What this episode is about
In a recent speech at the National Prayer Breakfast, President Trump delivered a combative and self-centered address, diverging from traditional messages of faith to lament perceived election injustices and inflate his own ego, leaving attendees bewildered by the disconnect between his rhetoric and the event's intended purpose of spiritual reflection. Critics noted that rather than invoking a sense of national redemption, Trump's performance seemed to mock the faith leaders present who have supported him despite his controversial statements and actions.
Key takeaways
- Trump's prayer breakfast mantra: more ego, less divine — a perfect sermon on self-centeredness.
- Faith leaders in attendance: awkward laughter or silent resignation? Either way, faith meets farce.
- Democrats at a prayer breakfast? Trump says no, ignoring decades of religious diversity in America.
- JFK’s Catholicism questioned; today, Trump reduces faith to partisan loyalty. What a shift, eh?
- Tax cuts and restrictions trump faith — as long as GOP delivers, evangelicals seem unfazed.

Earlier today, President Trump addressed the National Prayer Breakfast and he summoned the faithful in near biblical tones, Dan, calling on Americans to return to God, reclaim the altar of public life, and to seek national redemption. Just kidding. He ranted like a uh narcissistic Let's watch.
They rigged the second election. I had to win it. Had to win it. I needed it for my own ego. I would have had a bad ego for the rest of my life. Now I really have a big ego, though. Beating these beating these lunatics was incredible, right? What a great feeling.
What a great feeling, Dan. Feels good, right? You feeling good? I feel spiritual. Yeah.
Prayerful. I feel closer to God from hearing that. I really do. True. It's it's the the power of prayer, as Obama used to say. Um like we're on year like 4,000 of watching him go to this prayer breakfast and just like spew ranting nonsense. Do you think the faith leaders in that room are ever like like what the hell is happening here? is nuts.
It seems like no based on everything that's been through. And I do feel like every year there's some part of Trump's subconscious that uses this event to make the right-wing evangelical leaders who have endorsed the profane violent thrice married notorious CAD uh with no real, you know, relationship to the church or the Bible or anything else make them feel like idiots for doing so. Right? like he rubs it in their there's nothing Trump likes to do than rub it in people's face that they are forced to support him and that's what's happening here.
What what what did you say his favorite Bible verse was? It was like two Corinthians or something like that.
Yeah. Two I think two What a 2017 throwback like Thank you. Let's do a Kof Kof reference later.
Yeah, I think that was uh during a Mark Halpern interview. Um all right, here is another one of Mr. Trump's uh impassioned calls for public piety. Let's watch.
I don't know how a person of faith can vote for a Democrat. I really don't. And I know we have some here today and I don't know why they're here because they certainly don't give us their vote. I certainly know that we're not going to be convincing them to vote for a little thing called voter ID. It polls at 97%. They say that's not allowed and everyone's trying to figure it out and they do something to win. You know what it is? They cheat. So that clip is troubling because I mean it you think he's just like he's overtly elevating political partisanship over prayer or or religion or faith, right? Like that is supposed to be a room where people from all parties, predominantly Republicans, but people of all parties can come together and worship God. And he's like, I don't know why the you guys are here, you know, you're not a Republican, so it doesn't matter. Definitely true that the Republican party has been more
closely associated with evangelical Christians over the past many many decades here, but the idea that there aren't many many faith leaders who are progressive in their in their personal views, Democrats who go to church, think of all, you know, Latino, you know, Catholic Latinos, black voters in the Baptist church, Reverend Warians, Lutherans, Reverend Waro, like across the board in this idea that it is you cannot be religious and a Democrat. You cannot believe the in God and be a Democrat is just so patently offensive.
I were so numb to this sort of fake. Like even the people in the room were like awkwardly laughing at that to try because it's so uncomfortable because it's so patently false and so offensive.
Yeah, it really is. I mean, there was a point in time when uh John F. Kennedy was, you know, people questioned whether he could be president because they wondered if he would have his allegiance to the Pope because he was a Catholic.
Yes. They're not even speaking about all of the faithful Jews and Muslims and Buddhists and everyone else in this country, some of whom are Democrats, some of whom are Republicans. The that is beyond the point uh of what he's saying. And it is it is truly is historically offensive. It is the sort of thing I know we've been saying this forever usually on this day every year since 2017 is that these are the kind of things that if any other person said under any other context, it would be a cause an outroar of epic proportions. Yeah. Well, as long as Trump can get them tax cuts and more restrictions on uh when and where women are allowed to go to the doctor, those people will be happy. rough mornings after drinking. Here's how it works. When you drink, alcohol gets converted into a toxic byproduct in the gut. It's a buildup of this byproduct, not dehydration, that's to blame for rough days after drinking. Pre-alcohol produces an enzyme to break this byproduct down. Just remember to make pre-alcohol your first drink of the night. Drink responsibly and you'll feel your best tomorrow. How much do we love Ziotics?
Huge fans. I'm was actually thinking over the weekend that I want to pack some for the uh Australia tour.
Maybe we can bring it to Australia. I bet you can. I think so. It just looks funny.
I won't have an alcohol drink without a Ziotics first because it's just not worth it.

Uh Dan, I just want to play one different equally stirring uh address to a prayer breakfast for you and then just get you to rank this one in terms of um the reaction to this clip versus uh what President Trump said. Let's watch.
I woke up this morning at 7. I I was getting picked up at 7:45. Patrick, my fiance, tried to pull me by my waist over this morning in bed and I was like, "No, baby. We don't got time for that this morning." Uh, I got to get to the prayer breakfast and I got to be on time. And a little TMI, but um I he can wait. He's got we got I'll see him later tonight.
So, that was uh South Carolina Congresswoman Nancy Mace. Uh Dan, do you think it's more or less weird talking about how you didn't bang your fiance that morning at the prayer breakfast than saying, you know, ranting about Democrats?
They are engaged or they're married? Uh that Well, that was a couple years ago, so I don't know what they are now. I think they're divorced.
Okay. Okay. Yeah, that was um deeply uncomfortable like most uh times Nancy May speaks in public are. Very strange, I'd say. Quite strange.
Yeah. But good for them. I'm happy they're happy. Hey, have at it, Nancy. Uh there was a big article in I think uh New York Magazine I believe this week
that basically argues um Nancy Mace is losing it or has lost it or at least that's what her staff who are all quoted in the article says um that talks about how she makes her staff clean her apartments including ones I think she rents out on Airbnb. Um there's a staffer in there who said that Nancy Mace made them do booze runs at 2 a.m. Like can you imagine you're Dan you're working for like Tom Dashel or Evan B. you get a call at 2 am being like, "Bring me a bottle of tequila." It feels um unheard of.
But then she went on TV and said she has a condition which doesn't allow her to drink, which then allow which everyone to put out photos of her drinking, photos of videos of her drinking
that she tweeted out usually. Yes. Yes. Yes. This is not this is not archival footage from the Epstein files. This was
this was she tweeted out. And then the other thing in that article that is quite um interesting, I guess, is that she's very concerned about how she ranks in the question of who the hottest member of Congress is. Yes.
And she's constantly instructing her staff to upvote her on Reddit when this question comes up so that she will be viewed as the hottest member of Congress.
Yeah. Which I mean, okay, that's it feels like, you know, you're you're demanding to be voted, you know, best player on the JB basketball team. It's not like a It's not like a It's not a particularly attractive body of people, you know what I mean? Like, no offense Bernie Sanders, but like, you know, it's not
Did you compete uh to be one of the hills most beautiful people in your time in Washington? No. Was that just
Favro? I Yeah, I I don't think I don't think you and I were were sniffing that political. Uh,
no, I was I never got that call. Yeah. No, too too hot. Uh, finally, Dan, um, we have not talked about our friend Elon Musk in a while. Um, speaking of the Epstein files, I did just want to check in on how kind of like the in-house Trump genius is doing these days to see what he's musing about when it comes to politics. Uh, this is a clip from Elon on Joe Rogan's show. Let's watch. Donnie is is is a charismatic swindler. Um, I I I mean, you got to hand it to him like he he does he can light up a stage. Um, but he has just been a swindler his entire life. What else has he done that makes him a swindler?
Um, well, I I guess if you say uh what I mean if if say if you say to any audience whatever that audience wants to hear uh instead of what instead of having a consistent message, I would say that that is a swindly thing to do. Um and uh yeah um yeah but but he is he is charismatic. It's hard to argue with that.
I mean talk about someone who spends so much time in their safe space that the just melts down and just like basically turns into a puddle of incoherence at A follow-up question, not a hard follow-up question, just a a qu a point of clarification. What do you mean by spindler?
Yeah, it's like it's a person I went to dictionary.com as that clip played. It's a person who cheats or defrauds others in case you needed a the lexical definition out there and he went like at what point has Zoran Vandani cheated on anything or defrauded anyone? He he won an election. He just he just took office. What the are you talking about, Elon? You're just saying you don't like him. It is I mean this is the I mean this is everyone speaking from the Trump playbook which is that everyone who is not on our side is a crook. They must be corrupt in some way shape or form. So you just start asserting people are swindlers without any
reason to do it. And in most cases you will get to say that in right-wing media spaces and no one will ever ask you a followup question. And I guess to Joe Rogan's question credit he just said what do you mean? And then Elon melt it down.
Yeah that yeah I guess that counts for like a tough tough followup from uh Mr. broken there when it comes to political questions. You know, I'm I'm really glad that Elon is like mostly out of public life these days. I really like just don't miss seeing that man or having to listen to him talk about stuff. Just like the absolutely like archetypical example of the obnoxious like business guy, Silicon Valley guy who thinks, you know, he's called a genius by everyone around him. it is when it comes to math and science and rockets and engineering, but thinks that applies to every other uh space in the world and just rants about it at all times. Just like exhausting.
Yeah, good riddance. Uh well, you know, we all look forward to Elon's uh address at the National Prayer Breakfast next year. I imagine it'll go very well. Uh thank you for watching this episode of Pave America here on YouTube. Please subscribe to POS America on YouTube. Uh the right-wing is killing us on YouTube. They are just, you know, those accounts dominate TPUSA, the Daily Wire, the Ben Shapiro of the world. And what that means is when people search for political news, they find that crap. Uh, and we want them to find progressive factual information from us. So, please subscribe. It would mean a lot. And it's free.
