what's that a big chunk of ice called a cap just grip back from a big chunk of rock up north it's too cold up there even for the ice thousand years pass and some animals decided hey it can't really be that cold up here let's have a look and some people followed them and thought hey it's not that cold up here and so the rock was populated by people who hunted and gathered i wonder what we can call them they organized into simple tribes they also made crazy art on rocks and left relic so we know what they did once they got tired of chasing their food they started planting it instead one of the og tribes started hanging out with reindeer envious other tribes went underground looking for reindeer but what's that it's science and iron makes things easier easier farming more food more good vibes which means everyone wants to be your friend trading got popular tribes got wealthier more food more people more iron more
tools more weapons and they have awesome shields fast chips and pointy hats wait not pointy the most powerful tribe is called the sveya tribe they were so powerful even a historian all the way from the roman empire noticed and started writing about them which is why we know about them parts of the cold rock got a catchy name sphere land land of the stay it's there the name later evolved into an even catch your name sparia kingdom of the s s this i had men check weapons check ships check bad news for english peasants the vikings went all over and sought including america they also do lots of fighting and conquering but they were even more into trading the trading of slaves that is ever feel afraid of dying on raid fear not believe in one-eyed pirate dad goat guy with thunder mallet and many more for the cheap price of death in battle you'll end up in valhalla one day a man shows up talking about this new dance
all the cool kids down south are doing that's christianity the swedes think for a bit no they say a few years after that another guy shows up dressed the same this time the swedes take an even longer think no they say and so the christians are wondering how many guys are we supposed to send up there ding dong who's there asks the christians it's king olaf of sweden and he's converted christianity is now state religion there were old kings but this new king is the king of all the tribes so the first real king king of all the people who weren't christians are like what's this and the new king is like new religion it's fun and they're like ew and he's like convert please and they're like we don't want to and he's like well you have to and he tears down their temple after they were finished they looked around for more non-christians to the south of the danes they're christian to the west is norway also christian to the
east are the finns not christian so the new king leads a campaign to help spread the good word that is until he's murdered then his son becomes king and he builds a fortress here eventually after lots of fighting and crusading finland joins sweden and on that fortress they find lots of logs and lots of islands so they shove the words together around this time many farmers were using two fields one they planted and the other they left empty why are we doing that recycle the different crop types between the fields why are we doing that to avoid draining the soil from nutrients why are we doing that to make the props grow better why are we doing hey i've got an idea let's plant across three fields and they started planting across three fields this was a huge success and led to economic growth and surplus of food which meant more people were likely to survive in 1290 a king dies and leaves behind three brothers
they have lots of arguments because eric and voldemort are bored and haven't got enough to do and they eventually leave and then they come back and put their elder brother in jail but the kings of norway and denmark weren't happy to see another king imprisoned so they attacked this might happen again at some point then the three brothers make peace but at a family dinner eric says that burger can cook so burger puts his brothers in jail where they die but the nobles fancy rich people don't like this so they rebel and choose a new king but this king wasn't paying attention and after a lot of war and another disappointing king the fancy rich people said you've had enough of these kings so they call in a queen and her nephew is crowned king of sweden denmark and norway in a place called kalmar what do we call this agreement i don't know how about the union of kalmar good enough and even though they said
they were united sweden is like i still don't like you denmark and denmark is like well why don't you just choose your own king okay we will and they do and so even though they were meant to be a union sweden had its own king his nephew's son and the archbishop have a bit of an argument and a civil war breaks out from the south christian two of denmark is like hey i like the archbishop so he takes hostages including a guy called gustav vassa far down south in italy the pope eventually has a look up from his bible and notices what's happening hey what is this that's no good um you me yeah you go and stop that sure so christian goes to sweden with a big army of mercenaries and kills the king taking the throne for himself and christian promises to spare all the people who fought him before killing them unluckily for christian that guy he took hostage he leads a rebellion and takes back the throne and he thinks maybe i
don't want to be in a country with the same people who just murdered my friends so he breaks up the party gustav does quite a lot takes the church and makes it his takes the power and makes it his takes the bible and makes it his too by translating it to swedish when some people get angry he crushes them and makes sure that his son will be king after him after he dies sweden goes to war with denmark and then again man this keeps happening maybe things might be easier if a king came along who was also an amazing military leader that's lucky gustavus looks around and for once finds enemies slightly further south than denmark so he goes south with a big swedish fighting party his big protestant mustache proves too big and too hairy for the catholic forces at the battle of brainfield wow he's amazing and then he dies oh so his chancellor takes over and they have another war with denmark after the war is over all the big boys
of europe meet in west valley are to discover who gets what after sweden is given some bits of land here here here and here oh and here and here it doesn't last very long however and after a war with russia poland and of course denmark swedish lands are reduced to pretty much only sweden in finland tired of all the kings and wars the people in sweden decide hey let's make this the age of freedom so they restrict the power of the king and put all the power in the hands of the people in four very useful groups called the states they were the nobility the clergy the burgers and the farmers out of this came two parties both named after headgear the nightcaps were very careful and didn't want to provoke anyone the hats weren't and whilst they were in power they lost finland forbid and were really bad with the money so the king takes one look at this and goes man you guys aren't very good with
this whole freedom thing and he takes back control he tries to have a war with russia but is unsuccessful and gets shot at a dance party so sweden got a new king and he had noticed that some french people have got all up in arms about their freedom viva la france and is a bit scared of the whole guillotine so he joins with russia and britain against france he's hoping that they'll be very useful in keeping france away from sweden as that pesky napoleon guy has a tendency to conquer countries but britain is fighting napoleon in spain so they're busy sorry chops and russia just signed a treaty with france maybe one day we can have a revolution of our own so suddenly sweden is alone and when things couldn't get worse finland is lost to russia when they invade but one of them has an idea he says why don't we get one of napoleon's generals to be our king and his friends say why do we do that
oh okay and so they named him as the heir to the throne he takes the name charles john to sound more swedish and then charles john does a 180 degree anime betrayal against his old friend the foley and forms an alliance with russia sweden joins the war good timing napoleon is getting his butt whooped in russia and they also surprise surprise go to war with denmark denmark quickly surrenders that's the last war with denmark and the swedes think what can we do now that we're not fighting denmark how about we teach the kids and we build some tracks and trains and we take those four states and make a government and since we're not fighting anymore how about we share a currency you denmark us okay yeah whatever until finally the norwegians are like hey can we be our own country now yeah okay say the swedes but then what's that it's world war one sweden has a look at all the chaos and destruction and decides nope not for us
and so sweden remains neutral even when the germans come and ask pretty please they still say no the war meant demand for steel strong swedish steel and demand means production and production means prosperity and prosperity means social changes so women got the right to vote in this place here then what's that it's world war ii this time sweden is ready and says no no thank you not for us and so sweden remains neutral and this time the germans don't even ask pretty please but sweden is very happy to let german troops pass through especially when they saw what happened to countries that didn't during the war one of the great moments in swedish history happens peace in europe meant a new world and a new world meant a new sweden with money for the poor and the united nations and music and a prime minister gets assassinated nobody knows who did it and remember those sammy that have been here for 10 000 years well luckily the
government just remembered that too and eventually all of the countries of europe said yo sweden we've got a big grow fest happening want to join bro and in the 21st century sweden looks a bit like this and sounds a bit like this hey guys it's
