I'm in Soul, South Korea right now, and this is easily one of the most futuristic cities in the world. I mean, just look at the shopping center, sir. Let's buy the craziest tech we can find and then test it to find out does Korea put the West to shame. This is my buddy Keith. He's going to give us the local lowdown. Hey. Hey. All right, let's go. Is that the entire vacuum cleaner? What? Never in my life have I seen a vacuum cleaner like this. Typical Dyson vacuum, which is already pretty slick, and then the pencil vac. At first they launched it in Japan and Korea only. In the states they use more carpets so they need stronger vacuums. Enough said.
Let's buy. There's a litter robot. Korea has the biggest pet industry I believe due to the low birth rate. So people instead of kids are having pets. So then they have a lot of money to spend on those pets.
Exactly. So the cat just kind of like gets in like that. And then I've seen something interesting. Oh, I thought it said boyfriend mini. Although body friend mini isn't a lot better. This looks like a pretty serious bit of kit. I've never seen massager in a form factor like this.
You sit on it. What? Sorry. You sit, then you put your feet on it. So, it's designed just for feet.
Anything. Anything that is for your scalp. Ooh, I love a scalp massage. Oh, wow.
What the hell? I'm quite scared of it. It's just not the way I thought it would move.
Koreans love massage. And growing up, one of the things that we do for our parents is like massage them. It became such a luxury thing that you gift your parents.
I have a feeling this could be an expensive video. I keep seeing this Medicube brand all over the place. Pretty sus looking device. What am I looking at? It's
a machine that massages your face. Ah, does it actually hurt? It's electrocuting.
Oh my goodness. But this is only level one. There's level five as well. So 5 minutes a day. You electrocute yourself,
but it gets rid of your wrinkles. Well, I know. Let's get one of these. This is such cool gamification of shopping. If I can stop it at exactly 65, I win the product free. a school. No way. It's actually one of the very few countries where we just feel like we can leave our stuff there completely unattended and carry on shopping. One absolutely insane thing I've noticed about Korea, I've been here for 7 days. My phone has not even dropped 5G once. But also, I'm on the subway Wi-Fi. Look at this. That is absolutely bonkers. This is the free public Wi-Fi. This is a product I've had my eyes on since CES. It's called the LG Mood Mate. And because Korea is the home of LG, this is the only country you can buy it in. So, it's a projector, it's a speaker, and it's mood lighting. I've never seen that combo. So, I've just found out Korea has its own maps app. They don't use much Google here, but it shows you in real
time where each of the trains are on their track. And then because you have perfect Wi-Fi while you're sitting here, you will be able to see in real time your train approaching. Convenient.
I don't think I've ever seen a street like this in my life. The lights, the size of the buildings. Hello. Wa. And then the main reason we're here is South Korea is the home of Samsung. So this is basically the Samsung flagship store of the world. I absolutely love their customization here. So, these must be different flipsuit cases that will also interact with the front of the phone. Would you rock this?
I would rock that. Yeah. So, that's Keith's case. Let's see what Keith's wallpaper is going to look like.
Oh, fire. That's a monstrosity. These are earphone cases, right? But they're selling Almond Breeze earphone cases in the official flagship Samsung store of the world. Doesn't this look 100% like an AliExpress $2 product? The shutter sounds are on on every single phone we've tested.
Korea has a hidden chem problem. People will secretly film you. That's why there's the sound. You cannot turn it off.
That's insane. We're here. This Electromark. This is tech paradise specifically designed around Gen Z who has no concentration span. Having your own video game playing at the entrance to your store is such a flex. This is amazing. There's so many colors pulling me in every single direction. And I don't even know where to start. Wait, they got a keyboard here where you can't see the letters at all from the top, but then you can see the letters from your seating position. It's so minimal. Okay, so this is the company's flagship keyboard. It's about $100, which is not bad at all. I'm so curious how this stacks up. I don't think I've ever seen a density of interesting tech products this high. Oh yeah, you know, we're in Korea now. Look at this. Cacao is like WhatsApp, but they have characters. Your messaging app has its own character.
This store has its own character. Yeah, Characters are huge here. People love cute stuff. Wireless earphones where the face moves. How does that even work?
All of this stuff is secured. This is the stuff that gets stolen. Yeah, you're right. There's a full arcade. Are you serious?
23. A Can you get like a close-up shot of my score versus hers? Yeah, that's nice. Pretty cool way to get people into your shop. There's an LG section here. I've never seen that before. So, this controls lighting, temperature, humidity. so that you can grow plants, which makes sense because no one has gardens here. Everyone lives in apartments. What the hell is going on here? So, they're saying there's one of these in the world, and I've just realized all these stickers are applied by hand, and the whole thing is built by hand. I'm so curious how it sounds. Is it a working suitcase, too? Why is the thing like 400 kilos? Ooh, I'd actually argue this one looks a little more tasteful. I mean, it's still not great.
Why do all these products look so beaten up? Do they make it and then punch it on the way out of the factory? Off we go.
I don't think anyone has ever bought the speaker before, so we were the first one. They're trying to figure out how we can actually buy it and take it home. They were like, "Just take the speaker." And I'm like, "But there should be other things that comes with it."
That's hilarious. It's a bottle opener, but also a Bluetooth speaker. What is that? AI scan talk. I've gone around the whole box, and I still have no idea what it does. Only one way to find out. There's something here that I've never seen before. All these massive brands, Brawn, Logitech, Phillips doing lucky boxes. You don't know which of these shavers you're going to get. This is literally a lottery system. There's the least number of the most expensive ones. It's definitely one of the weird and wonderful things about Korea that we have to try.
Okay, last stop. And this could be the coolest. This is Latte Highart, the biggest electronics retailer in the whole of South Korea. Let's go. No way. That is so cool. It lights up on the ground itself presumably so that if you're walking with your head down looking at your phone, you still know whether it's good to go. Then it turns red when you can't cross. Let's see if this can top electromot. Why is this so large? Oh, this is not a real product.
I just cut that. God, that is pretty ugly. It's like a belt buckle. It actually pair really well with your Virtue smartphone. Wow. As far as robots go, incredibly quiet, smooth, and slick. I love that the user interface is really cleanly embedded into like the head of the bot. Oh, is that a Balmuda equivalent? The Balmuda is literally my favorite toaster of all time, but the thing's over $300. I think it does the same thing, but it's $70. I think we have ourselves a showdown. So, I just came to the convenience store to get a sandwich. Look at this. Noodles of every single spice level. This is absolutely a mistake, but let's go extreme. So, you stick your noodles into this pot. This machine then scans the barcode and knows how much water to put in and then how long to cook it for. So, then you grab things that you want to put into the noodles from the convenience store and then just drop them in.
It's actually eatable and like delicious. I get the feeling that Korean spice tolerance is not as extreme as the Indian that I'm used to. I've just found a Korean company who makes a band that you can wear around your head that's meant to calm down your over stimulated brain so that you can sleep by buying it right now cuz that could actually be my dream tech product. So, that is just under $3,000 spent, but we got a lot of tech for that. So, let's test it in this absolutely gorgeous Hanok, a traditional Korean house built with natural materials like wood, earth, and stone to find out just how good do Koreans have it. Also, can't wait to see if we won big with our lucky box. Let's kick things off with the scalp massager because I did not realize this when I was buying it. I actually spent $130 on this thing. So, I'm fairly eager to find out if I got my money's worth or not.
Oh my god. It just gets right into the skin of your scalp while being fairly respectful of your hair. Actually, you should probably be the judge of that. Do my Does my hair look okay?
What's that? It looks great. And I can start to see why this costs so much. Cuz it's the bristles which stimulate your scalp surface. It's got dual red and infrared lights here which get a little deeper to encourage more blood flow to your scalp. It's IPX7 water resistant so you can use it in the shower which actually makes a lot of sense. I kept thinking it looks like a repurposed shower head. And then I didn't even clock this before. But this section here lets you put treatment oil in which they also provided. This one says it can reduce hair loss by 60%. and it will be slowly dispensed onto your scalp via the eight rollers also on the massager. Oh my god, this is the carrying pouch that is so unbelievably soft. Seriously, Korea, this is incredible. This product is like a perfect 10. Now I'm curious if the company's plate massager can surpass expectations in the same way.
Oh, there's actually quite a few more bits in this box than I anticipated. So, this is how we saw the thing in the store. Oh, that really is just a better version of a normal massage gun. What can I say? Two heads equals twice the fun. The website says, well, I have absolutely no idea to be honest. So, this feels like as good a time as any to bring in our AI scan talk cuz turns out this is a completely offline AI smart translator. So, you just hold it at a 70 to 90° angle and swipe it across the surface you're trying to read.
And it's saying this massager is for my wife tired of parenting. God, poor wife. I didn't think I'd like this in an era of Google Translate, but it is impressively fast at translating. And I really like that it just straight away reads out the translation. Is it better than just Google Translate though?
To my wife who is tired from raising children. If anything, that makes a bit more sense. Plus, it translates the entire page in one photo. I do like though the fact that it has this tap to translate button. So, you push that in, say what you want to say, and when you let go, it pretty much instantly translates it.
Okay, it's not bad. That is slightly quicker than doing it on your phone, but then you got the whole extra hassle of having to charge and carry around this thing. This massager, I had absolutely no idea it was going to come with all of these different plates for different parts of your body. So, this is the flat plate designed to massage your waist. Oh, am I doing this right? I can't say I've ever massaged my waist before. I don't hate it. There's the cupping plate to massage both of your arms, calves, or thighs at the same time. Oh, yeah. That is good.
Oh, it fits like a glove around your body. Wonder if we can just rest our arms on it like that.
Oh yeah. I don't even know what muscle it's relaxing right now, but it feels amazing. But the craziest one is they even have an acupressure head for your feet. So massager goes on the floor. And they've even given us the vibration absorbing mat to place it on. Oh, that's actually the best one yet. Like this after a long day of walking would be We can't even take most of this stuff back with us. So later this video, let's find a nice Korean person to just give it all away to. And they will be getting the package of a lifetime. Now, while I'm in the process of getting pampered, we might as well deage myself, too, by adding the Medicube booster pro into the mix. And of course, because it's Korea, the one we got is themed after a manga called Crayon Shinjan. So, it starts with sticker sheets.
Then you got this. It looks like a nappy, but it's actually a hair band to keep the hair off your face. Then the themed cap that goes on top of your booster, followed by I think this is just a minifigure for the sake of a minifigure. And then this box has the device itself inside. As with everything else in this country, the extent they go to with the theming, this is just unmatched. Now, I thought based on my extreme top 1% performance on that reaction test that I had just won the product itself for free. What I actually won is one day's worth of salmon egg extract serum with high purity salmon.
Oh, that's very nice and pink. She smells flowery. Just level one of this thing nearly took me out in the store. So, the goal now is level five on my face. This is just ridiculous. The bootup sequence is themed. Even the intensity slider is themed after this crayon Shinchan manga.
Level three. Level four. Level five. Oh, I don't like the way it says level five. Oh god. Oh god. Ah. Oh, that's fine. That's fine. That's fine. Yeah. Yeah. It comes and goes in waves, but goodness me. I'm so scared right now. I mean, don't get me wrong, the benefits of this are meant to be insane. Like, it stimulates your facial muscles to reduce wrinkles. Makes your skin more permeable, so your egg salmon extract is more effective. It can shrink your pores and it probably defibrillates someone as well while you're at it. But one thing I have realized while I've been here is Koreans are willing to do a lot for their skin. I actually went to a skin analysis clinic. They gave me a 32 out of 100 and then recommended a sevenstep skincare regimen that would genuinely take me an extra 30 minutes of my time per day just to execute. So you can completely see how this product is massive in this country and I would love
to try and integrate it in my own life too. So, I'm going to give it an optimistic eight. But I can also see how adding 10 minutes per day of high voltage voluntary electrocution to your evening routine is not going to be for everyone. So, I massaged and mildly charged. All I need now is some refreshments. So, for our drink, here's the bottle opener from that really weird speaker company, Boom Master. Thing's absolutely tiny. I like the little carabiner that you can latch onto it. And it's USBC charging, too. They made this thing so easy to just keep with you all times. Is it a good bottle opener?
Kind of. The shape doesn't give you a massive amount of leverage. So, is it a good speaker? Wow. Wait, that's amazing. I thought this would be so bad. It's like $15 and made by a beer company. But wow. If Boom Master can do that with a speaker this tiny, what are they going to do with that? enormous suitcase. And now for a bite to eat, we got our cuckoo toaster. The potential to beat the Balmuda toaster at its own game for a quarter of the price is very tantalizing. So here's my Balmuda. This is the Kaku. And it's a little bit cuckoo. Just how closely this has copied the Balmuda. So, just like the Balmuda where you use this tiny, adorable little mug to add a bit of water into the top here, with the Kaku, you just instead fill this miniature jug on the inside. So, bread goes inside. The idea being that the water we've just placed inside these machines will become steam and coat the outside of that bread. And because those
water droplets will heat up faster than the air, the outside will crisp up while keeping the inside soft and fluffy. So, start. Love this knob. And then on the cocoon, sadly quite a lot less satisfying. They're both getting very steamy. So, while they cook, let's have a look at our earphones. I still find it so strange that this country's WhatsApp equivalent, Cacao Talk, is out here making earphones with a swappable face on them. But it's kind of refreshing, too. It really feels like people in this country are not afraid to love cute things. It's not seen as childlike. This is the second product we've tested that connects up to your bag. There's a real thing here about people picking mascots and symbols as a way to broadcast their identity. So, you swipe to pick your emotion. It is slicker than I thought it would be, just not the most practical cuz you might have to swipe multiple times to get to your earphones or the
charging port. It's actually pretty unusual that that's inside. And they sound pretty much exactly what you'd expect $20 earphones to sound like. Not great, but also not bad. So, 6 out of 10 considering they were cheap. The time has come to eat. So, the idea is you blindfold me and then you shuffle around the toast so I can't tell the difference. These are actually both very good-looking slices of toast. They've got that crispy outer shell, but also that bounce. That's how you know it's good inside. So, we'll just butter the same parts of both slices.
Good slice of toast. Whether that's the balmudra or not, it's got it. It's got that magic. Okay, this an important moment. It's not quite as good. It's a little bit crispier throughout, but if that's a 10, that's still very close at a nine. I'm going to guess that's the kaku.
That's about No, no, seriously. Quarter of the price. The best toast I've ever eaten in my life. texture so good you could eat it butterless which I guess means that may seem dramatic but we will come back to that so so far I'm actually a little jealous Koreans seem to have it very good when it comes to the quality of their tech but I'm curious if that translates to a completely different product category the keyboard that is stunning so the selling point here appears to be two things one Clearly the aesthetic. It's got gamery elements with the translucent body and the configurable lighting. And it has all that fun stuff while still feeling quite refined. Oh my god, this one might be even better. It's like lighting the entire zone around the key you're pressing. It's just so satisfying. And then the second is the typing experience. Thanks to two extra silicon layers, one just below the keys
and then one at the base of the entire thing. Can actually see it through this back plate. This should translate to really low resonance. So, the only thing that you feel is the specific key that you're pressing. Oh, yeah. I have a weird thing with keyboards. This is actually ridiculously nice to type on, but it goes down so smooth. You feel the sudden actuation when you press each key down a certain amount. But the sound is so clean. I don't have much more to say apart from the fact that I want it. I want it. And I'm going to find a way to import it when I get back. I accidentally bought the wired version cuz I didn't have my AI scan talk at the time. But there is a wireless one, too. Maybe I'll say 9.5 just cuz I can't keep handing out tens.
All right, I'll admit the breadcrumbs on the floor that are now starting to permeate my socks are really getting to me. But the reason that I put them there is to test the Dyson pencil back. It is so cool seeing a product completely engineered around Asian culture. something that at least based on what we were told might struggle in the US because of all the carpet that needs more suction and a bigger storage container and go. Wo! Incredible. It's so straight and it's so maneuverable. It just feels like an extension of my arm. This is like this is my new superpower. Now, obviously, this is not the most difficult thing you can give to a vacuum cleaner, but nothing about the suction power feels any less than much bigger vacuums I've tested before. Oh, and it fits so smoothly underneath cabinets and if you had sofas. I love the LEDs, too. They're on both sides. Wait a second. Look what happens to the dirt when I turn the
thing on. So, it's compressing it into the top by taking out as much of the air inside as possible. I mean, there's absolutely a limit to how much you're going to be able to fit into this chamber, but it's cool to see them using tech to try and maximize what is there. The only problem, and we kind of saw this coming, is the battery. Cuz while it is cool that it's counting down in seconds how long it has left, it's not great that that time is 20 minutes when I've only been using it for 5. And then apparently, you kind of shoot the contents of this container into your trash.
Wo, that's a cool mechanism. It means there's like a 0% chance that you actually physically come into contact with the dirt. Although caveat, I'd say the container isn't as emptied as it would be on a traditional vacuum cleaner. And then it's all finished off with a dock for the first time is magnetic. I love this thing. I mean, 25 minutes of battery is at least a third less than what you get on a traditional vacuum cleaner. It's a good 25 minutes. The thing is so maneuverable that you could probably get more done in that time.
We've waited long enough. I think it's time we find out what is going on with this suitcase. Didn't even think about how you get it open. Oh, yes. Okay. Oh. Oh, what the hell? That is thick. So, it kind of doubles as a suitcase to be honest. The rest of it looks enough like an explosive. Would you take this to an airport? I'm a little nervous to turn this thing on. Feels like you could pilot a World War II aircraft on this thing. Maybe if you can get past security. Korean music is so catchy. But that doesn't sound good at all. Oh, that's such a bummer. I mean, we can cut the company some slack. They've literally made one unit of this. And it's been sitting on the store shelf for so long that it's probably 30% dust at this point. And it looks like someone's sat on the speaker cones. How was this still in the store? But some part of me did think we'd found something special here. Feel like I need a quick win right
now to cheer me up. Okay, the time has come for the lucky box. So, I spent $67 on this. Let's see the value of what we end up getting. Got to say, there is something really funny to me about the idea of gambling on which shaver you get. Because surely there's a set of features that you know you need when you're choosing your shaver and you just might not get them. Honey, why don't you shave your neck anymore? cuz I didn't win the right features. Okay, so there are six possible shavers we could win here, and they range from $80 value all the way to a $250 value. So, I guess in theory, we can't lose. Oh. Oh.
Ah. It's definitely not one of the best ones. What is this? 5,000 series. It's about $100.
$100. Can I still shave my neck? Yes. Did I have a fun 2 minutes? Absolutely. Should I have just waited for a sale and bought the model I wanted? Yeah, probably should have. I wasn't mentally prepared for backtoback L's like this after such a strong start. I could really do with some relaxation right now. Thankfully, before we give it all away to someone, these last few products should be able to give me that. So, this is the LG Mood Mate Cinema and Mood Lighting allin-one. Okay, so this is the mood lighting. I think the less said about that the better. Okay, so you do get different colors. And I guess the idea is to cast it against a wall more like this. But even then, that's just tragic, isn't it?
And what I didn't realize is you can't even use this terrible mood lighting when you're using the projector. I mean, look, I get the idea of having this cool projector when you need it, and then when you don't need it, it kind of folds up to become a somewhat aesthetic room prop, but I would way rather just have a proper smart lamp than this. There's some nice touches here, I got to admit. Like, this entire surface is magnetic, so the remote snaps on wherever you want it to. And it's got a nice capacitive touch control panel up top. I think the maneuverability of this is incredible.
You know, the ability to pick it up, put it somewhere else. I like the fact that you can tilt it and it's got the autofocus. It's got the auto keystone correction. So, it means that within a second of you having rotated it, the picture has adjusted. It's 1080p resolution. It's bright enough that if you're sitting in the dark, it would look great. And the speakers are pretty punchy. Finished off by the fact that you can also just directly connect to them as a Bluetooth speaker. So, I would say forget the mood lighting even exists, but as a projector, 7.5 out of 10. It's just expensive. All right. So, that didn't exactly take my mind to the ethereal plane, but maybe the Sleepy Soul Plus will. A headband that uses cranial electrotherapy stimulation to force you to relax. And there is a very important reason why this exists in Korea. The big SEAT exam that every student has to sit to get into
university is crazy. We were in the country the day it was happening and no flights are allowed to land during a certain portion of it. Every office was closed in the morning so that kids could get to the exam on time. And then the police, their entire job that day seemed to be just dropping people who were late off to these exams. And so you can imagine for the students, the stress levels must be through the roof. So you're meant to put the sleepy cell on for 30 minutes two times a day to feel the full effect. So between this and my new skincare routine, I don't think I have time for an exam. And I have actually been testing this over the last few days. Here's what happened the first time I put it on.
Ow. It's shocking me. Yeah, it really hurts. It's got this whole app and tons of different modes and also this entire menu of supposed benefits it's meant to trigger in your brain like 50% more serotonin to boost your mood and 25% melatonin to induce sleep. But unlike the Medicube that zaps you, but it zaps you for a specific outcome like improved skin, this zaps you to make you feel better. And it does it at completely random intervals. So, you're just sat there biting your nails off, not sure when the next shock is coming. Plus, every time it did come, my eyes started involuntarily flickering, which just feels very alarming. It's It's like you're getting overridden by machinery.
Attack. So, for me, one out of 10. Time to give it all away. First person that recognizes me can have everything. And because there's absolutely no way that we could carry all this stuff while angling a camera, I'm using the Insta 360 X5, our sponsor, which captures all angles. So I can just shoot knowing that the camera can use instaf frame mode to just keep me in the middle without me needing to even touch an editing program. Now we wait. Hey, that's me. That's nice to meet you. No, no, no. Let's go again. Nice to meet you. No, we've been shopping for like a week to try and find the best things in Korea.
Uh-huh. Would you like it? All of this. Everything. Oh my goodness. There's a lot of stuff in here. A didn't see this coming when he first saw me, which I can actually go back and see because this camera shot both the flat file and the full 360.
With this invisible selfie stick having magically disappeared, making it look like a floating drone took the shot.
No. Is that okay? Yeah, absolutely. You take it all, please. You get it. Thank you.
And if you use the link in the description, it is 15% off plus a free 3 m selfie stick.
Good to see you. Thank you. Nice to meet you. Kind of crazy. Thank you. Take care.
