What this episode is about
Donald Trump's proposed Board of Peace, presented as a diplomatic initiative, is actually a private organization aimed at undermining the United Nations and consolidating power under Trump's control. Unlike the intended temporary administrative body defined in UN resolution 2803 for Gaza, Trump's version lacks any humanitarian focus and instead fosters a framework for global authority that prioritizes profit and authoritarianism.
Key takeaways

Donald Trump's proposed Board of Peace is being presented as a bold diplomatic innovation. But the structure, intent, and implications of the body point to something far more dangerous. What is taking shape is not a peace mechanism, but a private system of global authority designed to weaken the United Nations, reward authoritarianism, monetize international legitimacy, and concentrate unprecedented power in the hands of one man. and ultimately his family. It is not an exaggeration to say that this project threatens the foundation of the post-war world order.
The pretext for Trump's fake board of peace lies in United Nations Security Council resolution 2803 adopted in November 2025 to implement a ceasefire and reconstruction framework for Gaza. That resolution authorized a narrowly defined temporary administrative body with a specific mandate, coordinate funding and reconstruction until the Palestinian Authority could resume control. It was explicitly transitional, explicitly limited in scope, and explicitly grounded in international law. It was never intended to create a permanent institution, let alone a global one for profit. What Donald Trump produced in response bears little resemblance to that mandate. Instead of a UN linked mechanism, Trump's lawyers drafted a new private treaty-based international organization with its own legal personality deliberately separated from the United Nations, the US government, and any system of democratic
accountability. Although it borrows the name Board of Peace and even mimics the UN's globe and laurel iconography rendered in gold with a distinctly Trumpian emphasis on North America. The charter does not mention Gaza at all. The humanitarian justification disappears entirely. What remains is a framework for permanent global power
and many countries have just received their notice and everybody wants to be a part of it and now we have one of the most important meetings of all the official formation of what is known as the board of peace.
At the center of this structure is Donald Trump himself. Not the presidency, not the United States, but Trump as an individual. The draft charter names him personally as chairman with no term limit and no mechanism for removal. All decisions are subject to his approval. Even if member states vote unanimously, their decision carries no force unless Trump allows it. He alone determines who may join, who may remain, and who is expelled. He controls the finances. He decides whether the organization continues to exist. Most alarmingly, he alone chooses his successor, openly contemplating the transfer of authority to his son, Donald Trump Jr. or another chosen heir. This is not a flaw in the design. It is the design. The implications are staggering.
The Board of Peace is structured to outlive elections, constitutions, and even the American presidency itself. Even if Trump were overwhelmingly rejected by voters, the board would persist above the state, still under his control or that of his successor. A future democratically elected US president could find themselves constrained, pressured, or extorted by a private Trump-led entity claiming international authority. Under the proposed rules, even the United States could be expelled unless it pays and complies. the presidency becomes subordinate to a structure created by one man for his own benefit.
Once this board is completely formed, we can do pretty much whatever we want to do and we'll do it in conjunction with the United Nations. You know, I've always said the United Nations has got tremendous potential, has not used it.
The financial architecture makes the danger even clearer. Permanent membership reportedly requires a $1 billion entrance fee paid into a system controlled by the chairman. Membership can be revoked at his discretion even after payment with no appeal and no recourse. This is not how treaties work. This is not how legitimate international organizations operate. It is legalized bribery masquerading as governance. Pay to stay in good standing. Pay again to avoid expulsion. pay to be heard.
We have 59 countries that are involved in peace in the Middle East. Many of them not in the Middle East. They're near the Middle East, but they're not in the Middle East. And many have said that if Hamas doesn't do what they promised they would do, and I think they probably will, but they were born with rifles in their hands. You know, they literally born the first day they had a rifle put into their hands. But they have to give up their weapons. And if they don't do that, uh, it's going to be the end of them. But many countries have told me, we we want to go in and do it. And they really aren't countries that you traditionally think of as being involved.
This model inevitably advantages authoritarian regimes. Dictatorships can move money quickly, suppress disscent, and align policy with the preferences of a single powerful figure. Democracies cannot. Parliamentary approval, judicial review, transparency laws, and public accountability become liabilities in a loyalty-based system. The result is a global order that systematically rewards repression and punishes the rule of law. The list of governments eager to participate underscores this reality. Early supporters include states with long records of authoritarian governance, corruption, or human rights abuses. Hungary's Victor Orban quickly accepted the invitation. Others include Gulf monarchies, Central Asian autocracies, and governments whose leaders face serious international legal scrutiny. Meanwhile, the conspicuous absence tell their own story. The United Kingdom and most European Union
democracies have refused to join, citing deep concerns about legality, accountability, and the deliberate attempt to undermine multilateral institutions such as the UN. They recognize what is at stake. Once international law becomes optional, it stops protecting anyone. This is how the United Nations is hollowed out without formally abolishing it. Parallel authority replaces collective authority. States defect not because the UN is dissolved, but because allegiance to a private board promises protection, favor, or immunity. Trump himself has suggested that the Board of Peace might replace the UN, dismissing the organization as ineffective and boasting that he never bothered consulting it. That is not reform. It is displacement. It is the substitution of law with loyalty.
International law rests on the principle that sovereign states are equal and bound by rules they collectively agree to. The board of peace rejects that premise outright. States are no longer equal actors. They are clients. Decisions are not binding because of law, but because the chairman permits them.
On the eight wars that I ended, I never spoke to the United Nations about any of them. [snorts] And you would think that I should have. You would think they could have done those eight wars, but they couldn't have. And they tried, I guess, and some of them, but they didn't try hard enough.
The proposal is an assault on the international order that subordinates state decision-making to the personal jurisdiction of the Trump family.
You know, something very, very unique for the world. It's for the world. This isn't United States. This is for the world.
The danger extends beyond institutions to norms. The Board of Peace normalizes the idea that power need not be accountable to voters, that wealth can replace legitimacy, that hereditary succession is acceptable if dressed up as stability. Together, we are are in a position to have an incredible chance, I don't even call it a chance. I think it's going to happen to end decades of suffering, stop generations of hatred and bloodshed, and forge a beautiful, everlasting, and glorious peace for that region and for the whole region of the world because I'm calling the world a region. The world is a region.
We're going to have peace in the world. And boy, would that be a great legacy for all of us. Everybody in this room is a star or you wouldn't be here. There's a reason that you're here. and you're all stars. You're the biggest people, the most important people in the world, most powerful people in the world.
Trump repeatedly uses authoritarian language, joking and then half joking about dictatorship. The board of peace is the infrastructure required to make such dictatorial impulses permanent. Once democratic norms are abandoned at the global level, they don't magically reassert themselves. For Palestinians, whose suffering was the supposed justification for this entire exercise, the consequences are grim. Despite the board's origin story, Palestinians reportedly relegated to marginal advisory roles, while real decisions are made by foreign elites and political appointees. Their rights become an afterthought in a larger struggle for power and prestige. Peace becomes branding. Reconstruction becomes leverage.
This is not a peace project. It is a permanence project. It's about ensuring that Trump's power does not end with his presidency. That it survives elections, accountability, and law. It's about replacing a rules-based international system with a personal one. And teaching future strongmen that institutions exist to be captured, not respected. If this scam succeeds even partially, the consequences will not be limited to Trump. It will set a precedent that future demagogues will eagerly follow. Why submit to international law when private power is easier? Why accept constraints when loyalty is rewarded?
The lesson once learned cannot be unlearned. That is why democracies are alarmed. That is why scholars are sounding the alarm. This is why this can't be dismissed as another Trump provocation or ego project. The Board of Peace is a direct threat to democratic governance worldwide. It replaces rules with rulers, law with inheritance, and peace with payment. If allowed to stand, it will not bring the proposed stability or peace. It will accelerate the collapse of the very system designed to prevent global chaos. I'm Anthony Davis.
