We're in North Minneapolis. We can see down the street now closer to the scene where the shooting happened

and there's quite a few number of federal officers standing around with police lights. I think they may be wearing night vision as it is a a dark somewhat dark corner especially where they are right now

as you can see the green lights and the red light down here cowards you've already done your

cowards [ __ ] you terrorist man I would be ashamed if I were one See, it's a two lines of officers in some in camo, some in what looks like street wear.

What's that? We have to deal with this [ __ ] over Oh, we have an officer aiming a

pepper pellet gun, I believe. [ __ ] at multiple people. Well, there's fireworks going off very close to the scene where all the police and federal officers are down the street where likely the the shooting happened and they're I guess still trying to get people out of a home.

I'm This is not the south side. This is not the south side. THIS IS THE NORTH SIDE. NO. NO. [ __ ] THAT. MY DAUGHTER LIVE HERE. My daughter over north and y'all going to back up and we are not going to [ __ ] them. They going to back up and we going to back the [ __ ] up.

I have a child. They need federal officers, uh, Border Patrol officers here seem to be unsure what to do here. Occasionally aiming their, uh, different weapons. They're going door

Yeah. One in the face and most of them were down at my legs. But what uh what do you know? Anything that uh else other than you know what's that? There's possibly there was a shooting down here. What happened?

It was that they shot I thought it was two people, but I don't know any more than that.

They're backing up right now. Ambulance. I saw the ambulance. [ __ ] you. Heading to the hospital when I was on my way here.

What is it uh what has it been like here on the scene? You you got shot. What What was happening at that time?

Uh I don't know. No, I didn't. I got I left my home in Robbinsdale after I found out that the shooting had happened.

Um, so what what brought you out here that uh you're immediately responding to this comm uh to this event?

Someone else texted me that their son had just uh heard that they shot someone.

That's their son. What made me leave my house to come down here? Yeah. Are you part of the the uh community groups that uh respond to

I'm not part of any particular group. I'm just really angry. I have grandchildren and children that live here.

What What has this been like seeing I mean we have federal troops on the ground. They're raiding people's homes. They're shooting people. What is What has it been like your your just kind of gut response from from seeing this? Well, like I told like like I told the uh

ICE people up there, this is the first time I've ever really felt hate. That's what it feels like.

Can you What do you mean by hate? I hate what they're doing. I hate them for doing it. I'm not a violent person, but If I were, I would I would be doing more than I'm doing.

What? There's been a there's been an incredible community response to There's been an incredible community response to these acts of violence against against your community. Has that given you kind of any hope for what's been happening or for what like what can happen in the future? What it has done more than anything is

drive a wedge between me and some of my family members. What do you mean by that?

I have a sister who voted for go for President Trump and I have a brother who voted for President Trump. Uh my brother has has recognized the error of his ways. Uh my sister has not.

How it's when when it's not just kind of like politics, you know, like we used to, you know, uh during, you know, like the Bush Clinton, you know, like kind of the Clinton year. Oh, we got fireworks going on. Get out of the area. Get back in.

Oh, I got hit in the head really bad. Oh [ __ ] Out of the blue, the police are moving forward.

Shooting, firing. I got hit in the head, man. Been shooting off munitions again. Not quite sure what I was hit in the head by. I was turned had my back stupidly to the federal officers. So I believe it was something that they threw or fired.

She was afraid that she was going to go into labor and so she was the community gathered to try and protect her and by the time we got here I mean I was 8 minutes away and the Minneapolis Police Department had I don't know the whole I mean it was completely taped off. We couldn't get through. um heard a shot, heard some flashbangs. People were trying to figure out what was going on.

Um some ambulance ambulances went in. I don't think she was injured and I think she had a child with her, but I heard someone got shot in the leg. It's like what is going on?

What I mean this is this is I mean all they all they would have to do is go. We they don't have to be here and we would go home. I want to go home. It's kind of cold out. What I mean this has been going on like it's a constant drum beat. We we we've been chasing uh around these officers all day and they would randomly stop uh harass somebody, pull somebody out of car, leave the car empty. Um what is this like in your in your community happening on a daily basis?

Um I have neighbors who I haven't seen outside their house. I I've you know left them letters and say, "Hey, if you need something, please text me." Um, I've joined uh some community members with packing up food for one of the local churches and they do deliveries on Monday, Wednesday, Fridays. DH DHH Church on Cedar if you want to volunteer or donate money. And then also North Side Blessing, they're also collecting food and supplies and are going to deliver to people in the community. I think that it's it's I mean I I I there's uh you know munitions fired at us, bearcats run through a crowd and

I have a whistle and and you and you have a whistle and you have a whistle. I have a whistle and my like screeching voice

and and a very I'm sorry very light-hearted attitude at what just happened. 56 years old and I've never had flashbangs and tear gas put at me and I'm happy to take it so that my neighbors don't have to. You were saying that people aren't coming out of their homes. People aren't going. We We just left a restaurant.

Schools. Schools in the N, you know, schools have been closing down in Minneapolis. I was down on like Central and Henipin. That's a really big like food area. My favorite restaurants, they're all closed. You know, no one wants to put their employees in danger or, you know, the neighborhoods in danger. It's like, [ __ ]

But do you have I mean, like there is this immediate response. you showed up, there's always dozens of people at every just when when a person's pulled out of a car uh on a random street corner within by the time the person is out of the car, there's 10 people out on the street. What has that been like? Is there is there like a hope amongst community? Um, I don't know if there's hope. There's solidarity. And hopefully with the solidarity and us building more and more community and seeing that we're stronger together, um that fascism will maybe go away for right?

The the president has uh called members of the Somali community names that I won't talk about. Um they she uh he's called in in uh in not tweets anymore, truth social messages. He's uh called for a great retribution against basically the people of Minneapolis. What what do you think that like the president has out for your city in particular, not just Minnesota, but your city?

I mean, he has a long history of racism. I think in the 70s and 80s, him and his father were sued and found guilty of discrimination, housing discrimination. So he's just he's just a horrible racist, a pedophile, a rapist, a thief. So I mean, what else can I say about you?

Do you do you hope that uh you know maybe in the next two years or next year or this year like we can turn things around? um the way the establishment like establishment dems are right now. No, we need to go like collectively far left and socialism to get past this cuz just just voting in Dems and nothing changing is just going to bring back this even worse in 28. the the mayor mayor Fry has has come out and said that he uh uh is not would not call for an abolishment of ICE.

Um, and basically it's a a a rounded piece of plastic that goes underneath a baseball cap and uh it basically just b it just protects your head enough uh that in a situation like just happened to me uh I would have barely I would have felt like a little uh a little you know little bump against my head and uh it it's very specifically protects the back of your head which is where I got hit and is one of the most dangerous places you can get hit. Um

you goggles on Yes. You go, man. Yeah. Yeah. It uh one of the best things about a bump cap uh for doing can do Zach Roberts's uh little pieces of protest advice that he doesn't actually follow himself. Um um it is uh 15 20 buck piece of plastic that goes underneath a baseball cap. And the biggest thing is it doesn't actually show that you're wearing a protection like a helmet would in my experience um often if you're wearing a helmet or a gas mask and that sort of thing. Um law enforcement officers uh end up using your helmet as a target piece and uh and uh because you stand out in a crowd a bit. Um and so I highly recommend uh picking up a bump cap. Uh, and this of course has not been an a specific endorsement other than making sure that you stay safe when you're out in the streets. Again, unlike me.

Uh, I know I'm not shouldn't make make light of this, but uh, moments like this, it's it's it's tough to uh to not Yep. We're going to go back out. Yep.

What What um what do you think that uh the president is directing these guys uh to come to your town? What what what does he have out for for Minneapolis? Oh for

Um, Governor Tim Waltz on Wednesday night sharply criticized the federal government's uh, law enforcement presence in Minnesota, saying it is no longer about immigration enforcement, but has become a quote campaign of organized brutality. Quote, "They're pulling over people indiscriminately, including US citizens, and demanding to see their papers at a grocery at grocery stores, bus stops, and even our schools." Walt said they're breaking windows, dragging pregnant women down the street, just plain grabbing motans and shoving them into marked vans.

So far, as as far as we've heard, there has been no call to by the governor to call out the National Guard, to use state troopers, to use any any of his powers to actually protect his citizenry against the violence that the federal government is committing. Meanwhile, the president has declared that he will be cutting massive federal funding to states. Many states across the country, but especially Minnesota was named

before, that's a good time. Uh NBC News has a update on uh the shooting that we're on. We're physically on the ground covering the response to and again this is according to DHS. I want to be want to be clear that it is it is according to the government, not according to uh proper journalism. A federal officer shot a Venezuelan man this evening in Minneapolis after the Department of Homeland Security described as as as an ambush. The agency said the officer has been conduct officer had been conducting a targeted traffic stop at 6:50 p.m. local time when the man left in a vehicle which crashed into a parked car and then ran away. The department said in a statement as the officer pursued the man who the department said was in the country illegally, he assaulted the officer.

According to the statement, again, according to the government, the DHS, during the struggle, two people came out of an apartment and attacked the officer with snow shovel and a broom handle. According to the statement, the man got loose and also began attacking the officer with a shovel or a broomstick. The department, the Homeland Security Department said, fearing for his life and safety. As he was being ambushed by three individuals, the officer fired defensive shots to defend his life. Whoa. We got pepper pellets moving this way. This way.

All around us, far into the crowd. Whoa. Watch out for the car here, John. Yep. Watch out for the car, though.

we are still here. That shooting behind the crowd does not make any sense. Local law enforcement is on the scene blocking off the street.

So, what um what was your what's your response been like tonight? Uh tonight has been crazy, man. I heard the news that uh two Latinos were shot by ICE um in the leg. First I heard they were killed. Uh everybody went crazy. Um then I heard they got shot in the leg. And now since I've been down here, man, it's just been tear gas and and [ __ ] uh flashbangs. And I keep telling people there's kids in these houses right now. Some of these kids got to go to school, wake up and go to school tomorrow. Um and and it looks like Call of Duty outside. It's [ __ ] crazy.

What is this? What is this like in in the middle of uh just a suburban area here?

Oh, no. We're in the hood. Hood. Yeah, we in the hood. This nice houses. Yeah. Yeah. This is, you know, this is the this the north side of Minneapolis. This is the heart of heart of the city, man. Um there's a lot of poverty down here, man. But uh we're trying to re re regrow this community, but this [ __ ] is not helping at all.

Now, they I mean, they have not been hitting, you know, the the uh the wealthy suburbs and that sort of thing. Do you think there's a reason they're targeting these these areas?

Most definitely cuz they can get away with it down here. You know, they they did George Floyd over south over south Minneapolis and they they think they can get away, but uh North Minneapolis is strong. We're not over south. We're not in St. Paul. This is North Minneapolis. I mean, there is there is a note that I mean, the fact that Renee Good was shot just blocks away from where George Floyd was murdered.

Yeah. Yeah. Uh it's tragic, man. It's tragic. It's almost like we're in a a [ __ ] movie, man. That's what it feels like. I was there for the protest, but George Floyd when Dante Wright got killed right after George Floyd, man. And it just feels like a revolving cycle, like we're in the [ __ ] matrix, man.

The the mayor's uh I'm not quite sure if it's right now or but soon having a press conference about what happened tonight. Would would you have any questions for him?

Get [ __ ] ice out of the city, man. That's it. Get them out. We did see the I mean the the there was local uh Minneapolis police and state troopers on the ground here. Uh both both of the both the governor and the mayor have have uh come out continually and said that they want people out and that they they would do things, but directing their police forces seem to be not one of them. No,

if you got to say something, you got to follow through with it. Simple as that. You can't keep these people at ease. You know, the the community is ready to fight back and and you can see that tonight. We're ready to fight back. We're here to protect our kids. We're here to protect our community and that's what we're doing.

What What is it like seeing so many people turn out so quickly? It's amazing, man. It's amazing. Like I said, when George Floyd happened, man, the whole city came up. People from Wisconsin, Chicago, all over the city. So, you know, we have numbers here. We're all peaceful, but when they start shooting uh [ __ ] tear gas and canisters when everybody peaceful, there's only so much people can do.

I know you been out here about 3 hours now on the ground after a yet another shooting by federal officers in Minneapolis. Hundreds of rounds of or thou probably thou tens of thousands of pel pepper pellets have been released at very much mostly peaceful crowds.

Shaking your head at me wrong. I have papers he wants to see. We raided an ICE vehicle and I have full lists of names and phone numbers of agents and I know what hotel they're staying at. I have paperwork. I need to give it to press.

The original vehicles here during the shooting, they got left behind. people rated them and we rated the cars and I found paperwork that shows where their booking houses are, where their hotels are. I've got names and emails, judges names, judges phone numbers.

For sure. For sure. We've been trying to find it for like 20 minutes and it's subscribers only. And I just subscribe for 20 minutes. I can't find it.

Oh. up here. Isn't that just dropped another canister? They're just now currently launching gas canisters into mostly empty roads.

Oh, one has rolled pretty close to us. people now picking up the gas canisters and throwing them back towards border patrol lines.

Um I tried to uh guard myself by holding there was a straight TV laying around here and I was just like I'm going to use that as a shield and the guy's like, "Oh, YOU WANT TO BE SMART RIGHT INTO MY THIGH." What What brings you out? What what what inspired you to come out here in in this sort of violence that's happening?

This is my home. The fact that I had to watch not only the people that are supposed to protect and serve our people fail us on multiple accounts,

the fact that it happened so many times in such a short span, even with the context of George Floyd back in 2020, like it it's not it's not tolerated. This is too [ __ ] much. There needs to be a change and I shouldn't have to constantly be looking over my back 247 just to live my life. How am I supposed to be able to feel comfortable in my own skin when I have to go home and talk to my seven-year-old, sorry, 9-year-old little brother and tell him that he has to be mentally prepared for [ __ ] like this in the future?

I don't want to do that. And I'm willing to take the sacrifice and stand ground to make sure that he doesn't have to live the same same uh same days as I do.

Like it that's all it is by the end of the day. So I hope by the end of this we leave with like we we make a change for the better. Not not just for our current selves, but for generations in in the future because this is this is this is dumb. It's too much, right? And now that people innocent lives, even more innocent lives are being lost because of stupid [ __ ] like this. It's it's no I it's it's over with, right?

Well, stay safe, please. Like, and get make sure you get some medical attention if you get if you have to.

I'll tell you it'll be fine. I don't I'm not bleeding. I know that for a fact. So, so I'll I'll just probably knock out, you know, I hit the gym before this, too. So, I'm just going to be like, "Oh, it's probably just me."

Also, I think you might have some pepper pellets some other places, so I would uh make sure when you get into a vehicle or anything like that. I thought I thought like on your edges of your arms or something like that. So, just be careful.

I there was kind of there was a fire truck coming into the zone and the police were like talking to these people in their house and their yard. So I went over there and there was a SUV with all the airbags deployed. And for a moment I thought maybe it was like the vehicle in the supposed chase with ice. Uh but then this man came out and he said that it was his car and I asked him what happened and he said that he had uh he lived on the street corner in the zone

and he went out to talk to Border Patrol or DHS or whoever and asked them if they could leave. He wanted to bring his family out of the zone

and he got they said that was fine and he got everyone in the car and he said that he like put it in drive and they started throwing flashbangs and tear gas under their vehicle and he had his three kids in the car and a six-month-old um who stopped breathing

and uh they brought EMS in to to tend to the the baby. Um but I I talked to him directly. I like have it on video.

We've uh witnesses witnessed a handful of interactions between uh trying not to use police language uh arrests um that have uh people have been pulled out of the car by by federal officers taken uh from their families and their homes. And uh for the last couple hours now, we've been um on the streets uh covering uh getting hit with uh uh items in our head, being tear gas, being pepper balls. Um and sorry,

I was just telling you to stay. Okay. And uh it's been a very long night. We we have heard of a family who was uh pulled out of their home. Man was uh a young man was shot. Um a just

Yeah. and got it. And uh the the community responded in in huge numbers and uh the uh federal uh federal officers responded with uh massive violence um shooting uh flashbangs uh using pepper spray, pepper pellets, basically everything in their arsenal. tear gas and uh continually ritualistically attacking um by far mostly peaceful protesters who were just their only crime would have been out in the street and uh yelling at them and calling them names and in in response the federal officers gave them an incredible large incredibly amount large amount of violence. Um, we've witnessed multiple people um, injured. Um, many people pepper- sprrayed directly point blank in the face. And I'm not quite sure what else has come what what come came of that. Um, other than just letting people voice what they what they need to say. They kept moving them back, committing randomly rushing the crowd and just then

backing away. So nothing really came of it other than and then finally they left with uh you know tear gas and flashbangs um like the way they came and um
