Coming up in this incredible part two episode with Anastasia Suare. Look at you getting emotional. About your daughter.

Good. Yeah. Family is everything. Sorry. I'm sorry. I don't want to be too emotional.

That's beautiful. You're crying. I'm crying. I'm so inspired by your strength, by your story, by your conviction, by your example of betting on yourself, by your just complete embracing of who you fully are like fully authentically like this is who I am.

Totally. The amazing and inspiring Anastasia Suare, founder and CEO of Anastasia Beverly Hills. Anastasia is one of the world's most successful self-made women and is often referred to as the queen of eyebrows. And now, for the very first time, she's sharing her incredible journey in her brand new book, Raising Brows. My story of building a billion-dollar beauty empire, which is not only a behindthescenes look at building a global brand from nothing, it's packed with tools on how you can achieve your own big dreams, too. As an aesthetician and single mother with no connections at the time, Anastasia risked her life escaping communist Romania to come to America. Raising Brows tells the remarkable story of how she built a billion-dollar beauty brand and went from watching Oprah's TV show to learn English to then shaping Oprah's eyebrows along with building a glittering roster of clients including

Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, Haley Bieber, Cindy Crawford, and pretty much all of Hollywood. But beneath the glossy exterior, Anastasia's path wasn't easy. From landlords and bank managers laughing at her dreams, she learned to ignore the naysayers and turn her dreams into her destiny. Anyways, I'm so competitive. I love to to win. I have to work. I need to to know what's going on. Me and my daughter, we are hands-on with the business.

There's a lot of people listening that maybe they have a friend or loved one working with them. when Claudia first started working for because now, oh my goodness, now your daughter is also an icon in the beauty industry and a trailblazer and a change maker. You share in the book a tough love moment when you had to fire her.

Oh yeah. Yeah. It was a tough love. Yeah. Yeah. I was always tough with my daughter

and she was I think showing up late, right? Yes. And I fire her. You fired her? Yeah.

We have to set rules here. Number one, you are never late again. Number two, I'm your boss. I'm not your mother when you walk in and I'm going to be tougher with you than all the employees because I could set an example.

From that point forward, did everything shift? Yes. Yeah. When I came in this country, do you know what was my biggest joy was, oh my god, you could have three jobs? Cuz I was thinking like, oh, maybe I could work at this place and uh I will work at the pizza place and I will work here. I could get three jobs. That was amazing. There's so many places that where you can't get one job and you're like, "Yes,

wa I can get three jobs." Three jobs. That's amazing. That's amazing. My biggest regret is that I didn't have more kids.

Really? Yes. You should not. You should have more. Mhm. Because at the end of the day, we build this incredible life and incredible business, but I wish I had more kids to put them all to work for me. At the end of the day, family is everything.

You've sort of done it all and you can sit here now and say, "This is what matters."

To me, the most important, even through this conversation, we're going to borrow your courage. We're going to borrow your strength. You should

I am so excited for part two of this conversation. You can listen to this one by itself or skip back an episode and listen to part one as well. It is so good. Anastasia Suare, welcome to the Jamie Kern Lima show.

Thank you so much for having me. And you still work so hard cuz you do not need to work

at all. And you know, and I have people say to me like, cuz I work a lot right now. I actually work too much right now. Um,

but I love it. Like I love like I love this show. I want like I'm so honored to share your story with so many people. So I love it. But I'm curious for you because you don't have to do nothing, right? So why is it right now you still work?

I love it. I love to be to be I'm so competitive. I love to be in the in involved. I love to to win. I love to create products that my to me my biggest compliment is when I read uh uh a comment and say, "Oh, I love your products." Uh I cannot leave without my brow wiz or micro stroke, whatever it is. To me, that is an incredible fuel to my fire.

Yeah. And I love it. What else I would do? Do you feel like you're working? No, I don't feel like I'm working.

That is such a blessing. It's such a blessing. This is what I think. It's it's a blessing

that I have the passion. I wake up every morning and I am so fired to go on the Zoom or or what whatever I have work. Yes, Zooms. I'm so zoomed out sometimes,

but um I I I have to work. I need to to know what's going on. Me and my daughter, we are hands-on with the business.

So, you know, I have heard a number of friends and people share that they believe that the greatest of all the forms of success, one of the greatest for them in their life

is when their adult children actually want to spend time with them. And you have built your incredible business alongside your incredible daughter, Claudia. Yes.

Can you talk about that? Well, many times people kind of mention that I'm you are so lucky that your daughter wanted to work with you. And I answer them, well, she didn't want her to work with me, but I didn't give her choice. Um, she because I was working so many hours, I wanted kind of to spend some times with her. Yeah. So when she was in school um to she wor she started working at the salon part-time to get some extra money for her gas or whatever she wanted to buy herself.

Yeah. And um she started working at the front desk. I I and I could see her and I think was important for her to see how hard I worked because I don't think she realized how hard I was working. she will always complain, you are never at my my school uh meetings. You are never uh at at the events that we have at the school. And I used to tell her like I I can't I can't cancel my clients. I have six months uh uh ahead of my uh schedule that clients will book themselves. So uh she started working at the front desk. At the beginning I was was little challenging but uh slowly she start getting really good at what she was doing and after a while she went to uh the corporate office and she started working in every single department because I wanted her to understand as you know creating a company and a beauty business every department is completely completely different operations are different. Uh reading a contract and

saleserson, it's a different uh department. Uh packaging, marketing, every department is great and has a important role in building a company and I wanted her to understand everything. So she did that and and she loved making products the product development and she stayed there and in 2012 as I'm sure you read in the book she um came with the the advice I mean she was the one um uh talking about the Instagram was a new app uh and she said mom we are traveling because every weekend we used to travel to do personal appearance in Nordstrom's around the country.

Mhm. and she said, "I we work seven days a week and traveling is not that easy as you know. Um, is this app Instagram? We could post videos or pictures and maybe we don't need to travel that much to promote our brand." I I said, "Of course, let's let's try it." And uh we posted few pictures and of course we start reading every single comment. And I remember vividly one comment. We posted a brows uh picture and uh one lady said, "Oh, I wish I could buy this pencil." And I said, "Send me the address and I will ship you one." And she said, "Uh, oh, you can cuz I live in a small v village in India."

And that was the moment when I thought, "Wow, the reach that this app has, it's unbelievable. I mean how how I will reach in 2012 somebody in India and that was the beginning of full force me and Claudia not only we did everything else in the company we run the Instagram just us

and you you and Claudia and your entire company were so visionary with everything with um social media with influencers. I want to ask you because I think there's a lot of people listening that maybe they have a friend or loved one working with them.

Yes. For me it was my husband. That was a whole It is a miracle we are married.

Still married. Yes. It's a miracle that we are still in love because it is hard to run a business or work with someone you love or care about. Um for you. I love that you share so much of the behind the scenes in the book. And so when when Claudia first started working for because now, oh my goodness, now your daughter is also an icon in the beauty industry and a trailblazer and a change maker and and and but when you go to the very beginning when she's working in the front desk, right, and she's um and and she's just trying to earn some extra money and uh uh can you talk about and this is long before um you know everything else. Can you talk about how that dynamic was? Cuz you share in the book a tough love moment when you had to fire her.

Oh yeah. Yeah. It was a tough love. Yeah. Yeah. I was always tough with my daughter, I think, because I wanted her to be disciplined. I wanted her Look, I love my daughter and no question about that. But I believe kids need discipline.

Mhm. and uh she always had to know that I'm the mother and she is the child and she needs to follow the rules. Of course, when you are young, you don't when you are a teenager, you don't like too many rules. But

yeah, I give no choice to Claudia and uh yeah, we used to fight. We used to but at the end of the day, she needed to do what she's supposed to

and she was I think showing up late, right? Yes. And I fired her. You hired her? Yeah. And was there a moment where you were sort of hoping like

I hope she comes back. I hope this works out. She first of all, she was so good at the front desk. Now we have we need three people at the front desk and uh she was so good. She was efficient. She knew how to handle clients. She was excellent. Um and uh I wanted her to come back. I couldn't replace her. I couldn't find anyone to replace her. And uh when she came back to she she got a job at the insurance company and she came back and she asked uh to borrow some money because she didn't have enough money to pay her rent. She said, "Mom, I didn't know I have to pay so many taxes and uh can I borrow some money?" Like, "No, I'm sorry. I can't." So, I wanted her to beg me to get her job back because I I couldn't ask her. I want to to kind of teach her a lesson and um I went back in the room and um after I I shaped I had another client I came back she was still outside and I said Claudia I'm not going

to give you the money. It's like the only thing I could do because you are really good in what you do I could give you the job back. It's like okay but we have to set rules here. the moment you walk in. Number one, you are never late again. Number two, I am your boss. I'm not your mother when you walk in. And uh I'm going to be tougher with you than all the employees because I could set an example. And that was the rule.

And from that point forward, did everything shift? Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Was probably the best lesson of her life.

Yeah. with uh with that's so good because a lot of people struggle to set boundaries at work or they or they you know if they work with someone that they're related to or that they love or care about or a good friend it's hard for people to do that and to separate. No, no. For me, you could. No. Could be my daughter, my It doesn't matter. Business is business.

I never ever do anything. Not only for anyone. It's business is tough. You You need to perform. You don't perform, we don't survive.

Yes. Mhm. And don't you find I'm curious actually cuz I think once you start taking off and you start having so much success, success can mask inefficiencies inside. And so were you have you always sort of been on top of all of that too? Did you ever experience that where you had underperformers that you were sort of carrying because of the success?

Of course, of course. And and most of the time I like to to um re-evaluate the the per the people that work and maybe they cannot perform in certain area but they are better in in another uh job

in in the company. And I like to switch that and I like to use their talent because I I like the people that I work with.

Yeah. Yes. And a lot of your people have been with you forever. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. I have girls that have worked for me for like 25 years.

Yeah. Yeah. I love I love that. I It's one virtue that I really admire in people loyal and Yes.

I know when I get resumes now to this day where they have like a job a year. This is I tell everyone and and for everyone that is listening, please do not jump one year every year to another job. Don't don't jump because anyone that will look at your resume and see um I was for one year at this company and another year at this company and another year at this company. No, you cannot build something anywhere if you if you are not there for a few years.

Yeah. So bite the bullet and stay there. Yeah. Build something. Yeah. We won't even entertain a resume at all. And it's interesting even we work with a lot of agencies, recruiting agencies, they'll send us so many, you know, resumes where it's one year, one year, one, even though we tell them, "No, no, no. Won't even look at it." And um but it is wild how common that is nowadays. And all I see when I see that is, "Oh, you're going to jump ship here in a year. We're going to pour into you and pay you to invest."

Exactly. Yes. Yes. And and what what people need to understand is that you invest the company invest a lot in in training you to learn to see and then when you move and you go to somebody else and you say oh the I grew the company or whatever you know in one year you couldn't do that.

Yes. So you people that are going to interview you, they are smart people and and if you want to really be believable, you you need to stay few years in a in a job.

Yeah. I think it's like the most important the most important build something build a great resume if you are young.

Yeah. Yeah. When um when you think about Claudia Yes. and you think about your journey of everything you've built from the days when you were the soul bread winner

um all the way through to us sitting here right now do you have any would you change anything in terms of how much you worked because I think about this in my own life and I get this question all the time like should I do you know you know I want to launch this thing but oh my gosh I'm working so much I'm missing out on my life and I'm missing out on friends and My kids say I'm never home. And would you do you have would you change anything? Meaning do you have any regrets about how much you worked to get to where you are right now?

Um I never regret what my past. I I don't like to look that much in in my past because I think everything I've done got me where I am today. And I'm so happy and I'm so grateful and I love that I was able to work that hard. Do you know when I came in this country, do you know what was my biggest joy? And now, more of this incredible conversation together. Do you know when I came in this country, do you know what was my biggest joy was? Oh my god, you could have three jobs because I was thinking like, oh maybe I could work at this place and uh I will work at the pizza place and I will work here. I could get three jobs. That was amazing.

So it was a joyful uh thing for me. uh and and being able to work and to achieve whatever you want and being happy what with what you do. I think it's and having a purpose is probably the best thing I have ever done in my life. forget about the success and and of course I enjoy every minute but having a purpose to me is the best thing I not only that I was able myself to have that the purpose but I was able to bring my daughter to have a purpose to me that's my biggest achievement

it's so beautiful like the meaning we attach to things or the story we tell ourselves about things can just change our entire life there's people that don't realize that there's so many places where you can't get one job and you're like, "Yes, whoa, I can get three jobs."

Three jobs. That's amazing. That's amazing. And I just think hearing that is so powerful because we all have the power to shift our perspective on stuff. Um when you think of of your daughter Claudia, what

what are your hopes for her in this life? Um wish she will have children. She always when I uh when I ask her about Claudia I mean I think you it's you need to have a baby like mom it's too we can we need to launch this product we don't like we are too busy no you are never too busy

you should have a baby but I I hope my my biggest regret is that I didn't have more kids

really yes you should not you should have more because at the end of the day we build this incredible life and incredible business, but I wish I had more kids to put them all to work for me.

But but um I I think it's so amazing because at the end of the day, family is everything.

And having children is amazing. It's a gift that nothing could give you more joy.

I' I don't think I've ever met anyone that says, "I wish I had fewer kids." Right? It's always I I'm going to this last two minutes I'm going to replay for my husband over and over because I've been telling him he's known I always want seven. He's like, "I think we're good with three." And I'm like, "No one ever regret." But we just I mean, we just welcomed our third into the world. Um thank you. But I I and you know you know as you said how hard it is but I think the same thing. I think like

you should have more. Yeah. Yeah. Um 50 years from now when someone asks Claudia tell me about your mother what do you hope she says? Um, I think my daughter is she will say my mom worked very hard

but she loved what she did. Yeah. And what will she say about who you are to her?

Oh, we are everything to each other. Yeah. You and I have so much in common. We have been through so many similar things. Look at you getting emotional.

Yes. About your daughter. Good. Yeah. Yeah. What are you feeling? Well, I feel like I run the marathon and we work a lot. But thank God we love what we do. M yeah. What can I say? My mother is 92. She's I mean she had a great life, but she's you know 92.

Yeah. And uh the three of us I think we we had this incredible connection three generations an incredible connection supporting each other and and was not dream big enough for us and and helping and supporting each other. When I left Romania, everybody thought, "Are you crazy to leave? You don't know anyone there." And my mother said like, "No, go, go, go. And I will come when when this when I will be able to come, I will come."

Yeah. Mhm. Like I said, family is everything. Sorry. I'm sorry. I don't want to be too emotional with you.

That's beautiful. You're crying. I'm crying. I just I I want to say I'm so um I'm so inspired by your strength, by your story, by your conviction, by your example of betting on yourself, by your just complete

embracing of who you fully are like fully authentically like this is who I am. You know what I mean? by you sharing the things that you've learned the hard way by

you inviting us into your story in raising brows your new book about just like your journey your journey and also hearing now the things that you value you know because you've you've sort of experienced so many things good and bad but so many things people could only dream about and you've sort of just you've been inside rooms that people could only imagine I haven't even if I if I read your actual bio, we would I would still be reading it in an hour because of how much you've done, how many of the most incredible um iconic women from all over the world that are not just your clients, but your dear friends and and love you. I mean, you've just done so many things. And what I love is you've you've sort of done it all and you can sit here now and say, "This is what matters

to me." The most important Yeah. Yeah. Yes. The most important my my family, my mother, my daughter, my friends, people that I work with. Very simple. I like simple life.

And I'm still excited that I could work. Mhm. Yeah. And love what I do. And I love that. I think people are going, including myself, I think I think even through this conversation, we're going to borrow your courage. We're going to borrow your strength. Like I I literally felt myself in my body being in your spot where you're like, I don't care if no one will valet this car. I'm prioritizing this and I'm going to park this far away so my daughter's not you know all the things. But like you're you do not care about what other people think. And I just think that all of us need to borrow that courage because so many of our of us for so many reasons we we shrink or we play it small or or we we don't go for it or we doubt ourselves out of it or we conform. And it's another form of when you do not care or when you show the other person that their their negative thoughts doesn't affect you, then they will not do it

anymore. Do you know what I mean? Yes. You build an imaginary wall that you don't let anyone to bully you, to to talk bad to you, to to stay strong. And I promise you that this works.

Do you feel like you have that imagin? Yeah. Oh, yeah. This is how I build that cuz I mean it was very difficult at the beginning.

Yeah. for me. I mean, I I used to I remember Claudia was at the front desk and and she used to say, "Mom, I I don't know this client that the clients are coming here. I don't have a spot for them and they scream at me and and they are rude to me because they want an appointment right now and I I I cannot fit them in." And I used to say, "Claudia, this is how you're going to handle this. build this imaginary glass wall between you and the clients. You always have to be polite to the clients because they are everything to us.

Very polite. And and if they don't understand that we don't have time, I we we are completely booked. You always have to be nice and say, "Let me see what I could do for you. Just give me a few minutes and check. Maybe she could come tomorrow or maybe she could go and shop at Neiman Marcus and come little bit later or get their cell number and if they will be able to you could call them and they could come immediately if a client will not show up for their appointment. Find a way to show greatness and and goodness and I will promise you you will be completely different and this is how she did. She did it and she completely changed her her aura and the relationship between her and the customers. Always you have to have that imaginary wall.

I bet that's so good. And I bet you teaching her that because I know she was such an innovator and visionary um early.

Yes. with with social media and with influencer strategy with just I mean you know it's interesting that you know nowadays

uh 2025 2026 I think that any entrepreneur has to be on social media has to be I mean now it's just part of it uh but a lot of people don't know how to handle it when you get people that come at you or say negative things and so I bet you for her you teaching her that invisible wall and like you know and still you know, show greatness, but don't let that negativity penetrate you. Um, have you ever has she ever or you ever had tough times being so big on social media and in the influencer world when like some you know when when that might happen? Have you or have you always been able both of you to kind of keep that invisible wall where you don't let it um dim your light or impact you?

We tried. Yes. Yeah. I mean, there were moments probably they were not the nicest.

Yeah. But, you know, you can't make everybody happy. Yeah. Yeah. And again, we have the best intention. We are here to to do the best. We are trying our best.

And if you don't like it, I understand. Yeah. But yeah, I'm sorry I cannot make you happy.

Yeah. I try. Those are the most beautiful words because I think people will take those words who are listening right now and be like, "Okay,

am I trying my best? Are my intentions good?" Then you know what? If I'm not for you, I'm not for you. And just kind of like, yeah, that's so beautiful.

You know, you and I um have so many different experiences and then also so many similarities in our journey. And

um and and I just, you know, I think that what I'm realizing more and more as I meet more and more and more and more women and entrepreneurs and men is that

a lot of us go through similar things. But a lot of people think they're alone in their rejections or their nose or their hardship. And it's one of the most beautiful, powerful reasons why I'm so happy you wrote this book, Raising Brows, because people are going to connect through your story. And one of the many things we have in common is um both of us uh have had our lives completely changed by Oprah. You say uh that early on when you would watch her show, right? you had immigrated to this country, you were learning English, watching her show, and you say, "If she could find her way, so can I." And what I love so much about your book is there are going to be so many people that pick up raising brows and they're going to go, "Wow, okay. If Anastasia can figure this out, I can figure my thing out. If she can do this, I can figure out how to do this." And so I just want to ask you for the person listening um who is

going, "Oh, wait. Okay, maybe this book, Raising Brows, Anastasia Story, is for me." What would you say to them that they're going to that they're going to get out of this book when they get it home? I believe that they should get that power where where they will think the the the days they will feel like I I can't do this anymore. They want to give up. If Anastasia was able to do it, I could do it, too. I mean everyone else has much more than what I had when I came.

Yeah. So I didn't speak the language. I didn't know anyone. I didn't have money. I with I mean no no, you know, every single box was with no no. And I still didn't give up. I started and I did it. And if I was able to do it, everybody else will be able to do it.

Just they they need to believe in themselves. That's it. I think that's the key. You need to believe in yourself. You need to believe in your dream. You need to believe that it's something there for you. But you need to take action. Don't look for the perfect plan, the business plan. Don't look for the the the perfect scenario, you know, just start doing and and everything will roll. I think didn't you notice at least I noticed then when when I start working and doing the eyebrows, everything happened. I never thought when I started doing eyebrows that I'm going to build a cosmetic company

but it it it roll once you take the action and you start doing things will happen at the end of the day.

You know what I'm thinking about as well that I just want to say is I personally I feel stronger

right now just from having this conversation with you. I do like I literally feel stronger and that was making me so excited

for everyone who's listening to this or part of this and you know I um I know you know Nadia Komanich famous Romanian gymnast and

I uh there is a movie uh the movie called Nadia which is like based on her life and there is a quote in that movie that I love so much I put it in my book I I just I love the quote but the quote uh reminds me of you and it's when uh Bella Colli the coach I know

uh you know Bella was looking for a gymnast and and in the movie he is on he's going to a school looking for a potential gymnast and he's in the schoolyard and then in the classroom and he goes up to Nadia who he meets for the first time and he says do you believe that little girls can fly and I just remember and she like nodded and And I just remember the first time I ever saw that and I'm like I believe girls can fly. Like I like what that meant to me. And when I think of you, I think of both of our stories actually. I think of that quote. Like I I just see you and I just I want to say that it is an honor to watch you fly and to watch you help so many other women spread their wings and fly to new heights. And I'm just grateful to know you.

Thank you so much, Jamie. And I really really believe that every single person that is listening could fly and could do whatever they want to do. They whatever they put their mind into just they need to believe that they could do that.

Yeah. Cuz I believe it. Yes. They should believe in themselves. Yeah. Yeah.
