Ladies and gentlemen, brothers and sisters in Christ, today I want to share a message that may shake you, but not to scare you. It is a message meant to awaken the sleeping hearts and stir the lukewarm souls. The title of my message is why most Christians will miss the rapture. I do not say that lightly. I do not say it for attention, nor do I say it to create fear. I say it because scripture compels me to. And the truth is this. Most people will miss the rapture. I do not say this as a scare tactic, but because it is true and because I want to place it before your eyes in the brightest light.
Jesus said in Matthew 7:21, "Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven." That is a sobering reality. We are living in a time when Christianity is more cultural than Christ centered. We are surrounded by churches filled with people who sing the songs, quote the verses, even serve on committees, but their hearts are far from God. And when the trumpet sounds, when the shout of the archangel pierces the sky, many will be left behind, not because they weren't religious, but because they weren't redeemed.
In today's culture, it is all too easy to believe that simply identifying as a Christian is enough. We live in a world where saying a quick prayer, attending church a few times a year, or placing a Christian symbol on a car is equated with salvation. But scripture paints a very different picture. Jesus warned us, "Not everyone who says to me,"Lord, Lord," will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my father who is in heaven. That is not a verse to skim past. It is a divine warning. Many who believe they are safe will one day find out they were deceived, not by others, but by themselves.
One of the most dangerous lies in the church today is the idea that you can be saved without being changed. There are countless individuals who may have made a verbal profession of faith but never experienced a spiritual transformation. They confessed Jesus with their mouths but denied him with their lives. Their hearts were never surrendered. They never turned from sin. There was no repentance, no brokenness, no fruit of the spirit evident in their walk. They went through the motions but never encountered the master.
The Bible teaches that salvation is not merely a moment. It is a miracle. It is the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit in a person's heart that brings them from death to life. Being born again, as Jesus explained to Nicodemus in John 3, is not a religious phrase. It is a requirement for entering the kingdom of God. Yet, many have settled for an emotional experience instead of a genuine conversion. They may have repeated a prayer at the urging of a pastor or during a powerful moment at a youth camp, but there was no surrender, no true turning from self to the Savior.
Salvation is not about reciting the right words. It's about receiving the risen Christ. The sad reality is that many who think they are ready for the rapture are not. Their confidence is in a past event, a moment they prayed, walked an aisle, or joined a church, but not in a present relationship with Jesus. Salvation is not proven by a memory. It is evidenced by a transformed life. Jesus said, "You will know them by their fruits." Is there fruit in your life. Is there love for God, obedience to his word, and hunger for righteousness?
Or is your faith merely an empty confession? When the rapture occurs, it will not be the religious crowd that is taken. It will be the redeemed. It won't be those who said the right words. It will be those who lived under the lordship of Christ. That is why it is crucial to examine yourself as Paul urged. Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. This is not a call to live in fear, but it is a call to live in truth. There is still time to move from confession to conversion. There is still grace to be found at the foot of the cross.
But that window is closing. One day the trumpet will sound and those who are truly Christs will rise to meet him in the air. Sadly, many who thought they were ready will realize they never truly knew him. Don't let that be your story. Don't rest in a confession that has no transformation. Surrender your life today fully, completely, and without reservation. Because when that moment comes, only those who have truly been born again will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air. And nothing else. No status, no church membership, no past prayer will matter. Only Christ in you, the hope of glory.
We are living in a world that has mastered the art of distraction. From the moment we wake up to the moment we sleep, our minds are filled with noise, images, updates, and endless entertainment. The average believer today is more likely to check their social media feed before opening their Bible. More likely to spend hours watching television than a few moments in prayer. And the dangerous truth is this. Many Christians have allowed the things of this world to take priority over their relationship with Christ. That is one of the primary reasons many will miss the rapture.
Not because they didn't believe, but because they loved the world more than they loved the word. Paul described the last days as a time when people would be lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. That is not a description of the unbelieving world. It is a warning for those who once claimed to love God but traded that love for temporary thrills. This trade is happening right now. Christians are slowly drifting away from the anchor of scripture and embracing the waves of culture. The compromise is so subtle that many don't realize it's happening.
We watch what the world watches, laugh at what the world laughs at, chase what the world chases, and all the while our spiritual senses grow dull. We lose hunger for the word. We lose the urgency of prayer. We begin to assume grace means freedom to live however we want. But that's not grace. That's deception. Jesus warned us in Matthew 24 comparing the days before his return to the days of Noah. People were eating, drinking, marrying, living life without a single thought of judgment. They were distracted by pleasures, blind to the signs around them. And then suddenly the flood came. Only Noah and his family, those who prepared were saved.
The same will happen at the rapture. While many are busy with the world, the true followers of Christ will be taken in an instant. God doesn't forbid us from enjoying life. He gives us all things richly to enjoy. But he never intended for those things to replace him. When hobbies, careers, relationships, and pleasures become idols in our hearts, we have drifted. We were not made to worship creation but the creator. That is why Jesus said, "Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness." Those who seek the kingdom first are the ones who will be ready when the king returns.
The love of the world is a slow poison. It blinds us. It numbs us. It steals our eternal perspective. If we are not careful, it will cause us to miss the most important moment in history, the return of Jesus Christ for his church. Now is the time to examine where your affections lie. Now is the time to return to your first love. The rapture is not a fantasy. It is a future event that could happen at any moment. Only those who have kept their hearts anchored in Christ will be taken with him. Don't let the world steal your readiness.
Don't let entertainment, success, or comfort rob you of eternity. Fall in love with the word again. Walk closely with Jesus because when the trumpet sounds, it won't be the worldly Christian who goes. It will be the watchful one. One of the greatest tragedies of our time is that countless people sit in churches surrounded by the things of God yet remain disconnected from the heart of God. They sing, they serve, they attend, but they do not know him. They have embraced religion but missed relationship. That difference is not minor. It is eternal. When the rapture happens, it will not be the religious who are taken. It will be those who know Jesus personally.
Jesus addressed the church in Ladya, a church that looked strong on the outside but was empty within. They said, "I am rich. I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing." But Jesus said, "You do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked." That is the danger of religion without relationship. It gives a false sense of security, convincing people that activity equals intimacy. But God is not impressed by attendance, words, or knowledge. He desires a surrendered heart that walks daily with him. Many know the forms of religion but lack the fire of relationship. They can quote scripture but do not live it. They can pray eloquently in public but rarely in private. They behave well in church but live differently in secret.
That is not the kind of faith Jesus died for. He did not go to the cross to make us religious. He went to the cross to reconcile us to the father so we could walk with him, know him, and be transformed by him. When Jesus returns, he is not coming for a crowd. He is coming for a bride. And a bride knows her groom. She spends time with him. She longs for him. She prepares for his coming. That is the kind of relationship Christ is calling us to. It is not a checklist of duties. It is a living, breathing, growing connection with the Savior. Jesus illustrated this with the parable of the 10 virgins. All 10 were waiting for the bridegroom. All had lamps, but only five had oil, symbolic of the Holy Spirit and true intimacy with God. When the bridegroom arrived, the five foolish virgins realized too late that their preparation was external, not internal, and the door was shut.
Jesus ended the parable with a warning. Keep watch because you do not know the day or the hour. This is not meant to condemn but to call us to examine ourselves. Are we going through motions or do we truly know him? There is a difference between being religious and being redeemed. One depends on self effort, the other on Christ's finished work. One is about rules, the other about relationship. Now is the time to seek God daily, to spend time in his word, to pray, to listen, to be changed. Because when the skies split open, only those who belong to Jesus will be caught up. Don't settle for a faith that is empty of fire. Pursue Jesus, know him, love him, walk with him. In the end, it won't be religion that saves. It will be relationship. And when he comes, may he find you ready, watching, and fully his.
Jesus described the signs of his return. Wars, rumors of wars, famine, earthquakes deception lawlessness and love growing cold. These are not distant prophecies. They are unfolding before our eyes. Yet many remain indifferent, distracted, or skeptical. They risk everything by ignoring the signs. When Jesus came the first time, the religious leaders missed him because they expected a king, not a servant. They wanted power, not a savior. Their expectations blinded them. The same is happening today. Many are more focused on their comfort than on Christ's return.
Jesus warned, "Be careful or your hearts will be weighed down with carising, drunkenness, and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap." Notice, he warned not just against obvious sins, but also distractions and anxieties. It is not just immorality that causes people to miss the rapture. It is the preoccupation with temporary things. The signs are clear. Israel is back in its land. Global unrest is rising. Moral decay is celebrated. Spiritual deception is rampant. Technology advances point toward a world ready for the Antichrist system. We are not waiting for prophecy to be fulfilled. We are watching it unfold. Yet many live as if nothing is happening. Their hearts lulled to sleep by comfort. That spiritual slumber is deadly.
Jesus said he will come like a thief in the night at an hour no one expects. Only those who are awake and watching will be taken. The parable of the 10 virgins reminds us again. Five were ready, five were not. All were waiting, all had lamps, but only five were prepared. When the bridegroom came, the foolish begged for entry, but the door was shut. That story is not about unbelievers. It is about those in the church who thought they were ready but weren't. The time to prepare is not when the trumpet sounds. It is now. The time to wake up is today. We must return to prayer, to holiness, to God's word, to urgency.
Live as if Jesus could return at any moment because he can. If you have been distracted, it is time to repent and refocus. Don't let apathy steal your eternity. Don't let the illusion of normal life lull you to sleep. The king is coming. The signs are everywhere. The question is not whether he will return. The question is whether you will be ready when he does. Watch, pray, stay awake, and don't be left behind. Today is the day of salvation. This moment is your opportunity to wake up, to return to your first love, to cast off lukewarmness, and to embrace the fullness of Christ. The door of grace is still open, but it will not stay open forever. Like the foolish virgins, many will knock, but the door will be shut. I urge you, don't just believe in Jesus. Belong to him. Don't just call him Lord. Live like he is.
Don't just wait for the rapture. Be ready for it. When that trumpet sounds, make sure your heart responds not with fear, but with joy. Those who truly know him will not miss him when he comes. May we all be found faithful, ready, and watching. Amen.
