works within us. When we're at peace, when we're letting go and we're not trying, you know, in the Dao, it says, "Let yourself be lived by it." Instead of you living it and trying to do it and and conquer it and be in charge of it, let yourself be lived by it. Relax. Let go. Go within.

And just know that whatever it is that you need to be doing at this moment, it's all in divine timing. It's all perfect. There's nothing that's not going to work out for you. I don't know. That's always worked for me my entire life. I've never had a shortage of jobs. I've always had more offers than I could handle.

Right. I think I just needed to hear someone outside of my head say that. So, yeah. Cuz you already know it, don't you?

Yes, I do. Because you were teaching you're teaching English as a second language to people. And uh and and you know you're good at that. What is the second language that you teach?

Oh, no. I teach English. And usually I teach to to people from all over the world.

Oh, I see. It's from all over. So it wouldn't be just people speak Spanish that you're going to teach how to speak English and so on. It was it's a

it just teaching English to anybody who's who's learning it for the first time.

Exactly. It's a wonderful skill, by the way. It's really very very needed skill, I think, in the world. But if it's if it's something that you feel right now that it's not that you've you've done enough of that,

that's enough of a reason. How old are you? Um I'm 25. Mhm. You sound like you know exactly what you're going to do next. I think you already know. I think it's on its way. and I thank you very much for for saying that.

Okay, I'll see you soon. God bless you. God bless you. Bye. Thanks for your call, Bethany.

That sounds like the advice, you know, you could give anybody right now who is sitting here listening without a job, in between jobs, going through that anxiety.

Yeah. Letting go peace. Job hunting has never been a difficulty thing for me at some and so I'm not always a good person to talk to about it except that it's uh I've always just had a knowing that whatever it is that I find interesting or exciting or passionate or moving or motivating or whatever whatever that I know within me that there's a way to make a living at that it isn't just something that I find of interest. It doesn't make any difference what it is. It's like I tell my son Sans who's uh going to be 21 on October the 9th and he just got back from a trip to Indonesia doing surfing and he's in school, he's in college, he's up at the University of Central Florida and he's doing fine and uh you know but uh his whole life, his whole passion, everything about his life is this surfing thing. I mean he just gets up in the morning and he checks where the waves are all over the world and I mean you know when you watch him

on a surfboard I mean his whole it's totally his passion and I've told him so many times you don't have to go to business school. Well, you don't have to go to college if if that's not especially now at the age of 20 if that's not what you want to be. You know, that feeling that you have of being on a surfboard and riding that wave and and uh and and you know, being at one with the ocean, all the excitement, the energy. I mean, he talks endlessly about it. It's just I mean, it's his whole life. I said, there's a way to make a living at that. you know, just start begin to imagine yourself as being able to do this and still whether I'm teaching other people about it, whether I work in a surf shop, whether I start my own surf shop, whether I to do surf lessons, uh, you know, on a beach, whether I make surfboards, whether I study oceanography, whatever it might be, whether I get on one of these boats

and learn how to um, you know, be a captain on a boat that takes surfers around, there's endless numbers of ways to, you know, when you see surfboards and you see people out there surfing, somebody has to make the boards and somebody has to teach them And I said, it's like, you know, follow your passion. Follow your bliss. Know within this is what excites me. This is the thing that turns me on. And if it is, and it doesn't matter what age you are or how long you've been doing what you've been doing. I mean, I have men in their 40s and 50s say to me that, "Well, I can't change professions now. I've been doing it for 25 years." I said, "Well, who decided that you were going to be, say, you know, an engineer or a lawyer or a doctor or whatever it is?"

Well, I decided that when I was 18, I said, "And you're now 50. would you go to an 18-year-old and ask that 18-year-old for advice on what you should be doing in your life? And I said, "Well, of course not. That's ridiculous." Well, isn't that what you're doing? You know, you're allowing an 18-year-old to decide that because that's what you decided a long time ago, but your passion is pulling you in this direction. Listen to that bliss. I think it's a real important lesson.

Very true. Sorry about that. I went off on a rant. No, I think it's important. You follow people feel um that they don't want to let themselves change. Yeah. Or they feel that there's a certain path and it has to be done a certain way and I have to make a certain amount of money and a job means what a job means getting up in the morning. It means getting dressed. It means putting on a tie or it means putting, you know, on a certain kind of it means going into work. It means parking your car. That but if that's not internally where you are in your life, I last week I I got to tell you this. I had one of the most beautiful experiences. I and and I've been doing it with every chapter of this book that I'm writing, Excuses Begone.

With every chapter before I start the next chapter, and there are 18 chapters, I um I go out to this place. It's about 30 mi, maybe 35 mi from where I am on Maui on West Maui. And it's a waterfall and this waterfall comes down. It comes down like uh about 50 ft or so. And there's a pool there. And there's no one out there. You have to hike through incredible number of rocks and trees and so on. And you get back into this place and there's guava trees growing there with little guava fluts on it. And I go into this place and I stay under this waterfall and I let the water just cascade down on my head. And I go there with this friend of mine and uh who I adore and love. And in those hours that I spend out there in that peaceful, beautiful place, everything I need to know for the next chapter is there. I don't have an outline. I don't have any organization. I don't have a suit and tie. I don't have any all of the accuta

that we have that we believe is associated with a job is all gone and I'm out there in this beautiful blissful place in the middle of this jungle and it's a rainforest and it's the most beautiful place in the world and I come out of there and it's it's almost as if I'm God wraps his arms around me and says this is what you'll need to do for this next chapter just go in there be at peace and I and when I leave there after a couple of hours of being immersed in nature and and and you know finding my own nature in there. I come back here and I sit down and I write and everything just flows so easily and so beautifully. You follow your bliss. You just allow and and everyone else thinks, "Well, that's crazy. You're driving 35 miles then you have to hike 2 hours into this place and it's so isolated. You go out there." And I said, "I wouldn't even begin to know how to start a chapter without making conscious contact with

God." And that's how I do it. It's just my way. But it's not the way. It's just my way. touching the sacred.

Yeah. Dr. Dire, we have time for a very brief comment. I think I'd like to bring Peggy on. She's on line nine from Boise, Boise, Idaho. Peggy, welcome. And and do you have a quick comment for Dr. Dyer?

I do. Boy, how are you? It's so great to talk to you. I've spoken with you before and um

congratulations, by the way, to Boise State. They just beat Oregon yesterday, 3 and 0.

They did. You think I didn't know that? And I keep track of everything. This is not easy being in charge of the whole universe. You know, I keep track of everything.

For a man who sits under guava trees, you sure know a lot about culture. Well, it helps when you hook up with um Lu and and

Yes, that's true. They are they are good guides. Yeah, that that was my comment was, you know, everyone's fear of the economy and your statement about the economy in the first part of the show. I just wanted you to to know that I was one of the first purchasers, I think, of your book. Um, change your thoughts

and change your life and um are my You know what, Peggy, don't go away. I want to I want I want you to hold on. We're going to go to a break. Can you hold on for a couple minutes?

Absolutely. Thank you. Great. I want to talk to you. I just love your voice. Okay,

Peggy, welcome back. You were telling Dr. Dyer that you have his book. I'm assuming it's the latest one, Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life.

Absolutely. And what has happened? Well, what I do for the day is I always I read through it once and then um what I do is just open it up in the morning and say, "Let's what do you have to say to me today?" And and I'll find a passage. And the one that I opened to this morning, we've just gone through a monetary loss. And as with everybody else, it can be scary. And what I opened up to was decreasing, living by decreasing. And boy does that it just seems to apply to your everyday life. And it just told me over and over by doing this to engage yourself in the moment that the moment will give you the answers. And uh

well there's so much truth in what you're saying there especially, you know, in times of financial crisis uh which there really are no times of financial crisis. I mean the the world is just the way it is. Um, and all of that stuff is just num numbers on pieces of paper and people fill themselves with stress and anxiety and suicide thoughts and uh, you know, it's the end of my life and I can't make it and so on. When in fact the, you know, uh, this little tiny bit of space between your birth and your death uh, you know, it's your parenthesis in eternity all the rest of the time, all of the time before and all the time after, uh, which is infinite.

There's no money. There's no there's no there's no stuff. There's nothing for you to take care of. There's nothing for you to ensure. There's nothing for you to worry about.

And if you go into, as you said, if you get into the moment, just the present moment, there's, you know, one of the great enlightening things for me a long time ago when I I remember hearing someone at a lecture saying that uh that everything that's ever happened to you, you know, in in your life happened in the present moment and everything that's ever going to happen to you happens in the present moment. There's no past, there's no future, there's no none of that. So that your whole life

life becomes beautiful if you can not be in fear and and just if you're in this moment, there's no room for fear

because about the past or worrying about the future. The stress comes from the past and the future. The living is in the moment and there's no fear there.

That's so true. And all the all the stress that you're having about the past or or about the future is happening now. what's happening in the moment. So, it's just stress or anxiety or fear. These are just methods or techniques that we've come up with as a way to use up the present moment doing something other than being blissfully in it.

Right? It's like instead of being here in this moment like when I was describing the moment last week out in this beautiful waterfall with you know in the pool and swimming across there and reaching up and grabbing a branch and pulling a guava down and and uh you know rinsing it off and opening it up and eating guava that was that that it's a gift from the gods. I mean there was there was no cash register there. There wasn't was nobody saying that that you you know and there was only two people Tiffany and myself were the only two people in this pool out in the middle.

You could have been there. So I I just happened to find it. I was there and I could I could stay there for the I could stay there for the rest of my life and probably no one would find me and and eat guava and drink the fresh water that's coming off of the mountains and and make it and you know it's I often think about what the world must have looked like. I watch where I swim every night at the at sunset on Kopali beach and I watch as the it's now September so the sun now sets over uh Lai whereas in March it sets over Machai which is you know about 10 15 mi to the right and I just think I was thinking last night I was saying I wonder what the people who lived here before we knew that this was a round planet and that we were moving through space and that there was you know there was such a thing as the sun setting and being round ball and the you know being uh the the earth being you know this because it just looks like a

flat ocean with a big big yellow ball out there that just keeps moving back and forth across every 6 months or so it moves across and when we didn't almost all of this information that we have about it we can go in on the internet we can Google it we can get it all figured out and it it almost takes away from the the beauty of just watching this thing bring us you know something that sustains our lives, doesn't it? You know, we get all like the little boy that called it the I don't know if you heard the whole show, the little boy that called the 11-year-old boy and called about taking a test. I thought, you know, why should 11year-old boy be filled with anxiety and be, you know, not be able to be calm because he's got to take a test,

right? You know, when all we have to do is just be in the moment and just enjoy it and make that our lives. It sounds simplistic but it's uh I have found that for myself at this time in my life it's much more peaceful for me to be in that state than it is in one in which I worry and get anxious about things.

I think that that's a good place for all of us to be in and and the more that we can collectively get there.

Which is why I believe that I I am a teacher. I I try to pass this information in your book to my kids, my family, my friends because I think the more people that are in that a little pass quickly.

I think we're we're losing your line there. I'm sorry. Kind of breaking up a bit for us. So,

well, thank you so much and thank you to Hay House and to you, Summer. I I've also visited your program and and talked to you and and I just think Hay House is a great place to be.

Thanks, Peggy. You know, and I look forward to in in January, we're having we're doing this new film, you know, the uh from Ambition to Meaning. I don't you have you heard me talk about it on the radio with

Absolutely. I hear everything you do. Oh. Oh, that's great. Good. Are you coming to I can do it in um in uh

I am unfortunately not going to come this year, but I intend fully to be there at one of them very soon.

There's going to be one in uh instead of Las Vegas next year. It's going to be in San Diego. So, you can just shoot on down there and we'll be showing the film at that time. But, we're having a big premiere for it in January. I just uh just talked to the director of it. So,

can't wait. From ambition to meaning, I can't wait either. It's exciting. Thank you so much for all that you do. Both of you.

Thanks. Namaste. God bless you. Thank you. Bye. Thanks so much for your call, Peggy. What a nice woman. My goodness. Sometimes I just talk to people and just just feel so good from

from their energy. Well, we have Stuart now. He's on line one from Holland, Michigan. Stuart, welcome to the program. You're speaking with Dr. Wayne Dyer.

Yes. Hello. Hi, Stuart. How you doing? Hey. Uh, I'm doing great. I've been in your town many times. I've been to the tulip festival up there and

Oh, really? Yeah. Yes. I grew up in Michigan. Yes, I know. I came to see you last year in Detroit.

Oh, did you? Yep. And uh we uh just try to be brief as possible, but uh my wife and I have grown up pretty much kind of fundamental as Christians and our whole thought process was so much different and uh we've come across your stuff on the PBS uh special and have gradually

learned so much and we feel like our lives have grown a lot. We just struggle. We have six kids and just keeping a schedule and I have my own business to work out of my home and uh it's hard to keep feel like you know the schedule drives you instead of being able to

you know do what you want to do. It just seems like so many things, you know, when the kids get home, they're so much energy and uh their schedules and things after school. And I've tried getting up early as you've suggested uh and I can do it for a day or so and then I'm I'm just tired and uh

and uh you know then with our you know we went to church every week and just our whole life it's it feels like there's so many good things but it it feels like we're kind of going through this change and it's hard to feel like we're just having trouble getting over that edge of coming into a a routine and a schedule and and maybe making other acquaintances. and friends and being able to grow that way. And

that's oh boy, there's a lot in this call, Stuart. U what's what's interesting and and you have six kids. I have eight I have eight kids. So I I know about the large family situation and all of that. But uh I must say that, you know, I was really blessed and and and blessed to have uh my wife was, you know, was in harmony with me on this is that um we really raised our children to be self-sufficient. I've always believed in the line that parents are not for leaning, they are to make leaning unnecessary. And so much of when especially when we have a lot of children, um we have a tendency to let their schedules and to let their concerns and to let their activities and and their needs be the most dominant force in our lives to a point where it becomes in excuses become this is one of the categories, you know, my life is too full. I'm too busy. I can't live the life I want to lead because I've just I'm overscheduled,

right? And you know because there's soccer games and there's recital and there's uh you know there's endless numbers of activities uh before school, after school, you know, things that they have to do and so on. And the more of those things, Stuart, that you and your wife can let your kids do for themselves, including making their own breakfasts, including um you know, taking care of themselves, including getting themselves to their meetings. I think the more you're teaching them the most important thing that they can learn. I mean, what what do they have to learn? It's just called self-reliance. Just that's what it is. That's what I've been teaching since I was a little boy is and and I've taught all of my children. Rely upon yourself. Be willing to take care of yourself. And that doesn't mean me having to give up my life. And and you have a you know, your marriage will suffer. And um you know, if you don't

take time for just the two of you and let the children figure things out for themselves and do more and and not get you know, seduced into that whole guilt trip kind of thing that that, you know, and children do this to their parents now. It's like this is what you owe me. This is your responsibility. You have to make sure that I get to, you know, this team, this game, this, you know, and all of Um, I always told my kids, you got to figure these things out. You got to, you know, go back to your own life, you know. I mean, did your parents do everything for you when you came home from school and when you

No, actually, yeah, we we I I did we grew up pretty self-sufficient. My dad really stressed that um you know

doing doing what we wanted to do and you know they they would cart us around a little bit but no we we were pretty self-sufficient but it's it's just even the daily routine you know just trying to take time you know you want to we try to get into do the meditations and the

doing reading and I and I really like to write and been doing some of that and it just seems like there's so many things pulling constantly that it's so hard to get your mind clear or get time to

to do it right. You know what? Yeah. You got to make the thing that you're talking about here, the moments of meditation, the time when you can go for a walk in nature and be in peace, that the moment I just described to you about the, you know, picking guavas on a in a waterfall in the middle of nowhere. Doesn't that sound enticing to you?

Oh, yeah. I love it. We we live in a beautiful place right along. And my goodness. I mean, and you have a thousand lakes within probably 10 miles of your house, you know. I know where you live. And all of that is a possibility if you make it a priority. If you are, you know, cuz everything is a choice. Even the choice not to do something is still a choice. So the way that your life is overcheduled and overfilled with details that take you away from your bliss that take you from away from the the thing that you love, including your wife, your time, and your children. You know, you can just go through your whole calendar and you can just start scratching an awful lot of stuff and just say, you know, it's like our lives are about about loving and about being peaceful and about about fulfilling a dharma inside. I mean, if you feel a calling to be doing writing, you know, you've got six kids, they feel

callings, too. And if they're allowed to listen to those callings and your and by the way, what about your wife and what her callings are? you know, it's like uh

uh you know, just it's wonderful to serve and to take care of your children, but the one of the worst things that you can do is become their victim, you know, of of all of that scheduling and all of that. And give yourself permission to to live your life fully and uh and enjoy every moment that you have and and those callings that you feel inside to to be meditating, to be writing, to do drawing, to create your own music, whatever it might be. As I said in 10 secrets for success in interpace don't die with your music still in you.

Yeah, you know. Yeah, that seems like where we're feeling that a lot of that we're just it's like we can't sustain it. But uh and you have other relatives and everything pulling at you as well that when and that's the thing I was saying all our relatives seem like it's a different lifestyle to live the way that we were talking to try to take time for yourself is not what we were taught and that's not

no and and when you come out of that fundamentalist Christian mentality of that you have you know your duty is to do you know whatever it is the church tells you that your duty is well obviously you know where I come from. I don't I I think that inside your job is to be happy and your job is to teach your children how to be happy and be fulfilled within themselves. As long as you're doing that, I wouldn't listen to any relatives.

Okay, got to go. Thanks a lot. Thanks. See you next week. Yeah. Thank you, Stuart. God bless you, my friend.

Welcome to the show, Dr. Dyer. How are you? I'm great, thank you. How are you? I'm very good. And we've got some calls rolling in right now. Is there anything that you wanted to talk about first or just jump to the calls?

I'm ready. I'm ready to jump in. Okay, let's do it. Let's start with Stuart and he's calling from Michigan today on line one. Interesting question here and hi Stuart. You're on the air with Dr. Wayne Dyer.

Hi Wayne. Good to talk to you again. Thank you. How are you my friend? Good. Talked to you a couple times in the past.

We've grown up, my wife and I, in very religious settings. you know, we go back several generations and most of our friends and family are, you know, very involved in churches and regular churchgoing and we've changed a fair amount over the last maybe 3, four years. A lot of your teachings and books and different things have helped us a lot personally, but now we're feel like we're kind of stuck trying to know how to converse with uh you know our friends and family when they kind of assume because you've grown up a certain way and different things and trying to figure out how to uh you know have conversations or um you know resist some of the conversations that come up you know particularly like if I mean if you just say you don't don't hate say the current president or things like that um

you know right away it gets you know that's just kind of what most of our friends and family and things have grown up you know they're just they're just so immersed in that and we've we've tried to you know gradually just move away but we just feel like we've kind of been in this stuck a little bit for over the last I don't know year or so you know we just we haven't really attended the church real regularly and

uhhuh you know things like that and we're just it just seems like a constant thing. We've have, you know, friends from from different churches that go back um quite a ways and, you know, good friends, good people, but it's all kind of immersed and it's so hard to know should we just, you know, be silent or um do you try to try to change the directions of conversations or I I love

it's Yeah, I I I have lots of I mean, I could talk for two hours on this subject and and I know we've you and I have talked before. I just watched a movie yesterday. It was called The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. I don't know if you've seen that or not, but it's it's about about took place in the during the Holocaust, and it's about two little boys uh who um become friends, but one of them is a prisoner, and one of them is a Jew and a prisoner, and the other is a a son of a Nazi. And uh I don't want to go through the, you know, the entire story, but what I was taken by throughout the watching of the film is the amount of indoctrination that uh seems to go on in the lives of people. I mean these people especially the people who were the the Nazis and the Nazi families were just absolutely totally convinced that uh just by putting a label on somebody like you're a Jew that that makes you and there were all kinds

of conclusions inferior it makes you a prisoner it makes you someone who's uh you know that we're allowed to manipulate we're allowed to abuse and so on but it wasn't so much even that as it was it was the u the the amount of the the number of memes if you've read excuses be gone see that I wrote in there about something called memes. And these memes are these mind viruses that are placed into our heads. And the places that they're placed into our heads are like in schools by governments and by religious organizations. And they start telling you that this is the way things are. This is the way you're supposed to think. This is the way you're supposed to be. And if you're not fitting in and if you're not doing that, then there's something wrong with you.

And what happens is we start to uh we start to buy into these things and we start to believe them. and they become are facts when in fact the the when you put them up to to test that whether any of these mind viruses are true, you find out that there's no truth to any of them. Yet people run their lives on them. And that's what your question that's what your comment reminds me of here this morning of of people who have been told this is how you're supposed to think. This is what you're supposed to do. This is what we believe. And because you were born here in this city at this time and had these parents and and were you herded into this particular church on this particular Sunday and I'm not taking any any position one way or the other on on any of it, but it's like uh my I've said it so many times on this radio show, it's been almost 5 years now that uh you know Maslo's great teaching was uh you know self-actualizing

people's number one quality characteristic is that they that they've learned to become independent of the good opinion of other people. And that's what you have to keep in mind when you find yourself in these kinds of places where prejudices and judgments and hatreds and uh and so on are passed down from one generation to the other, from one person to the other. These viruses uh infiltate and they duplicate and they spread from one person to the other. And if you're going to be a fully functioning self-actualized highly evolved being who's moving towards enlightenment, you have to literally just almost smile inwardly at the way other people's are reacting to you and figure out a way at all times to be uh independent of their good opinion. to either ignore it, to let it go, to just make a simple comment, but to inside be totally free from u being concerned, even concerned about how you're being

perceived or whether you know other people are liking you or not liking you. And it's a huge it's a disease in our society. Do you know what I mean?

Yeah. And I I guess what we've struggled I mean I don't know if it's just my personality or um I naturally want to try to tell people you know what I've learned or what I've seen or whatever but I I don't want to preach but it's just it's a natural thing to to try to want to engage on the conversation but it quickly

it quickly gets tripped up. You know there's there's these different ways that people have you know set up the system so that you can't even have the conversation. Well, see this is where I play the game, you know, and I've always said there are three ways to enlightenment. You know, the first way is called enlightenment through suffering, which is you do you you something happens in your life, you suffer for a long period of time, and then ultimately you come to a point in your life where you realize that um you know, this is what I had to go through.

This is why I went through that. The second is when these things are coming at you and um you know instead of waiting 5 10 years and going through the suffering you begin to say to yourself what's in it for me. But the third and this is the one I want to speak about here. The third way to enlightenment is when you get out in front of it. And this is what I I find myself doing a lot today especially at the age of 69. And that is to play out a a conversation that I'm going to have with people who are speaking in a certain way, knowing that if I were to take it this way, and I can do this all very very quickly. I can do it within a matter of 10 or 15 seconds. I can see if I say this, this is what's going to happen and then that person's going to do this and then I'm going to lose them and then they're going to be upset or if I say this, uh, I'm going to, you know, this is what it or if I say nothing. And generally the

best my response almost always is to say nothing. is to maybe make one little comment or whatever and to practice what Lasu calls non-inference. You know, let people have their belief systems. Don't engage if you know that engaging is and then you can predict what especially if you know these people what your reaction is going to create in them and just let it go and stay in a peaceful place throughout the whole thing and just smile inwardly as you walk away saying, "Well, I've stayed out of that one. It's probably for the best. And uh and at least I've still got a chance in the future maybe to help them uh to come around or to see things a little bit differently. But you know what uh Stuart people, you know, they always say the stu when the student is ready, the teachers appear. And and if they're not ready, the teachers are always there.

But if they're not ready, if they're simply not ready, you're better off not trying to make them ready because they have to evolve into their readiness. You know, Carl Jung said that we will not all of our significant problems, we will not solve them. We have to outgrow them. We have to outgrow them. And when people are being prejudiced or they're being hateful or they're they're finding they're finding reasons to be upset about things, uh they they still they've got a lot of growing to do. And they have to do that in their own time at their own pace. Infinite patience.

Infinite patience is the course in miracles produces immediate results. Immediate results. Does that make any sense or is it uh

Yeah, I Yeah, it does. I mean, so I mean, as a general rule, and that's that's kind of what we've done. We we've not argued or I mean, we've we've really just tried to stay peaceful and all that, but it's

it goes so deep in both sides of our family that uh where it gets a little awkward is say, you know, we're in the restaurant, we got your book, we're reading it, and somebody comes in that we know, and hey, what you reading?

And you know, uh it's hard. It just the the gap is so wide that some, you know,

but but what would be their reaction? You shouldn't read that. this guy doesn't know what he's talking about. This is um you know

Oh, yeah. I mean, right away there's so many little trap doors, you know, Satan and all the different things, you know, that right right away it's just

But see what I I start my sentences instead of one of the best ways to do this is don't start your sentence with another person who's like that with the word I always start it with the word you. So that instead of saying but I believe in this and I don't and there's no Satan and all then go through this whole thing. It's like you respond back to so you really feel that this is something that would be damaging and you just let them you just keep repeating that you're hearing what they're saying but you're not letting you're not letting yourself get seduced into that argumentative stance where you're now going to create enmity and bitterness uh when you know you can just keep this you can just keep this all very sweet and soft and um you know and even let them walk away thinking you know all right so if you think Satan's in there that's very interesting I never really I never put together never thought Satan and

Wayne Dyer in the same sentence. But I'll think about that. I'll I'll give that some thought. You're once you're free of the need to be approved of by them. You can do anything you want with it. And that's what I would do with it. That's how I would handle it. Just let them think all of those things. And ultimately, I mean, you can't imagine how many people read erroneous ownones back in the 70s and thought that this was just so nonsensical and this was all all BS and all of that and then 20 years later write me these beautiful letters telling me how it completely turned their life around. And that's 20 years after it was written because they just weren't ready for what was being written at that time, you know, and this happens on a regular basis.

And by the way, Stuart, it's probably true in your life, too. Probably a lot of the things that you believe now, you thought were nonsense uh when you were a kid, you know. So,

yeah. Well, that's true. We've we've traveled a huge huge distance, you know, and and we're excited about it, but we don't know whether we talk about it or not.

And you know, I just wanted to comment about our last caller because this is something that I've hear I hear coming up a lot with our hey houseradio.com listeners. And actually, I was just listening to your audio program with Dr. Northrup, which is amazing. By the way, everybody,

you know, I haven't heard it. Yeah, I haven't heard it yet, but it just came out. I just got a copy of it. I'm uh I'm anxious to relisten to it cuz I remember the day and I just love her. I mean, she's one of my all-time favorite people, one of the great physicians in the country. What's it called? Inside Out Wellness.

Inside Out Wellness. And you you two both really, you know, work well together. I mean, I really enjoyed it. And the reason it it made me think about the last caller was that you addressed someone in the in the Q&A session during the lecture and she had the same question as Stuart where she was struggling with trying to find a a relationship with spirit as opposed to what she had been brought up with. And I think

you know when you start making shifts and changes in your life and and like you said to Stuart you know there's a lot of things that you may have believed when you were younger that you certainly don't believe. I think of the so many of those things. Even even prejudices, even things that I said when I, you know, I always say the true nobility, it's not about being better than anyone else. It's about being better than you used to be. And thank God I'm better than I used to be. Because I mean, there were there were things that I said, things that I did. I actually shoplifted when I was a kid a couple of times. I mean, I can't I couldn't even imagine taking something that didn't belong to me today. a lot of ways that I behaved toward people, a lot of attitudes, a lot of belief systems that I had which are totally opposite of what I have today. So you you look back on your own life and you realize that

and the place to try to get to is that place where Maslo said where you're independent of the opinions of other people where you're not doing what you're doing because of of the even the outcome of it or or what people might think. You're doing what you're doing because your heart tells you this is where I am. and really fearless leaders, the ones that really make an impact in the world are the ones that uh you know are willing to you know take on the slings and arrows of uh of outrageous fortune. They're willing to be criticized you know and to not find themselves being offended by it.

Yeah. I think it it's so important because I hear it coming up time and time again where people are making changes and then they're afraid of what people are going to think or they're not going to be able to relate to their relatives. And in the in the segment that I heard in Inside Out Wellness, basically the same thing that you told Stuart uh about her crazy aunt, you know, come at her with love. And it it was just great.

It's it's always because you it's very hard to fight with somebody who's not interested in fighting, you know, it's like uh and you just let them know that I'm not going to be seduced into uh you know, graveling around uh and trying to defend myself or find fault with you or make you wrong. This is just where I come from. And uh but a lot of times, as I told him, a lot of times the best response is just non-inference. Just have that conversation before it takes place. Realize that if you say this, this is what's going to happen. Then he's going to say that, then she's going to say this, and the whole thing's going to go in that direction. It's going to be tumultuous. It's going to be angry.

There's going to be, okay, I'm not going to do that. Instead, I'll say, you know what, that's a good point. I'm going to really think about that. And then you've put you've put a complete end to that. And every time they try to tell you how wrong you are or whatever, you say, "Well, you know what? I'll consider that because I'm open to change. I'm not attached to anything." So, thank you for sharing.

Right. It's such great advice. Yeah. So, let's go to a few more people here. Sure.

Uh, let's talk to Stacy. And she's calling from Missouri online, too. And welcome to the show, Stacy. You're on with Dr. Dyer.

Hi. Thank you so much for taking my call. Thank you. Hi, Stacy. Hi. How are you?

I'm great. How are you? I'm doing good. I'm doing good. I had a question for you. I have been dating someone for a year now and

he was diagnosed with um bipolar disorder when he was a teenager. He's in his 30s now. And he told me right away when we began the relationship that he had the disorder, but I didn't know much about it. And I mean, there was nothing that would run me away. of course, you know, but I didn't know

what would come with it. And, you know, during the year, it's been tough. You know, he has a lot of ups and downs and

and I'm what um I guess would be considered a highly sensitive person. I soak up everything. So, when he has his ups and downs, I go right with him. And

I have been doing really well. I meditate often and um just to manage my own high level of sensitivity and keep myself under control, I meditate. But I've been finding myself kind of following him more than myself, you know, just because he he may go off on the deep end one day and I don't know what's going on. and he'll be extremely happy one day. And you know, it's just been a bit of a roller coaster. And I don't I mean, I've been reading about it, but the the hard part is that he's kind of in denial about it. So, it's just it's been tough. I don't really know. I love him, but sometimes I resent him a little bit because he can be so mean, you know, and I don't want to feel that way. Um,

yeah, a lot of times people will use a diagnosis like this as a as a reason to just be nasty. Uh, and

I'm not a real big fan of putting labels on people and then having them uh, you know, for the rest of their life identify the reasons why they don't get any better or the reasons why their life isn't working is because of, you know, ADD or because of bipolar or whatever it is. By the way, these are things that didn't even exist 25, 30 years ago. There's no such thing as that.

These are all relatively new uh you know areas that psychiatry has just said, okay, this is a disorder. This is as if it were a real thing. And so, uh, I think my advice to you, not, this is not to him because I'm not a physician and I'm not a a medical practitioner and you know, these are just my opinions obviously,

but my advice to you would be to uh to remember that getting upset when somebody else is upset, getting depressed when somebody else is depressed, letting their behavior affect you is will never ever help that other person.

Okay? In other words, so that if somebody like I always say if you get angry at somebody for being angry at you, you just contribute to the amount of anger in the world. Uh and you just you just double it right there in that moment. And I always you try to remember the lessons of the great spiritual masters who uh were would stay above that. So that your job is to when you start seeing these kinds of behaviors surfacing instead of you know calling yourself you calling yourself an extremely sensitive person is no different than him calling himself a bipolar person. Okay,

that's just another label that you place on yourself instead of put you know and and remember what I always say about labeling as Kagard said you know once you label me you negate me once you have to identify yourself with the label you negate who you are the label becomes all of the explanations for everything and and you do a little bit of that yourself

so that what you want to do is when he starts behaving in these kinds of ways is to remind yourself that you are not going to join him in his disorder or in his behavior or his crass uh remarks s and things like that.

So even if it means you have to just get up and excuse yourself and leave the room,

you let him know that when you begin to conduct yourself in these ways, the message that you're sending to me is that I do not participate in that. I'm coming from a place of kindness. I'm coming from a place of love and I stay there. This is where I stay. uh because you know in the Dao it says you know the a man of a person of Dao you know always practices kindness and the reason they practice kindness is because they are kind to the kind and they are kind to the unkind because kindness is their nature. If kindness is your nature then that's all you want to be able to have come out of you. And you can't allow somebody else's behavior to be the reason why you detract yourself from your nature. And that's what you're doing here. You're letting you're letting in and and so but you can make that shift. You can make it and you can begin to practice it as you start to see these behaviors of his surface. You

know, you can just go to just a reminder to yourself. Okay, this is a time for me to remember who I am and where I'm coming from. I don't get dragged down by his negativity. I'm not going to join him and create more, you know, un meanness as you say or unhappiness, you know, by being unhappy with him. I'm going to go even a little bit higher and let him know this isn't where I go. And if he can, if he persists in it, you just excuse yourself. You just, you know, you don't even have to give a lecture. You don't have to say, "Excuse me," and you just get up and you're gone for 10 minutes or 15 minutes.

That's what I'm guilty of giving him a lecture. That's that's the wor absolutely worst thing you can do because then all you're doing is then joining him in his kind of behavior. You are be you are letting his negativity be the reason why you become negative yourself and then you'll get angry and he's not going to change with that anyway,

right? Um is he on medication for this for bipolar? um he gets it but he doesn't take it. He doesn't like how it makes him feel. So

yeah. Yeah. Most of the time it doesn't. And very often these anti-depressant things that uh that people are taking. I mean they're starting to put warning labels on these things and they're starting to realize, you know, that people become suicidal. They become, you know, it's like these are just brain scrambling drugs that are being dispensed as if they were candy. You know, I mean, when I when my wife and I separated 10 years ago, uh I I was just talk I I just went in for a blood test and uh the doctor who's just a regular doctor there uh a GP uh wrote me out a prescription for an anti-depressant. You said, "Oh, you must he said you must be depressed." And he said, "And here's the side effects." You know, the doctor

Oh my gosh, that happened to me, too. I I went in for a similar I went in because I I was feeling a little bit down and I just went to my doctor but I knew it it was nothing more than the job I didn't like and he gave me a box of anti-depressant samples and told me to start taking them and I'm like no

can you imagine now listen to that I mean just just think about that what is happening out there with PE and these are drugs that scramble the brain

well we've got about 2 minutes of maybe time to get started with someone else so and you were talking about lecturing And I think this is going to be a good call. Tom in Kentucky has a question for you on line six. And welcome to the show, Tom.

Hi. Thanks for taking my call. Hi, Todd. Dr. Dyer, I've read your several of your books, seen you live in person, listened to your tapes, and as we speak right at this moment, I I have so much to be thankful for in my life. My life is so wonderful in so many ways. But the thing that I'm going through right now is I've discovered my 17-year-old son has been using marijuana

and I kind of lowered the boom on him. I strongly disapprove and it's caused an estrangement between us. He decided he wanted to go back and live with his mom. So that's part of it. The other part of it is I I keep imagining the worst. Uh, and I know this is typical teenage behavior. As you were saying earlier,

we've all done things when we were younger that we wouldn't do today that we regret,

but I just keep imagining the worst. I mean, he could be driving under the influence. He could kill himself, kill somebody else, get addicted to stronger drugs. I just it's it's just driving me crazy with worry. And

Okay. What What if you found out that he was having a glass of wine um or a couple of beers? with that.

Well, I caught him drinking, too. That was a while back. Um, I would disapprove of that, too. But for some reason, drugs,

it's worse to me. I don't know. Yeah. Because, you know, we've we've been we've been really this is again one of those memes that we've been conditioned to believe in. I don't want to um you know minimize uh the impact of of drugs in our society whether they're prescription drugs or you heard me just go off on on the prescription drug industry which I think I think is destroying our country. I mean uh literally we're creating a whole nation of pill poppers. But I think you got to put this back into perspective. So you found out that your son was smoking marijuana um and you had it out with him and then he's decided he wants to go live with his mom. Is that correct?

Correct. Yes. Okay. So, what is your worst fear? What what are you what what are you imagining?

Well, my my worst fear is that he kills himself or kill somebody else when he's driving it under the influence,

right? You know, that's that's murder. Yeah, of course it is. Yeah. But um why why would you go there in your mind that u you know I mean I mean you you know the same thing is true of uh you know if he were drinking alcohol or if he had too much sugar or if he I mean there's any number of uh of of things that could happen there. See what we've done is we've we've taken this thing called marijuana and we've demonized it and we've created criminals with people you know who use it, people who distribute it, people who whatever. I have a very different view of drugs. My view is that they should all be made legal and that we should clean the whole thing up and that we should tax the hell out of them and clean and and make sure that they're pure and if people want to use them that they should have the freedom to do that or you know uh get rid of all of them because I mean the the worst drugs that

we have in our society you know like tobacco kills two out of every three of its customers are die from a smoking related illness. Two out of three that's almost 70%. alcohol, of course, you know, the number of alcoholics and the uh the kinds of problems that are taking place in there and so on. And also, by the way, marijuana was legal in this country up until 1930s. It was literally made illegal because of the pressures of the tobacco industry. They didn't want that kind of competition. I wouldn't go where you're going with it. In my mind, I would take a very different tact on it. Have you ever smoked marijuana? You know, when I was that age, I tried it exactly three times. And all three times, it was to impress a girl, and it never worked. So,

yeah. But you did try it. And supposing supposing your father had found out that you had tried it and decided that he didn't want to talk to you anymore or he was angry at you or he's going to send you off someplace or supposing your father had the same reaction that you're having with all of the drama that you're creating in your own mind. Uh, which is basically, you know, you can say it over and over again. and I'm an old man and I've had many troubles, most of which have never happened. The idea that your son is going to go out stoned on marijuana and do this make this kind of a you know thing happen is very very very minimally uh mostly unlikely that it's going to happen. But you've decided to go there in your mind and create instead of recognizing that this is something that takes place in our society. Whether we like it or don't like it, whether we approve of it or don't approve of it, whether we think

it's right or wrong or moral or immoral, it's still these are all just viruses that we carry around in our mind and and tell ourselves some horrible kind of uh story about uh what's going to happen when you can't even be certain that anything like that is likely to happen. Why not be in a place in your life where your son can come to you and tell you anything at all that's going on in his life, anything he wants to try, anything he wants to experience, and he's not going to get anything but someone who listens and can and give some advice instead of having to you like the words you use. You caught him, you know, as if he were a criminal and doing something that every other kid in this country is doing. Does that make sense or does it just sound like I'm just in favor of everybody going out and getting stoned, which I'm not in favor of at all?

I do understand what you're saying, you know, especially about possibly legalizing it and removing all the um

the criminal the criminal criminal activity involved in it. On the other hand, well, before you give me the other hand, every police department and commissioner and and police official in this country supports what I'm just talking about. This isn't just coming from a new age spiritual teacher. You know, the cops in our country are sick and tired of having to, you know, play the criminal game with kids who are doing who are, you know, uh, you know, smoking a little pot. Okay. Go ahead.

Yeah. Well, the other hand was he's 17 and when you're that age, I don't think you're quite ready to be responsible enough to handle those kind of things, even if it was legal. I mean, alcohol is illegal for adults. I don't want him drinking either at that age.

But that doesn't mean anything that you don't want him drinking because he's going to because every kid at 17 or 18 in this country except for maybe one or two% drink, you know, they go to parties, they drink, they try to every I've got eight kids, every single one of them did it, you know, when they were underage. I mean, and and you go to the campus and every I mean, it's something it's going on. It's out there and every 17-year-old in the country isn't prepared. And there are some 17 year olds that can handle that fine. What I'm looking at is the way that you communicate with your son there. If you can get to a place where there are no nothing is off limits, where you can come from a place of understanding instead of judgment, instead of anger, and talk to him from this perspective and recognize that you cannot stop him from drinking or doing drugs, uh, you know, uh, uh, marijuana outside of your

home, but you got a much better chance of helping him to be responsible about it and to not use it as an entry drug so that the next thing he's doing is meth, you know, crystal meth and the next thing he's doing is cocaine. and the next thing he's doing is heroin. I mean, this is this is the line that we that we take and we use this fear kind of mentality when that's uh it does happen, but it's a very rare thing that it happens. I mean, kids do it and then they stop and then they move on.

Yes, I I do realize that and I guess what I and I understand what you're saying. I guess what I really want

for me is well number one to get to the place that you're talking about and number two stop eating myself up with worry about it

going to happen. I know I can't stop him when he's outside the house. I know he's going to do it.

Yeah. If you know that and that's the thing I always say about parenting that parenting is not for leaning. It's to make leaning unnecessary. You talk to your kids, you give them advice, you tell them, but you know, you don't uh they don't make that decision when they're in your presence. It's when they leave your presence that you want them to be able to say, you know, if I am going to do it, I'm just going to do it this way and I'm not going to let myself get stoned. I'm not going to get behind the wheel and drive. And and the only way you can get to that place is if you have open communication with your kids.

These are things that you know in the 4th century BC the parents were talking about this younger generation you know and they don't understand and then in the 18th century I mean this is what goes on with humanity we think that we know what the next generation needs to do and how they need to think and we don't take time to talk to them and to to listen to them and to to have them be in such a a state I remember I was a a high school counselor in an all girls school a Catholic school back in Michigan for four years uh right after I got my uh masters and my PhD and there were so many girls that would come in here who now this is a cat a strict Catholic school who would come in and tell me that they got pregnant. I was the counselor in the school one of the counselor and I'd say okay then we'll talk to your parents. Oh my god I could never talk to my parents. This is like and I used to think to myself this is

before I even had children. And I used to think, boy, if I ever have daughters, I don't want to be the last, if I'm their parent, I don't want to be the last person that they talk to and the one that they're most afraid to come to because they're in trouble because they've gotten themselves in something that they don't know what. I want to be the first person who's going to be there for them, who's going to hold her hand, who's going to put my arms around her and let her know, I love you and I care for you, and I'm not going to judge you just because you're doing something that I think uh you shouldn't have done, you know? Do you know what I mean? him.

Yeah. That's where I think you need to go with your son. That's where you need to go with your son. And you need to let your son know that it it's this fear, this big fear that you have. It's why I ask you, what is your fear that he's going to drive and he's going to kill himself? Is that the reason that I'm It is not because I'm afraid you're going to get into trouble. The reason I'm so concerned is because I love you so much. I love you so much that I don't want you to do something that's going to hurt you. I don't think he feels like you love him so much right now. I think he feels that you want to be rid of him and that you're ashamed of him and that shame it comes out in your fear and that shame is the weakest thing that you can emotion that you can have for your son and for yourself.

Yeah. Does that make sense? Does that I hope that helps. Yeah. Yeah, it does. I'm I'm kind of uh getting emotional here listening to you because

Yeah, I get emotional. I get emotional, too. And and and I think we make way too big a deal. I mean, I you know that the the crisis in California could be solved right now if we legalize marijuana, a drug that everybody's using. I mean, it's not like we're saying, "Okay, if we legalize it and and make it available and tax it and clean it up and all of that, that that means we're in favor of it." I'm I'm not in favor of tobacco. I'm not in favor of marijuana. I'm not in favor of cigarettes and alcohol and all of that. I don't do those things in my life. But if the whole population is doing it, then let's not have our head in the sand and pretend that it's not happening. It is happening. So how can we make it, you know, so that it isn't doesn't have these delletterious kind of outcomes that you've imagined in your mind, most of which are just imaginations.

Okay, that's what I have to say to you. I would call my son and I would ask him to come and talk to you about it uh from with an open perspective, you know, and I would I would remember, Tom, I would remember that you smoked pot when you were his age, too.

So, that's really being a hypocrite. I don't say that angrily. I say that with great love for you because I know what you're going through. I have eight kids. I know what you're going through.

I I realize that. Thank you so much. Yeah. Thank you. God bless you. God bless you.

Well, Dr. Dr. Dyer, I have to say listening to Tom's call, it certainly brought back a couple of memories for me.

You better not have smoked. If you did, I am going to have you. Well, I was going to confess when I was 17 and my mother found a smoking apparatus in my purse. And uh I'm I was just thinking back of the whole exchange when you were talking with Tom about this whole thing that I went talked to my mother and of course I lied and I denied it and I go, "Well, that's not mine. I'm holding it for soand so you would never do that." And you know, and on the one hand, I could hear the pain in Tom's voice, and I'm sure I caused my mother pain because she wasn't stupid.

She knew that, you know, I had that smoking apparatus for a reason. So, but I I liked what you said because I really wish now looking back that I could have talked to her about

the whole thing. If your kids have to lie to you about anything, if your kids have to lie, I can say with confidence right today that my kids from all of them from 19 up to 42 and throughout their lives know that they could come to me or their mother with whatever it was, no matter what it was, and they wouldn't get judgment from us. They would get an offer to let's see what we can do about it. That's the kind of relationship you want to create. You don't want to have that where somebody has to lie and and lying, you know, I I've just been through something with in a relationship that I'm in with someone who's been lying to me. And it's like it isn't it isn't about what the person did. It's that deception. It's like and I asked myself, what did I do to create, you know, a situation where somebody has to deceive me uh in in order for them to be able to be uh you know, around me? I just don't like deception. And it's like

it's really this kind of thing is uh is what causes uh I mean I think that Tom and his son can probably come to you know a place where they have you know a complete understanding about.

Sure. Or at least open the door with uh with conversation which was something that uh you know thinking back I wish that I would have been you know more honest and and spoke with her about it. And then fast forward, you know, years and years later when my mother was going through her cancer treatments, we ended up uh getting her pot and I reminded her of that story and we kind of laughed about it, you know.

Yeah. I mean, it's a medical treatment. It's a treatment. And I mean, I think we we got we've got the word marijuana. We've demonized the word marijuana. It's just a plant and it just grows out there. You don't have to do anything to it. And most of the time, you know, very few people commit crimes on uh under the influence of marijuana. you know, they just have some malamars and uh and go go to sleep. Yeah. Right. I mean, it's like they don't want you don't get hostile. You don't want to fight. As opposed to alcohol where people are always smashing each other around and killing each other and so on, you know, with marijuana, even if they're driving, they just drive slow, you know, and it's uh

right. I don't know. I just think, as I said, I think we've demonized this whole thing and uh instead of like seeing it from a much more realistic perspective. And the fact is, if the population is like 70, 80, 90% of the population is doing something like this, then we should stop pretending that because we make it illegal, that means that we're doing we're exercising this war on drugs. The war on drugs does nothing but just create more casualties.

Well, I I can't wait to see the emails we get after today's show. Yeah, probably. Well, that's okay. I'm independent of the good opinion of you, just in case you don't, you know, and I'm listening. I'm willing to listen.

We'll be right back with Dr. Wayne Dyer. Congratulations. You're one video closer to who you're meant to be. Believe. For some more incredible Wayne Dyer motivation, check the video right there next to me. I think you'll love it. Continue to believe and I'll see you there.

And uh the filling yourself with the idea that I can't be happy unless something else happens or unless I get something else

is a is a form of insanity because you know what it is? It's a way of using your
