Welcome to the Herd's official YouTube channel. Make sure to like and subscribe. Don't forget to check out the Colin Coward podcast, all of our NFL instant reactions, and more football content. He is joining us now live, seventime Super Bowl champ. So, um, you were known for preparation. I think a lot of things you were known for, but more than anything, almost a uh a healthy obsession, right? Most successful people a little bit
or unhealthy obsession. One of those two. I'll be I'll be diplomatic, but I would say this. Sean McVey admitted after losing to the Bellich. He said, "I overprepared. The game got into my head."
Is there a danger for like a Drake May or a Sam Darnold? Thinking, man, I I've got to be locked in. All of a sudden, it's paralysis by analysis. You went to so many
that you could judge them based on that. Your first one, your second one. Is there a danger in that? First of all, I'm going to apologize for the drill that's going on above my head right now. I'm in an apartment. They're literally doing I don't know, redoing the kitchen or something. I'm trying to figure this out.
Um, you know, I think being overprepared, at least in my opinion, I wasn't the type of player that could ever feel like I was overprepared.
Yeah. The more information I got, the better. I loved having two weeks to prepare um for this Super Bowl game. Over a period of time, it just got more important for me to double down on all the processes that I thought could prepare me for the game. And the more you were to give me, the more I could handle. I love that part of the preparation. You know, I will say some players don't do great with that.
That's right. So, some some players are opposite. Some players, they just want to know what they need to know and then they want to go out there and play free. I totally understand that. I think a guy like Ray Lewis, a guy like Ed Reid, they wanted as much information as they could get. That would be their way of preparing and feeling like I have all the answers to the test now. I get to go out there and play very freely. So, could there be a danger in overpreparing? Maybe overthinking, but not overpreparing. I mean, you got two weeks to prepare. This game you're going to remember for the rest of your life.
That's the best part about this game. Win or lose, you will be remembered for this game for the rest of your life. So, you want to make sure to the best of your ability going into the game, you feel like you give your team the best chance of succeeding, which means you have to prepare as if this is the only thing that's going on in your life, which the reality is that's all that should be going on in your life. So this a different way of asking this question is that you know you look at a lot of film and there you have a pretty good understanding all your years in the league man we don't match up in this spot I'm going to get some I'm going to get some our pass pro is going to be pushed to the limit against Justin Tuck and Strahan and you know you you kind of know going into games
did you ever go into a Super Bowl and think we have better personnel and if you did it affect the way you played Did you think, "Okay, just Tom, let's just don't don't throw don't throw that seam route." Could you Did you ever battle that psychology of we are going to wear this team down? We got better players.
I have a feeling you're referring to the 2007 undefeated Patriot team that lost to the Giants. Am I Am I wrong or I What the hell is going on here? I will plead the show. I'm bringing up my worst my worst football memory. I mean, there there were days where I felt like going in, we were, you know, on paper, you know, however it would match up, okay, we've got a great chance winning. And honestly, when I do my games for Fox, a lot of times people on our crew will say, well, who do you think's going to win? And I always kind of say, well, if they were to play 10 times, I think this team would win seven and this team would win three. And that's, you know, because on any given day, if a quarterback goes over, goes out and turns it over three times, guess what? You're not winning,
right? So, the reality is is the best team in a oneame series doesn't always win. That's why I always think basketball, baseball, a sevename series does identify the best team because, you know, you got seven chances to to get it right. In football, you got one chance to get it right. That's really the challenge. You could have an off day or we're up there in Seattle during the last game of our year in championship weekend with me and Kevin Birkhart and we watch the punt returner from the Rams muff the punt. Seattle jumps on the ball, gives them all the momentum, Seattle goes on, takes advantage and then that ends up being one of the big turning points in the game. So that's how finicky the game is.
It's a real challenge to win this game and to do everything right over the course of the season to get to this game. And then to win this game requires a lot of good things happening and and things still bouncing your way. So that's that's really the challenge and the hard part about winning this game.
So you had a line about us Darnold and I can tell whenever a broadcaster has a a really good line, I can tell cuz I remember it a week or two later. And you said this during the Seahawk game and I I followed Darnold since late high school and I'd never heard it been put this way. You said, you know, Sam's more explosive than surgical.
And I thought, oh yeah, that's exactly right. But what's interesting is with the Jets in Carolina and maybe Minnesota, sometimes he had to be dynamic and not surgical. When I watched them against the Rams, I thought, "Oh, no, he's being surgical." Because outside of JSN,
yeah, it's a run team and a defensive team. And I'm wondering I it when I watched Sam, I thought that's exactly what he is. And then the Rams game, I'm like, oh no, that that this is actually surgical. I'm wondering if he recognizes what he's surrounded by and Tom Sam realizes really this is about it's surgery. I I I don't want to be as explosive. Do you think that's part of it?
Sure. I do. I think there's different ways to win every single week and you always have to find kind of the formula for success in a given week depending on who's in for you because you could have some injuries and who's out for the other team or where you want to try to attack the coverages of the other team. Some teams call and there's probably more invogue than you know in the last five six years since really the Rams with Brandon Staley played more of a shell type defense a lot of variations in two high defenses which are built to protect the deep part of the field and forces the quarterback to make surgical decisions on the underneath parts of the field. So when you decide to play this top down approach, well, you better find a surgical passer that can throw to tight ends, that can throw to running backs, that can find and be okay with six or seven yard gains to advance the ball. Okay. Now, differently, there's
some teams that come up and want to press you at the line of scrimmage and try to defend the short parts of the field and make you earn higher uh more challenging completions down the field, which are less percentage of happening, but they will say, "All right, we're going to get up here and try to take away the short stuff, and we're going to force you to hit the hard ones." That's another style of defense. So, you have to go in and out of different modes at different times. Sometimes you could be explosive, sometimes you could be surgical. Sometimes when they're all inside, you got to throw the ball outside. Sometimes when they're deep, you got to throw it short. When they decide to cover short, you got to throw it deep. When they're all inside, it's it's just that's how you have to develop a style of play over a period of time.
That's why I think it's really important for quarterbacks to they have to go to the line of scrimmage with a plan and what's my plan on this play? What did the coach call? What did he call that play for? This is all part of processing information. As I walk to the line now, I get to look at the defense. All right. Now, what are they in? Is the coach the play call? The coach is the play that the coach called, is it going to work against the defense that I'm seeing? That's the judgment the quarterback has to make. When you have a very highly intellectual quarterback, let's look at Matt Stafford who's going to probably win MVP. That's how he's walks to the line of scrimmage. Now he's got 17 years of wisdom. He can now say, "Great, there's a very high percentage chance that this play is actually going to work. Let's run it." That's how you continue to take growth as a quarterback and level up every single year because
the processing amount of the processing information, the speed of processing information can get better as you get older. And that's why I think you see a lot of success from quarterbacks in their mid to late 30s.
So when you went into these Super Bowls, a majority of them you had Josh McDaniels. Um did he did he pace it? Did he add stuff late? Uh was the install clean? And he kind of knew going in first two days, here's what it is. You're smiling as I say this. What What was it like? I mean, there were some of the coolest things I ever remember working with Josh in those moments and having those two weeks to prepare and knowing the magnitude of what we were playing for. You have 60 to 70 plays left in the entire season. That's all you got. So, why have 300 calls on the call sheet? You're not going to call them all anyway. Why don't you try to just thin it out to the the plays that you feel give you the best chance to win and that your team can execute well? So, a cool story. 2014, we're playing the Seahawks in the Super Bowl.
Yep. And we have four days of practice in Foxboro. We're playing against the Legion of Boom. Man, that was a legit defense. Unbelievable. We have three days of practice down in Arizona where the game's being played. It's Friday night after we've had seven practices and we go out to dinner with my family. Come back from dinner. It's about 9:30. I'm walking from the parking lot up to my hotel room on Friday night. And then I said, I called Josh. I said, I'm not feeling great about the red area. I I just there's a lot of moving parts and I feel like if I look to the right, the defense going to move to the right and that's going to take away the guys I'm thinking about. If I look to the left, they're all going to move and they're just going to move with my eyes and cover our receivers. And I don't think we could gain any leverage. Can we just go through the plan one more time? He and I at 10 o'clock on Friday night
after seven plays are done are watching red area film of the Seahawks defense. Okay, all the hay is in the barn. Practice is over. We got no more shots at practice. Josh and I come up with about three or four plays on that Friday night between 10 and 11:00 at night. We walk through the plays. That's one particular play you just showed on the screen was one of the plays that we installed on the Saturday morning, the Sunday before the game that we put in. We walked through them and we threw touchdown passes on two of those two of the plays that we installed on that Saturday morning. So, talk about feeling like you could be overprepared. No, you could be you could be prepared and then you can go to the next level which is cross every tea, dot every eye because in that game that game came down to mar the smallest of margins and what does it take sometimes that's what it takes and that's the trust and confidence that he
and I built in one another. Did you tell teammates of the changes or were there things that were singular with you and Josh or did you have to tell everybody guys this is what we're doing? Yeah, guys, these are the plays. We're going to add three or four plays. We're not going to get a chance to practice them. They may or may not come up, but we're going to walk through them to make sure we're ready to go. We walk through them two or three times and then boom, you cut it loose. But there's no full speed reps. There's no ability to get out there on the practice field and run. It's just, hey, got all these weeks together, but I think this play can give us a good easy chance. And what I wanted to do was I wanted a really good hard cell play action so I could get Bobby Wagner. Yeah. to kind of step up. So I didn't have to worry about him because I couldn't look off Earl Thomas and Bobby Wagner. A lot of times they would line
slightly opposite. So if I looked off Bobby Wagner, well, it brought Earl Thomas more into the play. And if I looked off Earl Thomas, it brought Bob Wagner more into the play. So I wanted a hard cell play action where I could kind of take the linebacker out of the play and now I could just work off one defender. was a very challenging style of play that they played. But it took us and, you know, a lot of years of working together to come up with a few kind of breather plays down there in the low red zone that gave me a clean, decisive throw where I could just focus on making one clean read and making a great throw to score.
Coaches will deny it publicly, but how much do you think Mike Vrabel is leaning into?
We're underdogs. Darnold's gonna be MVP. We're lucky to be here. How much is he leaning into that?
No. Brael, he's probably got every bit of underdog material up everywhere. We were 14point underdogs in 2001. Braves was part of that team. Believe me, Colin, if you picked the Seahawks, I'm sure he's going to be telling the entire team that Colin Coward picked the Seahawks. We're underdogs. That's just the mentality. And you know what? That's okay. I mean, someone's got to be that. Patriots have had an incredible season. I think what they've done has surprised everybody. It's so many guys that have come together, coaches, players that are new, great communication, great toughness. They played in a lot of tough environments and uh you know, they certainly deserve to be representing the AFC, you know, in this Super Bowl. It's it's going to be a great game. These teams are have played so well all season long. They've been clutch. They play good defense. They play good offense.
They've been explosive plays, surgical plays. They run the ball. They've had explosive runs. They've really found a lot of different ways to win and that's why they're that's why they're playing in this game.
So, you you know, you always get asked about, you know, the last week about Bellich, but I I I I defended Robert Craft this morning and I said the Patriots have the worst record in the league for five years before Robert Craft owned them.
From the day he bought them until today, they have the winningest record. And I said,
"Wow." And I said, "Go to the Yankees with George Steinbrunner." 37 years, won seven titles, had 23 different managers, sometimes Billy Martin for a third, fourth time, different GMs and players. I said, "We don't like to admit cuz owners are billionaires and they've got their own plane and we the quarterback, the coach, the coordinator." I said, 'But most business people, I know I work at Fox, most of us make seven to 10 decisions a day, and the smarter people make the right one 90% of the time. And so I said, if you're going to be outraged by Bill, and Bill will get in, then you should be equally outraged that Robert Craft, who has more Super Bowls than the rest of the AFC East, the AFC South, and the AFC North combined.
You You don't understand. I mean, Washington changed owners, Tom. 24 years embarrassing. The next year they're in the NFC Championship. I do not believe in coincidence. So, I want to just address the craft part of this
and that he was not necessarily a meddler, but I don't believe it's a zany happen stance that you guys literally coaching hires draft development um trades in season. Could you give me a sense? I know you were close are close with Robert Craft. I don't think I think fans just think it's all players and coaches. I'm like, "No, it's the same crappy teams drafting at the top every year. It's the owner. It's not the coaches." just your thoughts on
just a great point that you make and it I it always starts at the top and the leadership the figurehead or the the organization is uh for the Patriots RK and it's you know being there for 20 years with him and watching the nuances of that ownership role um was something for me to learn a lot from how he managed different personalities, how he could fill in the gaps when he saw them and where he saw them. Um, he just did the most unbelievable job. Um, and seeing it firsthand and being a part of it, recognizing the importance of that role in a football organization. I believe that the owner is the chief accountability officer and you know, you hold everyone to a standard and you expect everyone to live up to that. And believe me, when the owner sitting in a team meeting room, the players are sitting up a lot straighter. The head coach's message is directed a lot more intently. And RKK, his office was at the
stadium. He would sit in there in team meeting rooms. He would be out there on the practice field. He would be there at every road game shaking people's hands as they walked off the field. There's an importance of football that that in Patriot football that RKK does not take lightly. And not only that, look at the contributions that he's made to the league, to the NFL in general, to negotiate media rights deals. This is the most popular sport in America. It's, you know, the thousands of hours that he's spent bringing this game to life for the fans. That doesn't go unnoticed.
Certainly, now that I'm in TV, I understand the amount of work it takes for Fox to actually broadcast the game. the partnership that Fox and its partners have with the NFL, it's extremely important. That working relationship is so critical to this game being, you know, spread throughout our entire country and bring a lot of joy to people's lives. So, to me, it's not a matter, just like Bill, of if they're going to get in, it's just when they're going to get in, right?
They're tremendous at what they've done in the league. And, um, maybe it's not trending so well for expatriat. Maybe I should be a little concerned here, but uh you know, I think at some point this thing is is going to go in everybody's direction the right way.
You know, it's it's what's interesting. I I want to cap it with this is um is that you know, Bill could come off as very hardened because Bill is that that is his personality. And do you think it hurt him for that 24 48 hours when he didn't get in? Just what you know of Bill? I actually think in some ways um it rallied a lot of people who played for Bill and made sure they reached out to him to express um you know how much they appreciated him which I'm sure felt good for for Bill. Um and I said before it doesn't look we all want everything in life to happen on our time frame and our time schedule. We want everything to go when we want it to go but the reality is is that's not life. Um, I actually think it's going to work in his favor um when he does get in because there's going to be a lot of people that realize the impact that he made on their life as a coach, as a player, and they're going
to be there to celebrate him. And this was another opportunity for everybody to reach out to him and tell him how much they appreciate him even though he didn't get exactly what he probably deserved here the first time around.
All right. Okay. Well, I didn't hear the construction. According to you, it's it's quite a job being done.
I can't hear it. Geez. All right. Good. Yeah. Great seeing you as always, Tom. See you, my brother. Take care. I'll see you guys soon. Okay. Bye, guys.
Bye. Bye. Um, yeah, I think it's uh I I said this about craft is that the Roger Goodell picks an owner. my understanding, he picks an owner, a singular owner to to negotiate with the networks, Fox and, you know, NBC and all these networks. My understanding it was Robert Craft. If if the commissioner has 32 billionaires that he can pick and he picks Craft, pretty good indication that he trusts him. That's a big responsibility. In LA, it's the herd. Here we go. It's hour two on a Tuesday. Tom Brady's around the corner.
Welcome in. We're live in LA. It's the herd. You know, I like going to the Super Bowl. Uh when Fox has it cuz we we travel with a lot of people and the staff's there and we go out for dinner and it's a lot of fun. But I I I I saw somebody said the other day, Megan Rapino said, you know, sports is about inclusion. And I think sports is mostly about competition. If it was inclusion, people wouldn't get cut in high school, college, and pro sports, right? Like, right? Inclusion is great, but the bottom line is sports is standings first, last cut day. I always think that about the Super Bowl. We're trying so hard to get the Super Bowl in all these different locations. Put it in Miami. Where in America are you guaranteed to get usually, now I know it's snowing in Florida this week, but in my lifetime, where is the weather good in February? It's not California.
LA's second. Arizona's kind of secondish. Miami. I am four Super Bowls in one place. Santa Clara, nobody in San Francisco ever goes, "What do you want to do to have lunch today? Where do you want to go?" Santa Clara. To me, we're like the Grammys are held in one spot. Marty Gro is held in one space. They drop the ball in Time Square. Why do we have to move Super Bowls to multiple locations?
You know, these owners, they want they want the action in their hometown. I went to a Super Bowl in Jacksonville. Nothing against Jacksonville.
2004ish. One hotel. They had to bring in cruise ships for rooms. They had such a shortage of taxis in Jacksonville. These are be great people. They tried so hard. They had such a shortage on taxis.
I was with a producer Chad. You sat in valet waiting for a There was no Uber back then. There was no Uber lift. Taxis were it. And they were calling on local citizens to help. At one point, a van pulls up and he opens the back door and there was like uh surgeon gloves and rope and I'm like that's Buffalo Bill Silence of the Lambs. Like I can't get in the van. Like Jacksonville is a great town. Should not host Super Bowls, right? Like in Santa Clara, nothing against Santa Clara, but it's like nobody in San Francisco goes there for lunch. Miami is such a great place for the beach. It's international.
It's fun. It's an NFL city. The weather's good. There's places to hang out for, you know, and just enough places for players to get into trouble.
Yeah. Hot people everywhere. But do you remember the Super Bowl in Detroit? It snowed significantly. Like 2005ish, all the parties had to be indoors. O
and Michigan's amazing. And Detroit's great. They've redone downtown. It's not.
Yeah. I mean, it's uh it is what it is. So, uh, we were talking about Mike Frabel and, uh, so Robert Craft didn't get into the Hall of Fame, which I think he got slighted. How's Jerry Jones in? And Robert Craft is not in. He's got 11 Super Bowls. The New England Patriots had the worst record in the NFL the previous five years to Robert Craft owning them. Since he's owned them, they have the best record in the NFL. Multiple coaches, multiple quarterbacks. I I don't I don't So anyway, Mike Vrabel was sort of asked about the Patriot job.
He and remember he was the hot coach on the market. You were the hottest name on the coaching cycle this time around that presumably you had your pick of job. So personally, professionally, what really separated this choice among the others?
Well, I think that the ability to have open uh dialogue with with Robert and Jonathan was something that was critical. Um Elliot and his staff obviously um what I believe and and and what everybody else believes is a is a young dynamic quarterback.
Yeah. He said open dialogue with the owner Mike McCarthy had the Dallas Cowboy job and left on his own accord because they didn't have open dialogue. what Jerry perceives as open dialogue is not really open dialogue. Like Robert Craft, you can push back. I mean, I I always thought it was interesting Bichc was so deeply bothered that Robert Craft one time stepped in and had a personnel opinion. Remember that? Like he said, "You're not getting rid of Brady. We'll move off Jimmy Garopolo." That was the one time Robert Craft stood up and said, "No, no, no, no. I'm going to be I'm going to meddle in football."
you do realize Craft was right and Bellich was wrong is that Jimmy Garopolo was not the future. Tom won another Super Bowl. Tom was still great. Tom was great seven years later when he was in Tampa and decided to retire. So, you know, it's when you can get an owner who, and I I've said this, a lot of these owners, a lot of these billionaires, uh, they strangely still like pinch pennies on coaches. It's just I remember when the Chargers had an opening and I and I know Dean Spanos because he's told me this a couple different times, occasionally listens to our show and I was literally sending a direct message to him on the show. I'm like, "Pay for Jim Harbaugh.
Pay for him." They'd gone, in my opinion, kind of cheap on coaches and it had cost them. I'm like, "Soofi, the LA market. It's not San Diego. Pay for hardball." I had dinner with Dean 6 months later. He's like, "It's better than I thought." There are so many unintended or unknown benefits to hiring a Vrabel and a Payton or or or you know a a John Harbaugh now with the Giants that will pay itself over the next two years on stuff you didn't even understand. So here here was Albert Brer yesterday on sort of Mike Vrabel's path to this Super Bowl.
What he's evolved into is the total package as a head coach. leadership, relationships, scheme, game management, roster building. I I just think when you're talking about the totality of what a head coach is, Mike Frabel checks every single box. I just think Mike has grown into becoming the total package as a head coach.
Yeah. Uh, and I we we I said this yesterday, most ex players, you know, a lot of guys who have become head coaches in the NFL, maybe they played college football, but they weren't like NFL players of note. There's an argument Vbel is the best ex player that's been a head coach, you know, an ex-player of some renown that you know, now Mike Ditka qualifies. I don't think um I think Vrabel souped to nuts is kind of manages the whole uh component of coach better than Ditka did. Um I I think he's just I I just you know the NFL tends to be a credit league. So if you're bad and get good, everybody wants credit. And uh I've said this before, I think the Patriots are underrated. Very rarely does a team get to a Super Bowl and they're underrated, but because the Patriots lost to the Steelers and the Raiders in September and people just sort of okay, they're at the one:00 window games. And I remember when they
kept losing early and I've got it on tape. I kept saying, "Folks, do not judge the Patriots in September. Between free agency and the draft, they've got like 12 new starters. You got to give this team to late October." And I said it, that's that's why I've I've said most of the year when the Patriots were winning, you got to forget the Steelers loss and you got to forget the Raiders loss. Okay? No starters do not play in preeason. free agents, draft picks. This team will be fully baked by Thanksgiving. And they are.
Here we go. Tom Brady stops by in one hour. It is a Tuesday. We are live in Los Angeles. It's the herd. Wherever you may be, however you may be watching or listening, thanks for making us part of your day. I understand. that a lot of you have financial envy or animosity, but I saw this story this morning. Robert Craft not voted into the Hall of Fame class in 2026. So, let me ask you, where's the outrage? I mean, Bill Bich, I had to spend three days on it. Well, where's the outrage? Well, Colin, come on. Owners don't matter. Oh, really? Titans, Jets, Browns, perpetually hazmat spills. Nutty coincidence. Dan Snyder took over a Washington football team that had a 30-year season ticket waiting list. 24 years Washington was a train wreck. The NFL kicked him out. The next year they're in the NFC Championship. I bet that's just a nutty coincidence, too.
New England was awful before Robert Craft got there. Five straight years of losing seasons. In fact, in that half decade, they had the worst record in the league. Robert Craft buys them. The next year, they're 10 and six. What are the chances? Prebellich, with Bellich, postbell check Super Bowls. I've worked for over 35 years in radio and TV. I have had seven corporate owners. There is an inarguable, undeniable, I'll die on this hill, direct correlation between the quality of the owner and the quality of the management and decisions that are made with people. Robert Craft 11 Super Bowls since he bought the team. That's more than the rest of the AFC East, the AFC North, and the AFC South combined. Joe Burrow last several years has been the best quarterback in the league statistically. He can't make the playoffs. You know why? And I know why.
It's not the right tackle or their lack of depth at inside Mike linebacker. It's the cheap ownership. I mean, go look at baseball. The Yankees have as much annual revenue as the Dodgers. Dodgers have better owner. Dodgers have better owners. Excellence in every company I have always worked at, every corporation starts at the top and it is continually reinforced every day top down. Doesn't start at the bottom. I mean, look at New York. George Steinbrren, owned the Yankees for 37 years, won seven World Series titles. It wasn't managers. He had 23 different managers if you count hiring Billy Martin multiple times. He had multiple GMs. He had multiple players on the rosters. The only common through line was George Steinbrer. 37 years, seven World Series titles.
Multiple managers, multiple stars, multiple infielders, multiple pitchers, multiple relievers, multiple GMs, multiple scouts, one common denominator, George. Since he's passed away, 15 years, kids took it over. Bagel, no World Series title. because they don't have his vision. They don't have his courage and they don't have his passion. I I mean I I'll die on this hill. People don't like owners. They're rich guys. Give me a break. Every year I talk about this to be a dynasty. You can occasionally get lucky and win a Super Bowl. You know, you you have a you know it all works out. you have a good roster, but generally to be a dynasty, great owner, great GM, great coach, great quarterback, at least an A minus at all of them. It is to do a dynasty.
So, remember when Mike Vrabel got fired by Tennessee, considered one of the weirdest, most political ownership groups in the NFL, Tennessee said he didn't smile enough around the building. and Vrabel comes back to New England, gets hired, remember what he said.
I also want you not to take this organization for granted. I've been a lot of places. This is a special place with great leadership, great fans, great direction, great coaching. Enjoy it. It's not like this everywhere. Thank you very much.
It's It's not like this anywhere. It's the best owner in the league. I don't know Robert Craft. I don't know his son. I've never met them. This isn't a favor. It's a guy that's been on the air for 35 years and had seven different corporate owners. Direct correlation. I I say this all the time that all of us make about 12 decisions a day. And I'm not talking about what pair of pants to wear, but we all make 10 to 12 decisions a day that could influence somebody else or ourselves. And the better owners make the right decision 10 to 11 out of 12 times. I mean, William Clay Ford owned the Detroit Lions forever and they were a mess. He passes, his wife takes it over, and then his daughter, and suddenly they're really good all the time.
I I I I I don't buy it. I I don't buy that. It's a coincidence. So you tell me when Bellich doesn't make it, people dismiss the fact that I'm like, you guys do realize he will make it eventually and he should make it in, but he's won 44 and a.5% of his games without Brady and you dismiss that. WELL, I I MEAN I mean um Robert Craft won pre-bellich check, during Bellich, postbellich, and if you ask me today the next dynasty in the NFL, if I had to put my 401k on it, I would say Drake May, Mike Frabel, Robert Craft, Josh McDaniels.
You you you think this was a terrible organization before Craft? They were the They were the New Orleans ain't the Saints. They were terrible. They were cheap. Nobody wanted to play for them. Nobody wanted to scout for him. The next year they win 10 games. I I don't think that's luck. I don't buy in coincidence. So, if you're going to be outraged that Bellich check didn't get in, you you may want to be a little bothered that Jerry Jones is in and Robert Craft isn't. That that doesn't bother you at all. A little does me.
Um, so Sam Darnold is sort of the talk of the Super Bowl, right? He's the odds on favorite uh to win MVP. And he had a bite this week. A lot of people have a right to be bitter. I don't think you ever should be, but you get bad parents, you get bad bosses, you get bad breaks, you didn't get good genetics, you're sick a lot. Like, there's a lot of reasons to be negative, right? Like to think you haven't gotten the breaks. Um, now in pro sports, let's just say Sam Darnold did not get the best opening boss. Todd BS was his first boss and he was on the hot seat as head coach. Go ask Caleb Williams in Chicago what it's like to enter the NFL with a coach that's on the hot seat. It unraveled. Then he gets Adam Gase. Disaster. Does not have in three years a Pro Bowler. Adam Gase was so bad he has yet since he was fired to get a full-time NFL job.
And Sam Darnold was never bitter. And then he goes to Carolina with Matt Rule. That was a complete circus. He gets benched at one point. Then in late November, he finally gets the starting job at Carolina again. Goes 4 and two. And then Kyle Shanahan brings him on and loves him and tells Kevin Oonnell, "The players loved him. The locker room loved him. He's good enough to start. He didn't for us." Brock Pury did in your life. If you don't get breaks, I understand it's easy to play the victim and be passive aggressive. I mean, Baker Mayfield last week, he's still taking shots at people. Aaron Rogers personality while he was winning was passive aggressive.
Sam Darnold got a disaster with the Jets. A mess in Carolina. And when he was asked about it, did he point fingers? Was he upset? Was he's bitter about stuff? No. This is what he said.
I was um really blessed to to be able to get drafted to to the Jets. Obviously, things didn't work out the way that I wanted to there. And then I went to, you know, uh, the Carolina Panthers, um, where I made a lot of great friends and then went to San Francisco, uh, you know, was able to be a backup there and, uh, for a great player in Brock Pery, uh, learned under, you know, a great coach and Kyle Shanahan, Brian Greasie, the Kubaks, obviously. And, uh, and then I went to Minnesota and again, I was with some really great coaches, some really great players as well.
Yeah. When you stumble in life, your personality and how you handle it will dictate how many other great opportunities you receive. And Darnold is totally respected throughout this league. Not just because of the quality of play the last couple of years, but because of the quality of the human being. He had every reason to be bitter. I mean, Adam Gase has not had a full-time job since the Jets. Zero Pro Bowlers went into the league in a hot seat. chaotic ownership. Then he goes to Carolina. He could have just said, "Man, I got my first round money. I'm gonna go sell insurance. I'm gonna go start a band in Oceanside, California." Head down, humble, grateful, that's why the league is rooting for him. When you see a guy that's talented like a Jay Cutler and he suddenly is out of the league or Cam Newton and I got nothing against Jay Cutler, Cam Newton, but they didn't get extra multiple opportunities to reinvent
themselves. That's on them, not the rest of the league. Darnold just kept getting phone calls. Come on in. We're interested. And there was no reason after the Jets in Carolina to be impressed. Kyle Shanahan, the league's quarterback whisperer, said, "No, I I hear good things." Brought him in, then called Kevin Oonnell and said, "He needs to start in this league. This is I would build my team around him." And then Minnesota let him walk out of the door. And their GM just got fired. Jmack, I got a good night's sleep. I'm full of it today.
I can tell. Very fired up. Boy, I I mentioned an NBA player to you before the show and I mean it was like a 30 second rant. I loved it. I'm fired up. This is a good show. Be a fun one with
Brady. So, there's a lot of talk Tom Brady's coming up in 45 minutes. There's a lot of talk about Giannis and the trade deadline and there's a few days left. Uh be very careful about trade deadline moves. That's next in LA. It's the herd. Today's show is brought to you by our presenting sponsor, Hard Rock Bet, Florida Sportsbook. It's big game week on Hard Rock Bet. Seattle a four and a half point favorite over New England. For games like this, basic bets just don't cut it. Here's a parlay I like. New England plus five, under 45 a half points and under one and a half passing touchdowns for Darnold. I think Sam takes a lead. They play a semic-conservative game and the game is fairly lowcoring.
Patriots keep it close, but you know who the better team is. Hard Rock Bet also loaded with special props you can't find the rest of the year. So, listen, the NBA regular season is long and can be kind of tedious and repetitive. I mean, how many three-pointers did you watch in last night's games? Uh, if there was any. Uh, so the trade deadline gets everybody fired up. But even if you get a star like Carmelo Anthony to the Knicks, uh, they got swept in the first round of the playoffs. Uh, KD to the Suns, uh, they won a playoff series that year and eventually got whacked. Uh, they mortgaged their future and it was a it was a mess after that. So Giannis being traded gets everybody fired up. The Knicks are involved. Uh the T-Wolves, uh the Miami Heat, the Warriors. So Giannis is hurt again. Not going to be back until March. So it's just it's this year it's a sunk cost. You're not winning a title because anybody that gets him, you have to remember you're getting a guy that's coming off an injury again. And Giannis is not a plugandplay guy like
KD. That's not what he is. He has a high usage rate. Only Luca in the entire league. And Giannis is a much better defensive player than Luca, but only Luca for a star has a higher usage rate. It's like James Harden. You have to build the offense around Luca or James Harden or Giannis. He's not an offball guy. He is defensively. He's remarkable defensively. So, your entire offense has to be built around Giannis. That takes an that takes a camp. That takes an off season. So, it's like in the NFL, you can grab a pass rusher at the trade deadline, or Seattle grabbed Rasheed Shahed, who's great on special teams and kind of a a one route receiver, deep threat down the sideline. You're not grabbing a a quarterback at the trade deadline and getting to Super Bowls and winning Super Bowls. It just doesn't happen very often. So, that's Giannis. I do think the one team that makes sense because remember lots of injuries.
He's 32 at some point next season and as big guys get hurt they don't get hurt less as they age. So, I don't think he's a smart move necessarily for the Heat or the Knicks cuz I think the Knicks future is good with or without Giannis. And I think Giannis's future is limited. And I think the Knicks offense runs through Jaylen Brunson. You would need an entire camp minimum to figure out Giannis who needs the ball and Brunson. Golden State to me is interesting because they don't have any immediate future. Minnesota's good with or without him. The Knicks are good with or without him. Golden State's not even remotely interesting without him. So, are you willing to give up four draft picks and your future to bring Giannis to the Warriors? Yeah, because they've they've I mean, let's be honest about the Warriors. They're not interesting now. And everything is about Steph Curry's timeline. So, you've
already basically said, "We don't like young guys. We get rid of Kaminga. Wiseman didn't work. Jordan Pull, we moved out. You have to work with Steph. And though Steph needs the ball in his hands, he's not Luca. He's also great off the ball. Jaylen Brunson needs the ball. Luca needs the ball. Giannis needs the ball. So the Knicks to me is weird. Golden State isn't the Knicks. The Knicks could get to the finals this year. My guess is Detroit or the Knicks get without Jason Tiff get to the finals. Warriors may not make the playoffs without Giannis. So why not why not sell your future? You've already told us you don't really care about your future in Golden State because you're willing to give up Kaminga and you move off young players. So that's the one that makes sense to me. But this idea at the trade deadline, I mean KD was the ultimate plug-and-play guy. Phoenix got him. They won a a playoff series. That
is not Giannis. I mean, he he has the ball in his hands. Has to. He's not an offball offensive guy because he's not a shooter. Jack with the news.
NO. NO. TURN ON THE NEWS. THIS is the Herdline news. All right. Super Bowl 60 right around the corner this Sunday, Colin. And uh the players took part in opening night yesterday, taking questions from the media. Drake May obviously in year two with the Patriots is already getting MVP attention and broke down what advice Tom Brady gave him ahead of Super Bowl week.
I've met Tom a few times and one of the best thing he said there's no shortcuts to it. There's no shortcuts to to putting in the work and the proofs in the pudding and knowing that the shortcuts that you know that that people take or can try to you know take it's it's not worth it. uh the the get the most out of what you put into it and he's been great at that and he obviously showed that throughout his career.
Yeah, that would be the advice Tom Brady would give. Yeah. What what what's the saying? Uh the uh elevator to success is out of order. You got to take the stairs. You know, that kind of deal. However, I got a number for you that's a little surprising. So, Drake May is a young quarterback under the age of 25. Would you know that Mike McDonald has faced 10 quarterbacks under the age of 25 in the last two seasons? Their record is one and nine against Mike McDonald. Seven touchdowns, 12 picks. The one win,
Brock Pury. That's it. Young quarterbacks have struggled struggled big time. Brock Pury came out of college with a lot of starts. So, he was like an older rookie in terms of experience. Yeah.
So, young quarterbacks against McDonald's schemes have struggled. And let's be real, Drake May's had a brutal postseason. Now, I know you can one half a weather against Denver, but I mean, if CJ Stroud isn't throwing the football all around the field when he five turnovers in a half, Drake May hasn't been great. If you look at some of the Super Bowl MVP odds, not a lot of Patriots skill position players are high. Everything is telling you that the Patriots are going to struggle offensively in this game.
Yeah, it's I think Well, I think it's an undergame. I think it's a lower score. I think it's 2723 or or it's
that would hit the over. The over was 46 2420. Yeah, that that would work. I think it's a very lowcoring game cuz I think New England's defense is underrated
and sometimes these young quarterbacks get to the Super Bowl first time and it ain't an easy go, right? Drake might get back here. He's got a good coach. Um, you know, I like Seattle. Tom Brady, by the way, coming up here in 40, 35 minutes, something like that.
All right, let's move on to the New York Giants. John Harbaugh has himself an offensive coordinator. Colin, it's your guy. Matt Nai. Yeah.
Yeah. Kansas City Chiefs OC. They I mean, he's so he's so valuable to the franchise, they just said, "You want to go find a job? Go for it."
Now, come on. And they didn't they didn't fire him. It was just a parting of ways and uh Naggie hit the open market and he landed with the New York Giants. So, our stat guys came up with the uh
You don't like him. How did the Chiefs offense do with NGI the last three years? They finished ninth, 16th, and 20th. That's with Patrick Mahomes.
I I I'm a Jets guy, so I shoot the messenger. Go ahead. Go ahead. I'm sure you're thrilled, right? What's his claim to fame? He got He got to the playoffs.
I always said Trabiscy. He got Mitch Trabiscy to the playoffs twice in a division where Aaron Rogers, Matt Stafford, and Kirk Cousins were all in their prime.
Yeah. And And what did Trabiscy do outside of Matt Naggie? So I again you I think it's interesting it when you say look at his Kansas City numbers some of that is in my opinion is the more Mahomes makes and Mahomes's salary kicks in they don't have a run game in Kansas City. That's not his fault.
They don't have an offensive line you can trust. That is not his fault. And he wasn't calling plays to be fair. Andy Reid was the guy.
I don't know. I'm sorry. I just a lot of guys get second chances in this league. Robert Salah in New York, it was a mess. He gets a second chance. Matt Naggi got Mitch Trabiscy to the playoffs twice and he doesn't get a second chance. So, he's not even getting a head coaching job here. He's just getting a good coordinator job.
Well, there is pressure cuz I don't I don't remember Harbaugh being a meddler on the offensive side of the ball in I don't think he is.
No, he's more of like a CEO, right? So, there's going to be some pressure on him with Jackson Dart here for for Naggie to deliver. And you look at the Giants numbers since 2017. They ranked 31st in wins, losses. Look at that record. 31st. This is how bad they've been the last eight years. Points per game in yards per game. And then you can see in the small fine print, the only team ranking 32nd in all those is the Jets.
You know what's interesting? So points per game since 2017. 19 points a game for the Giants. Do you know what Bill Bich's career average of points is without Brady? 19 points a game.
Okay. So, so when everybody freaks out about Bellich not getting in, take Tom out of his career. Bellich check averages 19 points. That's atrocious.
Robert Craft. I thought you'd save that one for Brady here in 30 minutes. No, I just I Nobody's outraged that Jerry Jones is in the hall. Robert isn't. But I had three days you have to fend off. And by the way, Bellich came within like a vote of getting in. Wow.
Didn't he? I He had 11 people vote no if he if he had I think it I could be wrong on this, but I think he only missed it by a vote or two.
So, we don't Yeah, that that's interesting. Um All right. All right. Final story, Colin. Let's go to the NBA. Listen, this uh we've been hearing about this for a while. We've been on this for for a minute now.
The Lakers are building around Luca and and Austin Reeds. That's clear. And it sounds like according to a report from NBA insider Jake Fischer,
okay, that LeBron's time with the Lakers is over. Yeah, quote uh quoting Jake here, the Lakers are ready to move on from LeBron. And I think LeBron is ready to move on from the Lakers as well, adding it's a foregone sentiment in LA right now.
Now, my only push back, Colin, okay, is this idea that LeBron is going to leave his son, Bronny, and just bounce to Cleveland or something.
His son's not nine. His son's on the team. His son's not a child. His other son plays at Arizona.
So, so you're going to leave the West Coast and just go go go play somewhere else for for one more year for a farewell tour?
I I don't I don't think Why does LeBron need a farewell tour? So, what do you think he does?
Just Well, let's let's let's talk about this because I think it's substantial. The new owners of the Lakers, they had a piece before they bought them. So they bought a small chunk of the Lakers, infused Genie Bus and the bus family with some money, but they never looked at the Lakers as an organization. They wanted to keep anybody. They got rid of all the buses. And so this year is kind of research development. They're they're they're basically not making any hasty moves. And LeBron and Rich Paul, they they want to know what's going on. And the and the Lakers owners are not going to give them the answer they want. Just like Pat Riley years ago with LeBron when LeBron wanted Spolster fired, Riley came down 15 minutes later and didn't give LeBron and his guys the answer he wanted. And he always held some some reservoir of resentment about that and he left, right? Which is why would you leave like a really good organization
like the Miami Heat for the Cavs? It worked. But it's weird. Um, and so LeBron his whole career has kind of gotten his way and the new Laker owners shouldn't and aren't giving LeBron and his camp the answer they want. So the the way to make this work is be totally respectful. You know, build a statue, whatever you have to do. But we talked about this yesterday. If Luca is your star, and he is, and JJ Reic is your coach, offensive coach, Austin Reeves, you can argue for him to be part of this, but you have to build a roster stacked with rim protectors and athletic wings. LeBron doesn't qualify as both and he's really expensive and he can't play big minutes every game. So, it makes no sense to keep him or extend him. None. I can think two things.
LeBron's unbelievable. He's been a good steward for the league. He's a little uh thirsty on social media, whatever. But who isn't? But it makes no sense on a financial athletic business macro view to retain LeBron. It makes no sense for this team. You You could for his salary, you could go get multiple athletic youngwing defenders.
It doesn't make sense to retain him at a $50 million price tag. However, this is where it gets interesting.
What if LeBron says, "I love it here. I want to stay with my son. I we've set up camp in LA. I've got all these projects. I'll stay here for 20 million.
Is that the kind of number that the Lakers are like? Boom. Boom. There you go. No, that is not LeBron's personality.
Well, that is what we don't know. Now, he historically has wanted to control the chess board and know what's coming. That's over.
He's out of control. And that's that's got to be tough, Kyle. Listen, it it it's just like anything else. You know, uh uh when dad controls son and then son gets a strong opinion of his own, dad struggles with that. LeBron has literally controlled I mean Adam Silver during co called LeBron remember Kyrie Irving is like cancel the year
uh you know irrelevant player Dwight Howard cancel the season Kyrie Irving remember that and LeBron came out talked Adam Silver and LeBron said we're playing the season.
Yeah. So the commissioner has leaned on LeBron and should have when Kyrie Irving's going you know
the earth is flat. Let's cancel the season. Like stop talking. Yeah. So, LeBron's had this control. I am sympathetic for somebody that's kind of run the show forever. Like, I'll give you an example. Tom Brady less than 30 minutes. When Brady was in New England, he didn't run the show. Tom acknowledged he took pay cuts. It was Bellich's show. Tom was always the good soldier. Tom was. And in the end of it, after 20 years of it, he's like, I'm tired of always being second kind of tier. Like, I'm tired of it. Then he goes to Tampa and he wins.
So LeBron's the opposite. No pay cuts, take the most money. I'm the guy. And now you're being asked late in your career,
bro. We're we're you don't make sense athletically. You don't make sense financially for the team. And I think it's really hard. I think LeBron is downplaying it. But if you listen to LeBron over the last I've talked about this, you and I have talked about this. The last month to two months, listen to his comments after games. LeBron has shifted down.
I mean, he is now very I'm just doing the best I can. LeBron knows it's over. Reality is set.
He It's set in for He's not bitter. He's had He always says, "I'm about basketball." I'm I'm being respectful here. LeBron is telling you he knows it's over. He's too smart not to know it's over.
So, it's interesting because the Cleveland Cavaliers rumors about LeBron returning next year are still out there. There's a world where Cavs fans have talked themselves into a pretzel. We can get Giannis. We move off Moy. We get Giannis.
We get James Harden. He can take a pay cut. And we get LeBron on a pay cut. And we've got this super team.
No, it's Cleveland. And and I I don't I don't see it happening. It's a fun topic. Would Giannis sign in Cleveland
to play with old guys, the Harden and LeBron? I mean, there's a lot of stuff out there, Colin.
I I I you and I like LeBron. I think he at he's averaging 227 and six or six and five.
It's it's the NBA before the deadline. It's not hard to get a good shot. I mean, I went to watch a Laker game against the Bulls in the first quarter. It was practice. I mean, both teams were shooting like 57 60%.
Did you have 20 in the first half? Yeah. I mean, it's just nobody's playing defense pre-trade deadline. I heard Tim Leggler a couple weeks ago said he cannot believe the lack of intensity in some of these NBA games. I I've went to one and I mean I turn I turn to my wife I'm like this is like a practice.
It's a long season. Yeah. Jay Mack with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by.
The herd lie news. Crypto Bros. Oh yeah. Where'd they all go? Well, they went back to their fast food jobs.
It's what happens when the market crash. They were all lecturing us for years how they were going to, you know, financial expertise. Crypto bros. Yeah. I went to out to eat the other night. I said, "Hey, can I pay in Bitcoin?" They said, "No." Shocker. So, um, okay, the staff and I have a disagreement. They're trying to sell me on something. I do not buy it. So, Dak Prescott wants the Cowboys to resign George Pickkins. Okay. I think the most overrated player in the NFL and at any one time there's about seven in the league is talented but needy star receiver.
So the Seahawks moved off DK Metaf Super Bowl. Kansas City moved off Tyreek Hill two Super Bowls. Pittsburgh moved off George Pickkins made the playoffs with a 42-year-old quarterback. New England won six Super Bowls without Randy Moss, none with him. And I like Randy can be a little high maintenance. San Francisco this year went 12 and five. Brandon Iuk didn't play a snap for the record either to Debo. Debo went to Washington. They went from great locker room to not a great locker room. So I looked up this morning the highest paid wide receiver average in the NFL. Find me all the playoff wins. Jamar Chase, CD Lamb, DK Metaf, Justin Jefferson, Garrett Wilson, Terry Mcccluren. I always love Terry McLaren. Then he got a big fat contract and now I don't love him as much. Uh AJ Brown, lot of drama. Uh Brandon Iay, Tyreek Hill. Where are all the playoff wins? So, because I and I've said this,
Dak Prescott when Dez Bryant left, his interceptions went down, his passer rating went up, his yards per game went up, his completion percentage went up because Dak didn't have to babysit. I I I I've talked about this privately for a long time. I'm not babysitting adult men. And a lot of athletes come into the NFL and it for whatever reasons it's often wide receiver. You end up having to be a babysitter and it's like I'm sorry but George Pickins Dak Prescott's made every Cowboy receiver a star. He made Amari a star and Cidi Lamb a star. I mean did he not? He's made go look George Pickkins everybody career's over made him a star.
They have a sixth round pick. I think it's his second year in the league. Ryan Florenoi for the Cowboys. I thought last year I'm like, "Oh, this kid's good. Dak's going to make this kid rich." So, I I'm I'm I'll die on this one. I do not believe receivers make quarterbacks. I think if you have a B+, a A minus, A+ quarterback, they make the wide receivers. For years and years, people left Brady. Where did they go? Witness protection program. Where'd all the receivers go? I mean, Tom Moss was invisible. Goes the New England Star, leaves Tom. Randy Moss wasn't less talented before or less talented after.
Like you you receivers are I love JSN. You never hear from him. He doesn't demand the ball. He he and by the way, just because you demand doesn't make you a bad person. I don't think I know Dez Bryant, not a bad person or Brandon Iuk, but football, this is not the NBA. You cannot pander to your star. I mean, for years, OBJ, it was like, oh, the Giants revol BJ's not winning games. He's just a talented kid. Really talented. Just a really talented guy. So, I saw this here. Here's, by the way, Dak Prescott. You know what he's going to say.
Quarterbacks, they like their security blankets. Here's that. We got to make sure that we aren't complacent with what we've done on our side of the ball. We've got to get one of our guys signed and uh make sure that we take a big step on offense as well. you said getting one of your guys signed.
Yeah. Which one you talking about? Yeah, the guy out here. Uh don't the guy out here that doesn't have a contract. Uh no matter whichever way that they got to do it. Um he's an important piece of this offense, important piece of what we're trying to do. And so, um leave it to those guys. Obviously, if I need to get involved, I've said it before, I will. Um but confident in Jerry.
Yeah, whatever. Uh I think they're fine without George Pickkins. I think the highmaintenance, the I need the ball kind of center of attention wide receivers. Go look at the highest paid receivers in the league. Find me the playoff wins. Quarterback, coach, left tackle, great pass rusher, veteran center, interior linebacker that can call defensive plays or interior, you know, free safety, strong safety. Give me give me somebody in the middle of the field that can kind of direct traffic. You can have the expensive wide receiver who's drama creating. Go for it. Knock yourself out. Um, so when the Rams won the Super Bowl, they've only had one first round pick in the last I think it's nine years and it was Jared Verse.
They hit on it, but during the parade, the GM Les Sneeed said, "F them picks." And it was funny. It's It's made into merch. It's been It's very, very funny. So, obviously draft picks matter. But the Rams won a Super Bowl without those first round picks, right? And so it was funny because they won. You can say, "F them pick when you win." You can be cocky if you're Gordon Ramsay or you're Bill Maher and you have a history of success and a history of success and and you've been relevant. Okay. Brandon Bean is the GM who just got a job promotion with the Bills.
And this is um he basically used the same language. He was interviewed by Ty Dunn, excellent journalist who we brought on this show and he basically said on the Joe Brady hire, "F the outside." He's talking about the fans here. F the fans. It's about the right selection for the team. If we win, they'll love it. It's the same thing I said when I took Josh Allen. Can we stop ting up that you drafted Josh Allen? It was a long time ago. Okay. Uh, there was a band back in 2003 that created the song Stacy's Mom. It was a huge hit. You don't know the band, you know the song.
Okay. Nobody cares about the draft or the GM. They know Josh Allen. So again, if you're successful over the course of time, you know, Bill Parcels's Bellich, kind of that dismissive, snarky, cocky stuff. I think plays really well. It plays well at a Super Bowl parade where Tom Brady is had a few too many margaritas or less need is saying f them picks. But the reason he said f the outside is because a fan poll said only 8% of Bills fans, these are the people that get up, jump off their van, jump on tables before games that literally snowblow the driveways of Bill's player who Bill's players, they will go to the stadium on the day before or the day of a game to shovel snow and you're saying, "F the fans."
You're not successful enough to say that. If you had a couple trophies, maybe it would land differently. It just doesn't land well. I mean, this is probably the most loyal fan base. My wife used to have to go to Buffalo a lot. She's like, "Nicest people in the country, Buffalo." I wouldn't say, "F the picks during a Super Bowlinning parade is funny. F the outside fans is not funny. It's dismissive, cocky, and stop bringing up Josh Allen as your pick. We know you hit on it. Um, and this is the same general manager who when popular local radio hosts, I think it's WGR, legendary Buffalo station, came out and questioned their draft and said, "You didn't get enough wide receivers." And we found at the end of this year, they probably could have used two more wide receivers. This was Brandon Bean's reaction.
You guys were bitching in 2018 about Josh Allen. You guys wanted Josh Rosen. And now you guys are bitching that we don't have a receiver. I don't get it. You got to have a show and you got to you got to have something to about. But bitching about wide receiver is one of the dumbest arguments I've heard. It actually landed for the hosts at the end of the year. They were going to Brandon Cooks was their go-to guy. They didn't have a perimeter wide receiver. So, uh, and and whenever I hear, yeah, I get you guys have to have a show. Well, uh, the Bills also have to have a GM and you're it. But to me, f the outside is basically saying f the fans.
You may have the best fan base in the country. These people grab shovels and go to the stadium. Like I wouldn't be shocked if Terry Pagula doesn't demand that Brandon Bean offer an apology. I think this is really bad. And I I got I don't know him. I don't care. I've got six or seven GMs I talk to. He's known as a good cap guy. But f the outside. The outside is snowing and your fans have shovels clearing the stadium. That doesn't play to me at all. And I, by the way, I like a little cocky. I love parcels. And I I I like, you know, Greg Papovich in his prime was tough on reporters and and Gordon Ramsay and Bill Mah. I can take snark. I'm okay with it.
Got to have a couple trophies. You can't be the organization in the league that we look at and go, why don't they have a trophy? That GM can't be snarky. Just me. Tom Brady, top of the hour. The guy that's never snarky. So I I'm still on this thing. Outraged that Bellich check doesn't get in. Nobody cares that Craft doesn't. You don't. You're not bothered.
I'm unbothered. Correct. Um I I What has Craft done to get in the Hall? Like owners getting in the Hall of Fame is tough. You could be like, "Well, they have all these championships." Well, how did they get them?
Bellich Brady. Oh, who hire who hires them? The owner. Who? Who? Well, technically I guess the GM could hire the coach. Craft has a say.
No, the they don't like each other. You know that, right? Craft and Bellich. It was an ugly ending.
Yeah, but but but Bellich's won pre-bill, post bill, during Bill. Well, you're you just don't think I mean, you're an you're a co-owner of a soccer team. Do you think you have influence over the coach, the roster, the morale, and the direction? Not as much as I'd like, but it's fun to be part of the discuss.
That when you say not as much as I like, what you're telling me is you do think you have the ability to change direction, morale, revenue. Owners matter. You may hate them, but they matter.
