Swede boots on the ground. He's going to preview that game that's going to happen at 3:10, I believe. Sweden, Italy, where we're really going to get cooking and start talking Olympics. Armdog. I wanted to get through that quickly because we cooked up a DraftKings parlay for today for that game. And we're going to show you that later for the Sweden Italia game. I I I've been seeing Italia when I'm watching. Is
that Italia? No. Is it Is that how you say it in Italy? Well, it's Milano, too. I thought it was Milan, but here we are from the runways of Milan. Um, yeah, no hockey this week. I'm off, buddy. It's It's great. I I was hoping
vacation dog. I am. First time for that. I should be in Italia. That would be great little vacation. But no, Merles, I was in Udica, New York. I was in Udica.
I went from Buffalo last week. I was in Toronto for the show. Went to Buffalo the next day. did Pens, Sabers, then I was on holidays. Family drove up. Then we drove from there the next morning to Udica for a big hockey weekend. The third time probably I've gotten to see my son live, which was awesome. But that's where I did. Like, how cold was it up there, too Mo?
God's country up here. I'm That's what I was I was trying to come out there. We were trying to figure a way to get out there. First off, your hotel was sold out. So, that was one thing. That was one obstacle. But then they dropped what, another 10 inches of snow on us. And and that was enough. We said, "All right, it's not meant to be I'm not meant to see Cruz Armstrong play in Udica this weekend." So, we didn't make the trip.
Yeah. I was hoping you could How far is that from Utica? From only an hour and a half from here.
Oh, and you couldn't battle through that long. Come on, dude. There. Well, the the biggest problem was you we couldn't be at your hotel. The whole point was to go through the lobby, couple crazy hockey dads with 30 packs of beer, let the kids swim, and have and let the let the wives drink some reds. And uh it just wasn't going to work.
Yeah. And I don't even know if you could have got a I don't even know if you could have got a room. Like I don't think like Udica is that huge of a place. And I I don't know how many age groups were there for that weekend. It's like that any pack
weekend. They call it that any good teams there. There's some good teams. Yeah. And it's it's um the Any Pack is actually
it's actually great because like USA hockey is just set up for my hockey rankings. So the Any Pack actually gives you like a league to actually play in. So, the guy I think is from Buffalo that runs the league. Great guy and he's got a good thing going on with keeping teams in there and keeping it competitive and doing a good job of running this little league. I chatted with him this weekend in Udica also. So, pretty good. That rank's sick that Robert Ash runs that rank, I think, and just an awesome rink in uh in Udica. So, it's uh it's a great setup
um for for parents and kids. Like they have an awesome restaurant up there, Merles, like a full bar, everything. So, it was it was easy. We had our dog there, too. I had buddy there. And uh uh one of our friends showed up, Dalton Carter. Remember him? Dalton Carter from um with Jess and Jeff on our roller hockey team at Chicklets Cup.
Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Do Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. He's like this sick player. He's He played I think he won like a championship with the A division after he played with us. They needed an extra guy. I think it was on G's team and Johnny Laz's team. And we're like, "Take this kid. He's [ __ ] sick."
Yeah. And he went up. So, he's living in Udica. He came in to watch Cruz the one game and like brought some pink Whitney nips to the game and everything. He had it going. He's like a s he's like a big fan, you know? So, I'll give him a little shout out. But he saw my dog ripping around because the girls had him. They're running around with the dog
and he's like, "No way. That's a dog that you're training. You talk about on game notes." I'm like, "Yeah, that's him.
Him." And and it was it was it was great seeing him. Yeah. He came and showed up and and good dude. Really good dude.
I saw him up here in Clifton Park last winter randomly. the game and he I ran into him in the lobby. So yeah, you know,
big game notes, big chicklet fan, great guy and I think he's from Toledo originally but now lives in Udica and works there and uh just a good dude but went out of his way to come down to the rink and and watch Cruz play. Just awesome to see him there. I met another guy that he he was with Merles though. It's ND NCDC the AC/DC league they call it I think
and he's with the Udica Junior comments in their in their team USPHL or what is it what is what league is that
is that a junior league yeah it's like a junior league yeah I can't keep track of them all now
3532 and two this Udica team and this coach was beauty Louie Educate Louie Educate I think they call him like the teacher or the professor or something that's his But I was chatting with him just about hockey and stylistically playing and all this stuff and he a smart guy like totally bought in like all like real hungry coach young guy and doing a great job there. So I'll give him a little shout out there. He came and checked it out too. He might have been scouting. Uh he was there with a couple buddies but just great catching up with him and hearing about his team success there in Utica and how good of a job he's doing man. Um, yeah, he he was he pretty impressive uh guy with what what he's doing with the Udica Junior Comets in the NCDC league. Um, I forget what division they're in, like the mountain division maybe or something like there's four divisions in that league. Merles, are you familiar?
No, I'm I'm so out of the loop with that. I'm I'm trying to just keep track of the the youth hockey right now.
I think they've won 33 games in a row. Yeah. Learn to play. Get the bumpers out, bud. Get the freaking bumpers out. and the college stuff which like is crazy which leads me to this next story. I talked about my old coach John Burke. So we had his wake um yeah
here this weekend and he played at Bowling Green when which I forgot to mention in in the in the little tribute I gave and it was really really shows that you should stay in the same college. You meet your best friends. You you get friends for life. Um Rob Blake, Nelson Emerson, Ty Iger and two other guys. F I can't think of the names right off the bat. Five of them came down here to Troy. They were the Paulbearers for him. They were in here for a couple nights and and it I mean he was he was a backup or a third string goalie at best and he was just a lifelong friend to them guys. And that's what happens when you stay in college or you stay in juniors with the same guys and you build chemistry for three or four years. So that just made me think like man these kids that are all jumping around college to college. Yeah. are never going to get this kind of stuff, you know, that that we all got.
Yeah. I mean, think and wasn't like Bowling Green was like a powerhouse. I think when I watched that Miracle documentary
that I think Bowling Green was a powerhouse there in like the 80s or 70s coming up and they had like some really good teams. When did when did that guy play there? What years were those like?
Yeah, he was there when Blake was there. That was in the early 80s. Remember like Rob Blake was just on Chicklets talking about those teams. He played three years there. Jerry York was actually the coach who ended up going to Boston College and coaching there for 29 years or whatever. And we're going to get into Boston College in a little bit with our guest. But yeah, they had a they had a powerhouse. I was just looking at the roster. They had some serious players there. And then that program kind of was going away or completely did go away and this guy Tai Iger, he brought them all the way back and he coached there like 10 or 12 years. So, uh, yeah, they're they're they're it was really really something to see. I couldn't believe my eyes when they when they all walked in.
And uh so kids, stay in your same junior teams, stay in your same college, meet your friends for life there.
Hell yeah. Hell yeah. That's that's the cool part about being on any team. I feel like that gets lost even in like Yeah. minor hockey, like they're bouncing program to program. It's kind of set up that way, though.
Like change the rules a bit. And I get it. I get it. Some of these places aren't as populated with kids. I I've I've done this before, but
um yeah, great weekend for you seeing some of those guys. Hey buddy, what do you got there?
Right here. Another find for you while we're talking about youth hockey. Look at this.
Who carved that? You. What do you mean? This is This is how knee hockey sticks used to be. Turn Quebec. Turn to Quebec right here. This was a knee hockey stick. Now these kids got one pieces that are curved. But I brought this out because I was getting some calls from the Quebec pee-wee tournament last night. The guys from here, Pierre Leblonde and uh Clarky were up there and they ran into my old college roommate Glenn Coupel. So, they were all at the bar. They're all, you know how it is up at Quebec, Pee-Wee. You're on the booze the whole time. So, they got together, found out they're I was old roommates with Coups. So, they're calling me all night from Quebec. So, I just wanted to remind you that's getting going right now, too.
Yeah. Yeah. My brother, I think, heads up there, I think, at the end at the end of this week. So, in a few more days, I think he's going up there to coach the uh junior Flyers program team that's going to be there, which is pretty cool
for him to go there. And I think his kid goes there in a little bit. So, really sick experience. So, to all the parents and teams and players heading that way up to Quebec City, enjoy it. They got to have a [ __ ] ton of snow up there, don't they? Right now,
I shoveled another five inches out here today. This morning, I shoved you live a joke, buddy. There's so much snow there. When I was in Udica this weekend, I couldn't It was It was
It was Saskatchewan cold like and snowing and blizzarding. It was horrible weather. Like,
dude, it's this is like the craziest winter here in probably 25 years. Um I feel like I'm back in Sweden. That's how it is. I shovel every day. It's freezing cold. The car barely starts outside. I refuse to bring it in the garage because then it's dirt. Our our town doesn't put salt down. They put dirt. So then the tires drag all this dirt all over the place. That's real mindsies.
I'd rather salt. I'd rather dirt than salt. Wouldn't you? No. It's disgusting. It's everywhere. Like I'm looking out right now my driveway and it's just dirt from that. The tires have dragged on here. It's gross.
Yeah. The salt is like worse though. No. Yeah. I got the I got the all you can wash plan. 30 bucks a month. Wash it as much as you want. I'll go over there every day.
So is that what you're doing? Uh when you when I couldn't get a hold of you, you were shoveling when I can't get a hold of you.
This morning? Yeah, today I shoveled my house, my parents house in the plaza. What about the last three days, Mr.
I was sick. I got sick on Super Bowl Sunday. Of course. Of all days. Yeah, of all days.
What' you have like me and my son got the stomach bug, so we were puking all day. didn't stop me from absolutely hammering the Seahawks and just just laughing at all these Patriots fans as they were going to this game and thinking they were gonna actually win with that team.
We should bring G in. We should bring So, that's what I was trying to segue right into that. Let's get this guy that had boots on the ground at the Super Bowl.
Yeah, that was a tough one. That was uh that sucked. Was that to that was that kind of to be expected though? Like I think you weren't super confident about it, but great experience nonetheless for you and the crew.
The experience was once in a lifetime type stuff. I mean like us in that suite. It was it was unbelievable. It was so cool. I mean at like we we were sitting next to John Ham. Yeah. Like at one and in and mistake mistake number one by me. I start chirping John Ham early in the game about how bad the St. Louis Blues are. Yeah. He proceeded to remind me, I'd say every five to 10 minutes that the St. Louis Blues won the Stanley Cup against the Bruins uh throughout the entire game. Like he just kept like whistling. He just kept doing this like whistle thing and I'd turn around and he just have a picture of him holding the Stanley Cup. So I couldn't get away from it. Not only were the Pats getting their ass kicked, John Ham was just giving it to me the entire game about the 2019 Stanley Cup, but yeah, it was uh once in a-lifetime experience. I mean, the food in the suite of shout out to DraftKings. I know DraftKings
presenting sponsor today. Uh Jeremy, everyone at DraftKings, they like this suite was incredible. I mean, the celebrities that were coming in there, Tom Brady came in, Kendall Jenner was in there at one point. Uh OBJ came in. Um it was pretty cool. Pretty funny when Tom Brady came in. Hogdale, you know, lifetime Brady guy, lifetime Pats fan, just locked into the game. He ain't getting up and like all Brady comes in the whole box kind of turns around. Hogdale didn't move. Didn't move an inch. Just locked in. Lock didn't even turn around to acknowledge him. Just locked in on the game. Uh so it was cool. Cool to hang out with him. Cool to hang out with guys like Jerry Thornton.
Uh Dana Beer's in the box with us. Pat, Briana, we had a good crew. Biz it. Uh Jeff Jacobson was in there with us.
Caught caught the picture of him in there. Why? I gotta know. I know like people were at like why were you guys there so early? So it it was weird. There really wasn't much of a tailgating situation outside. Like they had like the big fanfest and that was kind of it. So you either go to the FanFest or you go into the stadium and so uh the Brady 4, they all went right into the stadium. So we as we're walking in Dave's kind of like, "Hey, my crew is coming into the stadium with me. If you want to go in, you can. If not, you know, go into the FanFest." Um, so we went into the FanFest and uh, yeah, it was getting a beer. It was like an hour long line. It was not worth it.
Yeah, it wasn't worth it. We had this unbelievable suite with free drinks, free food.
Um, so we went in there and it was, guys, it was like we were in suites all the time at at at all these uh, you know, NHL Allstar Games, Cup final. This was different. This was so different. Like you walk outside the the suite to go to the bathroom and you like one time I pick my head up and it's just like quo from the Migos standing there and then walk down the hall a little bit. You see Jay-Z in the bathroom taking a piss and OBJ's chirping me for my Patriots jacket. Next thing you know I tell him I'm marrying a Giants fan and he's chirping me about that. It's like everywhere you looked it was like the biggest celebrities you could see. It was
I was going to say he was chirping you for your horn when you said you saw him in the bathroom.
No, no, he probably was chirping me to his buddies about that too cuz Yeah, it was just a tough day all around. But
shout out to Portoi. I mean Dave bringing us all out there and it was it's not like and we we kind of mentioned this on Chicklets briefly like he didn't just get us a ticket to the game. He flew us out there, got us hotels, got us a suite for the game, got us a a big party bus on the way to the game, stocked with food, drinks, merch, everything. It was just like a the top of the line experience.
That's amazing. Yeah. VIP VIP treatment. That's an experience you pay probably 50 grand for.
Oh, yeah. Jeez. Like, was it a party suite? Was it huge? Like, how many people were in there? It looked pretty big. Like I've been to a few games when you get into like they can take the walls down and make instead of one suite it becomes two like two drafting suites like next to each other and you could kind of like walk over in between them. Um but yeah this was two pretty big suites there. I'd say it could hold 25 30 people maybe.
Any craziness was everyone pretty behaved? There's some characters there. I mean, at one point I look over, Biz had a stack of four to five filet minans just going to town. I'm They were stacked on top of each other. And then him and his buddy Cal at one point were were hugging, jumping up and down so happy about the fillet minan. It was about I'm like, "Oh, did they just like did they just nail a prop bet or something?" And someone's like, "No, they just love the fillets." Like they're just so happy about the fillets.
Four fillets, four baked potatoes. That's is his favorite thing in the world. That's all he wants. That's all he wants. Believe all he wants.
But G, you did more than a Super Bowl this week. Yeah, you were busy, bud. I want to hear about Wisco. Merl, I texted you about it. It is heaven. Like Madison, Wisconsin. Got to be the best college town. So, right here, this is a pretty cool story. So, Friday night, uh, or Thursday night, it was my birthday. We film all day. the end of the day, you know, I'm walking back from uh the Cole Center to the hotel and I'm like, you know what? I'm gonna stop by a local bar and just have a drink. I want to find a dead bar. It's just turned midnight.
Just have a little birthday beer, go to bed. So, I stop into this empty bar. I hit up a couple some of some of the guys on the team. I'm like, "Hey, where we go? Like, where's a good dead spot to to go to tonight?" They tell me City Bar. So, I go down to City Bar, walk in, no one's in there. go sit up at the bar and a couple guys on the club hockey team walk over to me. So, I start talking to them and they start I'm I'm asking them essentially like what what it's like to go to school here and I'm like, "Hey, I hear like there's this big pawn hockey tournament." And they're like, "Oh yeah, our frat house has a a pawn hockey rink."
Like, what? They're like, "Yeah, a bunch of the frat houses have pawn hockey rinks." So this this castle that you see back there is a giant frat house and in the win and in the winter they all have these big pawn hockey rinks in front of their houses
and in the summer it's a giant lake and then I'm talking to some of the guys on the Wisconsin hockey team and they got a team boat in the summer. They get there in June. They stay there all summer and they got a team boat where they just go out, rip the with the boys, hit a sandbar, and they're just they're ripping it up.
What a life. It's It's unbelievable. So, Madison, Wisconsin. It was pretty cool, too. Like, we went into the We went into the student section. They all sang me happy birthday. Wasn't expecting that. Little embarrassed.
I saw you on the glass after one of the games. Oh, yeah. They They scored. What was that? They came down to celebrate with you right on the glass, dude.
Well, yeah, they got up big and then they blew the lead and then um they end up going into overtime. We interviewed Joe Pavevelski at one point, but yeah, so they get up and they go into overtime and Quinn Finley, one of the guys we actually had in the video, scores the OT winner. He comes over, board jumps right in front of us, right where we are. The whole student section was going nuts. The team came over. It was uh and then we all we all they do the thing at the end of the game where they're all arm in- arm singing the school fight song rocking back and forth.
So uh Mike Hastings awesome coach came from uh Minnesota Mano uh MSU and just just an awesome awesome guy. Uh he's building something special there. So it was cool that they got the sweep. Uh I was going to mention this for Minesies but I'll just tell it now. So, I did the lineup read before the game
and uh I I don't like doing that. It's just I'm so I'm a cringey guy as it is. I can't imagine anyone's that fired up to ever see me. So, to do a lineup read before the game, I'm like, "Oh, these guys probably don't give a shit." So, I do a lineup read before the game. And during the tour, I put 500 bucks on the board. Oh.
So, I already have 500 bucks on the board. And then at the end of the speech, I panic and I'm like, "Hey, if you guys sweep, college club on me this weekend, I'll cover the tab." Oh,
whoa. Well, oh, gee. Well, lo and behold, Wisconsin Badgers swept. I get the text after the game from the boys, hey, we swept. How are we doing this? So, I had to vent I sent them over Venmo for a thousand bucks and uh yeah, just a just a tough one for me. Just
you're NIL that's NIL money. You're a you're a booster. How did you how did you like how did you make that jive with your brain? Were you like, okay, not a big deal cuz then you went to the Super Bowl after that. So, you're like, I got this flight, I got this free hotel, I get to go to the game for free. I probably would have spent more. So, in the end, like the wash is like easy for you, right?
Well, I had a $50 at the beginning of the season in like August, I threw 50 bucks in the Pats to win the Super Bowl. So, if they had won the Super Bowl, I would have won like six grand. So, in my head, I'm like, "All right, Pats win the Super Bowl. I walk away giving the Wisconsin hockey team some money to go out to the bar and I walk away with four or five grand." That's a success. That's a great success. But I walked away with zero. Now I'm down 1,500 bucks. So, last week. That's a tough week.
Yeah. Great content though and going to be an electric um electric trick let's you. No question. I'm interested to see that what it's like there. You know what I don't think they show enough which I got we got to experience
at Penn State was that like rocking singing the fight song and everything that goes in. I don't think we see enough of that out of college hockey like that kind of stuff. Um, and like we see some of the highlights and some of the goals, but I don't think we see like that school vibe feeling, which I think you provide that with Chiclu and what we got to do when we were at Penn State to see that. You know what I mean?
I think that's important though cuz like that's some of the best that's like what make college hockey unique. It's like with in Europe hockey when they're like setting the fireworks off inside, they got the big flags and stuff like that's that's what makes it so unique. You know what I mean?
Yeah, I agree. I agree. I think that's You want to see the best one? Army, next weekend. Troy, New York. Big red freak out. York.
Oh, where will I be next week? I'm going somewhere like New Jersey somewhere. How far is that?
If you say for work. I thought you had a vacation. No, no, no, no, no. It's for family stuff like cruise and stuff.
All right. Jersey. Well, it depends where in Jersey, but um Yeah. I don't know.
You know, I get up to the north of Jersey, two hours down to the where the Devils play, two and a half, three Newark.
Okay. Yeah. Not bad. I mean, you can go all the way down to AC. 4 hours. I don't know where we are. Four hours to AC. Hot damn.
Remember our trips to AC? Hot damn. Oh, yeah. Boys, as as much as we'd love to hear about the glory days trips to to Atlantic City, why don't we welcome on the one, the only,
yes, the Dean pot. There he is. There he is. Deano, boys. Dean Lo. What a guy. What a guy. This guy is an absolute monster. I know you look small in the picture right now, but you're 67. What are you two tipping him at? 215 2
Almost I'm almost 230. 230. This guy used to be a football player. Wrong. I need a I need a I need a a linebacker and a tight end for Penn State football.
Yeah. Dual sport athlete. Dean Lerno, man. And first round pick, which is why G is, you know, got to wear dark pants pretty much right now. half chub right now, boys.
Yeah, because he's a first round pick of the of the Boston Bruins. Congratulations on all your success.
Absolutely. Right now. Um and flying high after a massive win at the Bean Pot. Tell us about that, buddy.
Yeah, it was unreal. Um you know, our our students came out, they showed up. Uh I think there was our our side was fully sold out and then I heard there was like almost another thousand students uh at like a bar downtown. Um, so you know it was packed down there and uh it was nice when we won. They they stuck around for the celebration. So it was Yeah, it was pretty sweet moment.
Yeah. What' you guys do after the game? I I I saw a video you guys over at Buff's Pub. I think that was yesterday. Like where have you taken the the Bean Pot?
It's kind of been everywhere. Um, you know, we took it uh down the down the street. We went to a kind of local local spot after the game and then took it to the mods. Um, you know, our seniors have been been carrying that around. uh every everywhere and then we took it to Buffs yesterday. Got some got some wings down there. So, yeah, it's just been kind of kind of making the trip along with us.
Yeah, I I heard before the tournament that your junior class was six and two against BEu in their careers, but the two losses were in the bean pot, which is which is hard to believe. Is that something you guys talked about and made sure you won that game for those guys?
Yeah, a little bit. Um, you know, we kind of had some uh some bad history with them last year in the Bean Pot finals and uh so it was definitely definitely a conversation that we had with uh you know, making sure we we got this one and got this one for our seniors. You know, they had some some tough luck in the Bean Pots uh their their first two years and uh made it to the finals last year. Couldn't get it done. So, we were glad to be able to get that done for them this year.
And you you sniped a Gino. You've been on fire this year, too. You're having a great season, buddy. And um um maybe just talk about that what that goal was like, too. what that felt like with all the fans there. It's crazy. I think you have half as many students at BC than are at BEu as well for your student section to show up like they did. It wasn't always like this army either. Like BEu was always known to have the bigger fan section. And I don't know if it was like Smitty and Leonard and all them when they came in a few years ago, but BC's fan section is insane now. It's crazy. Cruz texted me during the game, Kobe, and was like, "This is [ __ ] nuts."
Yeah, my kid was at the game, Dino. He's He's going to Mount St. Charles just down the road. So, he's like a bunch of his teammates
were like, "We got to go to this Bean Pot final, BUBC. We got to check it out." So, he went there and he said it was just electric in the barn. I'm sure you felt that, too.
Yeah, it was unreal. Uh, you know, when the chance started rolling right when the puck dropped, uh, it was Yeah, it was it was pretty sick. You could sense the energy. Um the uh the guys like Leno, Gabbo, Smitty, Fouls, they were in a box underneath and uh they said like they could hear like the upper bowl shaking just cuz how much they were jumping and stuff. So uh yeah, it was it was pretty cool.
I was boys I was texting with Whit. I was like, "Are you going to go to the game?" Whit did go to the game. Obviously left early once the score got out of hand. No, just kidding. He had his kids with him. But I was like, "Hey, um if you if you run into my kid, like you got to sell him on on this college hockey stuff. you could try to brainwash him while he got in there. Haha. You know, he's like Wit's like, I don't got to say anything. Once he's in this environment, he'll he'll feel it. So, he was feeling pretty good about like what he saw. It was it was it was pretty spectacular. The team win was huge, though. Like you guys had your legs. You guys dominated pretty much from start to finish. Um
that was awesome, huh? He played great in the final. Yeah. Yeah. He's uh he's been huge huge guy to get back from his injuries. So, we were we were missing him for a little bit there.
Dean pot. I kind of want to go back a year though and and I love the Dean Pot. I was actually sitting at the Bean Pot last year and these kids were sitting behind me and they kept calling him Dean Pot. Dean Pot and I turn around, I'm like, "Are is Dean Leo your brother?" They're like, "No, we just [ __ ] love the Dean Pot." But, uh, but I want to go back uh 2024, you're drafted by the Boston Bruins in the first round.
Warning, the following statements are about to be made by a deranged Bruins fan. The views expressed are his and his only. Take everything you hear with a grain of salt because remember he is a deranged Bruins fan.
There we go. That's important. That is important to hit that out there. So, drafted 2024 first round. I do remember you're drafted. I tweeted in all caps. We just drafted the next Cage Thompson. But, uh, the plan is then to go to the USHL for a year, but then last minute something changed. You ended up going to BC a year early. Uh not a lot of people know that. And then you obviously have an off year last year. I think you finished the season with three assists. This year, which is supposed to be your freshman year, you're absolutely tearing it up. I think you have 15 goals already this season. Talk about, you know, the process of getting drafted by the Bruins. Some of the negativity you faced last year. You know, some people saying that you were a bust. Obviously, not this guy here. I still I still rode the Dean Pot train. But talk about everything, you know, for the past year and and, you know, the experience you
kind of went through. Yeah, it was pretty crazy. Uh, having the draft in Vegas was was pretty sick. Um, you know, being there with my two brothers, my parents, we never really went on, you know, like family vacations a lot just cuz, uh, you know, they played sports and we were all kind of out of the house. Uh, so being there with all them was was pretty cool. And then, you know, hearing my name called and walking down onto the stage, uh, is just something that you kind of you kind of dream about. And the fact that it was with the Bruins and I'm going to be playing for for Boston College was was pretty sick as well. And then yeah, just last year was tough year. You know, it was Will Smith, he uh went to the NHL, which is, you know, opened up a spot for me. And uh so I made the decision to go in and uh you know, it's it is what it is. What happened? And you know, I was I was kind of grateful for that year. It
it taught me a lot of things, you know, I can learn about my game and and brought into this year. And I think that's been been a part of the reason why I've had some success is, you know, the coach has been on me about playing the right way and, you know, just keep stacking games where you're playing the right way, things are going to happen. So, uh, I think that's been a been a major part of my my success so far.
And in terms of just some of the negativity, how did you how do you channel that stuff out because you are going to school in Boston. Like was was that something that are you even on social media much or is that something that you kind of just don't pay attention to much?
Yeah, I try not to pay attention to it too much. Like I I deleted Twitter I think like the start of last year or in the summer. You know, you see stuff on Twitter and those guys can be pretty harsh on there. So, uh deleted that. Got that off my phone. But, you know, you'll see the odd thing on pop up on Instagram or something that
[ __ ] them. [ __ ] him, Dean Pot. You send them my way. I got you, buddy. I'll send them your way. But, uh yeah, you know, just kind of stay off it as much as I can and not really think about it and just, you know, play my game. I I gotta ask you too, you got drafted out of Canadian prep school. Like I don't I don't know how often that happens. Also, you had a massive year, like 130 points or whatever it was, 60some goals. Um, how did how the hell did that happen though? You're you're you're like in in under 18A prep school in Canada at St.
Andrews College, I believe it's called, and it's like, "What is that?" First round first round pick. Like, yeah. Merles is like, "What is that?"
Yeah, it's a special place. You know, I credit a lot of my success to them. Um, you know, they kind of took me in. I I wanted to play in the OHL, you know, my whole life. And, um, they they took me in when I when I wasn't able to get that opportunity. And, you know, I had a blast there. They had so many draft picks, so many guys move on to college. So, I knew it'd be a great spot to to develop and um you know, yeah, when it was time to make a decision to come back for the second year. Uh you know, I wanted the academics and the hockey and and that was the spot for me. So, stayed there. Uh we had a great team. We had a great year and uh yeah, it was what happened happened. So,
did you want to go to college after and I mean you were in the old rules, right? So, you were going to go to Sou Falls in the USHL and take the college route instead of the OHL which kind of, you know, changed things for you. Obviously, you've had a lot of kind of crazy changes in those like three in those three years. Really?
Yeah. Yeah. I wanted to I always knew once I went to St. Andrews that, you know, I kind of opened my eyes to the college route and I got to see like what the games were like, going on visits and stuff and I knew that was kind of the path for me. Uh so, yeah, I wanted to go to play Sou Falls was was kind of the uh you know, expected route and then uh things kind of changed halfway through the combine. um you know which opened up a spot for me and and then decided to go in a year early which uh you know looking back at it I think was a good decision for me.
Talk about playing for coach Brown. I feel like you know he he flies under the radar. He doesn't do too much like media. He he doesn't really put his face out there too much. What is it like playing for him? What makes him so special? And in the recruiting process, you know, what drew you to to Coach Brown in BC?
Yeah, he's awesome. He wants to, you know, he wants to develop you. wants to make you the best player you can possibly be and I think that's what end up making me want to come to BC. Uh I was committed to Nor Eastern at first and then uh changed my changed my commitment to BC and and uh that 2024 uh draft here and um you know it was all just development. I thought that BC would be the spot that could make me the best NHL player I could possibly be. Um so you know you've seen the guys that that have come through here. They got a pretty stacked stacked lineup. So uh hopefully can be a part of them one day.
Yeah. I got to ask you about the other coach though, our old teammate, my old roommate, Coach Buckley. What's the Buck What's the Buck done for you? Has he told you Terrion stories? Has he told you any Wilsberry stories to stuff not to do?
Uh yeah, Buck's been awesome. You know, he brings uh he brings a nice energy to the rink every day. He's always uh he's always energetic, gets the boys up and going. Um so yeah, he's been uh he's been awesome to have. Uh, he hasn't told us any stories, though. But I might have to might have to ask him about those.
Yeah. Oh, he ripped my sleeves off my shirt on the Bucks. I was talking too much and he had enough and he came and ripped my sleeves off my shirt. I mean, no harm done. I I thought it was hilarious, but Bucks of beauty, like great dressing room guy and probably really great for you guys and young guys and your team. I I I got to ask you about this year coming off of last year, too. Uh, I think you scored like three games into the season. Kind of like monkey off your back type of goal. It was a nice goal, too. Um, and in like a maybe I I don't know where it was, but was what was that goal like for you like mentally? What was that first goal like to start the year? Um, um, in that fashion to kind of kickstart you this year also coming off of last season.
Yeah, it was it was awesome. Uh we were we were losing it was in Minnesota so we were down 2-1 in the third uh and to be able to get that goal and uh you know I kind of like blacked out in the moment. I didn't really know what to do. Had no Sy um so it was yeah it was it was it was a pretty cool moment. Yeah it's I think it was like a year and a half since I scored a goal. So, uh, it was, yeah, it was pretty cool to get that one. And then, uh, to be able to score again the next game, uh, at RPI was it was kind of like, okay, you know,
hey, hey, hey, hey. I knew I knew you were trying to do that, arm dog. I had no clue. I had no clue that he's lighting up RPI.
Yeah, you know, I was at that game. I may have missed the goal. I was in the beer garden with Hagen's father talking about the old junior days.
Yeah. Well, speaking of James Hagen, I I'd love to ask you about him. You know, a lot of Bruins fans tuning in right now. What makes him so special? Obviously, such a high ceiling with this kid. There's so much skill, but tell us a little story about him maybe off the ice. And I mean, first off, I mean, there's six of you guys or five or six of you guys Bruins draft picks, the BC Bruins. It's got to be pretty crazy all you guys just playing together. Yeah, it's it is pretty crazy that, you know, hopefully we can all be teammates down the road and at the Bruins. And so, uh, yeah, it's it's pretty cool to kind of spend these college moments with him and then hopefully, you know, have have a bunch of NHL moments, uh, down the road.
But, yeah, playing with James, he's, uh, he's such a smart player and he's got such great poise that like he can just kind of, it feels like he's just holding the puck out there and everyone's just kind of hesitant whether to go, whether he's going to, you know, slip their triangle or or make a pass. So yeah, he's he's pretty awesome to play with. And yeah, a little story off the ice. Me and him, uh we got this little like sushi place down the road that we love to go to. It's called Yamamoto. All you can eat sushi. So we'll go there and on on like Sundays on off days and just pound some dumplings and some sushi, get it all in. So uh yeah, we like to do that.
I know what I'm doing this Sunday, boys. Seen him up at all you can eat buffet that people are like, "God damn it."
They're like, "Is this Arnold and Danny Devito here?" like two like the twins movie, the old movie. That's dating myself. That's like my age. That that movie is funny. I don't know if you've seen that movie, but it's a it's a good one. Um, I I was just I I I was I was just thinking about like when you committed to another school like what why like was it I mean a lot of schools have benefits of the college programs like even like BEu to BC they're in the same city kind of like what was the difference of of of those campuses or those decisions that you made for a crazy hockey dad like myself. I'm just wondering like what you saw that you liked that was that was awesome about BC.
Yeah. Well, the biggest thing was like the campus. So like Nor Easterns, it was kind of like, you know, it's in the city and you're like right downtown, but uh BC, you know, we're like probably 10 minutes out, 15 minutes out and it's got our own its own its own campus, so you kind of feel uh a little more at home. And it reminded me a lot of St. Andrew's campus where it's like just outside the city and it's got its own thing. And um so that that was kind of a big big reason why I made the switch over here too was just it kind of felt more like home with it it being similar to St.
Andrews. Yeah. There's actually like grass at the BC campus where there where BEu Northeastern you're right in the city which some people love.
Yeah. You know that's good for some people and not others. I gotta I gotta I gotta ask you too, what was I gonna say? Oh, playing in that rink last on Monday night and like winning like that's the Bruins home rink obviously. I like I got to imagine, you know, when I was coming up playing junior hockey, we played games in the Saddle Dome, like where the Flames play against the Calgary Hitman and I was like, "Oh my god, like I'm playing in an NHL rink. I got to do that." But this is special, I think, to you and your group, the BC Bruins guys, that like you're trying to get there. You want to get there, but you get to play these like massive games to a soldout house like with insanity.
And I think you guys play what your playoff games there too, right? Is that where they
hockey East? So you'll play games there, but you get to play in that rink. So what does that do for like the dream, I guess, in like, you know, building the fire towards that, being able to skate in that rink.
Yeah, it's it's so cool just, you know, hopefully that's your your home rink one day. Um but, you know, also to be able to win championships in there and and hopefully kind of bring that mojo and to to when you play in the NHL hopefully and, you know, hopefully you're winning Stanley Cups in there. So um yeah, it's pretty cool. I think that's only the second NHL rank I've ever played on. only other one was in back home in Ottawa, uh the CTC.
Yeah. Dean Paul, what this going into this summer, like what did you work on and and how closely are you working with the Bruins in terms of like, you know, workout plans and are you staying in touch with them throughout the whole season where they're saying, you know, hey, we saw your game last night. You know, we'd like to see you work on, you know, this side of the puck a little better or or are they kind of just, you know, trusting BC, trusting Brownie and letting them do their thing?
Yeah. Well, coming in from the summer, uh, just working on a lot of goal scoring, uh, you know, every practice just trying to put the puck in the net and, you know, get that familiarity back. Um, and then, yeah, like I'm I'm in touch, we're in touch with all the Bruins guys, like they come to pretty much every single one of our games. Uh, Ben Smith, I think, is coming to practice today. He was an alumni at BC. So, uh, he he likes to hop on the ice with us and, uh, you know, we got couple guys out there that, you know, work on faceoffs with them and stuff. Um, you know, I'm I'm in touch with the strength coach. Uh, we do video a little bit with like the development guys. So, I get to get to see them a lot, which is pretty cool.
And when you were drafted, did anyone reach out? Pasta, you know, Berseron, any cool like, you know, Bruins great here.
Yeah. Um, Makavoy and, uh, Marian, I think I think those were the two that uh, reach out and text me, which was pretty sick to see.
Yeah, that's pretty cool. Yeah. Yeah. Be deadly. I I got to like do you have to be like more patient with yourself? I think you know with your year last year and kind of circumventing junior hockey going and you know changing and going to BC but being tall like I think of Taage Thompson like he's really lanky and big kid and like I I I remember sitting down with him and and he kind of he kind of had a little bit of a slower area but it's like development. It's you're 67, you know, and you're having to play catchup a little differently than other guys. Is it hard for you? um you know going through these steps year to year of being like okay like it'll it'll come it'll catch up and are people reminding you of that like the strength coach or the Bruins or your coaching staff or people around you that it might be a little different because you're not 63 you're not 62 you're 67 like that's crazy huge
yeah uh a little bit I mean for me I I set high expectations for myself so you know I I kind of want it to to come right away and you know I work as hard as I can you I'll try to make that happen. But I mean, some of it um you know, like putting on the weight and just kind of filling out like that stuff kind of takes time uh which is like you know what what the coaches have been saying and stuff, but you know I I try to work as hard as I can to you know limit that gap so I'm not taking an extra couple years you know to get ready. I want to be as ready as soon as possible.
Well, while we're talking about that height, I see your dorm room there. It looks like it it might need a little cleanup. We can send somebody over help you clean that up.
Needs an extension on his bed, too. I was going to say, did they have to put you in like the basketball dorms or something? There's no way a normal bed in the in the freshman dorm would have fit you.
I uh No, I I chose a normal normal bed this year. Last year I had an extension and uh my feet were like hitting on the extension part. So, I chose a normal one just so my feet can kind of lay off the end a little more comfortable.
You just get some air on those dogs. Just dangle them right off the end. Exactly.
What a monster. You're like you rang from the Adams family. the guy that answers the doors. Holy [ __ ] What's that guy's name?
Lurch. Lurch. Just a monster. It's great seeing like a big man like find his way like that, you know? Like we're starting to see more bigger guys back. I think for a time maybe just before your draft, too. Like Florida kind of changed the game of the big man and the big man hockey style. Like big forchecking player, but now these big guys, they can skate. They have
Were you always big though? Like Sorry to cut you off there, Colobby. No. Yeah. Were you always big or like cuz you have you got a great set of hands on you. You can obviously you have a a bunch of skill to your game. It's like almost like you were a young skilled guy, a small skilled guy and you and you shot up 12 ines, you know, when you were 13. Like when did you sprout up?
I was, you know, I've always just kept growing. I think I'm hopefully I'm done growing now, but it was always kind of like two or three inches every year. And I never like had my both my brothers had like big grow spurts where it was like four or four, five or six inches. But like I was just kind of steady and I probably didn't stop growing until like last year or even still now. Hopefully not. But
are your parents huge? Yeah. My my dad's like 6'4, my mom's six foot. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You got freaking Is your brother's huge?
Uh yeah. So like my oldest brother, he's the smallest. He's like 6'3 and a half, 6'4. And then uh the middle one plays at he plays at Clarkson. He's 6'5. 6'5 and a half.
What was your parents' grocery bill like? Yeah. What car did you guys have? That's why you went to St. Andrews. It was cheaper to send there than the fridge.
Yeah, we had uh we had a couple Suburbans growing up so we could uh fit everything in there.
It's like having great Danes as your dogs. You just throw them in the back seat. The Dean Pot's heads out the window with his tongue dangling. Like it's just the LNO family. Just a wild scene. A wild scene with these guys. That is awesome. And your was your dad a hockey player? Like are you guys you just from Ontario there and you just played hockey? Were we outside of Ottawa?
Armp Prior, Ontario. Aron Prior. Yeah. He uh Yeah, my dad played he played at Delhauszy uh in Canada.
Yeah. And my coach from college, Dan Frigen from Ar Prior, Ontario. And another good story, they used to have a great junior A hockey camp up there. We would go and stay up there. It was a pee-wee camp. My mom didn't know what peewee hockey was so she signed me up for it. That's when I broke my collar bone. But I don't know if it's still there, but they used to have a stay in the curling rink. It was right next to the hockey rink.
Okay. No, I don't think I don't think that's still there anymore. Oh, they would line us up like cattle on these cotss. 100 kids in there. Pillow fights. It was chaos up there in Arm Prior.
Sounds like a good way to grow up though, buddy. And and uh I think who did we have on? Fanti. We interviewed him maybe with Chicklets one time and he kind of did the alternate route of going USHL being from Ontario and everyone's trying to trade their youngest son to go have their oldest one go play in the Ontario whatever great GTHL. But it's it's a really cool story I think for families or kids to hear of this journey being drafted from St. Andrews College in the first round. Like there's a lot of different ways to do it. Uh and I think your story is is really cool, buddy. And was it always just hockey for you, Dean Pot? Like, did you growing up, were you a guy, you know, did you play lacrosse? Did you play baseball? Were you into any other sports? Or were you just a a hockey year- round type guy?
Uh, my family, we played we played like pretty much everything. I think I played lacrosse, like box lacrosse for one or two years when I was younger and then didn't play that again until St. Andrews where uh switched to field. Uh, but like yeah, we played back.
You must have been killing guys with the long. Yeah. How long was your long pull?
Yeah. I don't know. But uh it was uh yeah, it was pretty fun just go out there and you know it's like pretty much no rules. You slash hit everybody. So yeah, it was pretty that was pretty sick.
But yeah, no, I played it played a bunch of other sports like tennis, volleyball, golf. Um yeah, I think I think that was like kind of a big part too of um just being able to stay like mobile and you know, you learn all these different like skills from other sports. So I think it was like a big guy that kind of helped me stay a little more coordinated. Awesome.
Well, before we let you go, let's switch it back to BC because like right now you guys are kind of sitting out of the tournament picture. Uh what what's the focus? What's your goals heading into these last few games and then you know the hockeyy's tournament is going to have to be huge for you guys?
Yeah, our goal is just kind of, you know, we're playing some good hockey right now. So, just trying to kind of keep it going. Um and obviously just win. We just got to win as many games as we can and kind of bump up the rankings. But, um, I think our team's in a good headsp space right now coming off that that Bean Pot win and, um, you know, just trying to keep it forward going into these playoffs and make a run for it.
Awesome, buddy. It Yeah. Yeah. G, stay away from G. He'll be He'll be stalking you. You don't even have Twitter, but you don't need it with him. He'll be all over you.
No. Now I know he's all you can eat sushi on Sundays. See you in the audience. Him and Haggins is a dream come true. Yeah, there you go, buddy. Congrats on the bean pot again. Awesome showing. Congrats to your group and good luck the rest of the way, pal.
Awesome. Thank you, guys. Say hi to Buck for us. Say hi to Buck for I'll say hi for him.
All right. See you, buddy. What a guy. He is. Great interview there. What a what a what a beast,
too. Like he's not like a mature monster. He's like a young monster still. Like he's still got some
He's still Oh, yeah. He's like the maturing. He's 230. Wait till he gets his man body. He's gonna be just a beast. And he moves the way he does. Like you said, he has good hands, too. Like that. Pretty impressive what these big guys with their training now and the skating and the skill work. It's not just good enough to be big. He's he's already ranging, but he's got all that in the bag. These big guys can now move and are athletic. So, yeah. Guy to watch. No question.
Yeah. When I saw him at RBI, it I I noticed his skating army. It was crazy for a big guy. drafted out of St. Andrews College first round. Amazing story. Really good find for the Boston Bruins. And I I agree with you there must not only on him, but even the Bruins were like, "Oh [ __ ] you know, he's got three assists. Like what's this guy going to be?" You know, and
they even they had to know though. They sent him a year early. Like we said it a ton on game notes last year. Like you'd have to be crazy to not like in in the development process, the kids playing prep school in Canada, you can't just jump into BC and make a difference like that. It doesn't work like that. They make them all go to the USHL now.
Yeah, you got that year. It's a crazy But um as we're on that, I said they're not in the they're not in the tournament picture right now. They're they're top 20, I think, maybe 18 19. They've slowly climbing back up there. Beu is basically done. They'll have to go on a serious Hockey East Championship run to get in. But we got our top 10
and uh I mean it was a wild weekend. Michigan State, Michigan played each other. Michigan State was up early on Friday. They blew the game and then they set things straight on Saturday night. I think we're both in consensus that that's our favorite team, especially after seeing him in Penn State.
Yeah. No, no question. Real quick, Merl, just to go back, BC's 12 and NPI right now, 169 and one. They've been winning a lot of their their past games since the since the break. So, I would not count BC out one bit, but yeah, Michigan State, it it was kind of no question we had to put them one. I mean, after the first night and then night two was pretty dominant. Uh Providence, Providence keeps rising in the rankings. Love to see them. Uh, I I can't say his name, but Ethan Wittenbach. Is that how you say it? Something like that.
This kid, Calgary Flames, draft pick, Quinnipic. He's a freshman. I think he leads the country in points right now. This kid is unbelievable. The Flames might have just hit
hit a diamond in the rough here. This kid, where's he drafted, too? Is he like a He's like a fourth round pick or something, though. Like, I don't think he was like fifth rounder. Fifth rounder. I'm reading some stuff about him, though, and then you see like the M. He has like a huge gap on his team too where he's like lighting it up like he's carrying their team. He's playing unbelievable. He's leading the nation in points. So yeah, we we we got to get him on game notes at some point.
Yeah, Long Island kid. I mean Quinnipak just destroying teams the last couple weeks. Nine, seven, eight, just point everywhere.
And you know who Wittenbach would have played with last year had he had gone to the USL was the Dean Pot. They both he played in Sou Falls last year and that's where the Dean pot was supposed to go.
So this kid was just awesome. This kid was an 07. Then I coached I probably coached against him. Long Island goals 13U because he's an 07.
I'm going to have to go back at the game tapes. Check it out. 47 points, 30 games. This kid is
I mean get better. That's all you got to do for everyone. What? You just got to get better every year. You got to keep developing. And that's why you got to be a crazy hockey dad and just get on get on it. Like you gotta you gotta be like, "Yeah, you gotta improve. You got to stick to it. Do you want to be that or do you not?" Like look at Deanpot. Look how Dean Pot's rolling. Look at Wittenbach. Look how Wittenbach's rolling. You know, you keep taking steps. You're not done just because they say where you're at. You got to you push it if you want it.
And Arm Dog, I know the outline. We got one thing else, but I mean you talking about the crazy hockey dads. There's one way to develop your skills. And if you're a crazy hockey dad, you should probably get this for your kid.
Oh, absolutely, buddy. You You Hold on. Let me I I'm I'm off of it right now. I'll I'll pull it up, but we'll pull up a picture, too. I think we have of some of these items. It's a SP Spit and Chicklet launched a new co-branded hockey training aid. Merles with skills picture of me,
a leading sport skill training brand. Now you can go to Dick Sporting Goods pure hockey locations and see the spit and shits brand on the shelves with skills. Uh we released training aids for players of all ages. We have universal shooting targets, hockey shooting trainer and the foam shooting targets right there. That's what those ones are right there. Perfect for the driveway or on the ice. These products will help your offensive game in a big way. I bet you the Dean pot was using these in the offseason to go from zero goals to what does he have 16 now and score to win the bean pot also help his team get there.
The universal shoot shooting targets build visual focus to improve shooting accuracy. The hockey shooting trainer features five targets like a shooter tutor uh helps build vision and muscle memory needed to increase scoring percentages. And the foam shooting targets have quick hookup and loop attachments for multiple shot locations. We hooked these up. You can see there we did this. Uh it's super easy. You can take them down, set them up, uh anywhere you are. Go get the brand new Skills Spit and Chicklets hockey training aids now available online and in stores at Dick Sporting Goods and at Pure Hockey locations.
Yeah, I saw him up at the Pure Hockey here in Clifton Park. But yeah, if you want if you want to be a true crazy hockey dad, you better grab all three of those for your kids. And like you said, Bean Pot was using them. That's why he's sniping so many goals this year. 100% 100% he was using them. No question, buddy. I'm keeping track of this uh game right now, bud. I I I don't know if you could believe the score of people. You want me to announce what the score is?
Yeah, I live bet Finland when they were down one nothing. 31 now Slovakia showing. I think they just scored a power play goal. I'm also following in the chat. I got gecko eyes going. I got one eye down here. I got an eye. I'm I'm following along. Merles, uh keeping track. Shout out to the chat by the way. We've got Slapovski. he scored early to to get these guys going. And then it was
another goal. Let me see who we got. Slowsky's got two. So, he just scored another power play goal. And you've got uh D'Vorski. D'Vorski was the other one. St. Louis Blues pick. Yep.
Yeah. Their coach is uh he was my assistant coach in Slovakia. So, that's the team that still owes me money. And funny enough, now he just took some more money from me by beating Finland. So,
yeah, they're rolling right now. And did anyone have that? Did anyone have that? Slovakia?
No, but I I I had some I don't know. We're gonna talk about my rankings later on, but I had my rankings. I had Finland down a lot and I was catching a lot of heat and I said, "Guys,
because they're so pesky, right?" Yeah. But with no Barov, it's I mean, that's a totally different team than the four nations when you don't have Barov.
Yeah. So, yeah, I agree. Hey, and the men's tournament has started today. Obviously, we know this. There's another game later that we'll get into, but but the women's side Merles is rolling and I I cannot
USA. I mean that was a beatdown by the Canadians. That was a winner I had. That was one I did win on.
I don't know what you think of it, but like it it was like they were USA looks like a juggernaut with their speed, the way they play. Like Canada's going to have to get to the drawing board. Five nothing shut out. I think that's the first time Canada's ever been shut out in Olympic competition on the female team.
Yeah, I might have seen that statue. Yeah, if people that don't know, USA women destroyed Canada yesterday, five zip. Hannah Bila, Hannah Bila, two goals. Caroline Harvey goal and two assists. This Abby Murphy, three assists, one was a spinarama right on the go. I think we talked about her last episode or two episodes ago. She was the one in Minnesota doing the pingpong shot or it might have been on chicklets. We were talking about it.
Oh, she flipped it up, knocked it through the legs, and then one hand pushed it over to her teammate. That was sick.
That was her. And then she does that again. So, she's she's she's something special there. And then the goalie, Aaron Frankle, a 20 save shutout. So, um, yeah, they're really impressive. They're young. They're fast. I look at that Canada, they they just seem like I I know a lot of those names,
you know, because they've been there so long. And I think that's I don't know, man. They're going to have to like I I got to put on I I didn't put my jersey on. I have it here though.
Here you go. But we're going to have to like the coach is going to have to get the drawing board next time they play and we got to come up with a better game plan here. You got to you got to impede. You got to slow them down. You also you're not going to be able to run stretch plays. These American women were back pressuring like they're so fast. I don't know if it's the white skates like those new white skates they all have on. They look really fast in them. But I'm like this isn't working. like you can't play fast. You have to change uh you have to have a different game plan. Like you're going to have to control pucks, slow down the pace of play. Um you know, manage pucks better. You can't go straight up with speed. They're too quick. You're going to have to kind of chip through them and get by them and wait for opportunities. Play more patient. Slow them down. This is going to have to be take it to the trenches,
ladies. We're going to have to take it to the trenches on them. Suffocate them. Smother them. frustrate them because they're going to skate circles around us. They're faster. They they ditch they got better legs. They're up and down their lineup. So, back to the drawing board when we play US again. We got to get it going. We got to tighten it up. We got to frustrate them. New game plan. Merles, you guys can have this one. Well-earned five nothing victory on the on the women's side.
There's the coach dog. The coach dogs there. Um Haley Win, number eight on us. She's a girl I coached out in Rochester. She went to Clarkson. Quick story on her. They had this shooting room up in Clarkson and men's and women's. Each player gets a little card, their card ID that can whatever bleep you into the shooting room. Hers was used like maybe 300 times more than any player on either team, men's or women's, something crazy like that. Her work ethic is just through the roof. And she got paid off. She scored the goal in the first game. I think she had an assist or so last game, but yeah, she flies around her edges. She worked with that Francois Mthot since she's probably been eight years old. The one that we talk about with Alex Tuck changed his skating. He's he's something special. If you need some skating help, any development help, he's he's amazing.
He's worked with a ton of those girls during COVID. I would say there's probably six or seven of those girl women Olympic girls that that skated with us three, four times a week in Rochester that year because they had nowhere else to play. So, um, amazing stuff there. But time to move over to the to the men's side, the NHL players, the pro players from these other countries. And you know, we know a lot. We know a lot of stuff, Arm Dog, but we need an international insider.
Yeah, we do. We're a far ways away. And uh we need a boots on the ground. And here he is.
Henrik Schoberg, Hanky from hockeynews.se. Is that a fake background? Are you really there? No, this is actually Sky News or what it's called like the big TV channel here in Italy. So,
yeah. Wow. It's their headquarter just around just uh probably five minutes from the arena.
Well, yeah. So, you were you at the game Finland Slovakia? What's going on over there? How is there an upset starting already?
Yeah, it is. I I was there for uh like almost two periods and uh then I had to leave and find a setup for you guys. Uh but uh the Slovaks are they're having a night. Uh Dalibur D'vor gets oneplus one. I love that for him. Like old old Aik player, Swedish guy almost.
And if you're watching on the spitting chicklets YouTube, you saw Hanky throwing an upper. Um you know, hopefully it was a Lucy pouch that he just threw up there. Every person in Swedish over there,
Henrik, this is good though. There he goes. He's got the good stuff. That's what powers him through Milan in the Olympics and every day and now he's in it. Are you just strictly covering hockey when you're there? As I know that you're a major SHL and hockey coverage guy there in Sweden as well.
Yeah, only hockey. Um and uh yeah, I also have to say that right from the beginning that I would never pass on an opportunity to talk to SHL legends like this. Like this is this is pretty awesome. Like no, but it's only It's only hockey though. It's only hockey. Yeah,
only hockey. Uh, when did you get down there? I know you were down there early taking in the festivities. Give us a little background on what's going on in the city, Milan, in the villages. Just all of us over here that wish we were over there covering it.
Yeah, I I mean, this is actually the first time I'm in Italy, which is pretty weird. It's kind of close to Stockholm or Sunswis from from my hometown, but it's the first time I'm in Italy. I think I've been to 25 states or something, but uh Italy is awesome. Milan is a great city. Uh we have a lot of fun like during the nights here. I have to say that it's a it's a good city to to be out. It's a good vibe. Uh and finally the game started. So everybody's happy right now.
How long have you been there for? Like you're getting your feet wet. You're covering probably some of the practices, trying to get you, you know, uh you know, the heartbeat of some of these teams, what the lines are going to look like. I think there's big questions with that. Have you gotten to take in other other events though? Um figure skating, speed skating,
not yet, but we're going to go to some uh to some of those. There's not too many too many others like uh other sports here in Milan, I think. Uh but we're going to go to watch some speed.
Yeah, speed skating is is I think uh Judah Leer or how you say is she's going to be having a race in a couple of days. So, we're we're looking to go to that, but uh yeah, other other than that, it's just hockey basically. But it's uh but it's good.
All right. Well, we got the big game coming up 3:00 Sweden, Italy. There's mixed reports. Knander didn't practice on Tuesday, right? And but then I heard he was out there today, maybe even working on the power play. What did you see this morning there?
No, but he was he was the first guy out there this morning. So, and also last night in the mix zone, a lot of the players were like, "Yeah, don't don't think too much about this. He's going to he's going to they actually didn't say he was going to play, but they told us that he was fine." Uh Ecma Larson is his roommate here in the village, and he said that don't care about that. He's going to he's going to play and and he's on the first PP, of course, and and on the first line, too. So, uh, um, yeah, everything looks pretty good, I guess, around around the Swedish team. Um, I would say the biggest thing is that probably Philip Forsber is a healthy scratch. Uh,
wow. That is something I see that he's down on the lineup. He's out right now. Do you have any input on or insight on that at all? No, but he's uh he's not on the PP and he's he's the he's the odd man out on the on the like the on all all the players wearing blue on the on the practices. So, yeah.
Yeah, he's probably a healthy scratch. And I mean, he had like 48 goals two years ago or something.
Yeah. And um he was number one. He was the favorite to score a goal on DraftKings today. Even last night when I was putting together our parlay, he was number one. I didn't put him there because I remember the World Championships last year. He struggled big time last year in the World Championships. I don't think he ended up scoring a goal maybe till the semis or the final or something like that. So yeah, um is that surprising?
I didn't think that would warrant a a scratch though. Is that surprising to you as a Swedish guy and reporter covering this team in depth that that a player of his quality? I mean, they're all really good. Like Sweden produces amazing players. Our lineup is very deep and good, but he's he's pretty elite guy when he's going. Yeah, we were all like we we've been like he's been on the national team a couple of times over the over the last years and he's always been like the biggest stars like when when they won their last world championship and and uh and all that. So we always like counting on him as as like a yeah one of the key players in the team. So that's definitely uh we didn't really figure that out like first practice we couldn't couldn't really tell why he was like why he's he wearing a blue shirt.
and you were looking at the yellow ones and you realized that okay so maybe someone is going to be out and it's not going to be Jasper Brat it's not going to be Lucas Raymond and Ilas Lindelam was the centerman so we kind of figured that yeah probably for form is is out so wow
that's that's been that's been that's been a little bit but I mean like you know all the team has good players somebody needs to be be outside but uh I think uh they could probably put him on Raquel's spot like in the third line with uh Patterson and u and Sibanagad. Yeah. But the thing is for nations,
Borsburg and Patterson, they didn't look too good together. So, I wouldn't put them together again either if I was the coach. So, I guess it's the way it is.
Let's talk more Patterson while we have you because he's from from your hometown. He played in Timra where I played as well. Um yeah,
can we expect a big tournament from him? Can we expect him to get traded once they get back? Any inside scoops on that?
I mean, if Patrick Alvine decided to trade him, I I don't have any inside scoop on that. But, uh, I'm not sure. I I I I don't think he's going to be a factor for team Sweden this this tournament. I mean, if if if we're going to win or if we're going to go to the final or anything, it's probably not going to be because he has an amazing tournament. Uh so I think uh I think I wouldn't even be surprised if there there's some change changes going on in that line like in the third line if they can maybe put Siban Jad in the in the middle and uh and put Forsber in. I I have I I don't know but I wouldn't be surprised if if that's going to happen actually.
Sam Halam coaching is Sam Halam coaching again from Four Nations now the Olympic team right? He is. He is your old coach, right? Great. Vea big big Va guy. He put Pontis Hollberg on the team. So
yeah, there you got Is he in the lineup? Yeah, I see he's on the fourth line. Yeah. Yeah. We're We're all surprised that Robert Rosen Rosine is
Yeah, that's a real legend there after all the money they paid him to light it up there in Vea for all those years. Um, I got to ask you any any any concerns.
Uh, we know like I think is who was a injury replacement? Was Anderson, Rasmus Anderson, or was he always on the team? I know that you look at some of these injuries and and Hedman too has missed a lot of time this year. Is there concerns of like some of these guys holding out? I think everyone's probably playing with injuries on every team to a certain degree.
No, but it was a thing for sure. I mean, Carlson was injured. Headedman was injured. Uh Willie was injured. There was there was some some big names like struggling through injuries, but they're all here now and they've been on the ice except Willie a little bit. Yesterday he was not on the ice. But um I think they're all pretty good. Uh but uh but the big thing for for the Swiss here if you compare to like one year ago in in for nations is probably that Landisk is is on the team. I think that's going to be a huge factor for them cuz I mean the Swedes have to man up a little bit like they have an awesome team. If you look at Canada, US, everybody's everybody's talking about them, but I mean we got to our team is is good too, right? So
yeah, maybe he gives him like some grit. Maybe he gives him like some grit confidence when you're playing against these other high-end more physical intimidating nations that he because he has that punch to him, right? Like he's an animal. He's a Viking like animal. Yeah. And just they gave him the C now. And I think that was that was perfect for for everybody to see like look at this guy. He didn't play for like two years. Nobody know if he was ever going to come back and now he's he's the guy in the locker room. And I I think that's I think that's uh probably going to be effective for them actually. I think it's going to be really really really good for them.
Yeah. Well, just look at Colorado since he's been out. They haven't even been close to the same type of team. So, whatever he does uh on the ice obviously helps, but off the ice he's even more important. That's kind of what I say about Crosby all the time, too. But tell us some more about them. Have you got to see Canada practice? Have you got to see uh USA practice? Any other little tidbits? Insider. You're the insider.
No, but No, but it was good. It was like Canada first practice. They were on like a little tent. Uh and we were all packed like in one of the corners down there, so you could basically you didn't see anything. I find a chair I can stand up stand up uh for a while. And
so what they put you guys in like a media corral kind of where you're allowed to stand and you can't see like the rink?
No, you can't see much but uh I mean you can see you see a little bit but you can't see that much. It's not like you're sitting like in an NHL arena with a coffee in the morning watching everything. You can see everything. It's not nothing like that. And they have this cra. You can't take a photo. You can't make a video. you can't do anything. Like I'm That's why I'm here right now. Like I needed to like take a actually go on a shuttle bus like for 2 minutes just to get outside of the Olympic village just to be able to put my camera
because I didn't want that. Thank you. Because we Yeah, we we don't want any Don't put that up there. We don't want any lawsuits. No Olympic rings can be shown. I don't even know if I'm allowed to say the word Olympic right now. Um the tournament. I just keep saying the tournament so I don't get in trouble.
Yeah. Yeah. They're pretty stiff about all the rules. pay through the IOC and the Olympics. No question. It's got to be a lot like for you to become a even a media person there like registration sign. You don't just show up and show your ID and get your credential. I imagine it's way way harder than that, isn't it?
Yeah. But that that that thing was actually pretty good. like when you got to the airport, they had people like following you to where you can like trade your kind of the the the thing you got on on on post back home and and you got your credential and everything was very smooth when it comes to that. But wow.
Um but it's like if you take your phone out and and trying to text somebody in the mix zone, somebody just might just come up to you and like uh what are you doing with that? And I'm just I'm just texting someone. So they're they're like they have people everywhere around the
scooping video inside info or something. E or they they control all the video. So even in Sweden when you're doing a report back home from there, you can't show like anyone else can't show any video and maybe a still shot if they like pay for it, right? It's it's pretty strict that way, right?
Yeah. I actually think they have a like you have a QR code on your on your credential so you can get like a warning and they come up to you and they like snap your credential and then you have like okay you've been warned like don't do this again. So
wow thing we didn't go over there army. Oh we'd be booted out immediately buddy we we'd we get Henrik fired because he'd be hanging out with us. His credential would explode like go gadget credential. Unbelievable. Me and him, he he's the one that videoed me for the Royal Juniors a couple years ago. If if we if he didn't get fired for that act, then uh he's pretty safe at his company.
Dude, he got a raise. He should have got a raise for that. Yeah, I mean that. Yeah, that's true. Probably Marrison, we also had a couple of good nights at the taco bar in Globin, right? In Stockholm during the Global Series.
During the Global Series, that was another time I I you know was with these journalists. The Swedes like to call themselves journalists. army.
All the Swedish journalists are beauties. Like we we see them and Henrik, we've seen you, but like on the circuit when the Stanley Cup starts rolling, if Hedman's in it or some of these Swedish players, elite guys get coverage, you you can say, "Hey, boss, I think I better go cover these Swedish athletes that are going to win the cup and Yeah. Okay. And then you guys come over. It's just great hanging out with you guys and seeing you guys at all these events." So, is Henrik Lungquist gonna be working with you with some of this stuff? because I know he's going over there and I think he's working with like two or three different Swedish sports outlets there.
Yeah, two of them. He's working with two of them. So he's he's going to be uh in on the on the broadcast for all the Swedish games. It doesn't matter if it's SVT or TV4. Uh so he's going to be here. I haven't seen him yet, but um but he's definitely going to be here. And uh Matt Sundine is on one of the other channels. So, he's actually on the broadcast right now for the for the Slovak Finland game.
Yeah, I'm seeing Slovak's won that game 4-1 with an empty net. So, I'm off to an early early mush start. Uh,
do we have goalies yet? Do we have goalies yet though? Like, do you net? No, but Gustin left the practice first this morning.
Okay. See, that's the insider info we need right there. Yeah. So, that might be might be a tell, of course. But uh I'm I'm a little bit disappointed on that. I I want Marstrom to to be the like the top guy on team Sweden now. He's like 36. It's his last shot. So um well we'll see. They Sam told us like that he's probably going to they have a backtoback game. So Marshmall is probably going to be in for one game. Um and um I don't know uh when it gets to the real games I I definitely want to see Marshmall in that. But probably Gustin tonight. Well, so he'll get a chance then and get a little battle going if he shows well. I mean, how I don't know what to expect of Italy with the strength of of Swedish's lineup. I
Well, the goalie is playing in Sweden or he was playing in Brinus, right? You got to know something about him.
Yeah, Damian Clara. He had a first he had like a really really good time in in uh in Bruno uh alongside Anders Limbbeck and uh then he went to Carl the Farad and he was terrible for a while and he talked about having struggling with like mental stuff like being on the ice pressure and all that and then now he's back in Brunz uh so we know him for sure but he's a good goalie like drafted from he's an Anna Ducks draft pick Um, good goalie, big guy. Uh, and we actually have have another Swede on the team. He's like a I think his grandfather was Italian, so he got that like passport in some way.
So, he played in the second division in Vesto for a few years and he's been in Moto. He's Yeah, he's definitely not Italian. He's he's a Swedish guy with an Italian passport.
Yeah, there there's a guy Larkin on Italy, too. He's Canadian or American. He's played in Germany forever, so he somehow got a passport. I noticed his name on there,
but I I got like the line keeps jumping around. DraftKings, they're I saw first they were minus five and a half. Now they're down to four and a half with some some juice in there. Um how do you feel about that line? Is it like close to what you think?
Is it going to be seven nothing? Is it going to be like I mean I just uh texted with some of my colleagues and I was like 8 8 to1. I feel like 8 to1 is a good result. I mean, I think they're gonna crush them. I don't know, but they should, right? They
And I think it's a good thing if they do, too, because like like I said said before about I I think they need to man up a little bit. And I think you have like Jper Brat, Delin, Lucas Raymond, it's not like the first or second year in the league anymore. They're like they're they're not kids anymore. That's how I feel a little bit about this team now. They need to like go out there and show in the beginning that we're here to win the gold. They're not here to like to like just Yeah. No excuses. That's what I I don't want any excuses.
You want them to punch their punch a punch a real shot to the face coming in like, "Hey, we're here. We're Sweden. We're coming in. We're going to announce ourselves as a country of hockey." Yeah, man. It's crazy. Vestos, I played with like three guys on my Vequa team from Vestos. Hearing some of these names and Brinus in the city of Gav Gavla. I don't know.
Is is it Nicholas Lidstrom from Vestos or did he play there? Yeah, it's not his youth theme. He's from a place close to that, but but he played there. Yeah. Yeah, he played there. Not for too long, but but uh but he's been there. I think his kids play there and
I think Dennis Rasmmanson, my old teammate from there. Yeah, he's from there. He's an awesome guy though. Dennis
girl, great guy. If you see him, tell him I said hello. Great guy. Of course, he was I think he was one of the few Swedish players from the SHL that made it onto like one of the bigger national teams with NHL guys and stuff. I don't know if he played a lot, but he was really young at the time and then went over and played a few years with the Ducks. And where else did he play maybe? I don't even know. Philly maybe or something. I don't know. But old teammate of mine, young upandcoming guy when I played with him there. Great guy.
Great guy. Vesto, little hockey factory there. Yeah. Well, well, Hank, I know you'll be in there. you'll be right in the mix soon as the game ends. Shoving that hockeynews.se mic in people's faces. But um tell us a little bit about the hockey news.se quickly and then we're going to need a pick from you on this game. I need a goal scorer from you.
Yeah. No, but um everything is all good with the website. We miss you though, Mer. You did a good job when you were you were there for for a short time.
Yeah. My former colleague. My boss. You were kind of my boss there, I guess, when I was doing my part-time work for the SHL.
The other owners is always bugging me about you. He's like, "When is Merles coming back?" Like, "Can you get Merles to come back?"
Army's got making me too busy. He's got me doing everything, you know. I got to get him in the mix. I got to get him grinding.
We're going to try to see if we can get two contracts for you guys and uh and get both of you over to Hockey News. You can work for both, maybe. No, but tonight, what do you need, Maros? You need a goal scorer.
I need a goal scorer. Yes. thing is I think Eric Carlson is going to score a goal.
I think he has like four goals this year, but like he makes [ __ ] happen. Like he he makes stuff happen. I like where you're going with that. I slump busted him. He had two goals and I got him on TNT and I said, "Come on, Eric. More shots on Ned, not the shot passes. He loves shooting and for sticks." He walked into one that night, blasted it for his third. He picked up one other one since then. So
plus 310 on the DraftKings sports book right now. There it is. Our international insider pick.
I like that. Yeah, but I think I also can see a little bit, you know, like we talk about like Carlson and Headedman, like those guys, they I think they're going to be good good tonight cuz they know that they are old now on the team.
I mean, they're not going to be a part of this anymore. So, I think they're pumped to just go out there. So, I'm going to say Eric Carlson. He's going to score a goal. It would be boring to say Willie, of course. I think he's going to crush it for Sweden. But uh uh but uh but I
Is he the top on the PP too on PP1? Is he up on the top like the points? Yeah. Carlson.
No. Oh, Carlson. Yeah. Yeah. Carlson is Yeah. With the first PP. Yeah. I would kind of
Oh, Dene. You guys got You guys got loaded. Yeah, it's Dalene, Nander, uh Raymond, Ericson E, and Kempe. And that's probably the first PP. What's Erikson E? You get him around that net front. The big Swedish horse
pushing around in there. He's going to clean up some garbage in there around Italian's net. They'll be a meatball laying around. You'll just
plus 150. They're on that. They're on him. I can't I can't name any of the Italian defenders, but they're not going to win any pucks against Eric tonight.
No, the guy's a No, this Larkin kid's a He's a beast. This Larkin kid's a beast. Watch out. Yeah. And he like he took a crazy penalty a few years ago. I was surprised to even see he's allowed to play hockey. We'll have to look up that clip. But yeah, he's a big monster. Like
in the mob. He's in the mob. Yeah, watch out for that guy. Yeah. All right, Hanky. Uh hopefully maybe we can get you again next Wednesday.
Yeah, we should get you for an update. Boots on the ground. If you're free and still there and you don't get your uh credential taken away.
No, we'll be good. I think I'm not here. Anytime, guys. Anytime. What a beauty. What an exciting. Go enjoy that Swedish game.
I will for sure. Love it. See you, buddy. What a guy. What a guy. Didn't you meet him in Pittsburgh a couple years ago or something?
Yeah, I met him. He came in here. He's like, "Hi." He's like all like quiet but like very friendly as you just saw. His personality. He's very good. He came up to me. He's like, "I'm friends with Merles in uh back home in Sweden." So, I was like, "Okay, yeah, awesome." Yeah. He was in Pittsburgh during some of those cup runs. I think he was who was he in like watching? I forget. Maybe it was Forsber at the time.
Yeah, maybe when Carlson first got traded there. Maybe something like that. First got traded, he was here. That's That's what it was.
I remember that. But Army, I'm dying over here. I'm in this new little room I made. And I'm I know I'm thirsty and it's time. I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna break it open. Body Armor Flash IV. episode is brought to you by Body Armor Flash IV, an official partner of the NHL. Flash IV is packed with electrolytes, delivering faster, longerlasting hydration without any artificial dyes, flavors, or sweeteners. Whether you're training, traveling, or just feeling the heat. Grab it at 71 today. Arm Dog, you know, I live off these things. You got Oh, you got the You got the zero sugar caffeine one there. G's on it. There's nothing buzzing.
There he is. There's a G. Gee, how sick was that getting a guy boots on the ground?
It's the best. It's I mean I didn't like that he was trying to poach you guys. I almost had to jump in there and say, "Hey, Henrik, don't [ __ ] step on my toes here, buddy."
But uh that was awesome. That's it. Look how much money we saved the saved the business. We didn't have to go over there and we still got an insider.
Yeah. Hey, do we want to put it up? Flash IV. Shout out Flash IV 100%. Everyone get a sip. Everyone get it in you. Do we want to show the group standings for the Olympics that that we have there? Can we show that or
the rankings? It's just group. It's just the groups. The groups. Yeah. I wanted to do a little talk on the groups with you guys.
I wouldn't mind having all you guys in the mix on this if we could show it in the rundown there. I got it down a little ways, but we should pop it up because it's interesting. So, you have to win your group. If you win your group, you get a buy. Then everyone else gets ranked. So say it's like Canada, Sweden, United States for example, they'll get a buy. Everyone else will get ranked that have to play like a a quarterfinals to play the number one teams in each group. And it will get slotted accordingly depending on how you rank out of your pools. And then you go to the quarterfinals. If you win that, you go play against those teams that won their groups and slotted accordingly to points and then able to move on into the finals eventually, which is crazy. I think they call it group E. They call it group E. They form like another group at the end.
That's what I was trying to figure that out. So, we could we could maybe do a predictions quarterfinals semifinals but I couldn't figure out. I'm like, this is going to be way too hard to kind of figure out
who's going to be in. It just makes no sense. Like I feel like they over complicated this completely.
You're all now dumber for that. Four winning teams of the qual. They do a qualification playoffs. It'll be team that's ranked 5 to 12 apparently.
And then they'll play the winners of one D, one, 2D, 3D, 4D, but there's only I don't I don't understand. They'll make like a group E. There's another group E also that they'll have. But these are the main groups here with these
monsters. Okay. So everybody's going to get in. Everybody moves on and then one through four get a buy. Five plays 12, six plays 11, seven plays 10,
eight plays nine, and then those winners play the four by in the quarterfinals. But
yeah, it's way too hard for us to predict those. So, um, why don't we do this? Why don't we do something where like we go through we can have a little contest and maybe we say who's going to be the top goal scorer on each team and you know we'll put a little thing if I go five out of 12 you go four out of 12 G goes six out of 12 he wins and uh maybe wins a steak dinner or something like that.
Are we are we drafting? We're drafting, right? Oh, you want to do a draft? That could be fun.
Off of which we can't pick the same guys. All right, let's do that then. Let's do uh let's do all the teams. We'll start put
pull up his rankings. Pull up Merl's rankings. Yeah, bring that. Bring We can bring this up right here. Bring the groups up. Oh, you my rankings up already.
Let's bring the rankings. Well, we're going to talk more about them, but yeah, that's a good way to start looking at it. We can start with Canada. And as as a Canadian Army, I'll give you the first pick.
Fair. Oh [ __ ] And hopefully Bird's in the back. He's writing these down because there's no way I'm
I'll write them down. I'll write them down, too. Do we each get just one player?
Yeah. Were you guys afraid to let me pick I mean your behavior on last episode? I didn't know if you wanted to be on camera today. You're so upset about hockey.
Yeah, I'm just trying to take my mind off the Devils. So, okay. Um I know since I'm running away with with the which trophies that I'm running away with? The 99 trophy. If you're scared of having me picked because I know Puck so well. I understand. I'll sit this one out.
I was waiting to figure out a good way to bring you in for it. But of course, you got to be in in all competitions. And
Iron doesn't have a team, unfortunately. I I I I guess I will go. I guess I will go there.
They're not in the tournament, are they not? They're not. They're not. No. Okay. I'll go McDavid. I'll go McDavid.
[ __ ] Off Canada. So, this is goals, correct? Goals. Yep. Goals. Uh, I'm going to go Tom Wilson.
[ __ ] goals. Tom Wilson. Okay. Goals. Goals. Earl, you go next. Uh, I gotta go McKinnon.
Goals. I shouldn't have done this on goals. Oh god. I will go. Great podcasting here.
I I'll go with Brad Baran. Oh, I like that. I like that. I really like that Wilson pick by you there. Um, all right. Team USA G first.
G. Uh, Jack Eel. Jack Eel. I will go Tage Thompson. Oh, I like that. I like that. I'm going to go Matt Baldi.
[ __ ] I like that, too. I'm going to get smoked. This is goals, right? Yep. Goals.
[ __ ] I was going to go Renky. [ __ ] He's got 20 on the year in the NHL. We got goals, goals, goals, goals, goals goals.
I'll go uh Larkin. I'm shocked Forsber is getting health bomb. That's crazy to me.
Isn't that crazy? He would have definitely been somebody's pick in this if we didn't have our international
Oh [ __ ] [ __ ] Someone Can I change mine? I forgot about Austin Matthews. Wow.
[ __ ] I'm changing. Greasy. Greasy. Shout out to the court jester. Shout out. That's why you got to keep an eye on the folks in the chat, folks.
All right. Arm dog. Team Sweden. Watching the chat, baby. Let's go. Team Sweden for you. Arm dog. chat. Help a brother out. Help a brother out. I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go. [ __ ] This is tough, man. I'm gonna go I think Zabanagad might be like lethal in this tournament. I don't know with his oneie and [ __ ]
I like it. Zabanagad pick. Okay. Uh I'm gonna go with Adrien Kempe. Oh, stole from me. I will have to jump to Lucas Raymond then. I'm going to pick yes for brat.
Oh, yes for brat. And then we couldn't set this up better for you, G. First pick for the checks. Pasta, baby.
I don't even know. I got to look up their lineup. You guys keep going. Check you. Um, for another guy, I got to go Thomas Hurdle. He's going to be probably the bumper on the PP like he does in Vegas. He can score goals for sure.
I'm gonna go Martine the Dream Nature. Good one. I like that. I forget about him. There's no like other
Radco that's got you right. I love Radco. I do love Radco, boys. I'm not going to lie. You guys
do it as a statement just because you love the way he plays. You know what? I'm going to make Kucks fans happy. I'll go Heronic.
Oh, okay. So, hold on. Say what they are again. Who' you guys pick again? Merles.
Check. Yep. Hurdle. Okay. I got pasta. Are you writing these down? Yep. Wow. You're multi. I thought Berto was going to maybe do it in the backs for you so you could focus on your picks because your picks are terrible,
buddy. I'm a [ __ ] beast, buddy. I got terrible picks. All right, your first pick. Finland.
Finland. Hold on. Let me pull it up. I like to look at it. I got it right here. I'm going to go scoring. Goal scoring. Goal scoring. [ __ ] I'll Hey, I'll go I'll go Rantin. I don't know. Yeah. You think?
Uh, I'll go Rupe Hints. Well, who already scored for them? I gotta go my guy Lechinan.
Yeah. Uh, I will go with this is tough. I'll go with uh Lundell. Tolvinin is the guy that scored their one goal today, I believe. So, uh, next up, Switzerland. Gee, first pick overall. Yeah,
I sent you the rosters. You got the rosters right there. Uh, Switzerland. Uh, I'll I'll do Nikico Heir.
Niko Heir. All right. I'm on Kevin Fiala. I don't know what just happened there, boys. I got booted for a sec. Uh, we got Hishir Fiala.
Yep. There's one big name for you there, Pasha. Oh, I know. His I'll go team Omire. I thought you didn't believe in him just like you didn't take um Brat, but whatever. Okay, nice to see. Holy [ __ ] Who's left? I'm getting screwed. I'll go Yosi.
Yosi. All right. Who's next up in the ranks? Want to just do one more team? Yeah,
maybe Germany. Should we do Germany or is that Germany? Let's do Germany. Germany.
Oh, Leon. Is he up? He he he picked Heir. It's me now. luck. I'm going Leon. Leon.
Uh, Germany. I'm gonna go Tim Stutzler. Oh, what a pick. Wow. I like that, but I like this guy to score goals, not points. JJ Purka,
you guys, [ __ ] me. There's nobody left. [ __ ] Um, I'll give you a little tip. Dominic Kahune is playing on Dry Cidle's line. He used to play in the NHL. A little water bug.
Dominic Kahun, I'll take him. [ __ ] I'm screwed. and Pittsburgh for a bit, too.
Um, yes. I I mean, we covered some good teams there. It's going to be a fun little competition. Maybe we should have done Slovakia, but that's kind of cheating because Slowsky's already got two. But, um, that will make some of the games a little more interesting for us as we move along.
Yeah. And I'm so excited cuz look at Slowski, two goals. It's like when these guys put on their national jerseys, when these guys are going like that, like it's just different. It brings it to another level. Did is Canada staying at the Village? Do we know that or they they decided they're moving out? I was reading reports like they're going to make a decision. They're at the hotel situation through the what the PA, right? Is that correct?
America and the other guys, all they all decided to stay in the village in the dorms.
We should ask our insider. We should I know. I know. I know. Henrik will be sleeping in the Swedish. He's probably in a bunk bed with a couple of those Swedish guys.
He's a true insider over there. Yeah. Yeah. He might be in the village and sleeping in their bunks.
I like the check theme. I just want to s throw that out there. I I feel like I haven't said that yet in all these, but I really I wouldn't be surprised if the check team makes a run here. Not saying they're going to get gold, but I just think they're going to play a lot of good hockey in this tournament. Pavel Zaka, big loss for them. I know Pasha loves him, but I I like this Chuck team.
I can agree with that. And while we're talking like that, G, why don't you give us your finals or your semifinals? Give me four teams in the semifinals and then your gold medal winner quickly, too. Uh, very easily. Uh, I have the United States as the gold medal winner. And then I have Canada, I would say US, check, and Germany I'm going to put up there. Oo. Yeah, I'm going to I'm going to switch it up a little bit. just uh you know got to risk it to get the biscuit here.
All righty. Um what do you got Pasha? Uh I've got Canada US and then I've got uh Czech Sweden as my top four. Uh and I think Canada edges out the US. I think that they're really going to regret picking a guy like JT Miller over Cole Coughfield or Jason Robertson. Some really really questionable decisions there on the US side. Uh, I love their team, but yeah, I think, you know, they're going to come short by one or two goals, and they're going to wish they had those guys in there.
Yeah, I agree with you with those four. Sweden, Czech, US, Canada. Um, I have Canada pre-ranked number one, but then but then last night, I'm watching the Netflix series. After I got done watching Spit and Chicklets on Netflix, it just automatically flipped on the documentary, the USA documentary, and then I'm down in the basement. I see my miracle poster, movie poster. This little scarf. I can't show you it right there, but you can see this scarf right here. That is from the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid. My mom wore that scarf to the game against Finland. She was there.
She left me at home, two and a half months old, went up to the game, saw them win, come back and win that game in a gold medal. And then all of a sudden, I said, "Oh." And then also the US women winning five nothing. And I said, "Hey, throw those rankings out. There will be a new ranking coming out, mid- tournament ranking. USA will win. USA beats Canada 8:00 a.m. Sunday, February 22nd. Let's go, Merl. Let's go." All right. I got I got the same United States, Canada, Sweden. You know what? Screw it. Since I got an advantage, they already beat Finland. Slovakia. I'll chuck Slovakia in there.
Wow. Instead of the checks. Okay. Okay, so Canada USA Slovac, and Sweden. Okay, and then I'm going Canada gold. And here's the reason why. World juniors joke. Like, we're not there. All right. The women smothered by USA the other day. Like, I don't know. Can they regroup and get it back? This is our last hope. This is a team put together to like save Canada. Save Hockey Canada. Save where the program's going. This is like everything. We got guys with heart. We got guys like just Bleed Canada. We got Crosby, McKinnon, McDavid. Just go down the list of these guys that are like our Canada. This has to be done. We've waited 12 years to get these guys back in this lineup. And these are some of their guys is like first times ever doing it that are just monsters of our game in the NHL, never mind just even in Canada. like this has to be it. They h it has to be old school, deeper emotional well than every other country
for the game. We have to deliver with a gold medal. These guys have to pull through. The pressure's never been higher and they need to get it done. Let's go Canada. They got the gold. All those reasons line up for them pulling through.
What a speech. Wow. [ __ ] That was a good trench warfare. [ __ ] just dig deep, boys. Like it's not going to be easy. We know that. Do your best. We know that. But like it's that extra Canadian [ __ ] The Canadian way. Like Coupe said, do it right. Do it the Canadian way. We know what that is. We know what that is. Bring it home, boys. Bring her home.
And I haven't counted out the women yet. I haven't count out the women yet either.
I love that. I love that. I love the picks. Um yeah, this this tournament better be good because these nights without NHL hockey are not fun. There's no lines to look at all day. I don't really know what to do once the games are over. But I did look at the lines for today's game and I looked at the lines for Thursday game. So I have a few picks for the people out there.
Pull them up. Um right here. This first game 3:00 310. Um I'm going Sweden minus 4 and a half. Ma goal plus 170. I was right with you Arm Dog. I I I've had that pick in. I've had that bet in all week. Um so I like that a lot.
Ma burger. You got to get a ma burger in. I like that a lot. And then I got this parlay. Biz and wit. They gave some goalcorer picks and we took Sweden minus five and a half. We think it's going to be a beating like Hanky said. I don't know if we got the graphic to bring up the draft kings. There it is. Sweden minus 5 and a half. Kempe goal, Raymond goal plus 675. Head over there right now. Those are Biz and Wits goal scorers picks. My Swedish pick because I think it's going to be 7 nothing, 8 nothing. It's they're going to be too much for him. And uh that's my picks for this game coming up in under two hours here.
All right, brother. What do you want to do your your picks for tomorrow, too? Yeah. Um yeah, I mean it's it's what a day tomorrow is going to be. Get up early. Four games. The big boys are playing US and Canada later on. Um
the times what are the times, most you know the times of those? Yeah. 6:10 a.m. Switzerland. So I'm going to keep it simple there. I'll go FIALa anytime goal plus 125. And then 10:40 a.m. I'm going to go over six in the Czech Canada game. USA Lavia at 3:10. I'll go USA minus 3 and a half. Tage Thompson plus 230. And then, sorry to say, I don't know what time the Denmark Germany game is. But either way, that's an over 5 and a half plus 120. Um, Dry Cidle, I can't wait to see him play over there. He's just going to dominate even though he doesn't have a lot.
310 also. It says they're a 310 also. I don't know. How do they play? Would they use it in a different rank?
Couple ranks. I think they got a couple ranks over there. They better have a couple ranks over there because they got the women's games. The women's are going to the quarterfinals now or what? They don't do this qualification nonsense, do they?
Women game that day at 8:30 a.m. is Canada against Finland also. So, we got that going on, too.
Yeah. So, those are my picks for for the next couple days. Um, do we want to finish up quickly with the show Mindsies for the week?
Oh, yeah. Let's get it in there for fun. All right, rip it, arm dog. Let's rip through these.
I thought it was so cool and we've seen a lot about this guy is Ryan Smith, the owner of the Utah uh Mammoth Hockey Club. Uh he's got a lot of news. You could follow him on social media, too. He's really great in his community and giving out tickets to fans and people responding with outreach and everything. Here's a post of him, which I thought was awesome. Um, meeting Clayton Keller, their captain, and their guy at the Olympics. Having four of our guys playing in the Olympics is really special and great for our team.
Welcoming our captain yesterday as he arrived to MLAN was incredible. His leadership through adversity um this year um what does he have here? His leadership through adversity this year has been heroic. So great to see the smiles of number nine. No one deserves it more. Hashtag tusks up. I just think this guy is an owner of a team. Like I see that like he's boots on the ground there supporting his guys and like he's always forward facing for his fan base. He's always answering questions. He always trying to make it awesome. And I just I I I think he's a cool owner in our league. Um maybe one of the more hip fun owners that we see kicking around.
So, I give him credit for being there and like just welcoming his guys to the Olympics on whatever teams are on uh Purka Germany and others. But I just thought that was such a cool post to see that from an owner in the league. I thought that was so cool. But we see a lot of cool things that he's doing uh with with the Mammoth there in Utah. So, I thought that was that was so show.
What adversity though is he talking about Utah? They were great. They lost a few games. They're great again. I think I think there was personal adversity with Clayton Keller. Um I don't know if
Oh, yeah. Oh, with him with his father passing away. Yeah, that's father passing away.
I thought he meant with the team not doing well. Yeah, with his father. Yeah, that's going to be Yeah, that's a dream come true to to do that. And it just like makes his dad so proud probably. That's right. Over there.
That's what he was talking about. I couldn't remember. I'm like, what happened where and then I just had to say it and we figured it out. But yeah, I think I saw he was a scratch though, Keller, which I was surprised by.
Oh, I don't know. I haven't looked at it yet. What are we gonna see? I think they had they might have JT Miller playing over him. That would just destroy Pasha. And uh Pasha has no show this week, as you know. He's just he hates hockey right now. We just heard from him. But G, what do you got?
Uh I mentioned it briefly. I'll just keep it quick. I just wanted to call DraftKings and uh Dave Portoy up to the show. Just an experience of a lifetime. uh this week being able to go out to Super Bowl being in a suite uh you know taken care of everything completely taken care of. So uh they didn't need to do that for us. So just wanted to call Dave. I it just I heard Fulli talking about it like it's just something like 10 years ago like you never expect to be sitting in a Super Bowl suite uh watching the Patriots play you know with all these Bartow employees and all these celebrities. So uh very very cool moment for me. So, just want to call Dave Portoi and DraftKings. Jeremy from DraftKings as well. Just an unbelievable guy. Wanted to call him up to the show as well.
Yeah. And Dave Dave's second team is Buffalo. So, next year when Buffalo makes the Super Bowl, let's all let's go to a suite again, Dave. That'd be great.
No, no, no. Oh, that's my, by the way, that's my bet of the year. I was talking about it at uh hockey last night. Learn to play. I might take the entire endowment of Troy youth hockey and place it on the Buffalo Bills to win the division again. This guy is just nuts. This guy is nuts.
Um, all right. My turn for a show we talked about a little bit last week. Brockville Winter Classic this weekend. I'm heading up there Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Play a couple outdoor games with the Penn's alumni against the Flyers alumni. Armdog set me up in this racket. So, uh, I guess it's all for charity. They're going to raise a ton of money up there. It's a whole city shuts down for this thing. There's a Harvey's. So, I'll be happy and uh just looking forward to a good weekend up there.
You're welcome. I'm glad it works out for you. It's great that it works out. You're a beauty. Way to go. You're gonna you're going to really impress up there, buddy.
You're awesome. Not so much on the ice, but I think in the room. No. And I think at like the little dinners of the gallas that they have, the fundraising events, you'll be up there like, "Oh, Buffalo Bills play of the year. Put everything on it." You know, like people love that, you know.
You'll be ripping it. You're perfect for that. So, good luck. Have fun up there buddy.
Thank you. Thank you. And uh now let's go over to the minesies. Arm dog. I got to throw to the minesies. The Olympic IOC I believe is how you would say it. I don't know exactly maybe a little bit of the TV viewing but like the blocking of everything. You know, we just heard from Henrik, our Swedish, our international insider that we had on our show just now, and like how strict it is with video and taking pictures and like on social media and like posting cool ass clips of like their athletes in their games and their events and like spreading that around and being able to see that like normal. But no, no, no, no, no, no, no. They chop your legs out.
They banish you. They shut your [ __ ] down. Everything's blocked. Like you can't see anything of an athlete or anything unless it's like completely owned right down the middle from either NBC who has the rights to do it, which I understand, but like you can't show a single thing. I think you get fined like a gazillion dollars if you show like the golden goal from Crosby in 2010. Like you cannot never see any of this [ __ ] It's no nowhere. It's nothing. And I don't get why they do that. I don't get how that's good for business. I don't get how that's good for these athletes and their brands and and and the games in general. I just think that's so mindsies and small visions cited and I don't understand it at all. And that's why I'm sending it down. Like I don't I I like I see a a headline on social media or on a post and it's like oh look at the awesome thing that this superhuman person did in this games that
everyone is is glued to the TVs for trying to find out information on these athletes that get shown like once every four goddamn years and it's like blocked due to like copyright infringement [ __ ] It's like what are you talking about? Like what are we doing? Why are you doing this to like uh viewers and fans of these athletes? And like I I don't get it. That's mindsies to me. I don't I I I it's driving me insane. Like they're taking down like Hockey Canada players reaction while being at a SK speed skating event probably because it showed a speed skater jump over another speed skater in short track with like a crazy almost accident. And that little like two second clip made them banish the hockey player reaction. Also, it's like, come on. What are we doing here?
This is like insane what they're doing. They're What is this? THE OLYMPICS. ONCE EVERY FOUR YEARS, Winter Olympics.
Not wrong. Holding everything hostage. It's just insane to me. It's crazy. I You know what else I found insane? Because I was I'm Snoop Dog pops up on my TV yesterday. I'm like, what's this guy got to do with the Olympics? And he's doing all this stuff. Do you know how much money he's getting paid a day over there?
No. Take take a guess how much per day per day? Like what? Like like Oh my god.
For the Olympics for the whatever it is 14 days of the Olympics. $5 million a day.
No. Is that a crazy one mil 1 mil or or 250k a day? I think it was $500,000 a day. So he's going to make Snoop. Good for Uncle Snoop.
But then like they got money to pay that, but they they won't let us show clips and stuff like that. I just I don't understand how it all works.
It's crazy. Wow. Like where where does all that money like Jesus? Crazy. Yeah. Yeah. He comes on and he showed like four things that were funny like these guys drying the the ski jump and putting the pebbles down on the curling rink.
500 grand for that for the day. Like this slinging it with the little I saw that.
He's that cool. Yeah, he's that cool. Snoop. All right, G. Uh, so I kind of mentioned at the beginning, set myself to the mindsies for offering to pay for the entire Wisconsin hockey team's bar tab one night, but also setting myself to the minds for uh just being like an uh an obsessed Patriots fan during this game. Like we're we're sitting in this box the whole time and all these celebrities are coming in left and right. I love networking. I'm a big networker. Love to just talk and get to know people. I didn't leave my seat like the whole time. Like luckily I was sitting next to John Ham so I could talk to him a little bit, but all these guys coming in and like I I I got I I'm getting on the airplane leaving and I'm like, "Wow, I I saw all these people, but I just didn't leave my seat to go talk to them because I was just so locked into this game." And I was like, "Oh, if I get up, I don't want to [ __ ]
up the Guju." But they didn't have any good juju. So, it just I'm I'm setting myself for the mindsies just for not taking full advantage of that box.
I get that. And that leads me in. I hope you didn't look like this guy on the plane when you got on there, G, because our coworker Mincy, this picture of the plane, I don't know if we have it to bring up, but I mean it's everything is wrong. First of all, you know, it drives me nuts in sweatpants. Number two, he's got his shoes off. Number three, that far of a lean back is just completely crazy. And then I don't even know. Is he laying on a buddy? I don't know who that guy is.
He's laying on Goldf Sam Goldfinger. The kid works at bar stool. He's he's crouched in the corner and he's pushed him. That's crazy. The seat recline, too. Like that is nuts.
What are we talking two hours in the air to Chicago from California? I mean, this brings it all back, though. I mean, he's got his shirt crumpled up on his boiler. He's laying there. It's hanging out a little bit. The seat is on the person's lap behind him. Just insane. But this brings it all back to like the biz house, like the the the wrecking of the wall with the wet trunks, the the chew on the ground, like the just the the craziness of like oblivious living. There's so many people like this in the world of oblivious living.
Let me ask you guys, would you say something? If you're if you're that seat, that aisle seat right behind him where you can see the guy's on his phone, his knees are pressed, the s the seat is reclined, and you know he ain't sitting in it, are you going to tap him and be like, I would push it forward, too.
Yeah, I would just do it myself. So, cuz so in case he would I don't want him to wake up since it's not my guy. Sure.
I just grab the head thing. I just look. Is he out? I just like [ __ ] boom. See you later.
His leg is going to get smashed by the drink cart within 10 minutes of sleeping. You're a rookie. You don't sleep like that cuz now she's going to wake you up.
Some guy Matthew said he's fighting him. We got a spirit. Is it spirits airline? That's perfect.
Clean it up. Clean up. We cleaned up the beer league. Now we got to clean up the flying.
Can we even bring in Pasha for this? Merl, my first thought when I saw this was Merles is gonna be pissed. Like Merles is going to be so mad at this. He He just needs his rules on the airplane.
Oh yes. This is That's the most insane picture ever, though. You got to imagine how a grown man do this there. That's the that in the chat. Thank you, Zack aka Zack in the chat. is like that is like how does a grown man do this? Like where's your how are you this oblivious to the world of people that you live in and around you that you can just behave in this manner without giving a [ __ ]
That has to be someone that right when the plane lands they grab the bag and he and he fires it up the aisle.
Oh yeah. No question. Oh yeah. He's the guy. He gets up oblivious. Like everyone's doing proper decorum and and and he's like, "Excuse me, I got to get out. They're like, "You're [ __ ] row 20, dude." Like you wait for the other rows.
Yeah, those people, you know, common decency, which um Pasha Posasha is a decent man. You We'll let him come on. Do we let him come on? Another addition of minds.
Uh yeah. Once again, my minds is devil's ownership. They need to wake the [ __ ] up. Your house is in disarray, in disorder. Wake up. clean house, get the ship, the train, whatever you want to call it, back on its tracks, back on course. Devil's ownership, mindsies, [ __ ] sakes.
Three. What a way to end the show. What a great way to end the show. By the way, someone in the chat just saying, "Bring back beer league heroes. Send us in some good beer league stories or some questions or whatever." We'll bring it back. We'll read it on the show. That'll be great. That's Those are always fun. We haven't done one of those in a while. Maybe next week we can do that.
We did a good job of cleaning up. You don't see the clips as much, but maybe I'll get some from this weekend. I'll get some stories.
Yeah, I get some stories from some folks, you know. Shower sheriff, that was a good one from year one of game notes. Like, we've had some really good
No wheelie bags. No. Yeah, that was hot. The guy with the freaking had the had the
I still get [ __ ] for that. In his bag. I still get [ __ ] cuz you told everyone I had a wheelie bag when we did that [ __ ] segment. So, I get people People will walk by me and be like, "You got that wheelie bag still in?" I'm like, "No, I never I never had a wheelie bag." Burrows was lying.
Oh, the beer swindler. The guy that was bringing the taking the beer back. Yeah, we got to get some of these back going again. We got to clean up beer leagues, too. Trying to clean up air travel, cleaning up beer leagues.
G doesn't have a wheelie bag, but he does have really weak, skinny wrists, so that still is a thing. Um, but what a show. Go enjoy the rest of the Olympics, Merles.
