Here we go. Live in LA, it's the herd. Wherever you may be, however you may be watching, listening, whatever the platform, thanks for making us part of your day. Well, I do this before probably about five different games over the course of the year. I will write down the top 10 players. Uh, and my my feeling is if whoever's got the most quality players, especially if the quarterbacks are pretty even, and I think in this space the quarterbacks are pretty even. Sam's got more experience, uh, both have big arms, both are athletic, both are coachable, both are tough, both can be a little reckless. I think the quarterbacks are pretty close. So, here we go. It is an annual Super Bowl tradition. It is a Wednesday. Here are

the top 10 players. Number 10, uh, Milton Williams, New England. Outstanding. He has changed their rush defense. Patriots now number one run defense in the league. Darnold's going to have to throw. Highest graded interior lineman in the entire postseason. Led all players with eight pressures in the AFC Championship game according to PFF. So, people thought he was a little overpriced. I wouldn't worry about that. He is a game altering interior Dlineman. Has been great. Worth every penny for the Patriots.

Number nine, Demarcus Lawrence, Seattle. What a year for him. It wasn't like he was a reclamation project, but he just got on a team where you couldn't double him as much. Led the Seahawks in force fumbles and fumble recoveries and defensive touchdowns this year. Uh led the Seahawks in sacks and pressures. It It almost feels like his body has changed. He He feels twitchier. He feels quicker this year. Uh a good cat. Dallas let him go. You know, everybody talks about Micah. Uh Demarcus Lawrence has just emerged as a big-time player. 11th highest graded edge defender this year.

Number nine. Number eight, Mike Owenu for a guard for the Patriots. We had him on last week as well. He's their best offensive lineman. He does not miss snaps and it's not a great offensive line. So, he was their only returning starter. No sacks or pressures allowed all postseason and nobody else in that offensive line has played at his level. Eighth highest graded guard this year. And I think he really matters in this game because I do think New England's tackles could struggle in pass pro. So, I think he's very important.

Number seven, Nick Aman Warary, the rookie from South Carolina. That dude is versatile. When you can get a guy who can provide sacks and coverage, dude's a safety and opposing quarterbacks have a 72.5 passer rating against him. He is really something else. A second round pick. Uh I remember draft day when he got picked, all the draft experts said that could be the best player in the second round. He has been sensational. Number seven.

Number six, Stefan Biggs. Play him in the slot. Play him on the sideline. Second highest graded player for the Patriots. You know, people talk about his personalities disruptive. You know, here's what I know. Line him up anywhere. These wide receivers where you can line up on the slot or the sideline, outstanding. Top 10 receiver, BFF, slot and on the outside. Stfan Diggs. Number six.

Number five, Drake May. He's young. He'll get better, but he's really good now. First quarterback to win three playoff games against top five defenses in a single postseason. He's 23 years old. He had a couple of bad halves. Had one against Pittsburgh early in the year. But again, this team had so many free agents and so many rookies playing key roles. Here's all I know. When the game's on the line against Denver, they asked him to run and him to make the big throw. That shows me trust from coaches. They dialed his number in the biggest spots in that Denver and Houston game. I can live with some mistakes for a rookie quarterback.

He's five. Number four. He's not a rookie year, too. Sam Darnold, um 30 and seven over the last two years. like May. There are times he can be a little loose with a football. He'll get it knocked out of his hands. Love his arm strength. Love his toughness. Love his coachability. Um, you know, Sam played nearly a perfect football game against the Rams defense. And that is saying something. I put him at four.

Number three, Kenneth Walker. Just like he was at Michigan State, he breaks tackles. Highest graded running back in the playoffs. Now, is he Christian McCaffrey in terms of versatility? No, Christian McCaffrey is one of the top three or four running backs I've ever seen, but what he provides, I mean, you go to that Ram game, what he provides, he makes people miss. Um, this year, second most missed tackles force behind Bejian Robinson. That is an additive player.

Number two, uh, Devin Witherspoon, the corner for the Seahawks, let him in tackles in the divisional round. Highest graded cornerback. Um, Puka beat him once, but it's there's an argument that's about as hard a position to play in the league. He has been great physical since he came out of Illinois. Um, you know, again, when you come in, they are going to test you as a young corner. He gets tested a lot and he is always up for it. I just love his mindset. I love his toughness. He can tackle. He doesn't shy away from contact. I love him as a player. Number one,

uh, JSN route running hands. These young receivers now, Omaron, St. Brown, JSN, they got the route tree figured out. I mean, it just I there's nothing I don't like about him. This year, when Sam Darnold targeted JSN, he had 123 passer rating. And you know these young receivers like a like a Puka or a JSN are good because teams are game planning to stop them and they are still repeatedly open. So there are my top 10 players. It is 6 to4 Seattle advantage. At number 11 I had Leonard Williams of the Seahawks who had a tremendous year. He has just been a stud forever. So I I've said this before. Um I think these teams are a lot alike. I think the weakness of both is the O line. I think the quarterbacks are aggressive that can make mistakes. I like the running games for both, the secondaries for both, and the defensive fronts for both, and the coaches are magnificent. I think it's a very even football game. I

think it's 2320. I've said I'm going to go out and say New England, and I'm from the Pacific Northwest. Uh underdogs and lower seeds do very well in this game. Speaking of great players, um Fred Warner is on in route very soon to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Four time all pro. This defense was not the same. Okay, so you know Seattle, you know you know all these guys. You've been playing against them despite your despite your injury. You know Seattle well. Here's Fred and thank you for coming on the show. We've said this before. You are the best linebacker in the game. I can remember when USC thought they had you and BYU got you and they talked about it for three years.

Um, here's what I worry about Seattle. Little inconsistent in the red zone. Very young. Young teams play with a ton of energy. They can get a little sloppy. When when you face this offense, what was the hardest thing for you to defend? What gave you troubles?

When I face Seattle's offense, you're asking. Yeah. You think you got banged up this year, but what what problems do they present for you? I mean, you were in meetings this year, even when injured, you know what they present.

Yeah, of course. No. Yeah, I think their offense has a lot of playmaking ability, and I think Sam operates their offense as well as anybody. And they run a similar scheme to us, right? Like Kubak came from uh coach Shanahan and his system. So, they they love to pair the run with the pass, open up the play action game, the boot fakes, and all those sort of things. Um, and so they they dedicated to the run game. And I think K9 gives him that ability right now. Kenneth Walker, um, with the way that he's playing, the ability to break tackles. I call him the Energizer Energizer Bunny because he's just constantly all over the place, man. He's running sideline to sideline, getting vertical, breaking tackles, making plays. Um, and JSN is obviously playing the best uh ball at any receiver in this league. Uh, so I think they're going to they're going to present a lot of uh problems for the Patriots defense.

You know, it is interesting with Seattle. Um, you know, people think about the rivalry with the Rams, but I when I look at Seattle and San Francisco, I sometime the Rams are physical, but they can be pretty. I mean, they that that offense can be really pretty. I look at Shannon's offense and I think physical, brute force. I look at Seattle and that's how I look at Seattle. Seattle's not pretty. Seattle's physical and intimidating. And when you does it feel different when you've played Seattle

and when you've played the Rams, do the games do the games feel different as a Ner?

Yeah, I think so. Uh, you know, I think the similarities in both is that there is kind of like that despise for both teams because of the divisional uh, you know, rivalry amongst both. But uh, yeah, I think they both do have kind of different schemes. McVey and Kubak like even though everybody kind of in our division seems to run the same stuff it's all same but it's different you know with with McVey you're dealing with Stafford and the fact that he can he can do anything he wants with the football and you know the drop back pass game manipulating defenses knowing schemes you know Seattle they're going to they're going to run the ball like they're not afraid to stick with the run because they know that ultimately that's what's going to get them where they want to go. It's a defensive minded head coach. Uh, you know, so he wants to lean to the defense, I feel like. So that's why he's not afraid to tell them, "Hey,

we're going to run the ball. We're just going to open up all the explosives in the pass game." Um, and so I think they're going to obviously lean on what's gotten him there when it comes time for Sunday. You were a teammate when he backed up Brock Pury. And though he didn't play a lot, Kyle Shanahan had told Kevin O'Connell, "Listen, this this kid can play." did when you were when he was not playing and you're watching Sam at practice, what were your over the course of a year, what were your uh initial thoughts on him and being a teammate with him, traveling with him, practice every day with him, lunch with him, what were your interpretations of Sam?

Yeah, Sam's a great guy. He was a great teammate. He fit right in. Uh, you know, that's why I'm so happy for his success and and the way that he's played throughout these playoffs. Of course, I wish he didn't play as well against the old Ners, but for him as a person, man, and being a former teammate of mine, I am happy for Sam. Uh, you know, and he's always had uber ability, like uber talent, the the ability to put the ball wherever he wants, uh, to manipulate arm arm angles and do those sort of things. You know, I remember he made a play when he was with the Jets and we played the Jets back in 2020 and he was rolling to, I think, his left and threw the ball like 50 yards downfield to somebody uh, for a huge gain or maybe even a touchdown. And I remember Kyle kind of kind of calling it out in the meeting room after the fact. And I'm I'm over there thinking like, okay, Kyle's got a lot of respect for this cat. And so it's

no surprise when he's able to do the things that he's doing, he's just kind of came into his own now where he's just done worrying about what everybody else got to say about him. Hey man, I'm just going to play the game. I'm going to play the position the way it's meant to be played and I'm going to trust my team, trust my teammates, and ultimately that's why they have a chance of winning the Super Bowl. the um I mean you played in two Super Bowls and I'm looking at it here 19 and 23 against the Chiefs.

So let's go to your first Super Bowl and you'd been a great high school college player and you you established yourself as a very good pro player and then there's there's there's game speed regular season, there's divisional rival speed, there's playoff speed and then there's the Super Bowl.

Take me to the first quarter of your first Super Bowl and just it's going a million miles an hour. Do you recall it? Was it a blur? Were you nervous? Take me to it, Fred.

No, it it it honestly is a blur. And the one thing I do remember vividly is remembering during pregame how great I felt. And I like ready for the moment I was. I don't know what if that was just being a naive young secondyear player who didn't truly understand the moment that he was in. But I truly was in the moment. I was like, man, I'm in the Super Bowl. This is a dream of everybody is to play in a Super Bowl. Well, first of all, of course, to play in the NFL, but as NFL players, to play in a Super Bowl and have a chance at winning one, uh, I think the game was actually fairly slow to me at that point. And of course, we didn't get it we didn't get it done at the end of the day. We all know that.

But, um, you know, it was it was an experience that I'll take with me forever. that first quarter you are kind of I think both sides are both kind of just get their footing and trying to just settle into their game plans because you you've dealt with for two weeks of preparation week of just doing interviews and all this other stuff that has nothing to do with the game and then you finally get to go out there and play. So you're going to you always see the teams kind of just got to settle into the game and then once then once that happens you go off.

Okay. So then you get to a second one. So let's go to your second experience uh because New England has an offensive coordinator Josh McDaniel. This is his 10th Super Bowl and I do think it's an advantage. You you you've seen everything. There's no question. So, go to your second Super Bowl, Fred. Compare it to your first.

Were you I mean, you you explained Give me the advantages to it where you were just maybe a little quicker, a little better prepared.

Yes. No, you're much more prepared because the thing you don't realize the first time around is how how draining the entire game is. Everything is longer. It's not just a regular season game where the the timeouts are longer, the halftime is longer. There's just so many breaks. The the the the uh the national anthem before the game t feels like it takes an hour. And by the time you're actually playing, it's like, oh my gosh. Like we were burnt out. I was burnt out by that fourth quarter in that first game. So the second time around, I made a conscious effort pregame, postgame leading the weeks leading up, I said, "Hey, we have to make sure we conserve our energy when we get to the sidelines because it's going to be a four quarter ball game where you got to have all your energy." Now, that game went on to a fifth quarter, right? We had to go into overtime.

And so, it is such a draining game and you got to make sure that you're physically prepared for that. And you got to remember these guys have been playing for over 20 weeks now, you know? So, it's it's a very long year.

So, even though you got injured, I mean, when I think of you, I had Cam Hayward on a couple days ago, and I when I think of Cam Hayward, I think team captain, you know, IQ, EQ, you know, I remember you you weren't a guy that just left. you you were part of this team even though you were injured. Um, and there's been a lot of stories about San Francisco's injuries. Uh, I mean, some of the stuff sounds almost conspiratorial. I don't I don't know the answer. Take me to what it's like to be an elite player.

I think your first big injury and not be able to play. What did you feel like you were contributing? Uh the short answer is no because you just it feels so horrible being on the sideline sitting in a box during the games. Of course, you know, I am around the building and I'm trying to help out where I can, especially to my my young linebackers who are filling in for me and trying to be there for them. But it it is so alienating when you go through an injury like this where you have to sit out a a significant amount of time um because the team moves on without you, right? like they all got to prep every single week for a new opponent while you're over there doing rehab for your injury cuz you got to make sure you're returning better than you were before the injury. So, it it does become two separate worlds that you're living in. And so, that's why when it those worlds were merged again in the playoffs

where I I had a chance of coming back for the NFC Championship game, it was like it it was a little strange coming back for the first time cuz it was like, man, these guys have all been off playing an entire season and now I'm coming back fresh as a daisy ready to go out there and, you know, out to practice. I'm like, "Hey man, where's all the energy at?" And everybody everybody been grinding for weeks.

Yeah. So, when you were in your Super Bowls against the Chiefs, they were the team everybody talked about. It's Momes. Oh my. Sensational. And even you're although you're the ners, you were not getting as much attention as the Chiefs were. Well, similarly, the Patriots, nobody's talking about them. It's the Seahawks. It's the the the dark side defense. It's the redemption story. Sam Darnold, they're the favorite. Is there an advantage when you even though the NerS are never truly an underdog? Obviously out west, they're like the Yankees, they're Niner fans everywhere, but the Chiefs were becoming America's team.

Was it an advantage for Shanahan and for the team being the less discussed team in the underdog, at least in the view of the football world?

Well, it was only an advantage had we won the game. So unfortunately since we didn't win either of those games, you know, I don't know if it was an advantage to not be talked about, but at the end of the day, man, all the talk leading up to the game has nothing to do with what the actual game is, right? It's all about, you know, the the the reason why you got there in the first place, your offense, your defense, and your special teams. And however you've been playing through the playoffs, whatever you've seen from both teams is probably what you're going to get on Super Bowl Sunday. Now, I will say the Patriots have had to play in some really bad weather games throughout the playoffs. Obviously playing in Foxboro and then playing in Denver. Uh those are extreme conditions, so you don't really get a true sense of how the offense is is going to play, right? Especially going into a Super Bowl where you're in

sunny California and now you can really air that ball out cuz I think all season long the thing that was to Drake's uh advantage playing quarterback was being able to throw the long ball, right, and and complete these explosive passes. So, I'm interested to see how their offense operates, especially with a young guy in Drake uh Drake May and in the biggest of lights. Is he going to be able to handle that and just play the ball that he's able to play with? Sometimes you want a guy who doesn't know that he's in a Super Bowl because then he just goes out there and just slings that thing. So, we'll see how it goes.

Yeah, know Fred, it's a really good point. People are downgrading New England. They've played in blizzards against elite defenses, right? You This is Seattle's defense is good, but the Rams had success. They are good, but the Rams had success.

New England's playing in bad weather, which would make a great offense look ugly. So, I think we've downgraded New England. Go to the go to the good weather games against good teams. They they split with Buffalo, had one bad half against the Bills. This is a real offense with guys. I think they're better on the perimeter than people give them credit for. Okay. You're working with Experian. Tell me about it.

That's right, man. Experian, they they're helping you save time and money at the end of the day. We all know about those unwanted subscriptions that we rack up over time. You you subscribe to something, you don't use it, and it gets buried, and you're just constantly paying that that small little $5.99 at $10.99. You download the Experian app and they help you get rid of those unwanted subscriptions. So, we call them your uh your BFF, your big financial friend.

For the record, I had my top 10 players in this game. I went JSN, Devin Witherspoon, Kenneth Walker, Sam Darnold into Drake May, Stfan Diggs, Nick Almond Warry, the rookie, uh Mike on Wenu.

No middle linebackers. I didn't. I know it. Well, you know what, Fred? After you, nobody compares. So, what's the what's the point?

I love that answer. I love it. What's the point? Hey, uh yeah, congratulations on an amazing career. Credit to the game and I appreciate you stopping by.

Thanks, Colin. You're the man. You bet. Um yeah, I mean it's it's uh he he is absolutely great.

Didn't we talk about uh players as coaches? Listening to him, does he not sound like a coach? That guy just breaking stuff down like in like a math equation. I mean, he's good.

Yeah. I mean what's remarkable is what Salah did with that defense. They lost to Bosa and Fred Warner and were actually okay. Not great cuz they couldn't get a pass.

Not great against Seattle, you know, but they were fine otherwise. Uh my top 10 pick, do you think JSN's the best player in the game?

So I thought the biggest takeaway, yes, is JSN, but the biggest takeaway was all four guys at the top are Seattle. We've been doing this for three years. I don't recall any game where four players from one team have had the top four spots. To me, that means Seattle has all the high-end talent in this game.

Well, I think Fred Warner really pointed on something. So, Fred's like, "Yeah, they've been playing in bad weather. Everybody is saying this about New England." Well, I mean, the offense is a bit of a mess. You ever played in a 31 mph wind in Denver?

Okay. So, also they played great defenses in bad weather. You know, the double whammy. I think New England's offense, and again, I think it's an underplay, but it has not looked explosive at all over the last month. You're playing an awful Northeast and then Denver weather.

Christian Gonzalez, a name that um he was 12. Okay. So, I have a Leonard Williams, Seahawks at 11, Christian Gonzalez 12.

Interesting. Okay, listen. I can't hate it. I mean, two guys from the secondary

Seattle. Do you know who led the NFL on explosive plays this year and Drake May and the Patriots?

Yeah. And yet our are our the narrative is, you know, they can't move the ball.

It's boom bust with them. Yeah. It's loud. It's the Texans pass rush. It's really bad weather.

And look look at that uh game against the Broncos. They didn't have any explosive plays except the Drake May run a pivotal one. And then against the Texans, the bomb to booty who makes an unbelievable one-handed catch. If those plays don't hit, those big plays, they don't have much of an offense, Colin. And now you're going up against this brick wall in Seattle.

I don't think the Seahawks defense is a brick wall. I think it's good. Okay. But I watched immobile Matt Stafford twice.

The guy's seen every defense in his life. Plus, he's got Shawn McVey behind him.

Well, I I like Josh McDaniels, but I think the coaching is pretty good in this game.

Go Seahawks. Here we go. It is a Wednesday. It is Super Bowl week. We're live. We're in Los Angeles. It's the herd. Wherever you may be, however you may be watching us. Christian McCaffrey stopping by today. Fred Warner, Chris Long. And as always, I do it for the big games. I did it for the AFC Championship. I did it for the NFC Championship. I I get a notepad and I write down the 10 best players in the game. And I'll have that uh either later this hour or top of next hour. So, I've I've worked at seven different corporations in my life. Been very fortunate. And there's been a lot of different leadership styles. Uh, I would say this though, when a culture or a business is broken, one style is highly effective. Conflict.

The Bears were broken. The Patriots were broken. The Broncos were broken. The Chargers were broken. And they brought in coaches that had only really one thing in common. They'll get in your face. They don't avoid conflict. Mike Frabel came into a broken franchise. I know Gerard Mayo was only there for a year. It was a mess. And the media loves fluff pieces on nice guys. I know Mike, he got mad at me once on text cuz that's who Mike is and he never holds grudges. But I remember when Mike McDaniel got that dolphin job. He's a nice guy and he's fun and he's quirky.

And I kept asking the question, is he going to stand in a room of 55 alphas and kind of intimidate them? And they're worried about keeping their job or or a DNP. And two years after he took the job, you saw a bunch of stories leaking doesn't command the respect of the room. Players are working him. So, just a reminder, Bill Walsh, Jimmy Johnson, and uh Bill Bich, they demanded excellence. They didn't request it. It It was demanded. And there were two organizations this year to me that totally felt broken. The Bears, Ben Johnson got hired. And the Patriots, Mike Rael got hired. Offensive guy, defensive guy. And Bears fans are funny in Chicago. They come up to me all the time. You're so hard on Caleb Williams.

And I always say, Ben Johnson's harder. Stop seeking comfort. You finally got a quarterback. Don't lecture people on how to handle him. Bill Bellichic was on Tom Brady's butt 20 years in demanding excellence. Oo, Caleb Williams improved. So what is he playing in this game? Drake May is. Sam Darnold is. There is no woo. I arrived at quarterback. Go ask Tom Brady and Drew Brees. Every season's a new season. Football is hard. It is violent. And it is precise. And there is a requisite level of intensity and conflict that is absolutely necessary. Mike McDaniel's a good guy. Mike Vrabel jumped into the middle of fights during training camp. I mean, you watch those old Jimmy Johnson clips and Bill Walsh clips. I watched an unbelievable documentary on Netflix last week. Miracle, the Boys of 80. It's on Lake Placid on Her Brooks. Rest in peace.

Her Brooks scared players. Nobody Nobody said nice guy. Even his kids acknowledged he was tough. He was demanding. He didn't sleep well. and Herb Brooks achieved something that an average coach wouldn't because great coaching and great bosses take you to a place and a company to a place you couldn't get in your own and you couldn't get with average leadership and so when I was hearing these stories early where Vrabel's jumping into fights and I know a lot of people through the years that have dealt with Vrabel he does not hold grudges Bellich would see rolling his eyes at you once a year.

Snap. But he held grudges. I've been told this by multiple people. Vrabel will snap at you as a reporter three days a week. Never holds a grudge. And I think that's instructive. I I I think grudgeolding is bad management. But when I think of Rael and Ben Johnson and Harbaugh and Shawn Payeyton, some offense, some defense, some young, some, the one thing I think is incredibly comfortable with conflict. And Tom Brady was on yesterday and I said I think it almost plays into his favor. The Patriots are underdogs. Everybody's talking about Seattle. That totally plays into Vrabel being able to go to his players and make them uncomfortable and tell them again, no pandering, no soft speech. Nobody thinks you can win. Here was Brady yesterday on Mike.

No one. Brael, he's probably got every bit of underdog material up everywhere. We were 14point underdogs in 2001. Braves was part of that team. Believe me, Colin, if you pick the Seahawks, I'm sure he's going to be telling the entire team that Colin Coward picked the Seahawks. We're underdogs. That's just the mentality. And you know what? That's okay. I mean, someone's got to be that. They've been clutch. They've played good defense. They've played good offense. They've been explosive plays, surgical plays. They run the ball. They've had explosive runs. They've really found a lot of different ways to win. And that's why they're that's why they're playing in this game.

And as of Wednesday, I still like New England close. Um, so I read a story this morning. The headline was, "Who has the most to gain or lose legacywise in the big game?" And they list 10 different people. I love Mike McDonald. You have to have a legacy before you can improve or deteriorate it. Um, like the guy's like 38 years old. He doesn't have a legacy yet. Now, you can change Mike McDonald's trajectory, but you're not changing his legacy on this list. And really, it's the only player on this list who you can change their legacy. And you know who it is?

It's Sam Darnold because legacies, I mean, Sam's was already engraved in stone. They wrote it down with a Sharpie. Bust. He wins. And by the way, you can feel the tension last week in Seattle. You can feel his legacy. We judge Sam Darnold interceptions different than Drake May. If Drake May throws two picks, it's not a headline. If Sam Darnold throws one and they lose, that's the headline. Last week against the Rams, he was virtually perfect. In fact, people talked about Matt Stafford's game. Actually, Darnold was better cuz Stafford wasn't good on third down and Stafford was un was watching Darnold.

Darnold was unbelievable on third down. The key down. So in this Super Bowl, there is one player who can change his legacy. It will it will change the way he is introduced. In fact, I w I was reading stories this week and there's literally something happening in football and I believe sort of the jet fuel for it is Darnold where people are now saying we judge quarterbacks too early. We quit on quarterbacks too early. That's cuz it's Sam Darnold. Nobody wrote that story a couple years ago because of Gino Smith in Seattle.

That is a Sam Darnold story. There is no quarterback ever that's won a Super Bowl after being on five teams. He was a buff. It was engraved in stone. It was written in Sharpie. It's not a new chapter. It's a new book. But I will tell you this that when I watched Darnold, and I don't think I'm unique or singular in this. when I watch him when I watched him against the Rams I watched him nervously and I wondered it it is Sam doesn't play nervously but I thought we are just going to judge Sam more harshly and and that tells me he is the one guy that comes into this game who can change his legacy because you know how it works if Sam loses and doesn't play particularly great that Ram win disappears vanishes into the ether Nobody cares. Nobody cares. Drake May has played poorly in the playoffs. If Drake May plays good enough to win, not even well.

Oh my god. Drake May was a Super Bowl. If Sam Darnold plays okay, but has an untimely pick, it will be You can't trust Darnold in a big game. What about last week? Well, who played last? I I don't remember that game two weeks ago. So, here's Mike Vrabel on what he sees on film with Sam Darnold.

He's handled it well. I think that, you know, again, there's a willingness to stand in the pocket and there's a willingness to progress through. Uh, a lot of talent. Um, I think his courage to stand in there. I mean, the Rams nailed him and he and he completed an unbelievable pass to to Cooper on the sideline. So, he didn't shy away. He didn't didn't duck. Didn't fade back. He stood there and uh and faced the fire, which what you have to do in this league if you're going to be an elite quarterback.

I still think I'm going to take the points. I think it's low scoring. I think there's several field goals. I do think Seattle has more good players, but not that many more good players. Jmack, I think you and I see the same kind of game. A lot of it between the 30s. Both defenses excellent. Both O lines okay. Quarterbacks both can be a tad mistakrone if pressured. Um I think it's pretty low scoring.

I would totally agree. The unders coming down. I saw it at 45 yesterday. Um it just people are concerned with this Patriots offense. Can they do anything against a fierce Seattle defense that plays nickel the entire time?

So I went um I have a relationship at the school that I went to and uh with somebody at the university who is friends with a current coach in the AFC.

Okay. Uh he is a current position coach in the AFC and they are close. I I I know my friend, but I don't know the coach. And he said the coach in the AFC, and I won't tell you what team that has played the Patriots says he thinks New England is going to struggle to block Seattle's front.

He thinks New England is going to have their hands full blocking Seattle's front. Now, I I also think um New England's front and their secondary are outstanding. So, but that's I I think it's a very um I mean I told you that I think it's got a 2317 feel to it that it just feels, you know, 2420 that kind of feel to it.

Seattle doesn't have a Will Anderson coming off the edge. But what they do have is just waves of defenders coming with on the blitz and you don't know where it's coming from up the middle, left, right. I do wonder though on Seattle's side, Colin, I don't know how to say this politely, but is there any concern at all that Sam Darnold maybe reverts to being Carolina Sam New York Jets?

I think here's the bigger deal. If you bracket JSM, who's their number two receiver?

Well, Rasheed Shahid has zero touchdowns in nine games receiving with the Seahawks.

Well, yeah. Rasheed Sahed is a special teams phenom. Yeah. and it is a singular sideline over-the-top throw, which they did last week. Yeah.

If you take out Stfan Diggs, I still think they have some interesting pieces. New England does.

Booty's pretty pretty good on the outside. Very explosive. So, it's to me um I I I I think it will be a defense even when Brady played for the Patriots and I think Vrabel has Bellichic's sort of sensibility. Tom was never a big first quarter or Super Bowl guy. New England's going to come in. It's going to be much very much feel it out. You're not going to put Drake May in bad spots.

Seattle, who I think probably believes they have better personnel slightly, is also not going to get hyperaggressive early.

It's a first quarterback for May and Darnold. You could see a very conservative, it's like a boxing match with two great fighters. First couple of rounds, nobody nobody wants to be put their chin in danger. I could see a very conservative first quarter, and I I I really have a feeling special teams will play a factor.

I think when your defenses are both great, your O lines are the weakness, your quarterbacks are good, but can make mistakes, I think the margins, I think the special teams will play a factor

and their edge there goes to Seattle. Yeah. Yeah. I mean that those special teams was the Rams liability while they're not I mean you said even after the Seattle Rams game you thought the Rams were better. You were not the only person saying that.

Wow. Come on. Special teams were a huge factor all year for Seattle. Today's show is brought to you by our presenting sponsor, Hard Rock Bet, Florida Sportsbook. It's big game week on Hard Rock Bet. Seattle a four and a half point favorite over New England. For games like this, basic bets just don't cut it. Here's a parlay. I like New England plus five, under 45 and a half points and under one and a half passing touchdowns for Darnold. I think Sam takes a lead. They play a semic-conservative game and the game is fairly lowcoring.

Patriots keep it close, but you know who the better team is. Hard Rock Bet also loaded with special props. It just there are things happening you didn't read about in any book. And you can read all of them. By the eighth kid, you're like, well, they parent themselves. And so Shawn McVey admitted his first Super Bowl, he overthought the room. He admitted like, I got worked by Bellich. Well, Bellich had been to so many. So, Seattle is favored, and they should be, but there's two things that worry me about Seattle. Number one is they're young. Second youngest team. You get great energy with youth, and you get more mistakes. They're second league in giveaways. They're not very good in the red zone. They they can get reckless, but you get unbelievable jump through the television energy, but there are no young teams that are generally super

efficient, and Seattle can leave points on the board. The second thing I worry about is actually New England's Josh McDaniels who's been in nine of these things, his night baby. He knows how it works. He's been there. And Clint Kubak and Mike McDonald are excellent. But you can read books. You can watch as much film as you want. Stuff is going to happen in this game and pressure is going to be delivered you have never faced. Like, you know, the old saying, act like you've been there before. much easier when you've actually been there before.

And Tom Brady talked about one Super Bowl and just the magic of Josh McDaniels the night before. He and I at 10:00 on Friday night after seven plays are done are watching red area film of the Seahawks defense. Okay, all the hay is in the barn. Practice is over. We got no more shots at practice. Josh and I come up with about three or four plays on that Friday night between a 10 and 11 o'clock at night. We walk through the plays. That's one particular play you just showed on the screen was one of the plays that we installed on the Saturday morning, the Sunday before the game that we put in. We walked through them and we threw touchdown passes on two of those two of the plays that we installed on that Saturday morning.

And I'll I'll give you an example. Seattle's a number one seed from the NFC. New England is the number two seed from the AFC. The lower rated seed, New England, has done very very well in this game. Uh last 14 matchups, I think the lower seed is is has won what 14. There's some crazy number. I saw it yesterday. The lower seat and I think they don't have as much pressure. They're an underdog. Nobody talks about them. They feel they can take more chances. I I always feel like when you go into a game and you feel you have the better team, and Seattle absolutely feels that.

Are you less willing to make alterations and take risks? New England's almost a five-point underdog. The lower seed, strangely, does very well in this game. And I think a lot of it's mindset. The media doesn't pay attention to you. You can use that as ammo all week with your players and coaches. We're the underdog. And I think you come into games more willing to take swings, be a little more aggressive when you're the underdog. I think that's a big advantage cuz I think these two teams are much closer than people think. But one is coming in as a I mean, you get to four to five points favorite in the Super Bowl.

Neutral field. I mean, if this game was in Seattle, they'd be what, a touchdown favorite? That's a big favorite in pro football. So, that's I I'll say it. It's there is a sense Seattle's up here and New England's a notch below. I don't necessarily think that. I do think the one thing that would worry me if you're a Patriot fan is that old line, and you'll know it by the second series. You saw it against Denver. New England was struggling to block Denver's front. First couple of series will give you an idea of what New England can do offensively.

Jack with the news. NO, NO, NO. TURN ON THE NEWS. THIS is the herd line news. Let's start with everybody's favorite Drake May. Colin, he had a great second season. He'll probably finish as runner up in the MVP race making his first Super Bowl appearance. and uh his running back Ramandre Stevenson spoke about how much Drake May's leadership has grown this year.

The leap he's taken this year I think uh is the leadership role. Uh he he he's he's a great leader. Uh he demands the offense to do certain things. Uh he's looking at he's looking at how we practice it how we practice and then he has something to say about it the next day. Uh whether if it was a good good practice, a great practice or you know a not so good one. So he's just a vocal leader. uh commands the offense well and it gets the guys going.

Their running game is interesting. So Trayvon Henderson and Stephvenson, both good backs. Trayvon Henderson early to mid-season were like, "How come they're not using him?" When they did, he was often very explosive. So a lot has been made of Seattle's run game. I actually like both of New England's running backs.

They're they're well built. Now, interestingly, I didn't realize this Drake May, if he wins the Super Bowl, would be the youngest quarterback to do so. Younger than Ben Rothllessberger when he won it with Pittsburgh. So May is way ahead of schedule at this point, right?

Well, and if you go back to the Big Ben game, they were holding his hand. Yeah. Like they didn't want Ben Rothllessberger to decide outcomes. Those Pittsburgh teams, that's not Drake May.

Yeah. Uh Drake they're I mean Drake May almost had a brutal interception against Denver. I think it was his first throw off to the left.

It was a slant pattern. It it could have easily been a pick six. So, the coaching staff is they're letting Drake May I mean, what did they lean on late in that game to make the play? Drake May's legs. Yeah, they called Drake May's number in Denver. So, this team, this is not a Big Ben situation where you're kind of hiding him.

They're not doing that. They're putting the ball in his hands on big third down sideline throws and big third down runs.

Yeah. Well, we we'll see how Drake performs against the great great Seattle defense. By the way, um, per many of these analytics guys, the Patriots played the easiest schedule this century. And I we'll just add that that kind of helps a little bit when young Drake May's cooking. Oh, he's playing a bunch of teams that fired their

No, we said that when you look at New England's schedule, it it's honestly, it's a lot of Jets and Giants and Cleveland and

Dolphins a lot. Now, they blew out Carolina. Okay, so the Rams struggled twice with Carolina and they did beat Buffalo. Uh, they had they had like two really bad halves. They had a really bad half at Pittsburgh and a really bad half against the Bills. The one thing they both played the Steelers and the Steelers played Seattle close in the first half. Seattle destroyed the Steelers in the second half

and the Steelers destroyed New England I if I recall late in the game. Yeah. So my take is they have a common opponent here.

I mean it was week three again Drake May. So, to me, just eliminate September, start October with the Patriots, and that's the team I think you'll see.

Yeah, they're pretty good. Uh, all right, let's move to George Pickkins and the Dallas Cowboys. Boy, what a season. Pickings had 93 catches. 1,400 yards, nine tuies. I will point out, he ended the season kind of sluggish, not big numbers in the final six games. Here's where it gets interesting. He's a free agent. Pickin says he wants to stay, but believes the price has gone up for his services. You got to love it when he's out in the media telling people my price went up. Um he also thinks that the result is out of his control. If he's franchise tagged, the number they're looking at is about 28 million. There's no way.

No shot. That would place him around 13th highest paid receiver next season. Let's go look at the top 10 highest paid wide receivers in the NFL. Find me the playoff wins this year.

Okay, so Jamar Chase was number one. Didn't make playoffs. Did not make the playoffs. Justin Jefferson was two.

Uh did not make the playoffs. CD Lamb did not make the playoffs. Uh DK Metaf did did in Pittsburgh

and then what did he do in the playoff game? Two catches won on the first drive. Garrett Wilson, my guy with the Jets

didn't make uh they narrowly missed the playoffs. Uh Terry Mcccluren sixth highest APR,

by the way. I love Terry Mccur Mclloren. Then he got paid. He didn't have a good year.

Not great. Uh AJ Brown obviously here we go. Uh average per year on the screen.

All I'm saying Brown is the it's the male. Shows up every day. Like I don't he's just great. Brandon Iayuk

didn't play Tyreek Hill off all year. T Higgins Jaylen Wadd. So folks I mean the answer to the test is right here.

Yeah. So where do you put where do you slot pickings in that area? I don't I don't know. I mean they're all I mean I my favorite of that group is Omaron St. Brown. I would say in terms of consistency I think Jamar Chase and Justin are just different level athletes. Um, they're all good, but I I mean Jamar Chase and Justin athletically, I mean the truth is my favorite receiver is JSN. And part of it is I don't get a lot of ego and he's inexpensive

on the rookie deal and is the one position that college football furnishes the NFL with about 15 guys a year who can immediately play.

So if you want to play Kate Pickkins, you like that alliteration. Um, instead of giving him the franchise tag, maybe you just say, "Hey, we'll give you 30 mil a year. We'll bump you up a little higher. Again, I don't like that,

but you It might not be the worst thing in the world to lose. Dallas gave up a third and I think a fifth. Was there a third?

Jerry's not good at these deals, but if you give him 30, that's several spots where you're not going to have any playmakers, whether it's defense, offensive line.

What's wrong with Ryan Florenoi and CD Lamb or drafting a guy in the second or third round? I I I I don't think wide receiver is where I look at Dallas and go, we've got problems. Dak Prescott has elevated everybody. He elevated Pickkins, CD Lamb, Amari Cooper. I I I don't worry about

the Cowboys always to me that they they've always had a number one it feels like and they've got several threes, several guys. I I don't think that's a position of need. And I again I think there's they got they have two first round picks. I've said it before. You can move down and get another second or third. That's where you get your receiver.

Um you become the Bengals if you sign pickins to a long-term deal where you have you're topheavy at wide receiver and your defense stinks. That's the horrible. Yeah. All right, Colin. Final story. This is getting interesting. The trade deadline is Thursday. Giannis still on the market. I'm sure you saw the video yesterday. Remember four to six weeks with a calf injury. Giannis mysteriously was working out looking good with the side shuffles almost like he wants to get traded. Colin, according to Mark Stein, if Giannis does not get dealt by the deadline, a team to watch this summer is the Los Angeles Lakers. They have $95 million coming off the books. They will build around LeBron, Austin Reed. They have a lot of money.

What do I get? Milwaukee. What? Well, that's a bit of a problem. Um, I Mark Markstein does not have that deal in place of what it would take take to get

What do I I get no bad contracts, which is what they don't want. They don't want to take on bad contracts, which would they likely get for some of these other teams.

They get Austin Reeves for sure. They get Austin. I I don't love Ruy Hamura for sure.

Ruy Hatchima. You get good contracts on They could give up three first round picks in the summer. Yeah,

that's not the best deal. Well, well, the problem is what is the best deal? And it's a gold.

The New York Knicks could give me OG. I don't think the Knicks are going to do that. They're all the reporters are saying right now, Knicks are standing down. They like what they they like their team.

Well, they should like their team. The Knicks have a good team. Yeah. So, Knicks go to the finals. Are they Are they parting ways with OG?

The Knicks future is fine without Giannis, right? Okay. The Warriors future they've already bailed on. I mean, they they've already said Kaminga, Jordan Pool, young guys, not interested. The Warriors want to win now. So, the Warriors would give up three or four first round picks. You could have Kaminga gives you 23 a night. A couple of young guys like that. To me, the Knicks don't need Giannis to be a viable team for the next three years.

Okay. So, if I said you can have Kaminga, a poo poo platter, you know, Jimmy Butler's expiry, all that and picks, or Austin Reeves and uh good contracts and picks, which would you take, Kuminga or Austin Reeves?

I mean, Austin Reeves a model citizen. Everybody loves him. Well, Kuminga's Kuminga's what? Been fighting with Steve Kerr for for two years. Like, how does Steve Kerr not like him? I'm just saying Mark Stein is is at the forefront of this. Very interesting. If the Lakers

Jason, what' you say? Uh, Warriors can trade one more first round pick. Yeah, Draymond Green, by the way, your guy Draymond on the block now. Warriors are a disaster. Get Steph Curry.

I think the one that intrigues me is the Knicks because I don't think they need him.

The Yeah, that's the thing. They'd be giving up too much if you're giving up Towns and

I just don't think they're that far off. I really don't. They're probably going to the finals this year.

Yeah. Jack with the news. Well, that's the news and thanks for stopping by. The herd lie news.

There is um if you guys watch Cooper Flag, my lord, what we're seeing. Who is the last college basketball player to the NBA this good this soon? I in my opinion, it's Duncan and Larry Bird. This kid is unbelievable. Also the 10 best players in this game, Fred Warner, the Ners in LA. It's the herd.
