uh welcome listeners or viewers to our podcast table read we are your producers and hosts Jonathan Gaffney and Sam locks yes and this pot this is a podcast where we invite comics and comic writers from the New York City Scene to read sketches that are generally speaking unproduced we also ask that our guests invite a funny friend along with us along with um them uh to help us with the reading process we are on a strong mission to create a fun and amazing space for Riders as they often go unnoticed while also enlightening the listeners to a typically grueling partial portion of the writing process we are not offering notes or creating a critique but rather we are enjoying the writing as is and bantering along the way today our guests are or I guess Jason Ty Smith Ashton Nicole eichelman oh your middle name's Nicole wow wow for a long time yeah learn something new every day middle name I had to go middle name wait
let's hear a bio let's hear some accolades about yourself yeah yeah like some sentences that provide context as to who you both are as people and why you're here reading in the first place we forgot to ask Jason for a Bible we forgot to ask Jason so now we're putting Jason on the spot for a bio a bio yeah Jason material um I'm from a small town uh Texas you'll never hear of it as long as I have anything to say about it um uh I went to college at Sam Houston State University I did I got my bachelor's uh in Mass Communications with the emphasis in Film Production uh then the pandemic hit and I was in a nice pit hole of Darkness until I climbed down and decided I'm gonna move to New York uh and I moved here last May and you went to the pit and I and then I then I went to the actual place I crawled out of the pit and went into another pit so yeah however that goes that's the history that's the short
version amazing and now you work at the pit and you produce shows and you have a really cool show that uh I was on and yeah it's called Teddy burns after dark and it's kind of like a radio show but also not but also not yeah it's a late night improv variety show in this format I put together of a late night radio show and Sam was on it with two other goons as a trio improv Trio it's Jazz it's Jazz yeah it was fun to watch you were there yeah yeah what about Ashton Ashton the beginning of mine sounds exactly like Jason's only I am Northeast uh Northeast Texas in a town you will never hear of um went to school I went to Junior College and then I went to Sam Houston State so financially it's always a good way to go I tell my kids that I taught children I don't have children um Todd School moved here and now hopefully after years and years I can do the thing I want to do which is act that's that's that's what we all
want we all want to do the thing that we want to do we all want to do the thing we want to do that's why we lived here insane amount of rent uh you don't even live here I don't even live here where do you live John where do you live I live in New Jersey oh wow um but yeah what sketch are we getting into first here um the first sketch is called a moment of silence a moment of silence yeah and for our viewers you will notice that we have upgraded we've stapled things now yeah yeah it's like we're official we're so much more legit so much more legit well this is highlighted uh two episodes in we're doing way better oh my God it's a well-oiled machine table read we all knew I was coming so I guess we just had to make the necessary upgrades yeah yeah I appreciate it like a couple of coons for you of course cool are are we ready yeah ready for this okay cool uh school cafeteria noon three friends Keeley Ali and Jane are
having lunch um thank God for pizza seriously a great way to end the first half of the day considering they look at each other knowingly all right okay but can we talk about the moment of silence today in Mr Fisher's class that was insane right Jane and Ollie agree quite a math Full Metal Jacket gonna be I just took that moment to think of my uncle who served in Afghanistan like I like remembering my grandpa my grandma I don't know which grandparents I like remembering my grandma Sheltering draft Dodgers during Vietnam I really hone in on the zaporean genocide of 2019 and the horrors of one guy wiping out half a civilization with just a glove and some rocks I Jane and Keely are gobs back Ollie that's that's awful wait isn't that the plot point from The Avengers Infinity War yeah but it was still a war oh my God Ollie like we're talking about real life yeah like my mom being a first responder
during 9 11 that's real or like my grandpa being at the base when the attack on Pearl Harbor happened well oddly enough that sounds a lot like me in Brooklyn during the 05 pot attack Ollie what pod attack these pods had been buried in the ground for a really long time and the government didn't know about it until the end of June 2005. when a secret organization activated them and they rose up on three legs and started vaporizing all of Brooklyn then they took over all Ollie Ollie Ollie yeah that's the plot line from War of the Worlds I would know because I had a crush on Tim Robbins all summer because of that movie are you just pulling traumatic War anecdotes from movies with war in the title oh okay look I know it seems that way but it's only because I'm avoiding something deeper and darker that I'm afraid to tell you Janet and Keely Comfort Ollie Ollie we're your best friends exactly please don't be afraid to trauma bond
with us all he takes a deep breath okay it was World War II okay that's real as [ __ ] my uncle was a bartender for an underground tavern in France one night one night there was a group of Nazis celebrating one officer who just became a father then another group arrived to meet an actress who they had been friends with for a long time then all of a sudden a German officer who had been listening in on the latter group discovered that they were actually spies and that the actress was a double agent my uncle tried to settle everyone down but there was a massive shootout and he got caught in the crossfire and Ollie goes silent Ollie that's terrible I'm so sorry it's okay though really he's picking me up early today and we're gonna go get some ice cream so oh my God his ghost haunts you what wait actress as a double agent underground tavern they were fighting in a basement yeah that's literally the scene from
Inglorious Bastards that's right Shane he played the bartender are you insane me insane Keith really have the hots for Tim Robbins did you see him and Josh egg and and see nice I noticed that you had misspelled bastards that's how it spelled that's how the script is spelled like the the title for it it's misspelled on purpose yeah a moment of silence well tell us what's what's that what's the gag of this what's the gag well I mean growing up in Texas you know we had to say the Pledge of Allegiance and then like the Texas pledge and then we did the national anthem and then the Texas song and it's in my head I'm like that's a lot that's a lot a lot of patriotism and like we don't even know what that means we will keep being brainwashed that's a lot of constant patriotism just being shoved down your throat I don't even remember when we stopped doing the pledge of allegiance like that's how bad it is like it just
kept just being fisted with it no it didn't red white and blue I would I gotta say I would love if this sketch happened to me in real life like I would love if someone like sat down next to me and they were like yeah so like my uncle he was like a genius uh janitor and he was working for Harvard so like yeah and just let them go and like yeah anyway he like he finally yeah that's why I think that people should go to therapist because he went to go see a therapist and he worked through his generational trauma like I would love that yeah I would love that so much my dream is that somebody sits down next to me and tries to like insert clear movie plot lines as their own uh that would slap did you hear about my dad growing up he like he ran like a daycare and there were like nine children in our house constantly and he became so legit that he had to file paperwork Let It Go Do you remember my time my dad was Thor
the Marvel the Marvel's piano hammer and he flew around he was bad he was extremely hot he did he did steroids um that was my dad no I love the sketch that was very strong uh have you have you um have you put that sketch up somewhere or have you just uh it actually went up last night it went it went great um everyone was committed everyone loved it um yeah we had our first uh sketch show last night my team that I'm a part of the bjorks the bjorks we went up last night at the pit um no no no we lost March Madness we we got what two rounds in and then got destroyed by not your average slumber party who's in that no idea no yeah but did any laughs did you get any unexpected laughs at some point um did you can't look at mine um I think it was I for me what I remembered when I was listening backstage is when Ollie would say wow that sounds like me during the o5 Pod attack but yeah that was the one that got the
best laugh I believe that was by mental reaction and then and then the the second the basement was brought in I was like [ __ ] I know what's going on here I know exactly what's going on I think what you were said in the audience and I was the one that got you was the basement right the second we started talking about a basement I was like I've been told it's a very Niche sketch because it's so movie specific like some people might just like go over ahead so I'm like all right whatever yeah I'm like it's not forever
our next sketch is pondering the pork pondering the pork um let's do it this is very close to pondering the poor and look I gotta say that before not everyone can see this pondering parentheses the yeah pork that's how it's free it's a very important detail a little edginess and um let's get into it cool cool cool cool um I will read the sage directions but I'm also playing one of the characters so let's do it everyone ready oh I'm ready cool I'm ready to ponder the pork interior biology class post lunch three students slash bandmates Davey the himbo leader Mikey the wreck and Jerome The Thinker are garbed in aprons and goggles a dissected pig lies before them miss hartigan the teacher walks in and announces all right class please be sure to follow along with the worksheet for today's dissection a fetal pig Davey raises his hand no Davey we will not be making BLTs after class Davey jeers with his peers

now on uh nutritional nutritional facts about your stuff mucus doesn't matter uh that's what it's going to be labeled as anything is um and I'm gonna act like it's my thing that I came up with this is fun uh did you put the SketchUp anywhere this has not been put up yet this was written specifically for this podcast where did they come from the gag where did it come from I don't even remember sometimes it's just stuff happens oh wait wait because I had to do something with oh I have a sketch another Sketcher I'm a part of coming up um Dayton uh venue pending but it's supposed to be like a high school based sketch show so all the sketches are based in high school and so uh our team is doing biology so I was like what can I do that's biology based but not like two hardcore biology and I was like biology life and then it kind of just like snowballed into this and I was like okay I like the bit of the one
kid you all we all have this one kid in our high school class you just they just think they're so deep and so edgy and so profound like mine the one that I had in my high school was deeply deeply obsessed with Russian communism and it was where they get very sad honestly he was so obsessed with the Soviet Union and we always had to be like dude [ __ ] calm down
but there's always yeah there's always one person always one person on a particular topic we grew up in Texas we would probably get sent to the office if we mention communism in a positive light yeah yeah more than likely yeah the big Big Red Scare still going on oh yeah Big Red Scare can't be trusting those Kami Pinko rats am I right yeah that's what I always say hell yeah brother and with that oh no you should oh but honestly you should make a schedule about just going to uh High School yeah yeah High School in Texas yeah I would write a schedule because everyone had like yeah a lot of guys everyone I wanted to sketch where everyone has them cowboy hats there were like nine times what they were supposed to be I was like would I imagine Texas everyone just walks around in cowboy hats absolutely ten times is made a cowboy hat that was 10 times as big as it should be but then there was God
yeah just just right yeah and then all the Texans just burn alive um I'll say this that was fun that was very fun uh Jason can we ask you some questions yeah let's go for it oh my God we want to ask you questions number one just as we were making fun of deep stuff it's about to get real deep question number one all right how long have you been doing comedy since no no not June since August oh I don't know like actually actively doing it I think it was towards the end of August when I took well level one improv has comedy always like been in your life you wanted to do try to do I mean have you been doing comedy your whole life I guess in my own way yes but it was just me and my brother coming up with bizarre scenarios of stuff happening around us like just seeing something happening at Walmart and then we just heightened it and then that was it and then we laugh and it's our inside joke and then that's it our senior
brother got ripped yeah so we riffed we actually made like small Instagram videos like back in the summer of 2012. it's like a thing yeah like Vine yeah Instagram so we had like what nine more seconds nine more seconds but like 15 seconds a thousand less viewers yeah exactly we just had our small town that we were in but they loved it oh that's great yeah a family the YouTube video that is five seconds long about you taking your dogs for a walk that was in college we had to do a five second short film and it was called dog walk and it was just a pun it's literally me opening we're just dog walking dog walks so it's literally me opening the door I'm like oh it's hot out here or no I said whoo shut the door and then I turned around I was like too hot out there for these dogs and then we cut to uh a leash attached to some hot dog a package there's just me pulling them off to the side come on that's [ __ ] yeah
that was made by you and your brother no that was just made by me yeah no that's great if that's like you know what interests into comedy that's okay five seconds and that was my introduction to you oh wow oh my God that's how YouTube uh uh I don't know it just popped up somewhere the past is fuzzy yeah a lot of stuff a lot of past racing things have happened since then are you guys okay um well I guess that answers our next question but our last question is where do you get your inspiration from what is your favorite color and what kind of grapes do you like do you like grapes at all I don't like the cotton candy grapes oh those are the sickening I don't know if that's controversial or not but oh I agree with you uh amongst the one before where do you get your inspiration from okay my favorite color is I guess blue I wear a lot of blue sometimes but since I've come to New York it's been mostly
black people call it the New York black people yeah yeah interesting I know I feel about this um and then what was the first question I guess the one that matters on this podcast no I don't you don't have to answer it if you don't want to well I also forgot it you could just talk about whatever I don't know what is there to talk about uh
uh self-care uh the process is for the most part just grabbing an idea kind of jotting down bullet points or ideas for it and then going out somewhere noisy where there's a lot of people talking because that I can like drown that out and just focus on because I'm and focus on writing on the script um because I'm very much pen to paper first I can't type it out because then it's just like a lot of bad I know I can backspace um just pen and paper I can scratch stuff out move stuff around well that's interesting you so you handwrite yes you you bullet point like beats or or like game moves or bids or do you do you first you bullet point those and then you write it or or or do you actually like literally write like intro day like actually right up uh it depends like if I'm ready to get into it and just see where it goes I'll start with that like actually doing that um so I'm not much of a planner that's
just a whole other story but sometimes I like just jumping into it and go um but here lately uh there's a sketch I'm working on right now like I actually had the points I wanted to go over there go over so that's a skeleton and then just filling that in for the first draft writing it out looking at me like okay and then going through and scratching stuff out and yeah I love that because like Reddit can't defeat you or like whatever you can't like do go to write your sketch and then like 13 seconds later just be Doom scrolling Twitter yeah um if you're writing on a pen and paper you can uh focus on uh the important thing in life which is getting the writing done doing a bit it's more intimate than like doing it typing it out first like I can like sit with it and like see my handwriting to see what I'm saying and what they're saying and yeah it's it's really fun doing that nice nice all right Ashton
who even is Ashton um My Life currently is not interesting as I said I'm a bit of a human startup right now looking for investors looking for some Capital behind you maybe later maybe if you were here could invest in Ashton now I would if I had a lot of money I would I would be an early investor in Ashton because uh wow that's uh that's gonna be a money maker when I see you at dollar signs in my head yeah yeah Ashton's gonna print money printing money like a ATM and I'm not going go inflation at the same time nice well I am currently looking for a job on indeed I'm there a lot cool um and then once I get some money or some Capital then I'm gonna get my headshots so I'm gonna read my my books and do something I think is what are your social media handles where can we I don't even know who Ashton is yeah we need to know your social media handles and we need to know if you have any shows going on if you have anything
going on plug yourself as hard as you can this is your chance to plug yourself and if and if you're human startup you can say listen invest in me uh this is my head shots um if you don't have shows coming up and stuff like that but first let's start with Jason Jason tell us where people can find you and what you have coming up if you have anything at all I don't want to be found I don't want to be plugged I want anyone to come out no okay you can find me on Instagram at f r v r m as in Monkey x d I can put that up on the screen yeah yeah just put it up on the screen like right here for the viewers or put it right here right over right over my face yeah please please do that for me um shows coming up I will be an old school sketch show at the pit on March 31st and April 1st um and then uh the show we were talking about earlier the late night improv variety show uh Teddy burns after dark will be April 14th at 11 30 p.m also
definitely be out before April 14th for sure I can say we can mark your calendars now so I don't see you there certainty I know you've listened and watched yeah we have about 30 listeners so hey hey I've spent a crowd of 30 that night yeah yeah that would sell the pit out I mean there's only about especially at that time slot yeah that'd be great I'll be thrown Ashton what about you um well you can find me next week at my two job interviews hopefully one of your prospective employers is watching this I am very dependable my greatest weaknesses I work a little too hard you can find me in the audience of Jason shows I'm usually there so since I moved here yeah dedication in my Instagram that I have not posted in for three months but I'll do that eventually is at Ash eichelman which is a-s-h-e-i-c-h-e-l-m-a-n woo we will also post that one right over to Jason right here right here my eyes censored yeah with our nice little
